IPhone can not be restored. No service. No Activation.
I recently asked a question on here with an answer which did not help. I have also asked elsewhere and they have just told me things that I have either already tried or already know about. I will try and produce a list of everything I have tried and what is not working.
Problem: I can not access into my phone because after installing the new iOS 5.1, I cannot get past the activation stage (note: the phone also says no service in the top left corner, even though it worked fine with previous iOS's). Also, after I decided to give up with iOS 5.1, I tried to revert back to a previous iOS (even as far back as iOS 4.0) and iTunes just tells me that 'the iPhone could not be restored'. Why?!
So now, I am left with no phone which I really need. I have tried restoring it back to all previous iOS's and none of them have worked. I have tried activating it through iTunes (it just tells me there is no sim card inserted). I have tried various other things too.
Please can someone shed some light on this situation.
Downgrading that way does not work, and is not supported by Apple.
Was your phone originally carrier locked and unlocked by unauthorized methods? If so, when you updated to iOS 5.1, the phone re-locked to its original carrier and you now get no service. There is no workaround.

my stupid partner decided to attempt to change the earpiece on his iphone himself. Problem being that he didnt take the SIM out before he took out the battery. He is also quite heavy handed so got a feeling he may have broke something inside.

I put my phone into a recovery mode but it showed "The iPhone cannot be restored error (3419)." I want to restore it, but all it shows is a iTunes symbol, and an Apple cord. What do I do?! Error 1 is a very bad Hardware Error of the Baseband Chip. There is no fix. If you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage, make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

IPhone 4s can not be restored. A unknown error occurred (1)
My phone decided to turn itself off, and now wont restore,just getting the message "iPhone can not be restored. An unknown error occurred(1). I've tried the hold power and home button together but doesn't work.
Any ideas anyone?Hoping someone has an answer for this as well. Some of the things I've tried are:
- Installing on different machines
- Using different USB cables
- Using different USB ports
- Restoring while the phone is in DFU mode
- Connecting the computer directly to the router
- Restoring on Windows 7 and Windows XP (no access to a Mac)
Each and every time I get the same Unknown Error (1) message. -
My iphone 5 screen is froze on the itunes screen. I tried to restore the iphone on my pc and it says it can not be restored. This phone is only 1 week old!!
You should contact Apple Support to get it serviced, your device is still under warranty.

Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
As stated, check Hosts file that it points to Apple and not anywhere else. -
All- I get this message ("iPhone can not make or receive calls. Restore from iTunes" (happend once while on airplain mode and now once while in wifi only area, out of cell range)). iPhone 4. Newest OS. Never happened with old OS! Cycling phone on/off does not help. Ignoring message causes phone to cycle off then on. After first time this happened, I restored. Six days later...same problem! Clearly a new fix is necessary. Suggestions?
I have not tried that...I will look up the process so that I can do it correctly (and still transfer all of my files, contacts, etc). Any suggestions? What is the advantage of restoring as a new device..is this more akin to a complete wipe of a hard drive?

While upgrading my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.2 something went wrong and came up with the message "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred [1015]." Now it will not start at all. It just stays on screen with USB and the iTune picture. What can I do to get it going again. I only tried to upgrade because I was prompted to up-grade and now I am helpless. I did a backup before starting the upgrade. The error message did not tell what to do next. Any help is very much appreciated.
Usually that means the iPhone was hacked to unlock it from the original
carrier .
Updating the operating system locks it back to that original carrier

This means that either your firewall/antivirus is blocking access to Apple's servers, or you have used your computer to jailbreak an iDevice in the past. The link above tells you how to resolve this issue. -

During recovery on iPhone 4 I got : The iPhone could not be restored. Un unknown error occurred ( 3004 ). Then - iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.Then I get error 3004 again. Latest iTunes and OS updates. I cant use the phone now. I did restart the destop,unplug the usb,...etc. Same iTune logo ,arrow and USB on the screen.THANK YOU SO MUCH,...!

when I power on it shows go itune logo starts. Then I tried to download restore and update it shows Tunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. iphone could not be restored. Then an unknown error occuired(1604) shows.an unknown error occuired(1604). It also happened to me. What I did was to put my USB connector at the back of my PC (the main USB port) then I open my iTunes again and Viola, it solves my problem.
