IPhone 4 crashed, blank screen, broken home button, and iTunes won't allow access unless I "respond with phone," how do I reboot or get my data off this phone?
The power button on my iPhone broke a few months ago, so I have been using the assisted touch feature to lock the screen. Last night, in the middle of using an app, the phone froze and nothing working except the assisted touch icon (I could use it and move it around). I locked the screen using this, which evidently was a mistake, because now I have a blank screen that won't respond to anything. When I connect the charger, the phone still makes the normal sounds and vibrations, but the screen is blank. I can't do a hard reboot without the power button. I recently bought a new computer, so today I downloaded iTunes, but iTunes wants me to "respond with the phone" in order to continue. How can I at LEAST upload my contacts, photos and video from this phone? Or is there a trick I can try to bring it back from this black screen that is non-responsive? And NO...I'm not interested in putting it in the freezer!!
Honestly the hard really right now to say what you can do. How long have you had the device? If it's under a year you can take it to apple store and they can switch it out for free. If it's over a year then it would be at a paid cost cause they can't fix that issue.

I am trying to sync my ipod shuffle to the itunes on my computer. When I try to sync I go to the drop down file tab. PULL up "devices" But the extended options of SYNC, RESTORE, Transfer and Backup won't allow me to click on them. How do I activate?
Those menu bar commands are disabled when you do not have a device (your shuffle) selected in iTunes.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of iTunes) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. In the sidebar, your shuffle should be listed under DEVICES. Click on it there to select it. Now, those commands under the File menu should be accessible.
However, once you have the shuffle selected, many of those "device-related" commands in the menu bar are also on the iTunes window. For example, there is a Sync button at the low-right corner of the window, which does the same thing as the command in the menu bar. -
I have a Mac Pro OS 10.7.5 and have a DVD+R disc with files on it, but it ejects the disk after about 10 seconds--what to do? How can I get the data off this disc? I can see it has been already burned, so files are on there?
Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive. Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

We have a gift card for iTunes that was purchased in the United States and we live in Canada and iTunes won't allow us to redeem it. Is there any way we can exchange it?
Sorry, but as KP guessed, Apple will not exchange the card, and you are correct that you can't use a US iTunes card in Canada. You will need to give or sell it to someone in the US.

I have an iPhone with a completely shattered screen (the display wont even show up, just a black screen), the home button does not work. I have a passcode on the device, but I have not synced the device with my current PC (I got a new computer and don't have any of my syncs from my old computer). I recieved my replacement device today, and want to back up the iphone before I activate the new device - but I get prompted to put in my code on the phone before it will allow me to back it up. As the display is completely black and does not appear to respond to touch, and the home button is broken so I cannot put it in recovery mode... What do I do? If I took the phone in to my carrier's store, would they be able to override the passcode and put my information on my new device?

Just added a third iPod touch to the family collection of devices and it won't allow me to ad apps from iTunes to the device. Can add songs though?

Ok ok. I found an old iPhone 4 that used to be my older sister's when she had her phone in the shop. I was planning on using it until i could figure out what to do with my broken 5s. The only problem is that my sister forgot the passcode and i can't set it to factory settings without the home button which happens to be broken. Any suggestions?
again, i dont know the password and i couldnt get into the phone in the first place. i thought of setting it to factory settings to reset the whole thing and take the passcode off but you need a working home button for that to work. i already have assistive touch on it from when my sister used it but that doesnt help when trying to put it in recovery mode. sorry if i wasnt clear before i kind of disabled it to the point where it says connect to itunes to unlock it but it wouldnt work because ive never used this phone before and never synced it to this computer so i was freaking out a bit... :\

I was pranking my friend that doesn't like other people taking pictures of him.
He thought I was really taking a photo so he slapped the iphone out of my
hand and it fell on and turned off. I ran home I tried turning it on but nothing worked
so I opened the cause I thought it was the screen because I just put on a new screen
3 weeks ago. So I opened all the screws and took everything out then put everything back
in and closed the screws. I put the phone on charge and it was nothing but blank except
it kept vibrating. I restored it to factory settings. but that didnt work. I tried holding down
the Lock/Home button but nothing worked. I am phone-less. please I need a solution fast
- iPhone 4sWell, since you decided to take the phone apart, and you have already tried the normal troubleshooting measures we would suggest (like resetting the device), you are pretty much up a creek. There is no telling what may or may not be wrong with the device, since it has been taken apart.

I've tried resetting privacy settings, home screen, restarting iPad and even went to settings to enable all apps but the iTunes and apps icons are greyed out and cannot be changed! I tried disabling the settings but it still is grayed out and will not switch to on. What can I do? Do I need to complete a factory reset?

Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it! It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

I have had my iPad for almost a year but now it's acting up! Everytime I try to download or update an app, a message pops up to sign in but then says I have wrong pin for debit card.. I know it's right bc it's the same card I've been using all year! I've tried restarting, changing cards, clearing up memory,nothing works!! Has anyone else had this problem and How do I fix it??!!
Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in again.
Maybe refreshing your ID and iTunes account on the iPad will help. -
I had 67% power at 10 am but when I went to lunch at 1 my phone was dead. I tried plugging it into a power source but it still wont turn on, and as previously stated my lock button is broken. How do I turn it on?
If that is not successful try the remaining items of:

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Ok, I am trying to restore my iPhone 3Gs to 5.0.1 and when I do, it looks like it is going well until it says that is it preparing to restore, it keeps me stuck at that spinning bar and then after a while it gives me the error 1601 unknown error has occurred. I have tried looking on Google for over 3 hours now trying to find the answer to my problem and sadly I cant find one, I am trying to restore my IPhone because earlier I was playing with it and it ran out of battery and I let it change and walked away form it, I came back 1 hour later and it was still at the boot logo of apple, I waited 2 hours and it did nothing, just stayed with the boot logo. I then put it into DFU mode and it appears in iTunes as in DFU mode and can be restored but like I said above that it just gives me an error. I have looked into Google and tried every way possible and found out that I may have the black screen of death. If you have this problem and found a way other than getting a new iPhone, please contact me on this page because I am not in the mood to buy a new iPhone because this one has an expired warranty.
Also i have tryed all the things in the error support page and nothing works, uninstalled itunes completely and did all that other stuff but still the same problem and i have not found a way to fix this.Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

That is right. An iDevice can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. If you still have the computer just cpy/export yur iTunes libray to a USB stick or similar and import it ito the new computer. Also copy the iPod backup file to the new computer. That file is locaed here:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Transfer iTunes purhases to the new computer by:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Then let iTunes erase you iPod and restore the iPod from the backup and then sync.
