IPhone 3G in BMW X5.

iPhone 3G in BMW X5. Up to a year ago I could see all my contacts through the screen in the car, but now I can only see them up to the letter "M". BMW say Apple will need to change the software. Has anyone else had/solved this issue? Many thanks to anyone that can help!!!

It feels such a waste to have a perfectly usable and amazing (though apparently obsolete) phone which can't be used for a tiny little bug when it's not connected to the charging station :C

Yes. I had an iPhone 3G and when upgraded to 6.1 the bluetooth connectivity failed progressively and eventually the phone just wouldn't connect. I broke and reestablished the pairing am few times and each time it would work for a while then disconnect to the extent I thought the bluetooth hardware in the car was failing. I then got an iPhone 5 and the same issue remained. In the last few days I've paired an old Blackberry with the car kit to rule out the BMW hardware. Blackberry is fine so it has to be iOS incompatibility.

Hi Can anyone help me please.
I have a BMW X5
I have an iphone 5 which worked perfectly in my car until i did the update.
Once i did theupdate my car says "No entrie" ( Contacts, Dialled numbers, Received calls etc)
I have tried removing it and reinstalling it but I still end up with the same thing.
My daughter has the same phone with the update and when i try and pair hers it works perfectly.
I have checked the settings on both phones and they appear to be the same.
Can any one please offer any assistance.
I have been to BMW and they can not fix it either as they said it is a phone issue.

BMW will likely put out an update to support the newest OS. Remember, its up to third parties to keep up to date with Apples OS's. It's not Apples job to make sure their OS works with all previous accessories!

Have you gone through the pairing process? I assume you need to use BlueTooth.
If you have paired, try turning Bluetooth off then on.

1) Turned on Bluetooth on Iphone ( phone already paired to BMW)
2) connected iPhone to BMW using Bluetooth
3) pressed Media button on BMW IDrive controller
4) Clicked on External Devices
5) Clicked on the name of my Iphone on IDrive screen

when i plug in my iphone and am listening to a song and i receive a message/text, i bounces out of music mode, and goes to the radio on the bmw. it is like it stops the music program on the iphone, the car doesn't know what to do, and then reverts back to default, which is the radio.

I have a similar problem with iPhone 6 and OS 8.0.2. My older iPhone 5 and OS 7.1 had no problems. I am not using the later Combox ConnectedDrive w/ USB, but the legacy 30pin interface w/ lightning to 30pin accessory, with the BMW supplied Y-cable with my MY2010 CIC equipped vehicle.
I can't start / stop playback or play a track listed. It is actually listing the tracks out though.
Tried unplugging / replugging phone, adapter, restarting CIC headunit (holding volume for 20 seconds), switching inputs, killing all apps. Only thing that seems to temporarily resolve it is hard restart of phone.
I reported feedback to Apple.

i have just connected iphone to bmw idrive.this works but there is no contact list when trying to dial.this was always available on other phones nokia blackberry.i have to dial from phone

It looks like there is a problem with the 3G Iphone running 2.02 and BMW's older than September 2007.
Apple is blaming BMW and BMW are blaming Apple. As my car has bluetoothed perfectly with several makes of phone I believe that this is an Apple problem. The fact that many people had the early Iphones working up to firmware 1.14 seems to indicate that it is indeed an Apple problem with the newer versions of firmware.
HOPEFULL APPLE WILL PROVIDE A FIX SOON !

Iphone 3g and BMW

I have the new 3g iphone and although it has paired OK with my BMW, the address book doesn't display in the car. I didn't have this problem with my original iphone.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

upon reading other forums it seems that most cars pre september 2007 have the same problem with the new iphone 2.0 software !

IPhone network with Bmw Bluetooth

Something weird happens since the last sw update of my iPhone.
I have my car parked in a garage with no GSM line whatsoever. Once I enter my car the phone connects correctly to the original BMW bluetooth speakerphone, but the phone will not join any GSM network, also once I leave the garage and there is a good line coverage, until i press the top (on/off) button of the phone once.
Does anybody have my same problem?

IPhone 4 in BMW with Bluetooth audio no track info

I recently installed my new iPhone 4 with 4.26 software on it in my bmw528 and activated Bluetooth audio. I do have the ability to play music, but it says that the track info cannot be displayed. It only shows a forward and back arrow to go to next track or back to previous track. Is this normal? If I use the USB connection I can see everything, including playlists and trac info,
Any ideas?

Hi Favial55: That is certainly the way it operates on my Bluetooth equipped Tundra. Bluetooth simply displays "Streaming Audio"

BMW 1 Series (iDrive) and iPhone - incorrect PIN ?

Hi All,
I have a Sept 2007 1 series with idrive/bluetooth... from what i've read most people seem to be able to pair their iphone with the BMW BT ok, but i can't even get that far !
When trying to pair, i can see the bmw device, enter a pin on the iphone, enter the same pin on the car system, and then get an error on the iphone saying cannot pair. I know officially this isn't listed, but most people seem to suggest it works, with possible echo and address book issues
Other phones work OK, and other BT headsets & Parrot car kit works OK with the iphone
iPhone (original 2G) is running v2.1 of the software
Does anyone know if this should pair at least or have any suggestions ?

It should pair, as I tested a 128i convertible a few weeks ago with iDrive for a week. I remember having some trouble with the pairing, but (and sorry I can't remember this more specifically) you have to move the iDrive controller up (I believe) to move onto the next step in the pairing process. Being new to iDrive, I found that part of the iDrive interface frustrating and hard to understand. It did eventually work, though.

IPhone and BMW

I use my IPhone in my BMW 5 Series all the time. Bluetooth works great. IPod works great. I plug it into the USB and AUX ports in the car. Problem: It doesn't seem to charge when it is plugged in, especially if I am using it for music and/or navigation functions. If I plug it into the cig lighter it charges fine, but of course the music and speaker functions do not work. On a long drive, listening to music and making occasional calls (and searching for service in rural areas) it will run down entirely. Seems like it should have plenty of power to "do" anything if it is plugged in. Suggestions?

You need the snap in adapter, this will charge your phone,play music etc etc, it also uses the cars shark fin to improve phone signal too.

Recent model BMWs support the iPhone (in iPod mode) via the docking connector. Songs then show up on the BMW screen and play through the audio system. The BMW will also connect via Bluetooth to the iPhone for phone functions including downloading the iPhone address book.
I don't have a BMW myself but the Chairman of our company does (and uses his iPhone with it).
It is a bit silly and annoying that the phone functions of the iPhone will not work via the docking connector (hence also needing to use Bluetooth). It is also annoying that you cannot use the iPhone as a GPRS modem for GPS devices like the TomTom or Garmin (to get traffic updates). My Chairman's BMW has a built-in GPS system so he does not see this problem.

Has anyone discovered the Bluetooth connection solution w/ our 4 S iphones? My BMW X5 won't locate the bluetooth - but had ZERO issues with my previous iphone version.

Hi Annie I have just seen this post and several others which have been archived but I've found nowhere where it says Apple have actually solved the issue.
I too have the same problem, the 4S wont pair with my car no matter how many times I try. It wont even pair with any other 4S in the same room as me.
I contacted Apple and when they got back to me I was told that I can only pair with another iphone (some hopes) - and, outrageously, it is just in case I bluetooth something I have purchased to someone else???? Also if it wont work it my car there is nothing Apple can do about it, it must be my car?????

How do I use my iphone 6 for calls and music. I want to use the auto speakers and display - hands free.
MY 2013 BMW x5 has a usb port between the front seats and Bluetooth.
Is it as simple as plug in, connect tp Bluetooth and use the iDrive functions to define what Imwant to do?
I'm over 70 and its my wifes' phone.

You have two choices: 1. Get your phone officially unlocked, then purchase local sims in Europe...cheap, or 2. Put your phone in Airplane Mode, then go back into settings & turn WiFi on.
