Iphone 5 refurbished, will I be forced to update IOS?

My iPhone 5 has IOS 6.1.2 installed on it and the power button has stopped working. It is being replaced under warranty. When I set the replacement phone up from the restore from my original phone will I be able to install the same IOS (6.1.2) or will I be forced into IOS 7?

well, you point out a common complaint-in which i totally agree. i dont really have an answer insomuch as you point out the "solution" /dilemma. i hate this about Apple and their updates. i was fine with current ios for ipad. the new 7 is a battery hog and somewhat memeory hog too. ihad had a few crashes already and some apps are unstable as it's so new. and it's odd to me that it takes longer to recharge the battery. there's other things like apps that seemingly open and close quickly… for some reason this is by design. and it's actually causing motion sickness in some ppl.
and god forbid u can easily change font size in a safari email!
guess this is what keeps IT ppl with a job…
my advice today is do NOT upgrade IF u can stand it.

I wanted to update my iPhone 3GS to the new IOS 5 software. I was successfully able downloaded the software to my pc. However, when I began to update my iPhone, the back up process was interrupted after a few minutes. With my iPad 2, I wanted to wait at least for the next update before installing iOS 7, hearing about the problems people are having with older iPads, concerned especially about it running slow and slow charging time.
So I'm still running iOS 6, but now something weird is happening with app updates - even when I update via iTunes, it tells me that some apps won't be synced because they're for iOS 7. And I keep getting loads of app updates showing up in my App Store app that just disappear, and sometimes they show up to be updated repeatedly, so I'm not sure what is going on.
Will it soon get to the point where apps won't work on iOS 6 and it will become necessary to install iOS 7? Do we have a choice or not really? My iPad 2 runs fine now, and I don't see any reason to spend money on a new one if I don't have to, just to get proper performance.

IPhone 4s not recognized by windows 8 after updating iOS and stuck on "connect to itunes" screen

I tried updating the iOS on my iPhone4s and now it is stuck on the connect to itunes screen. It also doesn't show up in the devices folder of my computer (windows8.1) but makes the notification sound when connected to a usb port. It also isn't recognized by itunes, but that's probably because the computer doesn't connect to it either.
I've tried reinstalling iTunes multiple times, updating the driver for the usb port, and pressing the sleep/home buttons as i connect it but nothing has worked and I'm still stuck on the connect to itunes screen.
Also, every now and then, the iphone screen blacks out and the disconnected from computer sound plays, then a second later connects again

Iphone 3gs "no sim card installed" issue after updating iOS

I have an iPhone 3Gs. Last week I started updating the iOS of the phone then, I was brought to the page wherein I need to activate the phone. After going through some tabs to tap, the screen says " iphone cannot be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable, try to connect to iTunes. So I followed what is instructed. I connected the phone to iTunes but the message says, There is no sim card installed on your iphone. Before I updated the phone, the sim card was not inside the phone, so I inserted it back after the message "no sim card installed, try to disconnect and insert your sim card". But still nothing happened, the message keeps appearing. Also, I can see a "No service" message on the upper Ieft part of the phone. Is the sim card not inside the phone before updating the iOS the main reason why the phone cannot recognize the sim card? first time iphone user here, my aunt gave me this iphone. I really need help. Thank you so much

Ask your aun if the phone was hacked/jailbroken. Those problems are symtomatic of a hacked phone.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I have a IPhone 4 and just after the update 7.1.2 of IOS , I had an error "No Sim Card".

I'm hoping they figure out a fix for this soon, it's too much to just be a coincidence in my opinion. I hadnt bothered with the update until last week I figured why not update, it'll get rid of the irritating notification badge I had for so long. Sure enough that evening I had my first of probably 2-3 dozen SIM card failures in a week or so. Doing a hard restart will usually temporarily fix the issue but I'm sure I'm not the only person who realizes that this kind of bug could cause serious risks. For anyone trusting a reliable network connection in a life or death situation this is actually a very big problem. I never know when or where my phone will fail on me next. It's about a year and a half old and I haven't had a single issue with network until hours after this latest update. I will be doing my research from now on before updating. This post is more so for someone within Apple, and to support the legitimacy of the others, you should really take these network failure concerns seriously.

Correct. This is only a feature of ios 5 and higher.
If you have the latest itunes version, then you should simply open itunes and connect your iphone. It will liekly prompt you to update.

No. You can only install the current version for your device. Perform the update using iTunes on your computer instead of trying to download it over the air directly to the phone. If updating via iTunes, the free space requirement does not apply.

Hi, Anyone who has this problem: This is now resolved on my phone simply by the prudent timing of the phone software update to 7.1. This update cleared the corrupt map and loaded the original - all my cares went away !! It looks like a Restore would probably work as well, on this basis.

I know why, cause Apple signed contracts with each carrier so the carrier could increase their sales making customers sign 2 year contracts, I get it, I own my own business, but the delay of releasing factory unlocked ones is just not right and I should be able to buy one without having to buy it over in the UK where it is unlocked when it comes out right away, I should be able to buy it in my own country! These business practices we practice in the US need to stop, their is a demand that needs to be met with consumers like myself who don't need subsidized iPhone's with 2 year contracts with carriers and don't mine paying full price for an unlocked one, it is unethical in a sense, forcing the customer to buy it with a carrier contract and NOT giving the customer the option to buy it full price and own it themselves, OR, making the consumer wait a month for that option to be available. I understand your frustration, but when any form of rationing is required you have to prioritise. The number of unlocked vs packaged phones will be quite small and the number of unlocked buyers wishing to upgrade immediately will be smaller still. Against this you have the corporations sharing $billions between them.
It would, you're correct, have been fairer to release all at the same time, but fairer doesn't come into it: it's business.

- Did you purchase the device from Apple or an authorized reseller? If not, then you were scammed.
- It means you bought a gray market phone that was replaced, reported lost, or reported stolen, then re-sold illegally. It has no warranty and Apple will not service it with an out of warranty replacement.
- If your phone was replaced, it was most likely refurbished.
- You cannot tell the difference between a refurbished phone and a new one.
- check your serial number if its starts with 5K then its refurbished model
Not true. All it does is identify it as 'service stock'. It may be refurbised, or it may be new. There is no way for you, or even someone at an Apple Store, to tell the difference.
6 - You bought a phone that was stolen, lost, or taken in for repair and then re-sold illegally. get your money back if you can.
If there is ever a hardware problem that requires service, you will most likely not be able to get it serviced or replaced by Apple.
7- During the refurbishment process the devices are assigned a new serial number.
8- This means that your iPhone was replaced by Apple and you entered the serial number for your old iPhone which was replaced.
9- That means that particular phone has been replaced under warranty. Where did you get the phone from? If it was used, the previous owner may have had it replaced and not returned it to Apple as they were supposed to and sold it.
10- Interpreting what you postd, it would seem you had the device replaced at some earlier stage. Apple doesn't repair but instead replaces the whole unit with a refurbished unit which has its own serial number. Whatever the case, you will have to see Apple about the matter.

Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.
When you sync to another it will delete the current content.
Make sure you have copied everything from your old computer to your new one first.
