IPad 16gb wifi +airport express. No utilities setup

Hey guys,
Here's my problem. I'm in sao Paulo staying in a room that only has Internet via Ethernet cable.
I currently have an Ipad 16gb and an airpot express. Problem is both of these are new and have never been setup or linked together. When I plug in the airport it blinks amber and I can get Internet service. I don't have a computer to run the disk... Am I totally screwed?
Also I see a
"free public" Internet network when I check my iPads wifi connections. I can connect to it with a strong signal but I can't go online... I get an error saying couldn't connect to the Internet.
I'm totally new to all of this so any help would be totally welcome.
Thanks for the help!
Jorge

No way I know of.
I don't bother if I can't determine who supports the network.
You see a lot of these 'Free Public Wi-Fi' or 'Free Public Network' hotspots in airports. Many of them are hosted on a laptop computer by someone in the concourse looking to steal personal info.
It's not worth it, IMO.

  • Hey! i wonder what steps are need to set up an iphone or an ipad as an Airport Express device, so it uses its wifi capabilites to capture a music stream, being conected to a pair of speakers in my living, or in my bedroom ?

I know that i can receive in my iphone the streamed music of the itunes library but this happends as an indepent music stream from the one already  playing in the computer
I would like those to be in sync:
so i ca n set my whole house under one music stream, with my 2 iphones4, my ipad, and  1 airport express. plus the local pc in my offifce,
The airport express is hooked at the livingroom with a 4.1 set tha rocks.
my local pc is hooked to a Sony 5.2
then mi iphones could be at the master room and the other in the kitchen.
while managing the 4 individual streams with independent volume levers.
justa as if they where all airpor express devices
Is understood that the iphone 4 obviously exceeds the technological requirements to achieve such a task. !

you should be able to do what you want using Airfoil.

  • Cannot connect airport express to ipad I keep receiving the message: "an unexpected error occurred" when I try to connect my Ipad to my airport express.  Does anyone have a solution?

cannot connect airport express to ipad
I keep receiving the message: "an unexpected error occurred" when I try to connect my Ipad to my airport express.  Does anyone have a solution?

I could not "see" my Express via my wireless router or via the Airport Utility until I reset it to Factory Settings by unplugging it then holding in the tiny reset button while plugging it back in, waiting for the flashing yellow LED signal before letting go.
Then I set it up to DHCP - "connect to wireless network" and DOWNGRADED the firmware to 7.3.x
I would tell you the exact Firmware but I can no longer "see" the Airport express............ AGAIN or still.....
BUT at least I am listening to music streaming from my MacBook Pro... Hmmm.
I log back into the router (Linksys WRT110) and it no longer shows the Airport Express as a DHCP client AND the Airport utility can no longer "find" any Airport Devices..
So if I don't move, or there are no cosmic events, or maybe my KARMA is effecting the device or my "VIBES" are good, but I'm not sure if will continue to work.. Sure would like to use this little device from hel*.
Since I have had this Airport Express I have spent many hours trying to get it to work.
It works just long enough to fool me and then takes a dump...
    Maybe this time?
    5 Minute later...
Music was playing. I went into iTunes and switched from Airtunes to Computer speakers. When I tried to switch it back GUESS WHAT?
[An unknown error (-15006) occurred while trying to connect to remote speaker "Airtunes"]
Wonderful Green LED though. Totally useless piece of equipment AFAIK.

  • Ipad connects with Airport Express, but not wireless router

I have a airport express that exends my network and is connected by an ethernet cable to the wireless router.  they are on opposite sides of the house from each other.  every other device i own has full bars wifi anywhere in the house.  but the ipad only seems to find the signal from the AE.
If i go in the bedroom with the wireless router, the signal drops to 1 bar.  if i unplug the AE along with all the other electronics for the TV/Receiver at night, the ipad loses the signal and cannot get a signal from the router, standing right next to it.  i have tried reset, hard reset, renew lease forgetting network, and all fails.  any ideas?
I have a Verizon Ultraline series 3 model A90-9100EM15-10 and the firmware is up to date.

Disclaimer - For me the Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture very different from that found in most 1st world nations, such as that in the two dominant North American countries. Written language has no tone. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
You likely have your reason for extending your network in this manner, but it seems that the AE is not really extending your router's network, but creating its own separate network that then extends your internet connection. This can be confusing to devices if you are expecting that they will switch between the two of them automatically.
The iPad can only support one connect at a time. It sounds like you want it to be able to jump from the AE connection to a router connection on a whim when signal strength drops. I am not sure that the iPad's radio is that sophisticated. At best when the iPad looses a signal it could ask if you want to join any other network that it detects, especially if it has connected to that network in the past.
AFA the router, some routers don't like iOS devices and just won't connect. When you go to Settings/Wi-Fi does the iPad see the router's network? If the iPad sees the router network, try configuring a connection by hand.
Tap Other... and write the name of the router's network. Tap Security and select the type of security the router's network employs. Return to the previous pane and enter the password. Tap Join. If you can make the conection the iPad should remember this network in the future. Turn on Ask to Join Networks and hopefully when the iPad looses the AE signal in the future it will then ask you if you want to join the router's network.

  • Wifi, AirPort Express and the iPhone...

I have an Intel iMac running 10.5.6 connected to the web via Ethernet. I also have an iPhone and an AirPort Express. What I want to do is use the AirPort to stream music to a stereo and get online on the iPhone via the iMac.
I can do all these things but not at the same time, If I share my Internet connection via WiFi the AirPort disappears, the AirPort want to be my Internet connection, which it isn't, so throws up errors. The AirPort is only happy if it creates the Network, doesn't seem to like joining another.
The books tell you how to do each bit but not how they work together, help please anyone...

I'm not quite sure I understand your setup here, but I think your solution is to just put the AirPort Express into bridge mode. This then creates a seamless link between those clients that are wired and those that are wireless.
This model does require that you have some kind of switch in your network (either built-into your router or standalone). This will allow the wired iMac and the wired ethernet port on the AirPort express to both talk to the router, and would allow wireless clients (such as the iPhone) to talk to the wired devices, too.
You can use AirPort Admin to set the base station into bridge mode (under Internet -> Connection Sharing, choose 'Off (Bridge mode)' instead of either 'Share a public IP' or 'Distribute a range of IPs'.)

  • I need help setting up ipad 2 with airport express??

I am having trouble getting my ipad to play music wirelessly, but my macbook is fine. Is there something I need to do on my ipad to get it to work?

  • HT4437 I have a Mac, ipad and 2 Airport Express connected to 2 stereos. I would like to control my Mac itunes with my ipad using shared library.  However I only seem to get one AE working at a time and unlike the Mac it will not let me select both. Any id

    Hi
Running iMac, iPad/iPhone and 2 separate Airport Express, each connected to a different stereo in the house.
I would like to run the iMac itunes library remotely using the shared function on the ipad.
However when running music from iTunes on the iMac I can select speakers and both AEs so music is running from 3 sets of speakers.  But on iPad I can only select iPad speakers or AE1 or AE2.
How may I get it to run both AEs please from iPad and using the Shared Function accessing the iMac itunes library?
The same applies for my iPhone 4s
    Many thanks

That's not what home sharing is for or how it works.
    You want the remote app.

  • Airport Express Faliure to Setup

    Hi Mac heads.
I'm hoping you can help me with my airport express setup. All I'd like to do is use it to run music to my stereo system.
I'm trying to connect to a 3rd party router (linksys wrt54g) which is running WPA personal with a hex password. I go through the setup assistant and everything works fine until the last reboot of the airport express. It says it's waiting for it to reboot but it doesn't. Once airport express reboots it goes to its kiss of death orange flashing light. There are no errors. Any ideas? Is it due to the security on the network. Thanks.

    First, welcome to the discussions.
See if this link will help you.

  • If I buy a ipad 16gb wifi will it run 4g LTE with my jetpak from verizon?

If I buy a ipad 16gb with just wi fi and I have a verizon jetpack supporting and producing 4GLTE will the ipad run at 4g speeds?

Basically if your Jetpack connects at 4G/LTE speeds, that is what a connected iPad will use. The connected device has no bearing on what the Jetpack can do.
It only uses what the Jetpack provides. so if its 4G/LTE speeds that the Jetpakc uises then that's what the device (iPad or whatever  else) uses.
A Wifi only iPad does not in any way have anything to do with cellular speeds.

  • Ipad printing through airport express base

Hello, I'm a new ipad user and I have been trying to print from my iPad to a USB Epson printer connected to an Airport express base. The printer is well connected to the home network since I can print from any computers on the home network. The two iPads we have don't see the printer. When we try to print, the iPad searches for a few seconds then gives an error message about printer not being seen.
I know that my printer is not in the compatible list of airprint printers but from I have read, a USB printer can be connected to an Airport Express base and it does the same, unless this is not usable on an iPad. Will I have to buy a new airprint printer or a solution exists?
    Thanks for the help.
    S Dufort

This link - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356. provides a list of "air print compatible" printers.
Want to print from your iPad, but don't have an air print compatible printer?  Check out the applications available from the iTunes store.  Simply launch iTunes on the computer and select iTunes Store, or launch the iTunes Store from your iOS device.  Search out the key words "iPad Printing".

  • Can I stream from my iPad to multiple airport express points?

I have just set up 3 airport expresses around the home and have worked out how to use the laptop (holding my iTunes library) and the home sharing function to stream the music to the 3 speaker points and control the volume individually.  I have also got the Remote App that makes me more in control.
Am I able to effectively lose the laptop from the set up and stream from my iPad to the 3 speaker points and control the volume at each? It just seems logical that it should be possible becasue what is the point of having the laptop on when I have the whole library on the iPad.
Any advice would be great, thanks.

Then perhaps I misunderstood this line with my poor Englsih.
Currently, you can only stream media from Apple-sanctioned apps like YouTube, though Sadun notes that this field widens if you choose to jailbreak your device and install AirVideoEnabler.
As the resident expert, would you tell us which apps to download and install on which device. I find it a bit confusing.

Frankly, there were more problems with firmware 7.4.2....that's why 7.5.2 was added.
When you update to 7.5.2......are you then powering down the entire network, waiting a moment, starting the modem first, then each device one at a time?
You would want to perform a power cycle like this whenever you update any device on a network.
No guarantees, but worth a try.
If you still must use 7.4.2 and you want to get rid of the blinking amber light and messages, post back for instructions.

  • Airport Express 802.11g Setup with iOS Airport Utility

I'm traveling with just an Airport Express 802.11g model and my iPad mini. I want to change the settings on the Airport Express but the Airport Utility for iOS says this base station isn't supported. Do I have any options available to me to change the settings on the road without a computer?

Yeah, that's what I gathered. Question is, do I have any alternate means of configuring it? For example, a web interface.
