Iphone 6 won't backup to icloud

My husband and I upgraded from iphone 4s to iphone 6. We used to share the same apple id, but ran into an issue where a contact would call him but it would appear on my phone was well. It was suggested to alleviate that issue that we should create a new icloud account. We use our yahoo email as our itunes/main apple id. I created a new icloud account for my iphone, but left the yahoo email as the itunes id. I'm still not able to backup my iphone to icloud. It won't do it automatically and I'm not able to do it manually. There is plenty of space. I have the free 5gb plan and only 2gb to backup. I've read through the communities and internet and itunes/icloud/iphone help, but haven't been successful. My husband's iphone doesn't have any problems backing up. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help!
Anne

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup and choose Turn Off & Delete at the prompt.  Then go to Settings>iCloud>Backup and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • My iPhone 5 won't backup on iCloud

I currently use an iPhone 5 but I've recently purchased an iPhone 6. I've been attempting to set up the iPhone 6, but my first issue was that the software on the 6 wasn't up to date, so I had to set up the phone as 'New' before I could proceed. Having done that, I then attempted to restore a backup on my new phone, from my old one. However, the backup is quite outdated and doesn't include my latest documents and photos. I then attempted to do this via my PC, but with no results, oddly. Literally nothing was restored unto my new phone. Unfortunately, ever since updating to iOS 8, I've been unable to backup my phone on iCloud. I constantly get unreasonable estimates of time the process will take, before I get an error message notifying me that the backup could not complete, even though there clearly is adequate storage space on my iCloud account. I have however, been able to backup my phone to my PC, but none of my photos or apps actually backed up. I've read a ton of threads and posts on this site and other forums, but in practice, all have my attempts have been to no avail. There seems to be no real solution to my problem and I've tried everything that has been suggested by Apple and others. Everything on my phones seems to be in order, as far as I'm aware. Before the update, my phone used to backup automatically, when connected to my wi-fi and the cable, with no problem whatsoever. I'm not confidently suggesting that the cause or issue is the new iOS version, but the problem did start closely after. I would utterly appreciate it if anyone could provide a viable and effective solution, please. I'm really desperate. I really don't want to rely on my old backup or have to manually move everything from one device to the next. Please help!

An inability to back up to iCloud may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.

It may also be caused by network connectivity issues with the iCloud server.  Solutions to that include power-cycling your wireless router (unplugging it for 15 seconds, then plugging it back in), resetting network settings on your phone (in Settings>General>Reset), updating the firmware on your router, and changing the router's DNS settings to use Google's public DNS (see https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using) or set it in your iOS wifi settings and restart the device so the take effect (see http://osxdaily.com/2014/08/08/change-dns-settings-ios/).
I'm not sure why you're having problems backing it up to your computer using iTunes.  The backup should include your app data and camera roll photos.  Other photos, such as photo stream photos, would need to be saved to the camera roll prior to backing up in order to be included.  The apps themselves are saved to your iTunes library and are synced to your phone when you restore the backup.  To back up your phone and transfer your apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library, connect the phone to your computer, launch iTunes, then go to File>Devices>Back Up, and agree to back up apps and transfer purchases if prompted (or force it by going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases).

  • IPhone 4S won't backup to iCloud

I have seen others in the community with this same issue and tried all the possible fixes.  I am at the point where I am ready to reset my phone to factory defaults.  Why won't this backup?  It hasn't backed up since 10/2/12, which was right after I put iOS 6 on my iPhone.  Is there anything I can do?  I don't want to completely reset my phone and still have the same issues.  I also noticed my photo stream has quit working since this happened too.

If you get the message "Backup not successful",  I had the same problem.
My solution was to turn off some apps (Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap my device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options) and try a manual backup.  If it didn't work, turn off a few more apps and try a backup.  Keep doing that until the backup works.  Then try adding in some of the last batch of apps that were previously turned off - the objective is to find the app that causes the backup to fail.  For me, I suspect that the one app I found had a bad data file that, when included in the backup, caused the backup to quit.
This can be a long process if you have a lot of apps that you originally turned on for backups.
If the device won't back up even when all the apps are turned off, then there's a more serious problem going on.

  • HT204053 i restarted my apple id email because i deleted my old email.. but now my phone won't backup to icloud because it's asking for the password to the old email. How would i fix this?

i restarted my apple id email because i deleted my old email.. but now my phone won't backup to icloud because it's asking for the password to the old email. How would i fix this?

If your phone is signed into your old iCloud ID ("email"), you need to delete the existing account then sign back in with your new ID.  To do this go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • My iPhone 4S will not backup to iCloud

My iPhone 4S will not backup to iCloud. My husband has the iPhone 4 and has no proleg with backups. Any suggestions?

You need to have your phone plugged in and on wifi for automatic backups to take place.   Also, you must not be out of your 5GB free space on your iCloud account.
If it is hanging up, delete the existing backup and then try to start again.

Yes, if you're restoring from iCloud.  No, if restoring from iTunes.

  • My iPhone will not automatically backup to iCloud after iOS7 install

My iPhone 5 will not automatically backup to icloud anymore now that iOS7 has been installed. Steps I have tried so far...
Installed iOS7 through Software Update - relazed three days later that the phone was not backing up
    Did a manual backup
    Erased the entire phone
    Restored from iCloud backup
    Then reset all phone settings
Signed out of iCloud, deleted all data and then signed back in
Is anyone else having this issue after updating to iOS7?

my dear friend i have like your problem before and when i see alot of solution i find the one it work with me and
    come autmatic again
    take the solution:
Note that a manual backup also factors into the automatic backup schedule, meaning the next automatic backup will not occur until  48 hours later.
Actually the iCloud backup process sounds a bit more complicated than it actually is in practical use. You can’t schedule iCloud backups manually, but you don’t need to do so as iOS takes care of this for you, and it’s designed to be pretty transparent.
Once enabled, iCloud backups will run automatically whenever the following conditions are met:
    Your device is powered on,
Your device is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi,
Your device is connected to a power source,
Your device has the screen locked (i.e. turned off), and
It has been at least 24 hours since the last successful backup occurred.
In other words, your device may not be backed up to iCloud at the same time every day, but once 24 hours has elapsed the iPhone will make a backup as soon as it is plugged in and on Wi-Fi with the screen off. For example, if your iPhone backs up to iCloud at 10:00 pm tonight, but you don’t plug it in while on a Wi-Fi connection until midnight tomorrow night, the next backup will occur at midnight—basically as soon as you plug it in—and future backups will continue to run at midnight on subsequent days as long as the iPhone is plugged in, connected to Wi-Fi, and has the screen off at that time. If you’re working an irregular schedule and coming home at different hours, this may gradually push the backups to later at night, but the backup won’t be skipped if you miss the time window—it will still occur as soon as possible once all of the other conditions are met.
This does of course mean that sometimes backups can get pushed to the point where they may be delayed until the next night; come home at 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning and plug in your iPhone and that’s when your next backup will occur, but if you leave for work on Monday morning at 9:00 am and your phone isn’t plugged in and on Wi-Fi while at work, you won’t get another automatic backup until you get home and plug it in later that night.
You can check the time of the last successful iCloud backup by going into the Settings app on your iPhone and choosing Storage & Backup from the iCloud section.
You can also tap the “Back Up Now” button from this screen to create a manual iCloud backup at any time. To create a manual iCloud backup, your iPhone only needs to be on Wi-Fi, it does not need to be plugged in or have the screen off.
Note that a manual backup also factors into the automatic backup schedule, meaning the next automatic backup will not occur until  48 hours later.
This can be one method for adjusting to a specific backup time if you really feel the need to, but it’s largely unnecessary as iOS should naturally settle into a standard backup routine as long as your iPhone is regularly plugged in and on Wi-Fi for at least a few hours each day, such as while you’re sleeping.
As one last note, it’s also worth keeping in mind that the iPhone only needs to be connected to power with the screen off to start an iCloud backup; once the automatic backup has started, it will continue as long as the iPhone remains on a Wi-Fi connection, even if you unplug the iPhone or begin using it.

  • Ipad mini iOS 8.1.2 won't backup anywhere; icloud or itunes

Got an iPad mini, trying to backup to iCloud. When I go to the iCloud settings, click Storage, then Manage Storage, then this iPad, the Backup Options just spins. Never been backed up.
    Tried hard reset. No change.
Deleted non-existent backup, hard reset, turned backup back on; no change.
    Turned iCloud Drive off; no
Tried backup to iTunes on Mac; cannot back up because an error occurred.
Tried backup to iTunes on a windows machine; cannot back up because an error occurred.
    Thoughts?

It's also an issue I encountered with my iPhone 5 eversince I upgraded to iOS 8.1.0. I can't backup my phone using both iCloud (with error: The last backup could not be completed) and iTunes (with error: iTunes could not backup the iPhone because an error occurred).
When my battery was replaced by Apple Store, they formatted my fone and installed iOS 8.1.1. Before restoring my data (iOS 8.0.0 backup), I did a quick backup for both and they were successful. When I restored my data, the backup problem recurred. I also updated my phone to iOS 8.1.2, but still the problem was not resolved.
WIthin the week, I'll be receiving my iPhone 6 Plus but I up to now, I don't have a backup yet for my data.
    Hope someone can help me...

  • IPhone 5 unable to Backup in iCloud

I have the iPhone 5 and I seem to be unable to back it up into the iCloud. Backup on my iPad 2 to the iCloud works perfectly. Can anyone help me find the solution to my problem.
    As additional information:
    a) I am running iTunes on a Windows 7 PC
    b) My internet connection isn't very fast, but my iPad manages to backup to the iCloud overnight. My iPhone always shows that it has never backed up to iCloud, no matter what I've tried.
    c) My old iPhone 3GS used to backup to the cloud without any problems.
I would be very grateful for any assistance. Thank you.

  • Iphone 6plus won't backup over wifi

I bought a new iPhone 6 plus in December and I've never been able to back up the phone over my wifi. I never had this problem with my previous iPhones and my wife has the exact same iPhone 6 plus that I have and hers works perfectly fine. Every couple of weeks I get a message that the phone has never been back up and when I try to do a 'Back Up Now", it will start and seem to work for awhile and then when I check it, it will say that the back up could not be completed. I have plenty of storage space and all settings are correct (and the same as my wife's) on my phone and iTunes.

I did that as well as turn off the backup to iCloud and rebooted it. Neither worked and now, I am unable to turn the iCloud Backup back on. I get an error message saying "There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup". I also forgot to mention in my original post that my phone will not sync over wi-fi either even though it is set to do so. Any other suggestions?
