Iphone frozen on apple icon, won't start up

Installing an update to an ap and it froze up. Turned iphone off and when I tried to turn back on it's frozen on the apple icon and won't do anything.

First thing to try is hold down the home and power buttons for around 30 seconds until the screen turns black and the apple reappears. When it reappears release the buttons.
If that doesn't work, connect the device to iTunes. And then... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

  • My Apple TV won't start. When turned on it shows an Apple TV box with a cord leading to but not connected to an iTunes icon

MMy Apple TV won't start.  When turned on it shows an apple TV box with a cord leading to an iTunes icon. I have tried unplugging  still get the same message. Our electricity was off a few days ago. Could the HDMI cord be bad?

    It's not the HDMI cable.
If you had a power surge, your Apple TV probably just needs to be restored.  That logo means you need to plug it into a computer with iTunes installed to restore the device to factory settings.  You'll need a micro-USB cable to do so.  Plug the usb into the apple tv in the micro-USB slot, then into the computer with iTunes already opened.  A screen will appear in iTunes with a button to restore the device.
If you don't have the appropriate cable on hand you can make an appointment at an Apple Store and they'll restore it for you.  Just go to locate.apple.com to find the closest location and make an appointment.  Keep in mind if you can't or don't go to an Apple Store a private repair place may charge for this service.

  • Iphone stuck with apple symbol and wont start up

i updated my iphone and when it finished and went to reboot it just stays stuck on the apple symbol it constantly reboots and will never connect to my laptop i dont know what to do if anyone can help please do

    Hi,
Luca224 & Ingo2711. Thanks for bringing this topic. on 29th Nov. I faced the same problem on my iPhone 3GS 32GB Firmware 3.1.2, iPhone stuck with apple symbol and wont start up. I have tried with 10 Seconds Sleep/wake-up button + home button to reset. But didn't work. Did google about an hour with many blogs. Finally I made a call to 3 iPhone care and spent 30 minutes and explained whatever I have done; iPhone customer care asked me to go to nearby iPhone service center in Sydney. BUT BY LUCK CLICKED ON iTUNE AND GOT THE OPTION FOR ONLINE FORUM FOR APPLE iPHONE. Many many thanks to Ingo2711 who has given the solution link and also thanks to Luca224 , who raised the issue. I feel, this is a common problem with iPhones those who using iPhone 3GS 3.1.2...... but try the link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and thanks to Luca224 & Ingo2711. PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION CAREFULY:
    1. Verify you have iTunes 7.5 or later. Apple recommends using the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    3. Power off the device (Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone or iPod touch to turn off. _+(in my case - red slider didn't appear, but i pressed the Sleep/Wake button until the iPhone went off, finally it was just off... i was frustrated... tried 3 times with more patience )+_
    4. Press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to iPhone. When you reconnect the USB to iPhone, the device should then power on. +_( Do exactly as it says)_+
Note: If you see the message "Charging... Please Wait" or you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least 10 minutes to ensure the battery has some charge and then start with step 2 again. +_(True ... for me it happened 3 times)_+
    5. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. +_( I was nearly frustrated at my 3rd attempet; my thumb was hurting as I was holding the home button for few minutes..... but finally it worked yahooooooooooooooooo...... suddenly changed my decision.... about going to 3/Apple service center)_+
    6. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message:
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, then disconnect the USB cable from iPhone and repeat steps 3-6.
Because you must restore iPhone or iPod touch, iTunes will not recover data from the device, but if it was previously synced on the same computer and the same user account, it should restore a backup (if available). See document HT1414, "Updating and Restoring iPhone Software."
If you are still unable to restore the iPhone using this method, check Apple support for further troubleshooting and/or service options.
Note: If you sync both an iPhone and an iPod touch to the same computer, make sure you select the correct backup to restore your settings from (don't select an iPhone backup if you have an iPod touch and don't select an iPod touch backup if you have an iPhone).
**** ( BACKUP FROM YOUR iTUNES : MAC/PC; AS I GOT MY 95% DATA FROM THERE.... GOOD LUCK)******* IF IT WORKS PLEASE POST YOUR EXPERIENCE....*
    THANKS

    Try this:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Touchwheel 20G IPOD frozen on apple icon after reset

I have reset my IPOD and it is frozen on apple icon. I have it fully charged and plugged into computer...itunes and computer will not recongnize it. Any suggestions?

You may want to try a hard reset which involves holding down the PLAY and MENU buttons for a long time(up to 30 seconds)until the Apple logo appears again. Or you can let the battery drain and let it reset on its own at charge up. If that works, you need to put the iPod into disk mode and connect to the computer.

    Hi, beth.lau.gr.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you have been experiencing issues with your iPhone restarting and showing you a blue screen.  I wont be able to give you an exact answer as to why this is happening.  However, this is the most relevant troubleshooting article for this issue.  This article also provides options to reach out to us via phone for additional assistance.

  • Iphone not starting up, apple icon fading at start up

My iphone 5 will not turn on, the silver apple icon appears for 5 seconds and then thats it, the screen shuts off. when i plugged the phone into a charger or computer, the silver apple icon will appear and then fades out along with the screen display with some small vertical lines running down through the screen this will occur repeatedly until i unplugged my iphone and shut it off my holding the power button.. hopefully someone can give me some guidance on this issue, thanks!

    Hello simmer5555,
Thanks for the question, that definitely sounds frustrating. We'll need to isolate this issue to see if it is hardware related. To accomplish this, we'll need to restore the iPhone with a computer running iTunes.
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you are unable to do so, please see the following:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Note: Restoring your iPhone will erase all contents, however if you have a previous backup you may be able to restore from it afterwards.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Apple TV won't start after 5.3 update. Please help!

I got notified this morning that there was a software update for my Apple TV. I left it to update. I came back and now it won't start when I press the menu button on the remote. I didn't want to unplug the power cable, but my tv is not getting a signal from the ATV, so would it be ok?
    Thanks!

Mine has done that as well but it wants you to connect a cord to the iTunes icon which doesn't make sense to me.

  • HT201274 attempted to download new ios 6 software. wiped out sim card and computer doesn't recognize iphone now. blinking apple icon is only thing I get

Need help with iphone 4. tried to download new software and it zorked sim card and phone. Only get a blinking apple icon. Computer doesn't recognize iphone so I can't restore

    Hello henry lfrommiami,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your iPhone gives you the message "No SIM Card installed" please follow the steps below.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Turn airplane mode on and then off again.
    Restart your iPhone.
Check for a carrier settings update. Go to Settings > General > About. Install any available update.
Remove the SIM card and make sure that it's a valid SIM that your carrier provided. Also make sure that it's not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
A SIM tray that comes with one iPhone model won't necessarily work with a different iPhone model. When you insert the correct SIM tray, the SIM tray should be flush with the device.
If you have another SIM card, insert it. You can use a SIM card from any phone with the same format as your iPhone SIM card. If your iPhone works with that SIM card, contact the carrier that issued your original SIM card.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you still see the issue, contact Apple support.
If you see 'No SIM' alert on iPhone
    Cheers,
    Alex H.

  • Frozen Gray Apple Icon

I have a 15 inch aluminum G4, it won't start up after the Gray Apple icon. It just freezes. Occasionally there is a ticking sound, I'm guessing HD. Can anyone help. The battery is fine.

I'm afraid your hard drive may be dying. And the fact you have no backup says you are between a rock and a hard place. Try to get Prosoft Data Rescue and an external Firewire hard drive. Prosoft Data Rescue will let you recover anything it may be able to see on the hard disk. If it can't, you'll have to consider taking the machine to a data recovery firm. The scratching may be the result of the head scratching the platter. In the future, it is always wise to backup your data. It is not a question of if hard drives will fail, but when, as my FAQ explains:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    Good luck!

  • The screen stays on the apple icon when i start up!!!!!!!!!!!!

....for some reason..when i press the power button...the laptop makes a loud fan kind of noise...eventually the screen will light up and the apple icon will appear...whats weird is that the icon moves down from its original position slighty..its almost not noticeable but with all the restarting ive been doing its become more apparent....after that...its a pretty much a backlit preview of the apple icon. When i try to use the Mac OSX install disc to run the hardware tests (quick or/and extended) ...it comes up with no diagnostic problem....
Ive also tried holding down the option key as i turn the power on and when i choose the the HD icon and press on the right arrow icon ...the apple icon comes up again..and then in a few miliseconds the applen icon changes to a small circle with a line through it...kind of like a barred symbol ..(similar to when an ipod is connected and it tells you not to disconnect)...i have a feeling it may have been a file in prefs or reciepts that i shouldve not erased...
Is there anyway at all to salvage what i have on HD?..and what can i do ..as its so frustrating knowing ive just upgraded my Pro-Tools with so many plug-ins i havent got to use yet....
any help and advice would be appreciated
    Joshua

I thought I would add more to my story in case it triggered someone's memory. The thing that brought me to this thread is that the screen icon did that little hitch thing then stops. It moves about 1/4 inch to the right then gets something like artifacts on the top and left edge. Other things I have tried: booting into target mode, running disk verify, which is fine, disk repair won't work because it won't unmount, booting from the apple hardware cd, which only gets me into open firmware, it won't run the program, reset the open firmware and vram to defaults. The part that almost disturbs me most is that I couldn't get the OS install discs to run, it just gave me a circle with a line across it, and that I had to format the drive while in target disc mode, then install the same way. It rebooted after the install and showed the "bad" computers desktop on the main machine just fine. I just don't get it.

  • HT4623 my iphone only displays apple icon after updating my phone

I updated my OS on my Iphone4, Now all I get is the apple Icon
    Any advice greatle appreciated

Two options for you. First just try holding down the power button and the home button simultaneously until something happens. If that doesn't work, then plug your iPhone into iTunes and see what it says.

  • IPod frozen with apple icon

iPod touch is frozen with apple symbol on screen. How do I reboot or correct. Already tried pressing and holding power and home button at same time, no result.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
