Ipad (first generation) Battery does not charge. Need help

I tried Mac, pc and electric sockets; doesn't work. Same ports and cable I can use to charge my iPhone 4, so I know that cables and USB ports that I tried are OK.
I have 20% batter left. If I turn Ipad off and connected it to the USB cable, the Ipad automatically turns on but still doesn't charge. Also, I the iPad is not getting detected by the iTunes.
Does it mean that my iPad battery is dead?

Try a Reset - (For those who do not know, hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 15 seconds.) even do it a couple of times.
I am a little confused as to when you see or do not see the battery symbol etc etc. You mentioned a 20% battery strength and if that still applies then the following comment would be of little relevance (it may take completely drained batteries 20 minutes or more to indicate that they're actually charging).
As to the iPad not showing up in iTunes, try a different USB port, even a number of times.

My battery won't charge but the problem is a little different from others I have seen posted. The battery shows 3% charge but the adapter light is green. If the computer adapter is disconnected, the computer shuts down (as we would expect at 3% charge). I used another MacBook Pro cord to plug in and the same thing happens.

I purchased this 15" MacBook Pro (Oct 2006) from a reputable non Apple Apple dealer but f course this problem started a week or so after it was out of their resale warranty. There is nothing to say "check battery" just that it is not charging. It is a trek to ANY apple dealer or reseller and it is hard for me to get there easily so I was hoping someone might have an idea what is wrong and do what I can from home. Could it just be the battery? It seems more like a problem with the adapter connection. OCCASIONALLY, the light on the adapter will flicker on orange/red for a few seconds before going to green.
    THANKS!

The only way to tell if you have a hardware problem is to trek on down to your local AS or AASP for them to run some diagnostic tests. If it turns out to be just the battery, you can purchase directly from them. I am assuming you do not have AppleCare....
Not sure if you can run the same tests at home. Hopefully, you have the right tools. Search through the following "do-it-yourself" sites:
    iFixit
    TakeItApart
Also do a YouTube search. Loads of Macbook Pro +"how to"+ videos.

  • Is there a settings in Win7/HP feature that the battery does not charge until it is under 95%

I just purchased a HP Pavilion dv6-7043cl laptop and have noticed that the battery does not charge unless it is below 95%.  I am very concercerned because I had a different laptop from a different manufacturer where I had battery issues.  That manufacturer was not helpful and I will never buy from them again.
I have heard good things about HP which is why I decided to buy this particular machine.  However,  I have only had this machine for 3 days and now this is starting.  I cannot find a Win 7 (I am running Win 7 home premuim 64 bit) setting that controls when the battery starts to charge.  Is this a function of the HP Power Manager?  Is this a feature of the battery HP ships with their laptops?  Or is this indicating a problem with this machine?   I am a college student and I need a reliable laptop for school.
Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • MBA battery does not charge when connected. Help!

My MBA battery does not charge when connected to the charger. Ive checked the other threads and followed advice but nothing seems to help.. My battery health info is good, I've tried cleaning the magnetic pins of the charger, reset smc but it still does not charge. The light on the charger is green or does not come on sometimes, and it's the same for a few Power outlets. What else can I do? Would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks.

It recognizes the charger intermittently. After cleaning, it showed the charger as connected but not charging the battery. I will try my friends charger later to see if it works. Thanks for your help!

  • Battery Icon Shows "18% available (plugged in, charging)" But Battery Does Not Charge

The PC does operate on the battery only, just fine (so far, as there is only 18% remaining).
The PC operates with AC plugged in also.
LED by AC input is amber (looks orange to me).
According to the User Guide that indicates charging.
    Battery Check status is "OK"
I have had it on charge for over 12 hours and still at 18%.
When starting up, the battery icon shows charging movement then stops at a low level.
I measured the charger output at 20VDC (no load). Which is as specified.
I have tried all the suggestions about uninstalling and reinstalling  the ACPI Complient Control Method.......etc.
Removing battery, shutting down and all the rest of suggestions.
    No help.
I was told there was a BIOS update which I installed. (I'll post about that in another board). No help.
If I ever get this fixed it's going back to the vendor, Should not have this happen with less than 3 months since new.
Just got it back from repair for battery latch falling off. (Back plate was changed.)
    Anything new would be appreciated.

  • Battery does not charge after rescue & recovery

    Hi,
Yesterday I set up my computer fresh from the preload on the harddrive due to slowness, instabilities, inability to use VPN etc. After the reinstallation of OS and securiy updates, my battery does not charge anymore. The battery indicator on the front panel keeps blinking, and the Lenovo message center reports that irrepairable damage has been done to the battery and that it must be replaced.
My battery is not among the recalls by Lenovo.
Any idea if there's any option but buying a new battery? It just does not seem right that the battery is unusable after new OS setup.
    Cheers, Thorbjorn

  • Battery does not charge when asleep

Ever since I upgraded to Tiger my PowerBook battery does not charge when it is asleep and the display is closed. It only charges when the computer is active and display is up. Anyone else experiencing this? Solutions/work arounds??

Hi, Donald. Try resetting your Power Manager, and you might also trash the preference file com.apple.PowerManagement.plist. If you trash the pref file, be sure to restart and reset your preferred Energy Saver settings afterward.

  • Battery does not charge,why ?

the battery does not charge any longer...why ?

Your battery may be completely dead — but even a dead battery will usually accept a tiny charge, even if it only powers the computer for a minute or two afterward.
Your AC adapter may have failed. If you have access to another adapter, test with that and see whether it charges the battery. If it does, try all the steps in this article to see whether your own adapter will revive:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713
The charging system inside your MBP may have failed. If you have no luck with the above, take your machine to an Apple Store Genius Bar for testing:

    Hi
Please dont use any batteries which are not 100% compatible with your notebook!
This can damage motherboard and other 3rd notebook parts.
As far as I know the A100 is a one of the newest Toshiba series and the warranty should be valid.
For me it sounds a little bit like a motherboards power supply electronic fault.
Who knows ?:| The notebook check is necessary to locate the malfunction.
So dont waste the time and contact immediately the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country.
They technicians should check the notebook and should provide a help.
    Good luck

  • W530 battery does not charge

    Hi,
I have just got a new W530 (2436CTO) with the battery (70+?), BIOS ver is 1.07. The battery does not charge even I plugged in the AC. The battery status is ok and charging on the power control panel, but there is no estimated charging time and the level has been at 4%. I have changed all types of battery control profiles but that does not work. I have even followed another fellow's example and updated in the display card, but that does not work either. I have updated every possible thing except for the BIOS of the laptop, which requires a fully charged battery to update. I hope someone who has similar experience can give me some pointers.
    Thanks!

    'afternoon.
the 70-series battery is correct for your machine. since it's new, i would call Service:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=PD008370 and ask them if they'll send you a replacement battery.
if a new battery fails to charge, then it could be something amiss with the charging circuitry in the laptop, but best to take one step at a time.
    regards.

  • My Ipad battery does not charge

    Hi everyone,
Hope some of you can help me out. My IPad battery gone flat and it does not charge. I tried different sockets, different chargers, tried to plug in to pc and charge it but to no avail. Could be that it needs new battery? I this Ipad for 2 years now.

    May need a new battery.
Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Battery does not charge all the way .  How do I fix this?

My battery will not charge overnight.  I've had it to the Apple Store and they worked on it for a couple of hours, backing up data and then resetting the iPad.  This seemed to help for a couple of days, but then it started doing the same thing.  It's still under the extended warranty, but when I call in, tech support tells me that they can see that the battery is fine.  How do I fix this?

    Hello karen1944,
I think in this situation based off the previous troubleshooting that we need to start isolating the issue to either hardware or software. What I recommend doing is restoring the iPad as a new device, and NOT restoring your backed up data to it for a while. This article named iOS: How to back up your data and set up as a new device found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 shows how to do that. Start at step 2, and make a current backup of your device to iTunes.
    2. Back up
Back up your device before you erase it. Review the steps below, depending on your backup method, to ensure that you have a recent backup in case you decide to restore your device from a backup
    iTunes
iTunes backs up your device automatically when you sync. If you have previous backups of your device in iTunes when you select Set Up As New, a sync occurs. This sync creates a new backup indicating the time the device was backed up.
    To back up your device:
In iTunes, check Preferences > Devices to check the date and time of your latest backup.
If you do not have a recent backup, create one by right-clicking the device in the source list and choosing Back Up.
For more information on backing up your device, see iOS: How to back up. If you wish to copy your backup to another folder, disk, or location for safekeeping, see this article in the section titled "Where iTunes backups are stored on your computer." For more information about what iTunes backs up, see this article.
That way you can monitor the device and see if the issue re appears or not. If it does not re appear within a few days, then you should restore your data from the iTunes backup using that same article, at the bottom there is a section about restoring from an iTunes backup:
To restore your device using a previous backup
    iTunes
To restore your device using a previous backup, connect your device to iTunes. When your device appears in the source list, right-click your device and click "Restore from backup…".  iTunes will ask you to choose the desired backup from the list provided.
    All the best,
    Sterling
