IPhone 4s contacts randomly disappeared

10 minutes ago i was texting my mate and all of a sundden all my contacts just disappeared, i dont use iCloud or any other back up storage services as i dont believe that a £500 phone would have these problems.  My iphones is only 6 months old and already behaving like a 3 year old on crack! Does nayone know how to fix this?
Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers

Yes, I already tried toggling on/off iCloud under my settings several times and several days.  Each time, this does not resolve the problem.
Yes, I have already checked my iCloud account online on my laptop and can clearly see all my contacts there.  I also checked my Verizon Backup Assistant online via my Verizon online account and my contacts are all there.  That said, I cant find the instructions on how I can transfer the contacts from either one, back to my iphone 4s. :/
Since, I posted my problem; by some mysterious reason all my contacts re-appeared completely intact back on my phone with no rhyme or reason.  I was happy, since I got them all back on my phone without me doing anything.  That said, THIS week it has happened AGAIN!  I wasn't on my phone, it was just sitting on the coffee table, and I got a text message from a friend so I picked up the phone only to see all my contacts were gone and their names weren't showing up under the texts/messages app or my recent contact phone log or voicemail anymore.  It has been 4 days now, today and they have not re-appeared again like they did last time.
Yes, I tried doing all of the toggle on/off on iCloud again; and I also toggled the on/off on my contacts under all my gmail accounts too, and still nothing.
As for the hotmail, issue.....no I am not using a 3rd party hotmail app (never have).  Up until my most recent software update, I was using the "Outlook" option given when under "Settings->Mail,Contacts, Calendars-->Add Account".  However, since the update when I use this option, it doesn't "pull/sync" my emails to my phone.  I instead use the "Other" option now, and that fixed the email issue.  So I have come to my own conclusion that the email issue, was unrelated to the My Contacts issue, discussed above.

  • Contacts Randomly Disappeared

My contacts randomly disappeared in my iPhone 4s. It is brand new, and I just got it a few days ago. I had retrieved all my old contacts from iCloud but then they suddenly disappeared randomly. My contacts on iCloud.com are gone as well. I tried Importing from SIM as well but that did not work. Turned off mail back-up on iCloud, I was texting and randomly, the name of the text became just a bunch of phone numbers. Anyone else have a similar issue and have a solution?
By the way, I have no back-up restore point on my computer because it is brand new as well.
    Thanks!

OK. i solved this by going to settings, icloud, and putting the "contacts" toggle back on..... how did it turn itself off??? anyway. fixed. contacts back to norm.
    hope this helps? :S
this exact thing happened to me: from txsunrunner "My phone was functioning normally, I put it down for a while, I checked it later for messages and all my text message contacts were listed only as numbers.  I tried restarting my phone, but it didn't solve the issue. "

  • Contacts randomly disappearing

    T-Mobile iPhone 6 Plus running iOS8.1.1.
Contacts are being erased from my phone randomly.
Received calls / iMessages will display phone number rather than contact name and the contacts have apparently vanished completely from list.
Random contacts, not the entire list. Contacts are synced with iCloud.
    Any info regarding this issue?
Suggestions and solutions are greatly appreciated.

I too face the same situation of disappearing contacts - randomly, sometimes within days of entering the contact name, leading to embarassing situations.  Since my configuration is also synced to Outlook, one possibility is the syncing occuring in the reverse direction (ie the entry being deleted by the blank one in the Outlook database).
Whatever be the case, this is simply inexcusable design.  Appreciate any ideas on how to fix.

  • E7 - Exchange contacts randomly disappearing

Hi, I've got an E7 phone which is synchronized to my Exchange 2003/Outlook 2010 email account.  Since I got this phone, I've had problems on multiple occasions with contacts simply disappearing - they are suddenly gone from both my phone and my Outlook account.  I have a lot of contacts in my address book that I don't use regularly, so it's hard to know just how widespread the problem is.  But three or four times over the last few months, a very important contact has disappeared, along with all the notes and information that I'd added.  Can anyone help me with this?

  • My iPhone 4g contacts have disappeared - Lion Macbook Pro

I installed Lion from my Leopard Macbook OS a few weeks ago and, out of nowhere and after multiple syncs on Lion, my iPhone contacts totally disappeared today. I've restarted the phone a few times, reset the syncs, downloaded isync (which got deleted in my Lion installation but didn't even recognize my iPhone), reset my Gmail contacts, created new Address Book groups, etc. Nothing I'm doing is getting my contacts back and none of them show up as anything but the numbers (no names or other contact info attached).
Does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem? I'm on 4g, 4.10.00, Lion on Macbook Pro, newest iTunes, newest iSync. I would appreciate any advice!!

Thanks for the response. Yes, the contacts in Address Book (AB) are all On My Mac. They've always been there. My Gmail AB also is set to sync to the phone but it stopped working at the same time. I restored both the Mac/Gmail AB but it didn't solve the sync. For some reason, iTunes doesn't seem to recognize my Mac AB although everything on AB looks fine.
I do use Time Machine on my backup drive but it doesn't really solve the problem, I don't think. Mac/Gmail AB are fine. I wouldn't think that Time Machine would solve an iTunes problem since I haven't done any updates for iTunes in the last week.
    Does that clarify?

  • My contacts on my iPhone 4s just randomly disappeared. What do I do?

I need help... I went into messages and as soon as I got in, my contact names all disappered and now I only have numbers. Then I checked my "contacts" app and it said there were no contacts. How do I fix this?

Need to find out where the contacts may be. If if you have any email accounts on the phone, check the online version for contacts. If you find them there, there you can toggle them off and on in the phone:
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>then tap on the account. The account settings whould be there. Tap to turn off Contacts, then tap again to turn them on.
If you don't find them there, then try going to icloud.com Log in there and then click on Contacts. If you find them there, then once again on the phone, tap on Settings>iCloud, then tap the contacts off and back on.
If that does not resolve it then double press on the home button. Then swipe out the phone and message apps. Then use the top power button and shut the phone down. Once the screen is black then count to 5 and turn it back on.
Once of those should bring your contacts back.

  • My contacts randomly disappear on my mac book pro and my iphone 4. any thoughts?

I am having problems with my address book. I have my iphone4 and my mac book pro synced through icloud. no other users on my i.d.
It seems to be consistant with the adresses that are rarely used. They drop off after a certain time frame? Not sure whats happening. Please advise.

Yeah, I don't think that's necessarily all the issues here (re: iOS update). I have 7 devices that have stopped functioning within the last week and all of my devices have the latest iOS on them. I came to the forums to see what's available for help, but I'm guessing I'll need a trip to the local Genius Bar.

  • Why do my iPhone 5s contacts randomly go missing?

I have an iPhone 5s.  I originally had 119 contacts in my contacts list.  Randomly, I noticed that my list of recent text messages had almost everyone listed by their phone number rather than by their name from my contact list so I checked my contact list and realized that there were only 41 contacts shown there.  I had not recently done any updates or changed any settings before this happened.
    What's weird is:
    1) If I create a new text message and start typing the name of a "missing" contact, the contact comes up along with their phone number so that I can send them the text message.
    2) If I create a new email message and start typing the name of a "missing" contact, the contact comes up along with their email address so that I can send them the email.
Since I couldn't find a solution to this issue online and I was freaking out about losing my contact information, I did a full restore from a recent backup and all 119 of my contacts were there after the restore.  2 days later, the same thing happened again, so I did another restore.  After the 2nd restore, I turned off the automatic icloud backup just in case this was somehow the cause but it has now happened again so it can't be icloud synch related.  I refuse to do another restore from backup - it takes too long and it's not the right answer to this issue.  Someone out there has to know the cause and what I can do to prevent it from happening again.  Better yet, since it seems that the contacts are "hiding" somehow on my phone (see points 1 and 2 above), perhaps there's a way for me to get them to show back up in my contacts list?  I'm really frustrated that I've lost so many of my contacts.
Any help is greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

I had been syncing with iCloud but, as mentioned, I turned off the automatic syncing to see if that was the issue.  The last manual sync to iCloud I did was las night, after which all of my contacts were still there - they were also still there this morning.  I randomly looked at my phone about an hour ago and realized the issue had happened again so no sync was done between last night's and the issue happening again today.

I have been having a ton of problems with my iPhone 4 lately. Since I updated to the new version of iTunes, it won't sync anymore. And just now, making me very upset, my contacts icon has disappeared!!
I really hope you can help me
    Thank you!

  • My iphone 4s contact suddenly disappear. Lucky i got backup. What is happening? Can Apple fix this bug?

    As above.

How do you know it's a bug and not user error?  What were you doing with the device when the Contacts disappeared?

  • Hey all, my iphone 4 contacts keep disappearing.  I do not use MobileMe.

    Hey all,
As above, I do not use MobileMe as I know it could be related from viewing other articles...
I can get them back by resyncing to my mac, however, as soon as I view my contacts, its seems the phone does a process and they all disappear again.
I tried, erasing all content and data on my phone and re-setting up as a new phone.
I tried, simply restoring from itunes completley.
I tried, importing from sim card, but nothing really appears.
Any help would be greatly appriciated....suggestions, anything.
    Thanks

  • HT1766 Having problems with my Iphone - my contacts have "disappeared" from my phone.  They are saved in I-Cloud.  Can I restore just the contacts to my phone?

I have an I-phone 4S.  I have backed up my phone to I Cloud.  My contacts continue to completely disappear from my phone.  They are backed up on I-Cloud (I have checked that they are there, through my computer.
How can I restore my contacts to my phone from I Cloud?
    Thank you!

If you've restored your phone as NEW and the problems persists, then you have a hardware failure.  You'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and probable replacement.

  • All of my contacts randomly disappeared, how do i get them back?

I backed up my phone to icloud last night and now all of my contacts are gone, yet when someone calls or texts me, their name still pops up.

First just try rebooting your phone, I had the same problem with my iPad.

  • How can I stop my iPhone 3GS contacts from disappearing?

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
I woke up this morning and for no apparent reason all my contacts had dissapeared. I am a casual user of my phone at best and had not done anything out of the ordenary.
There are an overwelming number of posts about this issue and I cannot establish what I am supposed to do, to stop my contacts from dissapearing.

It very well could be if you were syncing some of your contacts with the account you removed. If you were, and you removed the account from the phone, then any synced data that belonged to that account would have been removed at that time.
Okay, and additionally I am accusing the mail client of removing even contacts that I had added manually via the phone keypad, or I am accusing it of owning those contacts when I did or prehaps at some point the mail client took ownership of all my contacts regardless.
