IPhone 2.0 Update let down on original iPhone!!!

APPLE, YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!!! HAS ANYONE NOT NOTICED THAT THE SPEAKER VOLUME FOR YOUR IPOD ON THE ORIGINAL IPHONE HAS GOTTEN MUCH MUCH LOWER?
I NOW HAVE TO PUT MY EAR UP TO IT TO LISTEN TO THE SONG! WOW, IT IS SOOOO LOW?
AM I ALONE? SO ANNOYING!!!

Sad news. This happened to me long ago when I upgraded from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 .. the volume just disappeared. I took it to the Apple store where the Genius said he'd never seen that happen before. He spent about 3 minutes testing the phone then ..
gave me a brand new one. He said that somehow the update had affected the volume somehow, he didn't know.
All that to say, after that experience I was leary about upgrading to 2.0 but I did it yesterday and wouldn't you know it .. I can barely hear the ipod or anything again. Apparently this is a rare condition that happens to only a small group of iPhone owners. My warranty expires in August so I'm scheduling an appointment at our Apple store. Hopefully they'll give me a 3G phone. I imagine that's what they'd have to give me if they don't sell the old ones anymore. I suggest that you make an appointment at your Apple store too. Take the phone in, let them listen to the volume .. perhaps this is all good news if we get brand new 3G phones for free.

  • How to sync iPhone 3G (OS 4.1) with previous original iPhone ( OS 2.1)

how can i sync a second hand iPhone 3G (OS 4.1) that I just got, with my iTunes, addresses, calendar etc that is already sync with my original iPhone that is still on OS 2.1?
    thank u

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep everything straight, by device, upon subsequent syncs. So, plug it in and sync. If it has content and data from the previous user, you should delete that FIRST. Plug it into a wall outlet(this can take several hours), then: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. When finished, it will look just like it did when first taken out of the box. Plug it into itunes, name it what you want & sync.
Do you have a sim card for this phone? Your original iphone sim card will not work(doesn't support 3G). So, you most likely will need to obtain a new sim card if you want to use it as a phone. It will need a sim card in it to update software or restore the phone.

  • Selling orignial iPhone, what to do with AppleCare for original iPhone?

    Hi:
I recently received a new original iPhone as a replacement and also purchased the AppleCare for an additional year of warranty in case I have the same problem on this new iPhone (the home button stopped working). So now I am considering getting the 3G and selling this new 1st gen iPhone. What can I do with the AppleCare I have?
    1) Move it it the new phone?
    2) transfer it to the old phone new owner?
    3) all or non of the above?
    Thanks,
    mn3

You can look this up on Apple's web site.
"If you choose to sell or give away your Apple product, you can also transfer the ownership of the AppleCare Protection Plan. Please see the AppleCare Protection Plan Terms and Conditions for complete details."

  • Original Iphone Running Slow with 2.0 Upgrade?

After upgrading to the new software update 2.0, my original Iphone seems to be running slower than previously. This includes switching from applications, moving screens and even typing a simple note or text. Anyone else having this issue? If so, anyone have a quick fix on this? And yes, I have restarted the Iphone with no luck as well.

I think Apple is having massive issues with this whole "upgrade". In my opinion it has to do with the fact that applications can't run in the background (like most other real smartphones on the planet). I took my first generation iPhone into the store for this issue; the slowness progressed to the point that the entire phone crashed routinely requiring a full restore at least once every 3 days and several restarts a day. I had to restore my phone about 6 or 7 times a week.
I went into the store and they had a pile of 1st generation iPhones sitting there. Rather than go through the standard checklist of things that might be wrong, the Apple rep just handed me a new one and said that the new one should solve the issue. Three other customers were in there for the exact same reason; i overheard the rep tell one upset customer that it has to do with memory overload and that the memory module will eventually crash; hence the need for a new phone.
Going through this whole experience made me realize what an idiot i was to ditch my Curve for this garbage. I am waiting for the Blackberry Bold to be released and then i am ditching this paper-weight. Oh, and the new iPhone is even worse and is currently in restore mode as i write this.
Note to Apple; please continue to deny that you made a crappy product and continue to blame your issues on developers and the consumer. I am sure that business users like myself will be going back to RIM as soon as they can.
Advice to Business Apple iPhone Users; Sell your iPhone on ebay to some moron who is interested in playing Monkeyball and get a real business device that actually pushes email and doesn't crash three times a day.

  • Genius accidentally broke my original iPhone

Hi everyone. Here is a bit of my story.
I magically found my original iPhone in my drawer about 3 weeks ago. It still works! Charged it, updated it and it runs fine. Then, I made an appointment with Genius Bar at my local the Gateway Salt Lake City Apple Store to check the condition of the phone. The Genius came back and told me that he was unable to get my original SIM card out, might be something stuck in there. I never removed the sim card. It was the original AT&T SIM card that shipped with the phone back in 2007. He managed to get it out. I think he somehow forced it out of the iPhone so accidentally damaged it.
Today, I wanted to get nostalgic with my original iPhone. I pulled my current SIM card from my iPhone 4S, plugged it in to my original iPhone and it won't work! The screen said NO SIM CARD INSTALLED. I just got back from the Apple Store and the other Genius told me to pay $150 to get the phone replaced since it is an old phone and they wont carry it in store.
I need an advice, should I just go in to the store again and talk to the manager and hope that they can waive the replacement fee? Thanks.

Being nice doesn't usually work in negotiations. but it sure does work well most of the time when only you want something. Go back, be honest, be nice as you ask for what you want. If you have bought a lot of Apple goodness over the years, couldn't hurt to point that out.

  • What to do with original iphone 2g, 8 gb?

I have an iphone 3gs, 32 gb ordered and the original iphone. My ipod nano 4gb just died (old one), so I have some choices to make about my iphone 2g:
    1. Sell it, no idea how much what with 3g's at 99.00.
    2. Make it my new ipod.
    3. Use it as my developer iphone (obviously limited due to old hardware).
    4. Unlock it and play with that.
    5. ?
    Any ideas?

    All good options.
I also liked the comment posted about keeping it as a backup. I used my original 2g, 4gb as a back up when I had some trouble with my 2g,8gb.
I am giving mine to my wife to use as an iPod Touch. Her company provides her phone, but they do not offer iPhone as an option.
As far as selling is concerned, dont forget that the $99 3g,8gb is for people who are eligible to get a 2 year contract with ATT. <Edited by Host>
I saw a few first generation phones on eBay going for over $100 with minor defects (one even had some dead pixels) and none of the included accessories.
When the hoopla of the new phones dies down in a few months you might even fetch a few more dollars.
    Best of luck!

  • When I changed my ATT email password, I can no longer open my email in my Iphone, even after updating my password. What do i need to to do?

When I changed my ATT email password, I can no longer retreive my email on my Iphone, even after updating my password in my Iphone. What's wrong? How do i fix it?

make sure the outgoing (smtp server) has the updated password also. settings>mail, contact, calendars>then at account>it will say outgoing, smtp or advanced. after clicking on the smtp it will have an option to change that password, delete it and add ur new one

  • Using the original iPhone without service

i just switched to the iPhone 3Gs...as for my original iPhone, i know i can still use it as an iPod. and i can still use safari and maps but with WiFi, correct?...if so, can i use the Appstore icon and iTunes icon on the phone? and how would that work in regards to adding it to iTunes on my computer?
also, if i want to give my original iPhone to someone else, what do i have to do? remove the sim card? how would i reset the original phone to its original setting, wiping it clean of anything i added on to it(phone numbers, music, movies, apps)?

Any app you can use over Wi-Fi will work just the same. iTunes will happily sync with multiple devices. As long as you are using the same iTunes Store account on computer, iPhone and de-activated iPhone, purchases should freely move around among the three.
To use the old phone as an iPod touch, make sure it keeps the SIM card, as here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406
To clear out the info, you can either Restore as New via iTunes, or on the phone use Settings>General>Reset which has several options.

  • Please fix the sensor! I want my original iphone back!

I want my original iphone back!! I LOVED my original iphone. I never even upgraded to 3g or 3gs because it always just worked for me. I was excited to try the new iphone 4, thinking it was time to upgrade. I'm so sorry I did it. I am now on my 2nd iphone 4 and am even more unhappy than I was with the first one. I didn't have dropped calls on my first one but the time keep changing to another time zone randomly and didn't change when it should. Now with my second iphone 4 I'm having the sensor issue CONSTANTLY. I've tried it with case, without case, it doesn't seem to even matter. I put people on hold, speakerphone, disconnect, mute. It's a nightmare.
I have been a loyal apple advocate since in the early 80's but this product may just shake my support. PLEASE fix this issue. Don't tell me to buy a case! It doesn't fix the problem.
    Unhappy. : )

I wonder if all the people reporting the problem hold the phone between their shoulder and their cheek?
(I have to admire such courage. You wouldn't catch me using my £600 phone whilst intentionally leaving go of it!)

  • Original iphone activation

I have an original iphone (day 1) that I dropped on its head and now has problems. I own a backup original iphone that I want to use in its place. Can I activate the backup without a new contract? I don't want to lose my upgrade discount. I swapped the SIM card and itunes acts as if I am a new customer, asking me what calling plan I want.

I was not answering a question posed by 'every iPhone user,' I was answering the specific question posed by rockhead above, who stated, +"I have an original iphone (day 1)..."+ The Original iPhone was launched on June 29, 2007 (i.e. 'day 1') and at that time was available only in the USA with a 2-year AT&T contract. It was launched in 3 more countries in late 2007 and 2 more in early 2008. The Original iPhone was never available in Finland, by the way...

    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer
To reset the SMC on newer Mac portables with a battery you cannot remove
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.
