IPhone 6 Shuts Off at 50% Battery

I just upgraded from the iPhone 4S and have only had my iPhone 6 for 2 weeks and already seem to be having problems.  I am not a rich person and cannot afford to be buying a new phone every time this on fails me.  I, like most people, use my iPhone as my alarm clock.  If my phone shuts down in the middle of the night I am late for work in the morning and I lose my job.
My phone has been shutting itself off when the battery reaches 50% power.  Why?  Is this a glitch?  Do I need to return my phone and request a brand new replacement?  Is the battery bad and does it need to be replaced? Am I doing something wrong?
Plus I only seem to have 1-2 bars of service (AT&T customer) when I would have mostly 3-5 bars with my iPhone 4s.  What's going on?  Is there something I can do to fix this?

If you have a recent Backup of your Media/Data on your Computer with a current version of iTunes, you could Restore the iPhone 6 to Factory Settings and see if the Battery issue persists.  To do this you could put the iPhone in DFU Mode by holding the Home button while plugging the lightning cable into the iPhone.  You would then see a graphic on your iPhone 6 screen indicating you need to connect the iPhone to your Computer and iTunes for a Restore.  Don't do this if you don't have a Computer and iTunes.  Don't do this if you don't know your Apple ID and Password.
There are some preliminary things you could try first, if you choose...
A Reset ...By Holding down the Sleep / Wake (Power) button and the Home button at the same time until the white Apple logo appears on your iPhone 6 screen, then release the buttons but leave the iPhone alone until it fully Resets to your lock-screen.
You could also try a "Reset All Settings" but you would then need to add back your personal choices in Settings and perhaps add back your WiFi Password.
Also:  If you are going to want to return the iPhone and get another one do it within the first 14-days.
However your iPhone is still covered and any warrantee issues would be covered beyond that within the warrantee period of longer if you purchased AppleCare Plus for iPhone.

  • Why does my iPhone 4 shut off below 15% battery life?

I noticed my iPhone 4 battery was getting low today. I was given a message at 20% life. I then let the phone drop down to 15%.
I received a phone call, in which the call dropped. After I pressed the Sleep button, I was not able to wake the phone. Instead,
I had to plug it in for about 3 minutes, and Sleep/Wake + Home buttons to restart the device.
Is this just a miscalibration with my battery? Or is this some sort of defect. Other than this issue, my battery life has been fine and the device has been working as expected.

hi CiChirs, could be two circumstances. that the battery is completely consumed and then the iphone  is off, this is due to applications or  updates. I had an iphone 4 for a long time and battery worked within normal limits. so check applications or settings of your iphone.
if the iphone is taking off with power, then you most likely have a short circuit, check the dock connector with a clean brush.
    i hope it help.

  • IPhone 4 Shuts Off repeatedly and battery drains after ios7 update

This morning at 5:20 am, my alarm went off on my iphone like normal, I plugged my 100% battery charged iphone out of its charger and within 30 seconds it turned off. I quickly plugged it back in the charger and it dropped to 41%. Then as I had to start my morning and get to work and take the phone again out of its charger, it died again. So I got to work, and I have put my phone to "charge" while plugged to the charger, but as time passes, instead of charging my battery it looses life, then I recieved a notification to update my phone, which I did however this did not help my phone, it still continues to turn off once I plug the phone  out of the charger.

Same here. My ipad mini used to last weeks, now I can barely get a full day out of it, after I finally updated to ios7. And yes I disabled every possible battery drainer I could find and rebooted. This is clearly to me a bug for the mini, possibly their code that drains batteries on older devices to force people to buy new hardware is running faster than it used to when it would only kill your battery twice as fast, perhaps something else I would hope, but I'm about to hack my device and return to ios 6 as this is absurd. I can put my ipad down for a few hours and pick it up with a 5% drain or overnight with a 70% drain.

Hold down home and sleep buttons for about 15 seconds.   If you don't see the Apple logo, plug phone into wall charger for at least 15 minutes.

  • My iPhone 4S shut off with a 62% battery life and hasn't came back on yet. I've charged it and all it just won't come back on at all. Is this a common problem? Is this covered under my 1 year warranty?

My iPhone 4S shut off with a 62% battery life and hasn't came back on yet. I've charged it and all it just won't come back on at all. Is this a common problem? Is this covered under my 1 year warranty?

    No it is not common.
    Most have no issues.
Have you tried basics from the manual?  Restart, reset, restore?
The warranty covers defects.  If the iphone is defective, then they would replace it.

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.

  • IPhone 6 shuts down with 40% battery life

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 6 (64 GB) on T-Mobile running iOS 8.0.2 that shuts off when the battery indicator says about 40%.  I could be using it like normal, then it just shuts down and flashes the red battery logo and tells me to plug it in.  It comes right back on when connected to power and then it is good to go.  I haven't tried to run it back past 40%, again, but the phone consistently powers down around the 40% mark.
I set up the phone with an import from my iPhone 5S and I got into the "death spiral", where the phone was stuck in a constant reboot unless I did the hard restart (power and home button until the phone restarted).  I think I fixed that by deleting the apps that were loaded from my 5S backup and installing them fresh from the app store.
I am restoring the phone right now and will load the backup from the iPhone 6.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Matt

It could be an issue with the battery calibration. I would go threw with the restore, set the device up as new, then restore from the backup. If that does not work then it is hardware related and most likely a battery issue. If you have an Apple Retail Store near you could take it in there for battery replacement, or you could call Apple Care and they have mail in options. You will want to make an appointment for the Apple Retail Store if you choose to go that route.

  • My 3GS iPhone randomly shuts off

My 3GS iPhone randomly shuts off or gives a low battery indicator even when the battery is not low. I tried going to the Apple store and they were not helpful saying to close out apps using the multi-task button. Even after doing that, my phone was continuing to shut down. First is was around 33%, then 54%, then 76%, then even at 97%. So I had the battery replaced with a brand-new battery.
Now not only does the phone randomly shut down saying a low battery, but it is not recognizing the charge on the battery. I had the phone on for six hours unplugged and it remained at 100% charge. Then I went to make a phone call on it and after two minutes the phone completely shut off. It would not accept a charge. I had it charge overnight. I tried using different cords. I tried plugging it into a USB port on a computer, using the wall charger, and a car charger. The phone kept saying the battery was dead. Then miraculously then phone started to work a day and a half later, but only for one phone call. Then phone died again and has not accepted a charge for two days now. You would think after two days, the NEW battery would be charged.
My phone is not under warranty. I do not have the funds to purchase a new iPhone at this time.I know there have been a lot of posts about this, but I have tried every concievable option out there and nothing is working. I'm frustrated. Is this an operating system error and can it be fixed? Or is the phone trashed? ARGH!!

    So Brad, just an update...
My phone periodically works and then it doesn't. The battery percentage indictator still continues to remain at 100% charge though I know common sense would tell me that the battery percentage would be decreased if the phone sat unplugged and on all day long. When then phone does work, I try to restore it, but iTunes keeps saying that there must have been a connection failure and iTunes had to stop downloading. FYI- I have no connection issues with my Internet.
    Here is the weird thing...
Sometimes the phone is still showing the dead battery page and asking me to charge the phone. So I'll plug in the phone, let it sit charging for 4 hours, 12 hours, even days at a time... and it will continue to have the battery dead screen asking me to charge the phone. So then I will unplug the phone and leave it alone. After approximately 48 hours, I'll go back to the phone and hit the Home button and miracuously the phone would turn on. It is as if the phone is confused and the battery life is being drained when it is plugged in, but then miracuously recharges itself while sitting unconnected to any cords or plugs.
This makes no sense and I cannot explain it. I have waited to respond to your initial postings because I wanted to see if I could restore the phone. In addition, I wanted to confirm I was not crazy and that the phone is actually acting opposite what it should in reference to charging vs. non-charging.
Any idea why the phone is acting backwards in regards to the battery life? Since my last post, I've only been able to actually turn on my phone 3 times, literally once a week and then it only lasts for about 12 hours before dying on me again.

  • IPhone 6 shutting off randomly

My iPhone 6 shuts off randomly after using the camera or camera apps and during texts.  It also needs to be plugged in while it still has 28% battery left.  Anyone else? I restored and activated as new without any resolution to the problem.  I am being told it's probably "an underlying hardware problem."  Not thrilled.

To rule out a software issue,  set it up as new device without using the latest backup, explained here:

  • Computer shuts off at 45% Battery

My MacBook Pro shuts off at 45% battery life, I do not get a low level warning before it shuts down. I have replaced this battery with a new one, and it does the same thing. I notice that my led on my charger blinks from amber to green all the while charging. My new battery only lasts from 45 minutes to one hour after a full charge. I have done the SCM resest and the Pram, I have done everything recommended. Still no answers. I have the original 2006 MacBook Pro and had the battery replacement exchange within the first 4 months of owning it. That battery worked fine until a couple weeks ago. I did some updates, and now it seems that it has affected my battery for some reason....This new battery I just installed last week. It's very frustrating to have to haul my ac charger with me everywhere. I do not have any extended warranty. Can anyone else give me something else to try? Below is my battery info.

It strikes me as odd that your charger blinks from amber to green while charging rather than glowing a steady amber. Does it fully charge your battery--i.e. do all the lights in the battery light up, regardless of what it says in the menu bar?
For the battery to charge properly, three things have to work--the battery, the power adaptor, and the left I/O Board.
Your new battery sounds like it may be defective. Take a look at this article:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
After 6 cycles, your Remaining Capacity in should be very close to your Full Charge Capacity of 3496 mAh, rather than 1350 mAh.
It's also possible there could be a problem with your power adaptor or the left I/O Board. Usually the way to narrow it down is to try a known good power adaptor and a known good battery. If the problem remains, the left I/O Board is likely the problem.
It may be worth taking a careful look at both the port and the end of the MagSafe connector, and check to see that none of the pins has become pushed in or something like that. It may also be that the blinking green/amber indicates a faulty connection of some sort.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 4 shut off and won't turn on

My iPhone just shut off today, and won't turn back on. I tried charging it up, but the batter charger doesn't even get warm, so it appears to NOT charge. I'll be trying to plug into iTunes next...but this does not look good for the phone.  Any suggestions or has anyone gone through something like this?

Hold down sleep wake button and home button down for 18-20 sec to restart the phone.

It was a very bad idea to post your email address where millions of people will see it. Expect your spam to increase exponentially, as well as the phishing attempts. It would probably be a good idea to change your password to a really strong one, and, as you have gmail, look into Google's two factor authentication.
