Ipad numbers spreadsheet corrupted by iMac numbers - help!!

I have a numbers spreadsheet set up on iPad and used drop down lists to enter simple values. The tables are linked across my ipad. When i opened my spreadsheet via icloud on my iMac, the tables had auto inserted values and or column headers in the empty cells! this affects a number of linked tables and has caused the sum value column to be corrupt please help!!

I've had no problems like that, so without more information it will be difficult to help you. You could post a screen shot of your layout. If you turn on the Formula List and take a shot of that too, it may help to determine what is happening.

Numbers spreadsheet corrupt?

I spent most of last night inputting data into new spreadsheets. This morning, when I tap on one of the spreadsheets to open it, I see the 'opening spreadsheet' bar scrolling, then the screen disappears and reverts back to the main screen showing my application icons. Does this mean the file is corrupt? Is there any fix? Do I really have to retype all of my data?.... and if I DO, will it happen AGAIN? Has anyone else encountered this issue?

I have had a file go corrupt on me before. I started using the export function to make a backup copy in the shared folder. that way if I get a corruption, I can delete the working copy and open the backup again.
BUT, be careful. I had Numbers seem like it had gone bad on me. usually you just delete nad reinstall the app. *Do Not Do This until you copy all your documents off your ipad and back onto the desktop computer*. It deletes all the files associated with an app when you delete the app, even from the shared folder.

Is there a way to have a Numbers spreadsheet show the row numbers on ipad?

I am have a spreadsheet I am using for keeping count of the current people registered for an event.
If there a way to have one of the columns automatically show the row numbers so I can easily see the amount of people confirmed for the event without having to manually count them? Also, I will be adding and deleting lines and need Numbers to automatically show the row numbers without me having to change it.

I found it out:
inserted a new column A
a --
In A1 type 1
in A2 type 2
select the pair A1:A2
drag the circular handle from the bottom right of A2 thru the very bottom of the column.
b --
in A1 type =ROW()
select the cell A1
drag the circular handle from the bottom right of A1 thru the very bottom of the column.

HELP !?! Numbers spreadsheet on iPad in iCloud : "can't be opened"

Been travelling for the past 2 weeks, only have my iPad with me. Have been working on a Numbers spreadsheet in iCloud, and today at some point for no apparent reason Numbers closes and I am directed back to Home Screen. Numbers app seems still open, but spreadsheet (although still showing in list of documents) won't open anymore.
Anyone can help me please with re-opening the document ? (I have made lots of changes over the past 2 weeks, and won't be back home at my MacBook Air for another week. I hope I have not lost weeks of work ...)

So, I do download it to my imac, make changes, save and then 'move to icloud'. But I don't see the changes when I open the spreadsheet again in my numbers app.

How do I close a numbers spreadsheet on my ipad 2? I cannot find a button or menu to close it. It has personal information on and the spreadsheet is password protected. Thanks Michael. I am finding this really hard to explain even though it's so simple. I have my passwords on a numbers spreadsheet. I password protected it. Every time I try to open it on my macbook it asks for a password. This is what I want. I open it, I update it. I close it, I want to update it again, it asks for the password again, I input the password, I update the sheet, I close it. I dont close it by opening another sheet or not worrying about it because my laptop is password protected, I hit the "X" in the top rught hand corner and close it.
Now, on my ipad I cannot do the equivlemt of clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner as the "X" does not appear on Numbers on the iPad?
That is my question, not how to mask it by opening another sheet or looking for a work around like password protecting the iPad so it doesn't matter that the spreadsheet is still open. Just, how do I Close (X out) of a Numbers spreadsheet when it's open in my iPad?

If you have Numbers installed on your iPad, first go to System Preferences -> iCloud, and make sure that iCloud Drive is enabled.
If so, open a Finder window and choose iCloud Drive in the left sidebar, so you will see a Numbers folder. Just open it and put your Numbers documents there, so they will be synced between your iMac and your iPad (providing that you already have Numbers on your Mac).

Thank you for this response. I have tried this but when I start enterring $ amounts some, such as $6.00, go in OK others such as $4.00 appear as a date ie 4 Oct 12.

Why won't some of my numbers spreadsheets from my iPad open with iCloud on my Mac (Yosemite)? When I look at the files in FiNader there's a grey bar next to the files that won't open.

I am having the same problem. Created new spreadsheet on iPad with fresh iOS and Numbers installs (3/2015) and am unable to open this spreadsheet in iCloud in Safari on MacBook Air (all current). I get the following message:
"Sorry, something went wrong.
This spreadsheet can't be opened right now. Please try again later."
Tried reopening on Mac from iCloud and resaving; still cannot open.
Quick fix: Copying the spreadsheet content from the iPad spreadsheet to one created on the desktop recovers the ability to open it in iCloud in Safari.

There is a chance the spreadsheets were made with a Numbers or AppleWorks version so old that it's not compatible anymore with the latest Numbers version (yes this can happen)

Help with Numbers spreadsheet

Here's the situation I live with my gf and roommate and we're trying to make a spreadsheet to track our finances. Here's what I'm currently having trouble making:
I have 3 types of entries Rent, Groceries and House. When a entry is added for the House catergory, I want the amount in the paid column to be divided by three with a third of it going into the Cam owing Kim (Cam -> Kim) cell and the Kar owing Kim (Kar->Kim) cell. (This is because when we buy stuff for the house we all use it and the cost should be divided evenly between the 3 of us)
When an entry is made for the Groceries catergory I want the amount paid column to be divided by two, with half going into the Cam owing Kim (Cam->Kim) cell. (This is because my gf and I buy groceries together and split the cost between the two of us)
When an entry is made for the Rent catergory I dont want any division to happen. (This is because we all pay the rent individually)
I'd greatly appreciate any help to make this work! I'd ideally like it to work this way, but I'm open to trying another way if it might be easier. Thanks in advance

It most likely is that you are seeing one spreadsheet (the proper term in Numbers is "table") spread over two pages, with the rightmost columns empty of any data. To confirm this, look to the left of the Numbers window, where it says "Sheets." Do you see more than one item under that heading that has a yellow box next to it? Most likely, you will see just one item like this. If so, you only have one table.
If not, you have more than one table & can probably just delete the second, empty one. This is easily done by clicking once on its little yellow icon, checking the print view to make sure that it is the one selected (it will have little squares at each corner & at each midpoint of its edges), & then pressing the delete key.
If you have only one table, confirm that it only has the number of rows & columns you expect: Click on any cell once. You should see an angular tab appear it the bottom right of the table. (Most likely, you will see the tab appear on the second page of your table.) Click & hold but do not drag on this tab. You should see a yellow box appear listing the number of rows & columns in the table.
If the column or row count isn't what you expect, you have extras that most likely are empty. You can delete them by hovering the pointer over the row or column label (at the top or left edge of the table, filled with letters or numbers) & clicking on the small triangle that appears. This drops down a menu with an option to delete the row or column.
I suggest you browse through the "Getting Started" booklet to become more familiar with the basic features of this & the other iWork applications. It should quickly become clear how to use them.
