IPhone 6 External Mic not working for Siri/Dictation

I am finding that the external mic on my iPhone 6 works for phone calls and voice memos, but does not work for Siri/Dictation. When I plug in the earbuds, they work for everything (including Siri/Dictation).
Was chatting to Apple support who had me reset all settings. I thought that worked, but realized that after a reset, Siri is off and I was talking to "Voice control" (which works). When I turned Siri back on, it does not work.
I have two questions for the community to see if you can help:
1- I have been assuming this must be a software problem since the mic does work for non-Siri access. But is that true? Is there a hardware component that Siri depends on which could be faulty here?
2- If it is software, what action should I try to address it? I have done a reset all settings already and that did not help.

I talked to Apple Genius at Apple Store last week, she said it should be a software issue and I needed to reset my iphone 6 plus as a new device and I can not use the backup restore from my iCloud, it was because the microphone bug or glitch can be in the backup also. Ok, followed her advice, erased all contents and set my iphone as a new device , the microphone worked for an hour, but went bad again. I used "voice memo" app from Apple to test the microphone. It is the best tool since it doesn't involve any provider's network and it doesn't need another person's phone to listen and test. If you can hear your voice recording clearly, then the mic works. I tested it 3-4 times a day for a few days now, half of the time the mic doesn't work. So, set as a new device isn't working. The issue is intermittent and it comes and goes as it likes, so very annoying. I carry my Apple EarPods with me in these past few days ust in case I need to make important phone calls. Will need to go back to Apple Genius this weekend for sure. Will give update after the weekend.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

HP Pavilion DV6 external mic not working

hi, i have a hp pavilion dv6 and my external microphone is not working.
my laptop can detect it but it doesnt work. i tried all the ports and none of them work so i dont know what to do.

Iphone 3g mail not working for me - any help appreciated

I have both, POP and gmail accounts set up on the iphone. On my desktop, I have mail set to leave a copy of the messages on the server for one week.

on the iphone - the mail accounts work, but are not receiving the messages to the phone. All mail option is set to PUSH. Can anyone help me troubleshoot why I'm not receiving, but getting on the desktop? My first generation iphone worked beautifully, this one not so much : (

Featured tab in iPhone App Store not working for me?

When I open up the App Store on my iPhone 4 (current software is 5.1), and click on Featured, it takes me directly to the New Year, New You list of Apps and lists the categories of Your Body, Your Mind, Your Money and Your Time. There is no way to get back to the traditional page that lists what Apps are being featured. I've tried killing the app in multitasking, doing a soft reset (holding the Power and Home button), resetting all settings and restoring my iPhone. Nothing's worked and I'm at a loss...my iPad 2 App store works fine so I konw it's isolated to my iPhone for some reason. Any suggestions?

I dont know if there is a differance if you have Genius on or off when the error occur. But i tried the Genius fix twice. The first time I hadn't killed the app store from the running apps menu (double clicking the home button), that time I ended up on the info page when I reactivated Genius. The second time I killed the app before turning off Genius from the settings, that time it fixed it for me. But as I said, I had Genius on from the start, so it might not help you.. but you should try it if you havn't allready.

Most of the time when i call someone or someone calls me they cannot hear me.
I can hear them but they cannot hear me.
They can hear me and I can hear me when I use the earphone.
I checked the mute button turning it off and on, no difference, also reset the phone several time.
I checked on Internet for possible ways to repair the issue but the problem remains.

Try following along with this Apple doc -> iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions.   If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage.   If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check    if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See   "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears,   continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on,   reset   it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.

External mic not working at all??

hi all i just bought a mic from radio shack to mess around with on my mac and it has a 1/4 phone plug which i converter to a 1/8 with a adapter and i plugged it into my audio inline plug in the back and i have no sound doesnt even move a bar with garageband...do i Have to use USB if so what is the point of the plug in the back thanks??

Built in Mic not working on Imac Windows 7 boot camp

I've been doing research and a lot of people seem to have problems with macbook pros mics not working for vista or XP. My current problem is on an Imac running Windows 7 32bit boot camp. The built in mic REFUSES to work be recognized or show any signs of picking up sounds. It won't work in Sound Recorder, Ventrillo or any program. Any help is appreciated if you need any more info let me know. Yes my mac is fully updated with both windows updates and mac updates.

Internal mic not working after updating to 10.10.1

After updating to 10.10.1 (from 10.10) on my MacBook pro 2010 (15” screen) the internal mic is not working when using FaceTime (or Skype) and so the person on the other end of the video/audio call is unable to hear me. On my end there is a static/crackly sound during FaceTime (or Skype) connecting since the update which I believe is related to the mic problem (no sound input on Mac during FaceTime/Skype).

Make sure FaceTime App is not running
Open Terminal
type sudo killall coreaudiod
Press Return
Enter your computer's admin PW

I had the same problem and after a lot of research here and on Verizon I finally discovered that it was an app named Onavo Extend that was preventing my voicemail from working. Other people have had success resetting their phone or network settings, disabling and reenabling SIRI, or deleting the Neilsen app (which I didn't have) but those options didn't work for me. A lot of mods have claimed that this is not an Apple problem but if it is caused by an app that Apple allows to be sold in their app store, then it is an Apple problem, not a carrier problem. Of course, sometimes its just an ID 10 T problem.

IPhone 2G voice mic not working

Has anyone come across iPhone 2G voice mic not working (not being heard by the other person) but works fine on speaker phone and bluetooth headset. It has been working fine so far and suddenly developed this problem! Any help is highly appreciated….

I had that problem with my iPhone 3G after about 5 days.
I just had Apple take a look at it.
They cleaned it out, called it and stuff.
Didn't work.
Since I didn't drop it in water and it was not my fault in any way, they gave me a brand new one.
