Iphone 5 has reception

I know this question has been asked numerous times but i have just "upgraded" to the iphone 5 from the 4s and my reception has been terrible. My wife also changed to the 5 from the 4s, same problem. My carrier sent a replacement iphone 5, same issues (all have bad batteries as well). I have yet to read a fix for this issue has anyone had any success improving reception?
Thank you

Hi my iPhone does not have reception. I have tried the sim in a different phone and it has reception. Any ideas what I can do

    try these things
-reset your network by going setting> general>reset>reset network setting
-toggle airplane mode on and off
-then back up your information and then restore as new.
-still no service then if your within your limited warranty apple can replace it for nothing if not it is 199$ for replacement

  • My IPhone 3G reception fixed, a new problem - AT&T *real* data speeds

I've read quite a few topics on this forum regarding the poor IPhone 3G reception, and unfortunately 99% of them are emotions, making it very laborious to distill useful info out of them.
Therefore I'd like to post my personal experience so far with IPhone 3g, listing more facts, than emotions. *I hope this will help some of you, and also hope that others will follow a more structured approach to reporting IPhone 3g problems*.
    *IPhone 3G Model MB046LL, 2.0.1 firmware*
I got my IPhone 3g black 16gb version in NJ on August 2nd, model MB046LL. I work in IT, and I was overall very impressed with all of its features. However, the device had 2 major problems - 3g reception was highly unstable, and the actual 3g data speeds were far lower than advertised, 200kb on average for download and 30kb on average for upload.
I called AT&T, they said I was in the zone with "the best 3g coverage". I went to an AT&T store, and had my SIM card swapped from #3022 to a newer one, #4022. Swapping the SIM card drastically improved both 3g reception and the data speeds.
Unfortunately, I noticed that my IPhone 3g was picking up not as many bars of 3g as other Iphone 3g sitting next to me. The actual dbm numbers for 3g were also smaller. I would continue having dropped calls. I also noticed that my battery would fully recharge very fast (within 1.3 hours), and would fully discharge much faster than it was advertised. The GPS was acting weird, and the voice quality would sometimes be horrible even with 5 bars of 3g. There were more anomalies with that phone, e.g. download speed of 20-30kb with 5 bars of 3g, among other things. I would diligently take screenshots of every anomaly I saw, and store them on the phone. Restoring the phone to its factory state did not help.
After some time, I concluded there was still something wrong my IPhone, scheduled a Genius Bar appointment, and had it replaced with a brand new IPhone 3g. Having numerous screenshots of different problems minimized the explanations to a minimum.
    *IPhone 3G Model MB048LL, 2.0.1 firmware*
I had a chance to compare the new model with the previous one I had - the build felt a bit different. The screen on this new model has a slightly better contrast, too (compared default factory settings).
*The new model, however, has GREAT 3g reception*. Where with the previous model I had 2-3 bars of 3g, I now have 5 bars. The dbm numbers are also somewhat improved. I had a couple of small issues with apps, etc., but I figured them out - found which apps were crashing the system, and deleted them, cleaned up the old backups and the crash diagnostic crash reports from the previous model, etc. Finally all other problems I was having with the previous model are now gone, too, except the quirkiness of the GPS, but I suspect it's the new firmware, and not much I can do about it. I have yet to see a dropped call on this new model.
However this new model identified a new problem, something that I'd suspected for some time: it appears that the problems people are having could indeed be the combination of IPhone hardware/software and AT&T network.
I noticed the data speeds vary significantly throughout the day, even when you sit at the same desk. I noticed the speed drops significantly approximately during lunch time to ~90-300kb for download, would be ok during the day (~200-350kb for download), and would be AWESOME after 10pm - ~0.9 - 1.4Mbs.
One can make a conclusion here that AT&T simply does not have enough network capacity to handle the peak data load, when many people connect on the network. It could be that IPhone's software does not manage very well under such conditions, but I'd would place more blame on AT&T in this case, considering how exceptionally well IPhone performs during other times.
I'd like to point out that although both Apple and AT&T reps were genuinely trying to be helpful, I could clearly see that not one person I talked to on both sides did not have a clear solution how to resolve the problems I was having. Basically, I had to figure out what the problem could be, and use the resources available to try to solve it - be that replacing the phone, restoring from backups, monitoring the crash logs for problematic apps, etc.

I would constructively suggest that you edit your post pretty quickly if you want to avoid a highly deserved, verbal battering from every unemotional, highly rational and intelligent poster on this forum who might take offence to your demeaning attitude. I think to assume that because people who have posted on here have posted at all because they are emotional basket-cases, or in some way out of control of their emotions merely because they have aired their disappointment/disgust/anger with their sub-functioning iPhones is pretty insulting and undeserved. Whatever YOU have written here, or have experienced elsewhere, still only has the value of 1 (ONE). It is a poll of 1. It is an opinion of 1. No more valid than that, no more authority than that.

  • "An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer" error on sync

I recently resurrected an old original iPhone to use as an iPod touch (no phone contract) and started syncing it to my home Mac Mini, which is where I sync nearly all of my iPhone 3G data from. I can't honestly say which was the last iPhone to successfully sync, but I just docked my iPhone 3G for the first time in a few weeks and got an error, "An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer". It's only allowing me to either set it up as a new phone, or to restore from either my 2G or 3G iPhone backup.
I don't want to restore; I've added a load of apps, notes, photos, etc since the last archive on that Mac Mini.
NOTE: This home Mac Mini syncs all the iPod content to my 3G. My MacBook Pro syncs the Pictures to the 3G. And all calendar/contact data is synced OTA (over the air).
(I have been regularly syncing/backing up to my MacBook Pro while I've been on the road. So I do have a valid archive on that system.)
I don't understand why I'm getting this error. It's almost as if I can't sync multiple iPhones to the same computer, but AFAIK that's not correct.
I suppose I could move an archive from the MBP over to the Mini and restore from a valid archive, but that seems obtuse.
What would cause this error? I can't update my music/tv/podcasts on here until I get this sorted out… bugger!
    thanks

Thank you for your response will2b but I am looking for a solution for the problem that I cannot sync the same phone with the same computer I have been for a couple of months now. It shouldn't matter that I did not sync my phone for a couple of weeks. I should still be able to sync the same phone to the same computer. This is obviously some kind of software glitch and I am looking for a solution.
    some advice from blacksheepia:
I had been having issues with having good reception in a suburb within close proximity to Los Angeles. Called ATT and they were able to synchronize my phone while I am at home to a closer cell site and that has improved things a great deal. Also I was told that you should turn the phone off at a minimum of once a week and if possible more times to reset it and give it time to rest and cool off. The other thing I have discovered may be the actual way that the phone is constructed. Today I was using it at home in the same room and noticed the bars go down and come up when I changed how I held it. I thought their was no possible way that it could be that simple, but after changing the way I held it 5 times alternating from gripping my whole hand around the back with my palm and just finger gripping from the sides and making sure I was not blocking the back of the phone, well as much as possible, the results were that I had 4 to 5 bars of reception. Now this may seem crazy, but there is a possibility that this could be the cause of bad reception if the antenna is in the back shell of the phone and by blocking it with your palm you could interfere with the reception. Crazy I know, but I have heard of much crazier things with new phones and technology.

  • An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer

When I start iTunes and select my iPhone device, I get the message: "An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer". It's the same phone that I have used on the same computer since I bought it. ITunes is giving me two options, neither of which is acceptable. One is to erase the whole thing and set up the phone as new and the other is to restore the phone from a backup. I don't want to lose all of the data I have acquired since the last backup. Please help. Using Mac Book Air iTunes 10.6.3.

  • IPhone 3G reception versus iPhone 1G reception

I just purchased the new iPhone and got rid of my 1G iPhone. My experience so far is that the signal I'm getting is weaker. For example, at my desk at work, I get practically no signal from the 3G, where I got a great signal from the 1G. Also, when driving, I have far more dropped calls and the service seems to disappear temporarily more frequently. Is this a problem with my specific phone? Do I need to take it in to the Apple Store. Help anyone? Thanks!

A: iPhone 3G reception versus iPhone 1G reception

Ah, this is where the finger-pointing begins between AT&T and APPLE I'd say.
While I never owned the 1G as you refer to it, I do own the 3G for 3-days and have noticed 3-4 dropped calls in my local area, whereas I never had the issue while on Verizon for 5-yrs now. So while that doesn't answer your question... I would assume APPLE will tell you nothing has technically changed internally between the 1G and 3G other than the 3G having a plastic back cover... therefore, the reception from either phone should be the same and that it is an AT&T issue. On the flip side, AT&T will say that nothing has changed with their 3G technology (ask in person so you can watch them evolve into Pinochio); therefore, if there were no reported problems with the 1G, then it has to be something about APPLES "3G iPhone's" technology and not AT&T's 3G network. While both have some merit in their argument... we do know that the 3G network may not work as well in buildings, etc. and that it's "available" bandwidth with the significance of more 3G iPhones being in use has to cause a drain on it.. which is why they are having to add more 3G towers... remember IT 101? The analogy of bandwidth with a highway? So, if in 2000 you had a four-lane highway capable of handling "x" amount of traffic during rush hour with no issues and in 2008 that same highway is now experiencing 10-fold in additional traffic volume... guess what? So as APPLE was caught by surprise by the increase in volume demand and sales of the new 3G, so was AT&T in being able to ramp their systems and servers to accommodate the increased traffic. There are system performance tools out there that proactively manage the performance of heterogeneous and multi-vendor networks, thereby, pinpointing areas of potential and actual performance degradation before they happen, generating reports in advance in id'g problematic areas of concern prior to systems failing. These systems also provide flexible and scalable thresholds to accommodate s... [Show more]

Is there any way to get a log of the bluetooth devices my Iphone has been connected to?  I recenly had my Bluetooth Jabra stolen from my car and now a simliar one is on Craigslist.  I'd like to give my connection log to the police before I go and see if my Iphone recognizes the device in question.  Any way to get any type of bluetooth device connection log out of my iphone?

Your contacts should still be on whatever program you sync your iphone to (i.e. Outlook, address book).
The iphone is not a stand alone device. It is designed to be synced with a computer. If you have not been syncing with a compatible program, then you are out of luck. Your contacts are not included in the back-up because it is meant to be synced with your computer.

  • "An iPhone has previously been synced with this computer ..."

    Hi
I synced my iPhone 3GS on my PC (running Vista) yesterday, and it dropped a couple of error messages (-46 being one). No problems, I thought, I'll try again. Still failed. Unplugged everything, try again - now says "An iPhone has previously been synced with this computer, set up as new iPhone or Restore from backup".
This is a huge problem - my PC and IPhone combo don't like each other, and the last time I tried to upgrade the firmware it failed and forced me to restore which also failed. The only way I could get my iPhone back was to use another PC which was running XP. Consequently there is no way I am restoring my phone off my main PC (as it won't work), and I don't want to set up as new phone, as I'll presumably lose all my data (messages, notes, voice memos, etc). I plan to back up the phone on my laptop, just in case, and I've made copies of the backups on my main PC, but any ideas how I can make my PC realise that it actually already knows my phone?
We do have two iphones which we sync on this PC, and it's never played up like this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    ---

Hi Allan, thanks for your reply! Thanks also for the link.
I did look to do what you suggested, but unfortunately the only option it gives me now on right-click is "eject" (both on PC, which is what I sync with and also my laptop, which has met this phone once before). My phone seems to be telling the computers that it's a virgin new phone, rather than one I've been using for several months.
I'm just hoping that the last backup on iTunes for my phone is complete - ie not corrupted during the last sync that appears to have corrupted my phone. At some point I will have to bite the bullet and let it restore from backup. Can I copy the backup files from my PC to my laptop ?
    Cheers,
    Bernie

  • My iphone has failed and I need to access my contacts.

My iPhone has failed (again) and I need to access my contacts.  I backup/sync to ITunes regularly, but I can't find any means to access the data that I have backed up.
      Any thoughts?
    B.

The iphone is designed to be synced woth your computer regularly.  Your contacts should reside on your computer.  The iphone simply allows them to be portable.
Your contacts will be in whatever program you have been syncing.
The backup is only for restoring an iphone.  Contacts are backed up to keep the recents and favorites when you restore your iphone.

My iphone has lost connection to the server; I cannot get e-mails. What can I do to fix that?

I recently put on a PowerPoint presentation at DU, in Denver Colorado; signed on as DU guest to access Internet link.  SInce then I haven't been able to get e-mail on my Iphone - Cannot Get Mail, Server Stopped Responding.  I tried all previous suggestions, such as rebooting phone, updating software etc.  I went to MacBook Pro and tried logging on to yahoo e-mail.  Apparently there was a security risk to my e-mail account so Yahoo locked up my account.  I reset my password, it was verified through text message, and Voila it worked.  Don't forget you also have to change this on your Iphone: go into settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; click on your e-mail browser, then account and enter your new password, click done and it will verify on you phone as well.  Hope this helps!!!

Restore the missing contacts file on your PC from your PC backup.
Or, it you've backed up your iphone to icloud or itunes, you can try performing a restore of the iphone.

Restored it from a backup and now there's no music on it. In the music tab it iTunes says: Thomas iPhone has access to music on iCloud. Songs can be fetched via WIFI or a mobile network. The pnly thing I can chose to sync are voice memos.
    What can I do?

If you want all the songs from an artist on your phone you can to to the artist view, tap on the artist, scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see a Download All button.  This works for playlists and albums too (scroll to the bottom and tap the Download All button).  I suppose if you wanted all your music on your phone you could create a smart playlist in iTunes on your computer that would contain all your music, upload it to iTunes match (Store>Update iTunes Match), and then you would get a Download All button at the bottom of this playlist on your phone to download all your songs.

I tired copying all the .dll files to the itunes folder didn't help

I cannot address the sync services error right now, but the error that you receive when you change from sync to manually manage music is what happens when you change. Once you change to manually manage music, it erases all of the music and will only put the music that you want on the phone, content that you manually drag over to it.
