IPhone 6 on Prepaid Plan

Back in September, Verizon took the stance that they would NOT allow an unlocked iPhone 6 to be used on prepaid plans.
Is this still the case?

I just did it and it worked fine. Here is what you need to do.
STEP 1
Buy a VERIZON iPhone 6 from an Apple store. Tell them you want to buy it outright and they won't ask questions or force a contract. Do NOT buy the unlocked iPhone, as that will only work with ATT/TMobile I believe. Also the unlocked iPhone does not come with a verizon SIM card, which you might want. The Verizon phone DOES have the sim card.
STEP 2
Activate the phone online using My Verizon. Enter the IMEI and the ICCID (SIM card number).
STEP 3
Turn off the phone, wait about 5 minutes, and then turn it back on. It will activate.
NOTES:
If you try to buy a full priced iPhone 6 from a Verizon store for a prepaid account, they won't sell it to you. They will say it won't work. They have a policy to only sell the iPhone 6 for a postpaid account. I can tell you that it does work though, because I literally just did it.
If you look at "compatibility" for the Verizon 4G LTE Prepaid SIM Card online, both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are listed as compatible.
If you are switching from a 3G device to LTE, YOUR CURRENT MONTH WILL BE CANCELLED AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR A NEW MONTH. The Prepaid 3G service is NOT the same as the Prepaid 4G service. It says this nowhere on the website, so if you just signed up for a month they might help you if you call and explain that the website does not warn users of this. (The website doesn't even distinguish between 3G and 4G smartphone plans at all.) If you don't want to be charged for the new month, switch it at the end of your month.
If you have trouble activating it, try activating an officially supported 4G phone and moving the SIM card to the iPhone.
Apple has a 14 day no-questions-asked return policy. If it doesn't work within 14 days, return it and try again.

  • IPhone on Prepaid plan pointless account balance messages

We've been discussing this issue on the ATT forums, but I feel that the only way to get it addressed it by Apple.
Currently if you are on the prepaid plan you receive account balance notices after every transaction (Phone call, Mail Check, Web Browsing).
Since the iPhone has an unlimited data plan you account balance doesn't change any time you access the edge network. Unfortunately ATT still sends you a message notifying you your account balance has not changed.
At first this isn't a big issue. Dismiss the message (Which you have to do before you can access ANYTHING on your phone) and continue on. The problem is if you have your phone checking for email (which is one of the point of having a phone like the iPhone), you'll receive a message every time your phone hits the network.
These messages can pile up and this morning I had to clear 15+ messages before I could use my phone. Talk about a terrible user experience.
Also if a balance message is present while a call comes in the screen doesn't respond. You first have to lock the phone by hitting the sleep/wake button, then unlock it again hitting the same button. It took me a while to figure out what was going on with that situation.
At the bottom of the page there is a link to the ATT support thread.
Please don't reply with ... We'll just get a contract and the messages will stop. I don't want to be on a contract plan. I enjoy the prepaid plan. It works for me.
So here is what I am looking for.
    1) Can the messages be stopped on the iPhone side
    2) If not, could Apple add a "Dismiss All" option. That would (for me at least) be an acceptable solution.
    3) Why do the messages lock the screen when there is an incoming call?
Thanks for all your help. At the least I am hoping this will make Apple aware of the problems and get them addressed

There are a few points which I think need to be aired on this issue: that pre-paid is a perfectly viable option for the iPhone, that AT&T will do nothing to solve this issue, and that Apple, alone, can and should.
If pre-paid is an option both AT&T and, for less understandable reasons, Apple want to discourage, then may God help all of us pre-paid consumers. However, Apple should be interested in selling iPhones, and the deal to receive money from AT&T from subscribers is a problem, because is lessens Apple's motivation to tolerate iPhones being used as pre-paid phones, unlocked, you name it.
That said, pre-paid is a great option for those who use very few minutes (like me), who may be well-to-do foreigners only staying in America for a limited time, or who are uncertain if AT&T is a viable carrier. Tolerating it also projects a sense of respect for the consumer that Apple's target market would appreciate. I know I do.
AT&T, though, receives less of a commitment from consumers on pre-paid, and thereby less expected money, so they will do everything to fight it.
Apple, however, can easily modify their software to politely receive these notifications from AT&T, and then only inform the user if they choose to be so informed of the account balance in the iPhone's settings, or, even better, go into a spread-sheet like "Balance history" tab to explicitly view this information.
This is what Apple can do. It may take them a couple of man-hours to roll this into the next iPhone software update, but Apple: consider this worth it in light of being able to portray yourself as being on the consumer's side in the consumer-carrier tug-of-war that this, on however small a scale, has become.

  • IPhone 3G on the prepaid plan

Supportive of Apple products as I am, I have brought yet another one home - iPhone 4. I intended to still use my well kept 3G occasionally, and thought a prepaid plan would be a way to go. However, I have just heard back from ATT, and they told me that they don't permit iPhones on prepaid plans?!
Is that not wasteful??? Anybody aware of a way to still use my 3G beauty as a phone?

but some folx told me one must use the phone purchased with the prepaid ATT plan for 6 months before being able to stick the card into the iPhone
And who were these "some folks"? When you got your iphone 4 & activated it, AT&T de-activated the sim in your 3G. Pop it out & pop a pre-paid sim in, you should have no trouble activating the voice part of the sim. You won't be able to activate the data part.

  • HT1937 Can i use my unlocked Sprint iphone 4s on AT&T's $25 prepaid plan?

Can my unlocked Sprint iPhone 4s be used on AT&T's $25 prepaid plan? I recently opted out of my two year contract. When I plugged in the AT&T gophone mini sim to activate it, it says "sim not valid" and says only compatible sim cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate the phone. Please help!

So I can't use my iphone 4s for any prepaid service? Could I use it for Verizon prepaid? I really just want to keep my iphone 4s and not have the big monthly bill.
The only way to use a Sprint CDMA phone with Verizon's CDMA network would be to entice Verizon to reflash the firmware on you phone.  And they will not do that, for anyone with any phone - you must purchase a Verizon phone to use the Verizon network.
You cannot use your CDMA Sprint phone with AT&T because AT&T does not operate a CDMA network.  They use GSM, which is a different network than CDMA.

I'm wondering if there is any way I can switch carriers maybe to us cellular seeing that they recently added new prepaid plans and have good service in my area.  I do know boost operates with sprint but  not sure what I can do because having an expensive phone with crappy service really *****

Sorry, but Boost reportedly does not offer unlocking for iPhones, so you're stuck with them unless you can return the iPhone for a refund and cancel the service, or can sell the iPhone to someone who could use it with Boost.

  • [Very Urgent] Prepaid plan on iphone - will apps, web, data work normally?

Hi, I am keen on getting a prepaid plan.
I am very frustrated with ATT and T-Mobile because they need me to unlock my iphone in order to use web and data access. If I don't, I can only use calls and text on the iphone. If I get an iphone 5, get it unlocked and place a prepaid SIM card into it, will all the apps work normally? Can I buy the ATT prepaid plan? If not, which carrier should I get?
Please reply soon as I need to get a new line within a day or two. Thank you so much!

Hi Meg, thank you so much! I saw on the Virgin Mobile website that they have a $35 unlimited monthly plan. They also have a cheaper $20 plan. They look quite interesting.
Is there anything I should watch out for with regards to Virgin Mobile?

  • HT1937 I used to have verizon as my phone carrier. But I don't no more. It's been more 5 months that I don't. I want to start using my iPhone 4 with a prepaid plan. Is that possible. Verizon said I'm not longer listed as their customer.

Verizon offers prepaid service on the iPhone 4. Go into your local Verizon Store with your phone. I'm sure they'll be happy to set you up with service.

  • Can I activate my existing iPhone 5s to a prepaid plan?

I have been trying to get ahold of someone but have not been able to find the answer to my question. On the prepaid plan page it gives an option to buy an iPhone 5s and activate it on a prepaid plan, but cannot seem to activate my existing iPhone 5s to my prepaid plan. Why is it that it seems like I have to buy a phone from Verizon in order to use this plan? I currently have an iPhone 4s on prepaid plan and want to change device due to the fact that my 4 is water damaged and barely works. HELP?

Great question, daisycee! New phones are really exciting, and I can understand your eagerness to get this phone activated. Please reach out to our Prepaid Customer Service team for help getting the device switched. You can reach them at 888-294-6804.

I have an iphone 4s unlocked with att prepaid plan (non-contract), everything was working perfect BUT since i update to IOS6 i can not send MMS to anybody has Android, i went to att technical center they said only apple store can fix the problem, i went to Apple store MANY times they could not fix it, so they gave me a new iphone 4s and they said they fixed it but they did not,iam so mad that's not fair, can somebody help me please.

The nice thing about owning this overpriced POS is that Apple not only doesn't support it, but also doesn't want to hear about anything negative regarding it.  So I spoke to the so-called "support" people at Apple who successfully screwed up my contacts beyond repair.  I got a nice email from Apple asking me to rate the support I got.  I was actually civil and described the issue tactfully.  What do I get in return?  Nothing.  Not a damned thing!!  You're luck you've got me by the short hairs on a 2 year contract but I'm still tempted to throw this POS through the front window of the nearest Apple store!!  Not only will I be replacing this phone with a competitive product but I won't be buying anymore Apple crap.  I guess when you con 27 million people into believing your rhetoric and sales lies, you don't have to care whether some customers get screwed or not.  I'll be going back to Verizon and threatening legal action if they don't take this electronic dung heap back but I'm sure the teams of lawyers Apple and Verizon have on staff have insured that I have no rights in this matter and you're free to screw me anytime you please.  Sad. I used to love Apple as a company and your products.  Now you're just another Microsoft with more trendy looking junk.  I've had it with you.  If any of your executives are brave enough to talk to me, please contact me at your convenience.

  • Hi there. I am a Canadian who will be moving to California in July. I plan to bring my unlocked iPhone 4S. Could anyone recommend any prepaid plans available in the US? I do not want to sign up for any contracts. Prepaid monthly plans is the one i'd like.

    Okay,
So it is just AT&T and T-mobile then.
What is the difference between month to month and prepaid? I thought they are the same thing.
For Tmobile with limited iPhone features, will this mean cheaper cost VS. AT&T then?
    Thank you

  • How can I deactivate an iPhone 5 and then activate it on a current prepaid plan?

My son left his iPhone 5 when he moved saying he didn't want it. (teen temper tantrum)  After 6 mos we might as well get some use out of it since we paid for it.  How can I deactivate it (it has been restored to factory default) and then activate it on my current prepaid plan with my number?
I have no passwords/icloud/apple id information and won't likely get it from him.  Is there another option?  Thanks

missgen, as a mother of a 16 year old, I know all about temper tantrums. Let's not let that device go to waiste. You can hard reset that device by connecting it to a computer with iTunes downloaded to it. Once you connect the device, it will open iTunes. You will be provided with the option to "Use Recovery Mode." For your convenience, I've provided a very helpful link with the steps to reset that phone's password: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
Once the password has been reset, you can master that reset that device in Settings>General>Reset>"Erase All Content & Settings"
I trust that these steps are helpful to you. Keep us posted. We're standing by to further assist you if needed.

  • Help with buying contract-free iPhone 5S with T-MOBILE $30.00 prepaid plan

Ok, I just want to clarfiy
    If I purchase a T-MOBILE contract-free iPhone 5S from Apple here http://store.apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone5s
will I be able to get the T-MOBILE plan listed here with the Nano sim I receive from my iPHONE 5S from Apple http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans
"$30 per month—Unlimited web and text with 100 minutes talk
100 minutes talk | Unlimited text | First 5 GB at up to 4G speeds
This plan is only available for devices purchased from
Wal-Mart or devices activated on T-Mobile.com"
or will I have to get a nano sim here http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/sim-card#close-cart
and then activate online on tmobile.com to get the prepaid plan for $30.00?

No, the SIM card included with the T-Mobile phone on the Apple site does not allow you to activate for the $30 prepaid, as there is no "activation code" provided with the phone and you need a code for prepaid activation on the T-Mobile site. As you know T-Mobile store will not help you with this plan.
I just did this. (1)  I went on Apple store site and purchased an iPhone 5c selecting the T-Mobile "unlocked and contract-free SIM-Free" option.
    (2) You also need to go on T-Mobile and buy the (so called) "activation kit"  http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/sim-card ; select the "Nano Sim Card"  "Phone" then "Add to cart". This is currently free, so I got 2, in case. It took about 3 business days to receive the package via UPS.
The package has instructions, but does not mention the $30 option (it is not widely advertised in T-Mobile as you know). However, no problem, it will become available during activation.
    (3) Now replace the SIM card that you received from Apple with the SIM card you received from T-Mobile.
    (4) Before you start the activation process, write down clearly (and double check)  the "activation code" found in the T-mobile activation kit, the "SIM card serial number" found in the kit as well and the "Phone serial number (IMEI)" found on the iPhone box you received from Apple.
    (5) Go to T-Mobile "Activate your new phone"  https://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/ActivateCodes.aspx  and enter those 3 numbers, very carefully. (I have heard any mistake may stop the process and you need a new SIM card to restart).
In the next screen, you will pick the plan (all prepaid plans are showing, including the $30 100 min / unlimited text / web, but beware as there is another $30 for 1500 min, no web) and then a phone number (or transfer your phone number) - when you click "next" you actually receive a text message on the phone right away! In the next screen you enter your payment information (debit, credit or purchased prepaid card), then you are done.
    (6) I actually went back to my-t-mobile.com to create a login - pw so I can change my payment method later and see the data and minutes used.
No need to adjust any APN settings. Got LTE in my area and internet speed clocks at an amazing 32.77 Mbps Download. ENJOY!
