Ipad 3 smart cover wake up slower than ipad 2? anyone?

ok well i was watching youtube for ipad 2 smart cover reviews and i noticed that the ipad 2 smart cover wakes up almost instantly and then compared it to my ipad 3 and mine took 1-2 secends.
anyone else have this problem?????? please answer

Yes. I called Apple support today. My issue is when the iPad 3 has been in sleep mode for more than 10-15 min, it takes more than a second for the lock screen to appear when the home button is pressed. It is faster with the smart cover. Apple helped me restart and reset the device but it didn't help the situation.

  • My iPad 3 sleep/wake no longer triggered by smart cover

My iPad 3 no longer senses the smart cover: when I close the smart cover, it doesn't go to sleep, nor does it wake when I open the smart cover. I also have a Logitech keyboard cover which used to trigger the sleep/wake, but also no longer does, so the issue seems to be in the iPad and not the covers.

Thanks, enabling it in settings resolved the issue.. Must have disabled that setting without noticing it.

  • The new iPad: Does your SmartCover wake up the new iPad a little slower than iPad 2?

Hey guys! I got my new iPad (32GB with iOS 5.1.1) one month ago. Now I found it takes longer to wake it up than my old iPad 2 with SmartCover. I have to wait for 1-2 seconds before the screen lit up. However, iPad 2 only take half seconds or less, seems instantly...
I wonder if anyone has the same problem like me? Is it something related to the iOS or can I change for a faster one (if the problem is hardware-related)? Thanks for your contribution.
    Darling kim

    Hi Simon,
Thanks for your detailed reply. I can't see any slow response on iPad 2 even with lots of app running background I think may be this issue is by design for iPad 3, or may be caused by the iOS 5.1.1 as my iPad 2 still running its original iOS 5.0.1...
This issue is rarely reported, so may be it's an exception for both of us.
I was concerned about this, but not that much now. The stunning Retina makes me forgot it! I bet you feel the same
Another thing, does your new iPad is a little darker than iPad2 when setting to maximum brightness?
    Kim,

  • I am about to buy an iPad 3rd gen. Do I get a Smart Cover?

I was planning on buying a polyurethane Smart Cover at the same time as the iPad, and this would be the only protection I would have for it.
That being said, I own an iPhone 4S, and have never used a screen protector or case for it.  It goes in my pocket basically whenever I am not using it.  I have some light scratches on the back glass that you can see only in the right light, and nothing on the screen.
Based on that, would you say that this will be enough protection for me?  Also, for those of you who own an iPad and a Smart Cover, do you recommend the cover?  I have read on this forum from time to time that the Smart Cover can scratch the iPad where it hinges to it, and that sometimes the screen gets scratches from dirt that is being held there by the cover itself.
I am not really paranoid, but I don't want to be on this forum in 2 or 3 weeks asking what I can do about the scratches on the screen of my iPad.

The Smart Cover only protects the front screen. You'll get scratches on the back plus it provides no protection for a small drop.
I added a screen protector as it was cheap insurance protection.
For my iPad 2, I bought an Adesso case/keyboard model WKB-2000CD http://www.adesso.com/en/component/content/article/49-coming-soon/455-wkb-2000cd .html Works great & looks good. The keyboard is easier to use than Apple's on-screen keyboard. Do a Google search using the model number to get the best price. About the same price as Apple's covers & it covers the whole iPad. Although the new iPad  is slightly thicker, it should fit this case.
     Cheers, Tom

  • IPad (4th Gen) What is a good case that goes with the "iPad Smart Cover"?

    Hi,
I'm currently looking for a case that covers the aluminum back that also goes with the iPad Smart Cover. Thanks!

I've bought a ton of back covers. It's been hard trying to find the right one. I've settled on two really good ones though:
Caudabe Shell: This one's my daily driver, so to speak. I've got the frost version and it looks really good and has held up really well. Price is very reasonable too.
Switcheasy Cover Buddy: I like this one as well. Only thing is that they don't seem to have a frost version. They just have opaque colors, which I'm not a huge fan of. This is also a little bit more expensive than the Caudabe cover.

  • IPad 2 smart cover sleep/lock problems?

Been using my iPad for a good month now.  I'm loving it.  I have noticed that using the smart cover, you have to have the pass code on in order for the cover to put the device into sleep/wake.  When I have the passcode setting off, the smart cover aligned to device fine but does not give the audible click upon closing.  When passcode if off, I also notice a higher battery drain versus the lock code turned on and I hear the sound click.  Do I have a defective cover?  Suggestions??

Mine has worked fine.  What model do you have, the leather or the other?  I've read of others using screen protectors like Zagg absorbing some of the dye.  Of course considering the cost they are to produce ($12 is what I read for the leather) it doesn't surprise me some of the dye is coming out.  I have wiped my black leather down with high grade leather cleaner / oil and you can clearly see it on the rag.

  • TS2634 Why would my ipad Smart Cover suddenly stop charging?

HHI my ipad Smart Cover suddenly has stopped charging when I close it. Can anyone give me a reason it might do that?

    Gotcha...figured it was worth mentioning.
What I would do next (provided you've exhausted everything else) would be to backup the device using iTunes...backup your media as well. Then restore the device as new, not using any backup. After the initial setup, don't install any apps or media. Test for the issue. If the issue is present after restoring as new, that a good indication that there's a hardware issue. If the issue is not present after restoring as new, the issue a likely a botched/borked setting somewhere in the backup of the iPad. In this case (and assuming you want to clear the issue), you'll have to rebuild your device (apps media, settings, everything) from the restored as new state. This won't be pleasant or enjoyable but it may need to be done if you want to clear the issue. I had to do this recently to clear a different issue and I know it's not easy, especially all of the settings involved. I may have it a bit easier than most since I keep my iPads pretty empty...my 16 GB devices have more than 8 GB free on average (3 - 4 GB used).

  • How to you get biro of off iPad smart cover?

Hello I let a friend use my iPad and she managed to put biro onto the smart cover.  Dose any one know how to get it off or any helpfully information.
    I have tried.
    White spirit
    Cif cream
    Fairy liquid
And none of them did more than fair it slitley.
It is a Polyurethane smart cover

Rub it with a pink eraser?
try it on a corner first just to make sure it won't mar the sruface. There are ink removers out there but I'm noto sure how it'd affect the polyurethane of the cover

  • How can a new iPad smart cover of polyurethane having moister problems

I bought the New iPad with a smart cover, Now after 3 months one side of the smart cover is getting lose and I sent it bach to the store after investigation he said apple doesnot give any garantee becos of moister issues. How is this possible as polyurethane doesnot absorbe moister.
    What can I do?

Yea, I know, I figured it out shortly after. I feel kinda silly now but it just seemed too easy after all the fuss with Apple support. Like I said, if they don't really know what their talking about they go off in all sorts of crazy directions. I wasn't even having Compressor issues like so many others do (told ya my computer never lets me down). Not sure what the lesson here was, Apple Care is usually pretty helpful (or atleast moreso than other tech supports), but next time I'm having trouble with anything remotely music related they will be the last ones I call.
By the way, thanks for the reply anyway and reading my lenghty complaining. I really needed to blow off some steam after that needless ruckus.

  • Old Smart cover on iPad Air...?

I have a lovingly kept 2011 black leather smart cover on my iPad 2. Will this work with a new iPad Air, or must I buy a new cover?
    Cheers

The older Smart Cover is not compatible with the iPad Air. The Air is quite a bit smaller so the cover would overhang. Also, the magnets that hold the cover to the device will likely not line up either nor will the embeded magnets in the cover that trigger the sleep/wake function when the cover is opened/closed.
Just splurge for new Smart Cover for the Air. It's worth it.

  • Why isn't my Smart Cover locking my iPad?

My Smart Cover is no longer locking my iPad 2. I have rebooted and turned off the cover lock, closed the cover and then turned it back on...nothing changes.

First make sure you've updated the iOS.
Go to settings/general/ make sure ipad cover lock/unlock is turned on.
After verifying that, and still does not work then....
Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • Ipad 2 dimming after smart cover is opened

Why does my ipad's screen dim after I open the smart cover?  Then I have to touch it first so it wakes up

I don't have the iPad2 so I can't use the Smart Cover (don't think I would choose to use it anyway from what I have read about it) but I thought this was interesting ....
What happens if you remove the Smart Cover completely - i.e. don't use it at all - and power the iPad up using the Power switch. Do you get the same problem then? The iPad has an ambient light sensor too that measures how bright it is where the iPad is being used - it turns up the screen brightness when it's bright to make the screen easier to read and turns down the brightness when it's dark, so that it doesn't blind you. Sometimes the light sensor can be inadvertently covered which can cause it to appear to malfunction.
I copied that text from this forum.

  • Smart cover leaving marks in iPad screen

I have the new iPad and purchased a leather smart cover which I am disappointed with due to the fact that rather than he microfiber cloth side of the cover cleaning the screen it actually marks the screen exactly where it folds.
I am not the only person I know who experiences this and would like to know if anyone has had any response from apple regarding this or knows of a solution to this problem.
    Many thanks

I see the horizontal lines at the fold places of my leather smart cover too. I think though that the cover is just rearranging the dirt on the screen. I periodically clean my screen and the inside of the cover and this markedly decreases the problem. Other than that I ignore it.

  • IPad 2 Smart Cover Design Flaw

Am I the only one to recognize that the Apple Smart Cover's greatest feature is also its fatal flaw? The Smart Cover’s “innovative” feature is that it folds to prop the iPad up for typing or better viewing, with its primary function to serve as a cover to protect your treasured iPad’s glass screen. However, hasn't anyone noticed that when you fold the Smart Cover into either of the two propping positions that the inner portion of the cover (the micro-fiber that supposed to "protect" the screen) comes in contact with whatever surface it is that you're using as a base. So, when you fold the cover back onto the iPad, any nastiness (e.g., dirt, dust, food, etc.) that was on the surface of the base (e.g., table, desk, airplane fold-out tray, etc.) has now attached to the inner portion of the cover and will then be in direct contact with your iPad's precious screen.
I love Apple, but this is one case where I believe they missed the mark and added fuel to the argument that they sometimes put too much emphasis on form and not enough on actual function. And, for the price that they’re asking for the Smart Cover, I, for one, expect more from Apple.
Message was edited by: Steven Corum

It takes an extra moment of thought, but my Smart cover can be folded either direction and still can be used in the two positions. But as others note, I would never set my iPad down on any surface that I had not checked to see if it was clean. Just as I do not use it with dirty fingers or hands.
I think that folks are expecting much more from a Smart Cover than it was actually designed to meet. It is for protecting the display, and incidentally was given the ability to hold the iPad in the two display positions. But it is only a cover, it is not a case. If you need the facilities of an actual case, this is not the product for you. It was made to apply and remove in a second. It facilitates its application by self-adjusting its position with the magnets.
But I am happy with mine as a cover to protect the glass display when not in use and nothing more. I remove the cover when I use the iPad. I have bough the Compass tripod stand by 12 South for positioning the iPad for serious use. I love using it with my Apple BT keyboard when I am using it for serious writing. However, for casual use like lounging in a comfy chair or in bed to read, surf or watch videos, I use it without the cover or anything else. If I am watching videos it is paired with BT headphones for the audio channel.
Rather than finding all the flaws of each accessory that does not meet your needs, why not look for the ones that other geniuses have devised that perhaps do?

  • Smart Cover scratched my iPad Air screen

Has anyone else had the Smart Cover scratch their iPad Air screen?  I am very careful with my iPad, and the scratch was not there yesterday.  I use the Smart Cover.  It really is not a smart design to have the part of the cover that goes against the screen be the same part that sits on the desk or where ever the iPad is being placed.  I have tried flipping the cover the other way, but the magnet does not hold and it falls over any time I try touch the screen.  I use my iPad for work, so I have it sitting upright most of my day.  This is really frustrating.  While I have the Apple Care, I do not want to have to pay $100 to get the screen replaced.  It's a small scratch, but it's very visible, particularly when typing notes/documents/emails.  I overpaid to have an Apple-brand cover, just because I thought this would be the safest thing for my iPad.  I am thoroughly disappointed.  Now my $930 iPad is permanently damaged.

Has anyone else had the Smart Cover scratch their iPad Air screen?
I have the smart case, basically the same as the cover, and have yet to experience a scratch in over three years of use.
I do not want to have to pay $100 to get the screen replaced.
If it bothers you, you don't have much choice. Isn't that part of the reason you bought Applecare+?
I overpaid to have an Apple-brand cover, just because I thought this would be the safest thing for my iPad.
You did not overpay, you paid what Apple charged. No cover is going to protect 100% of the device. The scratch could have come from anything besides the cover. Any cover is better than no cover.
Now my $930 iPad is permanently damaged.
Uh, no. You can have the device replaced with a refurbished model. New case, battery and screen. To get the device replaced is only 10% of the cost of a new device. Use your Applecare+ for what it was intended. Otherwise you paid more for Applecare+ than you did for the cover yet complain about the price of the cover.
