Iphone freezes during restore - should I re-install itunes?

I downloaded iTunes to a new computer today. I synced my iphone and then tried to update the software. Each time I go through this process however, it freezes at the same spot. I'm trying to restore my phone and I can't complete the process. If I delete iTunes and re-install it, will I lose all of the information that was synced? My last computer died and I'm unable to get old sync information off of that. I have no back-up calendar or contacts. Any suggestions?
I have been working on this for 3 hours now and I use my phone as my alarm clock and I am laughing at how I'm going to figure out how to get up tomorrow. Can someone call me? No. Phone won't turn on past the plug into iTunes logo. Maybe I should have just kept a landline, datebook and alarm clock. Please help!

Arafatsapey, dead wrong. The current iTunes for for windows is compatible with:
Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

Yudna, I would install the latest iTunes if not already installed

  • HT201210 iPhone freezing during restore.....

My iPhone 4 keeps freezing about 60% way through a restore, according to iTunes when the firmware is being updated. Any ideas how to fix? I have tried a different computer, disabling my security software etc. and still no luck :o( (Windows)

I was doing exactly what you suggested for hours prior to posting my question. I tried restoring, I tried restore/update over and over and it would always freeze between 25-75% through. I restarted my laptop 20 times, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 4 times. Finally, today I was so frustrated that when I saw it freeze up one more time, I just pulled the power cord out of my laptop and walked away. An hour later I booted back up and set it to restore before I left the room and ....magic, it finally worked. Whether the unplug event had any real connection, I don't know.
If anyone does freeze during an update and has the "connect to itunes screen with the red itunes logo" stuck on their iphone screen, modular 747 is correct. Just keep trying the restore/update through itunes, but be prepared to do it non-stop for almost 72 hours like I did.

having problems installing itunes on computer so I can sysc with iphone.  had to download only then installed itunes.  getting error trying to install AppleMobileDevice64.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Mobile Device Support entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

downloading new operating system iPhone 3gs freezes during restore

I was only able to restore the phone after booting into Windows and using the Windows version of iTunes. Kinda pathetic.

  • IPhone crashes during restoring. What should I do?

I was busy restoring my iphone 3G but I had no idea that iTunes will demand that your sim-card that was in the iPhone at the first you bought it. And unfortunately I have lost this sim-card, so my phone is kind of dead right now.

iTunes is responsible for making sure your phone gets activated properly, and therefore needs the sim card. You can take the phone to AT&T and give them your account information. They will give you a brand new sim for the device. Then try to restore with the SIM in. Should work fine after this.

  • Iphone freezes on restore

I'm trying to restore my iphone and it keeps freezing during the restore process at around 60%. I get the apple logo and then the progress bar stops a little over half way. The progress bar in itunes freezes at around 99%.
Can anyone help me get this fixed? Is there a way to erase the iphone and start from scratch?
    Cheers,

Disable all security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware, etc.) running on your Mac.

  • IPhone crashes during restore

I have an iPhone 5s, bought 14 months ago (without Apple Care, so out of warranty).
    Background Information:
Since I updated to iOS 8.1.1, my iPhone has been crashing infrequently, in: Blue screen, Apple logo, back to blue screen, Apple logo, etc. This would solve itself after an hour or two (sometimes more), and the phone would then be useable again.
However, even though it would take a long time sometimes, eventually the phone would crash again. I went to my local Apple Premium Reseller (iCentre Delft, the Netherlands), and they said I should restore the phone via iTunes. I did and it worked fine for approximately 5 days. But then, this morning, it crashed again. Same thing as before. But this time it DID NOT go back to usable, and I decided to try and hook it up to iTunes again. It wasn't recognized, however, and therefore I could not restore my phone. I called Apple Support, and they said I should put the phone into recovery (DFU) mode. I did, and it clearly shows the iTunes logo with the lightning cable. But now comes the problem:
    The problem:
When I connect to iTunes, I get the normal messages requesting me to reset the phone (2). It starts just fine, but when the first white appears on the bar on the iPhone, it gets stuck (while the bar in iTunes keeps moving). 10 seconds later, and the blue screen pops up again, after which it heads back to the basic recovery mode screen. On iTunes I get error 9, which shows USB connection issues. However, I doubt that this is the case and suspect that it gives this error because it has nothing else to give.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    HEy dear,
for take your device to recovery mode you have to hold home and power then release the power and hold the home for 10 second. Then the iTunes will apear.
BUt for DFU mode you have to hold the home button until the itunes recognize your device and be availabe on your iTunes but there wont be any iTunes logo on your iPhone screen everything will be black on your iPhone. Try restoring your iPhone in DFU mode.

  • IPhone freeze after restore

I restore the iphone 2 days ago, and the itune try to download the 1.02 iphone firmware for restore, but it kept download ... showing like 110mb/97mb. ( suppose it will stop at 97mb, 100%).
So i turn to use another computer which had the firmware downloaded before, and after the restore of iphone, the iphone screen was freeze, i only can see the Earth, Slide for emergency....but i cannot slide the bar, and i cannot do anythings.
Anyone have this experience ? i try to restore a few times, but still freeze.

Try resetting the iphone. Press and hold the "off" button on top and the menu button on the front at the same time. Then turn the phone back on again using only the top button as usual. That may unfreeze it.

  • Iphone freeze during iOS 5.1update

    the iphone is completely frozen
with the apple and the bar
    not responding anymore
    no possibility to restore
    what must i do?

Here is how to solve the problem step by step:
You should connect your iPhone to USB 2.1 port or older.  If you are connecting your iPhone to the computer using a USB 3.0 port, disconnect it immediately.  iPhones will lock up if you try to update your phone while it is connected through a USB 3.0 port.
Disconnect the iPhone from the computer
Go to Device Manager and find the connected USB port.  Click the mouse right button and update the driver
Shut the iPhone by pressing the sleep button and the home button concurrently for some time
Move the USB cable to a USB 2.1 port or older without the iPhone.
    Restart iTunes.
    Connect the iPhone
Your computer should recognize the phone and reloads the correct USB 2.1 driver (Apple Mobile Device)
Then iTunes should recognize the iPhone and starts reloading the firmware.
When that is complete it may ask if you wish to restore, naturally you say YES
    iTunes will restore the iOS
Using iTunes, restore the latest backup to get your data back.
When all of the above is completed.  Start enjoying your iPhone.
If the above does not work.  Throw your iPhone out of the window and get a replacement Android phone.

  • IPhone Freeze during Sync (itunes 7.4.2, or  OSX 10.4.10?)

Ok, a few seconds into my sync, my iPhone freezes.
the animation on the words "slide to cancel" stops and I can't slide the slider to stop the sync. the only way to get the iphone back is to do a reset.
I think that I have not been able to sync since upgrading to itunes 7.4.2, or osx 10.4.10.
when I go to preferences it does not list any iphones backed up on this computer, even though I have synced this iphone to this computer before.
any ideas? I'm on firmware 1.0.2 but I'm afraid to upgrade until I do a sync that works!!!
    I also

I have been having this same issue for over a month.
Took it to the Genius Bar @ my local Apple Store, they replaced it.
Sync went fine, then went to create ringtones and it froze.
I called Apple support line, got their top tech after two other people failed, spoke
for over an hour. Came away with no more sync issues.
A week later I went to sync using 1.1.1, OK , put in dock few days later and its freezing again !

  • Solution for iphone 3g hanging / freezing during restore!

Well like many other iphone users my little bundle of joy decided it didn't like one of the app updates (happened during the voicenote update) and decided to reboot and get stuck on the apple logo "screen of death".
Firstly i put it into recovery mode (holding power and home button down then restarting while still holding down the home button)
iTunes recognized that it was in recovery mode and that it neeeded to be restored. Good times so far...
Once it restored it then wanted to know if i wanted to load my backup. I really needed this to work as it has all my data, sms, important stuff like that.
So it is happily ticking along restoring from back up and it gets to about 95% done and looks like it freezes. Nothing.... for 1 hour so i get an itchy iphone finger and disconnect it. when it reboots it loads with an incomplete set of apps.
    Bad times
So i do the whole process again and not let my itchy iphone finger run amock but after hanging at 95% again for 2 hours i disconnected it again. it reboots (by itself after leaving it for a minute) and when it loads up it still has an incomplete set of apps installed on it but guess what? There were far more installed than the first time i tried with the restore!!
So i did this whole process for a third time but this time i just left it and went to bed. In the morning i woke up to a healthy iphone!!!! GOOD TIMES!
Granted the music and vids are missing etc but i always create a "iphone playlist" so in the event that something like this happens i know i just resync that playlist and everything is sorted.
Moral of the restore and restore from backup story... Don't let the itchy iphone finger get the better of you.Just leave it be, it took a fair few hours and looked like it had frozen at 95% but it got there in the end. Unless you get an actual error with the update/restore just be patient and let it do it's thing.
I think it looked like it was freezing / hanging as it was reinstalling all the apps back on the iphone(i have a fair few).
I now have my bundle of joy back and all is well.... for now.
Beware of the itchy iphone finger!
    Hope this helps

You were right - waiting solved the "freezing" of the restore process. It didn't even take much longer than two or three hours this time (maybe because I already had a couple of hours done the time before?).
Sadly my problem wasn't solved, but I guess that was because the backup itself was faulty.
Apple should really not automatically replace a good backup - especially not after a restore that could be broken (because a part of iTunes crashed, for example, which did happen to me already twice out of two times I started a restore "project").

  • IPhone 4s freezing during restore..

    Hi guys,
I have recently moved to the UK from Australia and my phone has been getting really hot and dying really quickly so I decided to update to the latest software as soon as it became available (6.0.1 I think it's called). During the update, my phone froze on the screen with the apple and the loading bar underneath at only about 5%. After two hours I had to go out so I unplugged my phone thinking I would still be able to use it. Apparently not. When I returned home and plugged my phone in, it said I have to restore it. I have since tried restoring it three times but it keeps freezing on the same spot (about 5%) and I don't know how to fix it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Laura

make sure you have a good internet connection, make sure you dont have any anit virus/ firewall on, force it in to recovery mode, try a different computer.

  • IPhone 4 freezes during restore/upgrade to iOS 7.0.2

I have an iPhone 4 that was running iOS 6.1.3. I requested that my provider unlock my phone and they told me I had to back up and restore to proceed, which necessitated that I upgrade to iOS 7.0.2. When I tried to download the iOS 7.0.2 IPSW directly through iTunes, I received a message upon the completion of the download that the file was corrupted. I decided to bypass this step by downloading the IPSW directly from Apple and alt-clicking the Restore button to choose the file directly. Each time, the upgrade hangs about 30% of the way through, leaving me essentially with a bricked phone. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I might be able to successfully restore my phone?

I was only able to restore the phone after booting into Windows and using the Windows version of iTunes. Kinda pathetic.

  • IPod Touch freezing during restore

I have a 16GB iPod Touch 2nd generation and I am trying to install OS 4.0 and it's been an absolute nightmare. I downloaded the new software (which took quite a while since it kept giving me an error which made me restart the download like 4 times).
So now I'm in the process of actually INSTALLING that software. When I plug my iPod Touch into iTunes it says it sees the iPod is in recovery mode and asks me to restore my ipod (the only option it is allowing me to access is the "Restore" button, so all the "Update" errors are out of the question here).
When I "restore" my iPod however, the process get's about 1/4 of the way through before it freezes and the progress indicator on my iPod AND the progress indicator in iTunes stays at the same place and doesn't move. Even after letting it sit ALL night last night (about 8 hours) it STILL hadn't moved when I woke up this morning.
Any suggestions on how I could fix this?

    I may have a solution...
I phoned Apple Support this evening around 7pm and they were really helpful. My ipod is at least back on - albeit with everything wiped - but it's currently resyncing.
They walked me through these steps:
    1. Quit iTunes (Force Quit if you have to)
    2. Disconnect the ipod from your computer
    3. Create a new user account (I named mine Dummy)
    4. Log out and log in to the new User account
    5. Press and hold the power button on the iPod to turn the thing off - if it doesn't go off, then press the home button briefly as well so that it does.
    6. Open iTunes
    7. reconnect the iPod to your computer and once the usb cable is inserted fully, press the home button on the ipod to switch it on
    8. iTunes should detect the iPod and offer to restore it. Accept the restore option.
    9. iTunes will download the software (took about 10 minutes for me - 315Gb) and then you need to follow the instructions and accept the software license agreement.
    10. In iTunes, you should see the "restoring iPod Software", "verifying iPod software", etc and once done your iPod should run good as new.
Safely disconnect the iPod (make sure you eject it first), log out of the dummy account and back into your regular one. Open iTunes, reconnect your iPod and iTunes should start to restore the iPod from the backup made earlier.
Be patient with that last one if you've got a lot of data backed up!
I really hope this helps others - my backup restoration still hasn't finished yet, but it's looking promising. I performed all this on a MacBook Pro, but from the way the support lady kept thinking I was running Windoze, I guess the same process will work in that OS too.
Oh - and phoning Apple support didn't cost me a penny despite being well outside the 90 days... in fact, because I'd never called them before, they granted me a 45 day warranty and offered me the option of taking out an extended 12 months too (for £39). I haven't taken them up on that yet, but seriously thinking about it - seems cheaper than buying a new iPod...
    Peace
