IPad No Display - Goes to DFU if left ON - iTunes detects in Recovery

Hello World,
I have an iPad2 WiFi 16GB that has gone dead. I was perfectly working a few weeks back but now it’s almost dead.
The problem was first observed on a morning when I tried to press the home button and the screen wouldn’t come on. I thought the battery was down and tried to charge it. Having connected it to a charger, there were no charge indications displayed on its LCD. Usually I see the red battery charge icon when connected to a power source. In the evening when I came back from office, it was still stuck on the blank screen with zero display no backlight either. I swapped with another charger but still the same story. Then I tried to hard reset it, and viola, the screen powered up and booted back again. No issues for 2 days. Then the same problem on 3rd day and so I hard reset it again and when it booted back I noticed that the charge was about 70%. So I knew the problem was not due to low charge. This started going on for a month. As time passed I couldn’t hard reset it straight away and it was getting tougher to get the iPad working. I would have to keep pressing the home button and power button for more than 20 seconds for the screen to come back up. My chances of waking the iPad was better if I connected it to a charger and if the battery was charged above 90%. It became harder and harder to get the iPad working. I observed that if the iPad is always connected to the charger this problem never happens. You can leave it for a week and no issues at all. It is when there is no charger connected to it and if the iPad blanks the screen due to inactivity and within 10 minutes of standby the problem starts to appear.
Since this was happening quite often I thought it could be a problem with the recently updated 7.0.4. So I thought I would upgrade it to 7.0.6 and see how it goes. With the blank screen iPad I connected to its USB cable and to my surprise iTunes detects it in DFU mode. This is the DFU with blank screen not the recovery screen that shows up with "Connect to iTunes picture" on the screen. But, if I try to update the iOS it would get stuck at the progress bar forever. No activity is observed at this point. The only way to reinstall the OS is try to hard reset the iPad by pressing the home + power buttons for more than 20 (if you are lucky) seconds and see if it comes out from DFU with a boot logo of Apple. During power up keep pressing the home button so that it enters into the recovery mode ("Connect to iTunes picture"). Then iTunes can reinstall it. But when it reboots same problem. So I know it’s not the iOS issue. Something else would have gone wrong. As time passed by the iPad wouldn’t wake up at all. It wants to be in DFU all the time. The 20 second hard reset work around too failed and it was impossible to get the iPad working. I thought it could be the battery playing up. So I purchased the iPad2 battery off ebay for $13 and replaced it. The multi-meter showed it had about 3.4v before replacing (the one in it showed about 2.8v). But, still the same issue. There is no way the iPad displays anything except if I connect to iTunes and try to reinstall the iOS. In that case it would get stuck in the progress bar at 0% with the Apple logo on top.
I need some expert opinion here. Taking it to apple for repair is not an option and the iPad is out of warranty. I would like to repair this myself and would like to know the cause of such an issue. I am an advanced user so any wise observation, expert opinions are welcome. Appreciate your time in advance.
Thanks
Sinu Chacko

I also have had this problem, although it's not application specific. It can happen when I'm in any application including Safari, Photoshop, MS Office, Dreamweaver. (I don't have any video games installed). Would love to know if anyone has any answers out there!

I called Apple Support and they walked me through it. They told me to basically copy and paste my music to the external hard drive. (I think.) Or maybe it was they had me transfer a folder to the EHD. I don't exactally remember it was a few years back. But I tried to plug in the EHD before starting and...nothing. everything is in the backgroung i can't tap on anything, i even tried to put it on sleep mode or shut it down it doesn't work because it's in the background and i can't slide.plz help!!!

Apparently there has been an issue with the App Store for the past few days, so you are not the only one that has reported this problem. I was having the same issue yesterday, but I can use the search feature fine today
Try this for now. Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to search again.
    Or try this....
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • ICS Feed from Exchange to ipad not displaying correctly

Users are connecting their ipads to exchange 2010 shared calendars via an ics feed. Day & week views of calendar items appear to be correct. However, events that, in exchange are marked as "all Day", don't show up as all day events on the ipad, it just blocks out time for the event from 12 am to 12 am.
When the user views the calendar in month view. Calendar items that should be all day events are overlapping to look like 2 all day events. I created another new ics calendar in gmail and connected to that ics calendar on the ipad, and it displayed all day events perfect in day, week and month views. However, if I created a calendar event that was from 12 AM to 12 AM, it displayed the event over 2 days in month view.
I have also subscribed the exchange ics calendar to my gmail account and gmail displays the ics feed correctly. Same with subscribing to the calendar in Hotmail, Yahoo, and the Calendar app on my mac. So far, the only device that seems to have issues reading these ics calendars correctly in month view is the ipad.
I've tested with the ipad 3 as well as an ipad 1. The ipad 1 displays events ok, but they don't display all day events like I would expect. They just have a bullet event as a shorter event shows up. So the all day event doesn't appear spanning from the left to right of the calendar day. The ipad 3 is showing the full day events, they just bleed into the next day on month view. I've updated to the 6.1.2 ios, but the problem persists.

As a follow-up, this issue is happening on any calendar I've tried, ics or locally on the ipad. If I create an event that goes from 12AM to 12AM, the month view shows the event as a 2 day event. Any other calendar viewier I've tried, including the calendar viewer on my Mac shows these events just fine.
Again, the ipad shows these events correctly on the Day/Week, but not month.
So I'm caught in a vicious circle. Ipad displays correctly if an event is marked as an All Day event, Ipad displays correctly as 12AM to 12AM, Microsoft Exchange ICS feed displays all day events as 12am to 12am. So I can blame it on MS, but I can't blame MS if every other calendar program displays it correctly. In the end, I think the Ipad has the problem based on the many other calendar programs showing the same events correctly.

  • Face time fades out and then tries to reconnect on new ipad retina display on WiFi.  Iphone 4s has no problem with face time from exact same location and same contact.  WiFi signal strong on both devices.  What gives?

Face time fades out and then retries to connect (new Ipad Retina Display) on WiFi. Iphone 4s has no problem with face time from same location and same contact.  What gives?

    Is the router to small?
Not necessarily, if you are using Facetime all the data goes through your WiFi router, your cable/DSL modem, your ISP and the internet to Apple's Facetime servers and then, in reverse, down to the Facetime recipient. If your ISP connection is too slow or there is excessive traffic on the internet you can have Facetime problems.
Most WiFi routers can handle this unless others in the house are also using WiFi at the same time. The problem may be your ISP connection or congestion on the internet, etc.

  • IPAD  WITH DISPLAY RETINA 32 GB  WIFI+CELLULAR

    HI,
I'm not an expert with ipads so i would like to know if i buy in the usa an ipad with display retina 32gb wifi+cellular, will the cellular option work in Italy because i'm gonna use it there.

Hello razmee209.  Thank you for your response.  I spent the better part of yesterday working with Apple Support.  They tried their best, to include backing up photos to my HP laptop, backing up the iPad to iCloud, then resetting the iPad in total.  Same problem.  I restored from the cloud to recover my apps, same problem.
AT&T installed a new sim card - same problem.  I spent time with AT&T Support yesterday, too.  In both cases, (Apple and AT&T) the support techs who worked with me were extremely polite, courteous and helpful to the best of their abilities, but I think the problem lies deeper, and nobody at Apple is admitting they have a problem with iOS 8, that I'm aware of.
I didn't have this issue before I upgraded to iOS 8.1.2.
Everything else with the iPad works fine:  WIFI, Personal Hotspot, email, all my apps, etc.
In browsing the web for this issue I see that many other folks have the same problem.  I filed a report with Apple this morning, requesting that they contact me, but no word yet.  I was going to go to iPhone 6, and had been considering the iPad Air 2, but I see reports of this problem with those units as well.
At this point I don't think I'll be spending any more money with Apple, at least not till this issue is resolved.
Thanks again for your response and suggestions.

  • IPad Air is stuck in Dfu mode and iTunes does not recognize

Hello while i was restoring my ipad air and it wasn't going on so i disconnected my ipad air while "restoring" and it was in Recovery mode and i tried restore it again and it gaved me error 2005 and i put in dfu mode and tryed it again and it gave me same error 2005 and i tried disconnecting usb cable and connect again and then iTunes didn't recognize my iPad Air what can i do?

    Hey Ozan274,
Thanks for the question. If your iPad is not recognized in iTunes while in recovery mode, follow the steps in this article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
While you should follow all of the steps in the article, the applicable information is located in Step 5, sub-section titled “If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode”
I also see that you are experiencing error 2005, which may be the root cause of your main issue. For more information, see this article:
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
    Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
    Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    - Use another USB cable.
    - Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
    - Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
    - Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
    - Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • HT4085 Did all these things mentioned in this article, even did a system reset including data and other settings. iOS is up to date, still the iPad 2 display is not rotating.

Did all these things mentioned in this article, even did a system reset including erase data and other settings. iOS is up to date, still the iPad 2 display is not rotating.
This happened first a couple of weeks before, then I did a reset and it worked. Then after 2-3 days it happened again, I updated the iOS and it worked after that. Next time it happened, I tried all possible methods, including switching to software - rotation lock on/off. The hardware when turns to off/on, shows the correct icon on the screen of the lock and unlocked state. But the rotation is not happening.

    Just check again.
If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it, double tap the home button and swipe to the right and look for the lock icon all the way to the left.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If the iPad screen still will not rotate - turn it over and gently tap it on the back a couple of times - but gently tap it. Make sure that the screen is protected.

  • TS3274 Why does my iPad say " No SIM " in the upper left corner

Why does my iPad say " No SIM " in the upper left corner ?

    Hi Edwardtracey,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
It sounds like you have a cellular data plan and there is no service where you currently are.
The article below will explain this feature and how to turn the setting on/off.
The article has more details and screenshots, but I've quoted highlights below for you:
iOS: About the Cellular Data setting
Cellular data is used for data communication in cellular networks. It does not affect your ability to make or receive phone calls or to use Wi-Fi networks for Internet connectivity. If you turn off cellular data, you will be unable to:
See the cellular data icons in the status bar (for example, LTE or 3G).
Send or receive MMS messages. However, you can still send and receive SMS and iMessages if you're connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Retrieve or listen to new Visual Voicemail messages. To retrieve these messages, enable Cellular Data.
    Use Personal Hotspot.
You can adjust this setting by going to:
    iPad: Settings > Cellular
    Additional Information
You can also enable or disable cellular data for certain iOS features from this setting:
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!
