IPhone 4S Mail All Inboxes shows 4,294,967,289 unread mail messages

1. On my iPhone 4S in the Mail app, if I go into the Mailboxes and look at my Inboxes it shows 4,294,967,289 mail messages (see screen shot). This number is clearly incorrect, as I don't have any unread emails, and my accounts don't have anywhere near this number of emails. Of course my mail icon on the home screen doesn't show anything because the number is (incorrectly) too large.
2. On my iPad 2 in the Mail app (with the same iCloud and gmail accounts all synced up), if I go into the Mailboxes and look at my Inboxes it shows no unread mail messages, which is correct. If I get a new message, then it will show the number of unread messages accurately (1 or 2 or whatever).
Has anyone seen this problem? I deleted all my mail accounts in the iPhone and added them back again, but that did not correct the problem. I am up to date on all software as well.
Thanks for the help.

The number 4,294,967,290 corresponds to negative 6 in base 32.
It's a bug with the way gmail is reporting unread messages, or the way your iPhone is counting them. A restore should fix it.
Short of restoring your iPhone try this: Make sure you have read all your messages and the unread message count remains 4,294,967,290. Then, send six messages to your gmail account. Do not open them.
If that resets your "unread mail" count to zero then never open those six messages

  • My IPAD shows 182 mail in All Inboxes and in actuality there are no mail in any box.

My Ipad the Mail Ap shows 182 mail in red, when I open the Mail Ap, All Inboxes shows 182 mail but in actuality there are no mail, IPAD shows on all mail accounts NO MAIL but the number 182 is still showing, on my Ap and in every mail box.
The question is how can we delete the 182 number?
Thank you very much for the reply in advance

I don't use Mail, so I'm just using this to bump your msg up the line - hopefully someone who does can come to the rescue.
I do use Outlook, however, and I know that there is an option to download headers only - is there something like this in Mail?
Good luck - hopefully someone will respond (sometimes people just tend to skip over items with long message headers)...

  • I have accidentally deleted my inbox and now can only see unread mail on my iPhone.  How can I restore this?

I have accidentally deleted (or hidden) my inbox.  Now I can only see unread mail on my iphone.  I have switched it off and on again but this has not fixed the problem.  All help appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi ElizabethAnnT,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
With the Mail app open on your iPhone, notice which email account is showing in the top left corner of your screen.  Tap on that mailbox and you should be taken back to the main MAILBOXES window.  See the picture below:
If you tap the Edit button in the top right corner of your screen you will see a list including "All Inboxes" and "Unread."  Make sure there is a blue circle with a checkmark to the left of all of these.
For more information on using Mail, click on the link below:

  • How to restore all inbox data after obliged to create new mail account

After my Thunderbird account mysteriously disappeared I had to re-open another mail account. After difficulty I restored address book. But only about 30 percent of email inbox restored. How can I restore the rest, many of which were important to me.

'''Background info to help you understand your mail account:'''
As you saw in the Profile folder mail accounts, 'folders' you see in the Thunderbird FolderPane are actually Files; mbox files.
Emails are downloaded to your Inbox and stored one after the other in the order they were downloaded. So, the emails are not stored as individual files, they are written into a text file which can get bigger and bigger if you do not manage the Inbox.
Any emails you delete, from your point of view they disappear from Inbox and reappear in 'Deleted' folder (Also called Trash).
In reality, those deleted emails are 'marked as deleted' and are still in the Inbox, but hidden. This means that if you had accidentally deleted an email, it would be easy to quickly get it back.
However, the deleted emails are still taking up space, so to clean up the file and remove those 'marked as deleted' emails, you have to 'compact' the folder. If you do not compact your folders then you increase the possibilty of getting a corrupted file and losing emails.
Using folders to organise emails into groups keeps the file size smaller and makes it easier to locate emails. It is also less risky. Smaller files also use less memory to open.
    '''How to create Folders:'''
Select the mail account name in the Folder Pane. If you want to create them in 'Local Folders' account, select 'Local Folders'.
    * 'File' > 'New' > 'Folder'.
    * Give folder a name eg: Bills or Family or Friends etc
    * click on 'Create Folder' button.
you can create as many folders as you need.
'''How to move emails from one folder to another:'''
There are a couple of ways to this, so you could try out the methods and choose the one you find most comfortable.
Suggest you move one email first and then try to move a group.
    '''1. Using right click options.'''
    * Right click on highlighted/selected email in list
    * select: 'Move to' > mail account / Local Folder > select name of folder
    '''2. Using toolbar: '''
    * Select email in list so it is highlighted
    * 'Message' > 'Move to' > mail account > select: Folder'
    '''3. Drag and Drop method'''
    * Left click and keep down on hilighted email in list to grab
    * Move the mouse pointer to hover over the Folder you want; this is dragging the email,
    * Release the mouse to drop the email into that folder.
    '''How to highlight several emails:'''
All the above methods work if you select one email or a highlighted group.
'''To select a batch of email eg: 10 adjacent emails'''
    * click on first email
    * Press 'Shift' key and click on eg:10th email - all emails in between become highlighted.
'''To select various emails to put them as a group.'''
    * Hold down 'Ctrl' key and use mouse to select various emails.
'''To select all emails in folder:'''
    * click on first email in list
    * Hold down 'Ctrl' key and press 'A' - All emails will be highlighted.

  • Make iPhone default to "All Inboxes"

This is really very annoying.  After updating the OS on my phone it won't default to "All Inboxes".  It defaults to the mail account at the top of the list of accounts.  I've tried removing all the mailboxes but even then it doesn't default to the one I want anyway, doesn't matter the order I put them in at.
Apple please fix this, it's sooooooo flipping stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm at the latest release but this started happening somewhere aroung the 4.1 release.

    Allan,
Yes, you are correct in everything you said.   I should have been more detailed.  My apologies.
I want my mail app to open to this screen, which it used to.  I was referring to it by the incorrect name.  Not all inboxes but to all my mailboxes screen (see image).  Leaving the app open on this screen, moving to another app, and then returning to the mail app is fine.  However, when I close mail and relaunch, it will open to the inbox of the first account listed, which is Gmail.
I'd like to add, Allan, that you acutally made me away of a possible solution to this issue if no true fix isn't available.  I like this screen because I get to see how many messages are in which account and prioritize accordingly.  However, I could do as you suggested and keep my mail open to "all inboxes".  I see all my mail, but I can still decide which messages to prioritize without reading them.  It isn't THE solution I was looking for, but is  A solution until Apple fixes it.  Thanks!

  • When using iphoto to e-mail photos the resulting e-mail doesn't show up in sent folder of mail.

There seems to be a an incompatibility within iphoto when you share images from within Iphoto using Apple Mail. The e-mail seems to send fine but when you try to go back and look for it in the sent folder of mail, it isn't there....
Also, when the recipient of the e-mail with the photos replies to your e-mail, the resulting reply that you receive in Apple Mail is not viewable. It shows up in the list of e-mails, but can not be opened...
    Anyone else seeing these issues?

Nope - have not seen that complaint here are all
Just to verify - you are using Apple Mail?  It does not sound like it. You set it in the iPhoto preferences. If you are using the default iPhoto mail rather than Apple mail then there is no sent folder and people on PCs may have trouble viewing the photos
If you are using Apple mail try exporting a photo and attaching it and try doing one using the Mail media browser and see - as far as mail is concerned there is no difference between starting the mail from iPhoto and starting it from mail

  • Sent message from Mac Mail work email shows my personal gmail account as Mail to: and account summary shows outgoing mail server as smtp.google while incoming shows imap.google

sent email from work through Mac Mail shows to the sender Mail to: (personal gmail). Account summary shows smtp.google on outgoing server and imap.google on incoming

Is there a way to add this automatically?
For a semi-permanent change, the Sending Server is named as "OutGoing Mail Server SMTP" on the Preference pane for each Mail Account.
To change its specifics, move the mouse cursor over it and choose "Edit SMTP Server List" from the drop-down Menu. Then choose the SMTP Server you wish to inspect/change and its information will be shown. If using similar ones for two different email accounts, change the description field, e.g., change "gmail" to "gmail (work)".

  • Mail & Exchange Server - app icon says there's unread mail, but there isn't

    Hi folks,
I upgraded to Snow Leopard a while ago and dragged along my hosted Exchange account (myhostedsolution.com) which I used to access via my iPhone & Entourage. With 10.6 I naturally switched over to Mail.app.
Now sometimes I get this odd bug: The Mail.App icon in the docks says there's one unread message (indicated by a red circle and the number one in it) however there is no new email in any of my folders. I checked everything Spam, Trash...
    - I have no rules or smart folders set up
    - my iPhone correctly states that there's no new mail on that account
My life may not depend on it but it's just one huge annoyance..
    Help anyone?
    S.

I can corroborate this. Fully updated snow leopard, with an Exchange 2007 account. Office and home machines configured alike. After a day at work, receiving, reading, deleting mail, and leaving no unread messages in the inbox, the home machine shows unread messages next to the Exchange inbox, and on its dock icon, but there are no unread messages in the inbox. Quitting and relaunching mail causes it to show no unread messages.
As the previous poster noted, this is a real annoyance.

  • My iphone shows that I have 1 unread mail when I don't!

I have tried turning mail on and off, deleting the account and most other things suggested. Many thanks for any help! And I do not have any emails unread!! This has happened before and I can't remember how I fixed it!!

Turn your device off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your device and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a device in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

  • My family of four (2 iPhones, 2 iPods) all share the same iTunes account.  Many text messages sent to or from mine or my husband's phones are also received on my daughter's iPod, and vice versa. How do I fix this?

How can I keep text messages sent from my or husband's phone from being received on daughter's iPod, and vice versa? We have five devices on one iTunes account - 2 iPhones, 2 iPods and an iPad.

    Hello Hrd1977,
This is typically caused by both devices sharing an Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.  I would recommend signing out of iMessage on your daughter's device.  Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out. Then sign in with the desired Apple ID.

  • Why is Mail almost constantly showing that I have hundreds of Incoming Messages?

    Any ideas?
    Don

There have been a lot of people having this problem. I read in a link to a MacRumors article that supposedly Apple is aware that Mail v 7 has problems and is working on a fix.

  • E-mails from "Yesterday" showing up as "Today"

This is weird. Not sure if this is a recent issue or I just noticed it.
In my list of e-mails (All inboxes and the individual ones), the e-mails from yesterday have a date that says "Today". The e-mails from today correctly list the time they were received and the e-mails from before yesterday correctly list their date.
Anyone else noticing this problem or have any idea why it's happening?? I can't figure it out for the life of me, unless it's just a bug...
    Thanks!

Hm, problem solved. Restarted the iPhone a couple times and the dates are now showing accurately. Still a bit odd.

  • Is there an "Unread Mail" solution for the iPhone that would allow me to see all new Unread mail?  I have ove 100 subfolders with rules that redirect mail.

Is there an "Unread Mail" solution for the iPhone that would allow me to see all new Unread mail in one location?
I have an iPhone 4 (not 4S). I use the Outlook client with an Exchange Server on my Desk.
In order to keep email organized, I have many subfolders (over 100) under my Inbox with rules that automatically redirect the bulk of new unread email to the subfolders.
In the Outlook client on the desktop, there is an "Unread Mail" Folder that lets me see ll unread mail in one location whether it be in the main inbox or in one of the subfolders of the inbox.
I would like to see all unread email in one location without me having to change my rules and work flow that I have been using for 7+ years?
It is much more work for me (so far) to see new email on the iPhone.  You have to scan each subfolder in order to tell where the new mail is that just arrived.

  • Email sent on my iphone 5 does not show in the sent folder in mail on my macbook pro and vice versa especially since update to Yosemite

I have an iphone 5 and a Macbook pro. Since upgrading to Yosemite, when I send an email from my yahoo email account or another email account linked to my website, on my iphone, the emails don't show in the sent folder in mail on my macbook pro and vice versa.
I have deleted the accounts and re-created them on both my iphone and macbook pro but the samething keeps happening.
When last I was at the istore, they were unable to sort it out and said I needed to book it in.
Any suggestions that will prevent me from booking my macbook pro in are welcome.

    Hi,
Are you saying you are trying to synch iMessages across two iPhones ?
Or do you mean you are trying to get iMessage that were synced to one iPhone to show on another ?
Whilst the first is possible - from the date you add the second iPhone the second  is not possible.
