IPhone 4S AND 5S freeze when trying to delete message threads?

I have the newest software available and both phones are up to date.
When I go to delete old message threads, my iPhone freezes. It will let me swipe to the side and clear them, but after 2 or 3 threads it will freeze. I'll be in the Messages section and it will be unresponsive. I will close out of it and then when I reopen it- it says I have 0 messages altogether.  I have to literally turn my phone off and then back on to view my inbox again- and the message threads I thoght were deleted are still there.
Does anyone else have this problem, or a way to fix it?

Hello Makayla,
It sounds like you're deleted message threads keep coming back after you restart the devie. I recommend starting by quitting all the running apps on your phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes and then restore it as a new device and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Sterling

  • My Creative zen x-fi keeps freezing when trying to delete tracks.

AMy Creative zen x-fi keeps freezing when trying to delete tracks.> Hi. Was hoping someone could help me. I brought a creative zen x-fi and half of the times i tried to delete a track or album it would freeze, i'd reset it and the track or album was not deleted. I sent it back and brought a new one however my new one does the same except more, about 8 out of 0 times when i try to delete a track or album it freezes. It doesn't seem to have any problems deleting anything else e.g photos, videos. I looked on the support section of the site and it mentioned that the player could keep freezing if there were corrupted files. Pleae could someone tell me what exactly this mean? (i'm a bit of an amateur when it comes to things like this ) All the music on my player is from ripped cds or what was already on the laptop or player to begin with, so could there be any corrupted files from those?

    Nvm,the cleanup works Thanks man

  • Keyboard and mouse freeze when trying to play Maplestory

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro and have boot camped Windows XP sp3 onto it.
I play a game called maplestory, and when I try to play it via boot camp, my keyboard and mouse freeze as soon as all of the intro splashes are done (So, once I get to the log in screen).
All background programs work fine, however since I can't use my keyboard or mouse I can't do anything. The Apple Remote also doesn't function.
This problem seems to be exclusive to Maplestory, as games such as Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, Doom3, and Portal all work fine.

  • Mail stuck on one message and unexpectedly quits when trying to delete it

My mail was working fine until a few hours ago, no gliches at all. I checked the new mail and when attempting to delete the first new message, mail unexpectedly quit. I reopened it and tried to select another message and it quit again. Basically, I can't do anything except view this one email. Anything else causes mail to quit. I tried going accessing my mail online and deleting the messages but that has not worked. It appears the messages are stuck in my inbox.
I ran disk utility to check the permissions, etc. Have not tested and repaired the start up disk.
    Any advice would help
    Thanks

If I’ve understood it correctly, all you have to do is find a way to select the message and delete it without causing Mail to display its contents. Proceed as follows:
    1. Launch Mail holding the Shift key down until the main window appears. This tells Mail to not select any mailboxes or load any messages upon start up.
    2. Go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled -- having this setting enabled is a really bad idea for spam-related security reasons anyway.
If you have the preview pane visible, Mail may still crash again as soon as you select the troublesome message. There are at least three ways to select the message so that you can delete it without Mail displaying the message contents:
3a. You can hide the preview pane by dragging the horizontal separator bar between the message list and the preview pane to the bottom of the window, or just double-click within the separator bar, so that the preview pane disappears and only the message list is visible. This would prevent Mail from trying to load the message when it is selected in the message list. To make the preview pane visible again, drag the horizontal separator bar up from the bottom of the window, or just double-click on it again.
3b. If you select the message with the mouse, the message is displayed in the preview pane when the mouse button is released, not when it’s pressed. This allows you to drag the message to the Trash or to any other mailbox without Mail trying to display its contents.
3c. Ctrl-clicking on a message causes a contextual menu to appear, from which you can usually (but not always, don’t ask me why) choose Delete or Move To, without the contents of the message being displayed in the preview pane.

  • IPad 2 - email shuts down when trying to delete messages

Whenever I try to delete email messages, I click on "Edit", check the messages to be deleted. The red Delete button shows up and as soon as I touch it the entire email program shuts down and returns to the home page. The next "Delete Message" button does not show up before it shuts down.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the account which helped, but the problem came back again. Any suggestions?

I normally would suggest that you have an email with a funky attachment that might be causing a problem. You could try going to your webmail in a browser - either on your iPad or on your computer - and look for an email with a large spreadsheet file, photo, video, or some type of attachment that might be too large for the iPad to read and delete the message from the server, restart your iPad and then try the Mail App again.
Here are some other generic things that you can try and maybe one of these will help.
Quit the mail app by double tapping the home button to bring up the multitasking/recents tray at the bottom, hold down on the mail app icon in the tray until all the icons wiggle, then tap the minus sign in the corner to quit the mail app. Tap the screen outside outside of the recents tray to go back to the home screen. Then restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears, then slide to the right to power off the iPad. Turn the iPad on again by pressing the sleep button until the Apple logo appears.
Try a hard reset by pressing and holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad while holding down on the home button at the bottom, until the Apple logo appears and the iPad restarts.

  • I updated my iPod 4 gen to iOS 6 and its freezing when trying to restart, how can I fix this?

It keeps freezing with a blue or white screen.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Mail freezes when displaying or deleting messages from Linked In

Recently when I open the Mail program the computer freezes up with the spinning pinwheel. It will freeze for a few minutes and then usually come back to life. I've noticed that if any email from Linked In is selected, or deleted, or opened then I am certain to get the freeze. Usually when I try to delete a Linked In email there will be an error message that the email could not be deleted after the Mac wakes up from the freeze. Any ideas?

I cleared the Console log file. Launched Mail. Selected two emails that I expected to cause trouble (from Linked In). Deleted them. The spinning pinwheel came up. After a couple of minutes Mail started responding, but I didn't see anything happen in the log file. I selected another email and deleted it. The spinning pinwheel came up again. After a while I got an error message about deleting the first two files (unable to delete) and there was activity in the log file. Over the next few minutes I continued to get episodes of spinning pinwheel and period activity in the log file. Here is the file:

  • "Unable to move message to Trash" when trying to delete message on Apple mail default app

I have tried deleting and reading the account multiple times however the issue still persists. We are using Office 365 Exchange server. I have also tried setting the trash folder to sync.

    Hi,
    Does it work through OWA?
If OWA works, you may need to check whether EWS works fine on both Apple client side and Exchange side.

  • IPhoto freezing when trying to import photos from iPhone

iPhoto has started freezing when trying to import photos from an iPhone. The device is recognised but just get "loading . . . " message with no photos appearing. Has anyone else seen this?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Firefox freezes when trying to upload or download a file. (Antivirus all disabled doesn't help). IE works fine. Happened with v3 and v4. Any clues?

Firefox locks when trying to upload or download any file, size irrelevant.
I've disabled firewall and all antivirus apps to no effect.
This happens with v3 and v4.
    IE works fine.

'''Addendum:''' The freeze is also happening at random even without opening Firefox, it has a chance of happening when I click something. My computer has frozen when I: 1- clicked the "reveal desktop" button to minimize all windows; 2- Attempted to close a tab in Chrome; 3- Clicked "play" in a Youtube video that had been loaded and waiting for some time). It will also almost always freeze when I leave it idle for more than about 10 minutes.
But it will '''guaranteedly''' freeze when trying to open FF, which doesn't happen with any other program.
I think my computer is breaking down. :(
