IPhone 3GS has gone completely dead, after telling me to connect to iTunes, after trying to update the software.
My parents are about to recieve an upgrade to their contract which currently is an iPhone. They asked me to sync their iPhone to iTunes to save the settings, should they get an iPhone again.
When I tried to sync the phone, iTunes prompted a software update (this doesn't suprise me as they wouldn't see the need to connect it to the computer ever!)
Naturally, I accepted this update, only for an error to occr. (I didn't see this, my Dad said it happened but didn't note the error code down.)
Then, when I went to use the phone, it said on the screen, "connect to iTunes". On doing this, neither iTunes or the phone had no response. I set the iPhone into recovery mode to restore it from iTunes, and the phone flashed white for half a second and then cut out. I've had no response from it since, tried charging and leaving it plugged into the computer.
Any ideas?

Oddly, I've now fiddled with it a bit more, and I can manage to get the Apple logo up for a short time, but if I let go of the hold button it cuts out again.
If I continue to hold it, the logo turns into connect to iTunes. I do this, no response from iTunes.

Z1 wont turn back on after trying to update the software !
last night i tried to update to the current software.
1 it backed up the phone as always
2 it was in the process of prparint the phone for update. i left the phone connected to the pc while it did this. when i came back in the pc was a blue screen saying it had to shut down.
3 the pc restarted but now my pc wont recognise the phone at all, ive tried using different usb ports and ive also uninstalled then reinstalled sony pc companion but the pc still wont recognise the phone.
4 when i try to turn the phone on i get a message saying software update failed and reconnect to the pc !
what is wrong ???I had a similar problem, does the phone show anything on the screen, for example "update failed, connect to computer" if it does, try opening "Sony PC Companion 2.1" click start on "support zone" then click "phone/ tablet software update" a message will pop up, press repair my phone / tablet, select your phone in the list, then follow what it says, try doing this even if the phone shows nothing, you will lose everything, all data will be gone if you follow my steps

have you tried charging the device ?
if so and it still does not work you can try a Forced Recovery..
by holding the HOME button down and plugging it into your computer at the same time..

I tried to update the software of my iphone 3gs while charging with my Macbook Pro. While the phone was restarting after installation, in the setting up my phone menu, it stops midway with a message in itunes on the laptop that there is no simcard.
Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken the update restore the lock. -
My ipad's screen has gone completely blank. I can't see anything. Have attempted to update and restore it, but to no avail. Does anyone have an idea on how to resolve this issue?
Try Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected. -
I have just bought iPhone 3gs in Sept.11. I was trying to update the software using itunes but it is showing Error "-3259" saying connection timeout. Please help.
Did you already check your securit software settings? iTunes has to contact Apple during the update process.

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

When i connected my Iphone to Itunes it started to update the software, and then said it's unable to update and to please restore it, now it wont "activate" and keeps saying "try again"
What iPhone do you have? You can check in settings>>general>> about.
If you have a 3G you cannot update beyond iOS 4.2.1. The 3G is over 4 years old an was discontinued over 2 1/2 years ago. You need the latest ios to run the latest versions of some apps. If you have a 3GS you can update.
If your phone is not responding, reset it by pressing and holding down both the home button ad lock/ sleep button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
