  • My computer can not detect a camera on my iphone 4S

When I connect my phone to my computer, it says it can not detect a camera and I can't download my pictures/videos.  How can I fix this?

gdgmacguy asked for the OS your computer is running, why exactly did you think anyone wanted to know the version of iTunes on the computer?
Seems like there may be a user issue here.  Try replacing the user, see if that resolves the problem.

The Mac Pro - the desktop computer - does not support Airdrop, if that's what you mean.

  • IPhone 4 detected as camera on Win 7

Just a few days ago, my iPhone 4 stopped syncing onto my computer. I tried updating iTunes from version 9.x.x (can't remember) to version 10.0.
Apparently, it did not fix issue and to make it worse, my computer started detecting my iPhone as a USB camera. I tried uninstalling the Windows USB drivers for the "Apple iPhone Digital Camera" and plugging it in again, but my system just reinstalls the same drivers.
I already tried reinstalling iTunes, but I think I'm having the same issues as other people that can't sync their iPhones.
Can anyone please tell me other suggestions as to get my iPhone detected not as a camera?

Kamizerox, I have a similar problem to you as my iPhone suddenly stopped being recognised as a digital camera. I came across a blog which advised to uninstall the Apple Mobile Driver and I did and this solved the problem of the iPhone showing up in Explorer.
This however caused the phone not to be recognized by iTunes. I did all the problem trouble shooting from apple and came to the conclusion I had to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (a bit of a headache !!). This has solved the iTunes problem but am back at square one with the phone not showing up in windows explorer, hence not being able to transfer and photo's taken on the phone.
This seems to be something that has been introduced by something Apple has updated recently....
APPLE, please help.. you keep introducing these bugs in each subsequent release. Please regression test your software before releasing !!.. please can someone advise on the fix for this....
    Thanks

If there is a tick (check) mark by <b<iChat > Video > Camera Enabled, (be careful when checking because selecting the setting toggles it on and off,) try resetting your iChat Preferences:
    • Quit iChat if it is open.
    • Delete your iChat preferences file:
     Finder / Go / Home / Library / Preferences / com.apple.iChat.plist
    • Close those folders and launch iChat again to check for proper functioning.
When you start iChat again after tossing your old .plist files, you will need to reset any preferences that you want to be different from the default values.
For future help with iChat, you might get quicker responses by searching or posting in the Leopard > iChat and iChat Sharing Forum.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Using Lightroom 4.2 - Windows 8 - Canon 5D Mark II - trying to tether but will not detect the camera

Trying to get my Canon 5D Mark II to tether. It is on the "good" list.  But all I can get is "Camera Not Detected".  Computer sees it ok.  But LR seems to be oblivious.

Further infomation.  Computer see the camera when it is connected and switched on.  Shows up as "portable Device".  Canera also see the computer as instead of shutter speed in the viewfinder it flashes busy.  So connection seems quite fine. If curious camera Firmwear is 2.1.2.   Puzzled!

  • Adobe Flash Media Encoder not detecting internal camera

I'm running OS X 10.8.5 and it won't detect the camera. I've installed the latest update from Apple that's suppose to address this error. After installing the new update I reinstalled Adobe Flash Media Encoder and it still doesn't work. The camera is also not being detecting on Skype. Reisntalled this as well. Anyone running into the same problems post update?

Verify that you are using the latest Flash version that works with you system:
          http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
If you need to update, use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.
    Then follow Adobe's instructions here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90893.html
Be sure to uninstall your current Flash player before installing the new one.
Repair permissions again immediately following installation of the updated Flash player.
Be aware that the current Flash Player Preferences can be configured to block your camera in your Mountain Lion Mac's System Preferences.  However, you still configure Flash settings as shown here: http://tinyurl.com/5kjv3

  • IPhoto does not detect Samsung Camera

Here's the info: The camera is a Samsung TL500 and I have a MacBook with OS X Leopard with the latest updates. When I plug in the camera into the USB, the camera recognizes that it is connected but no files from the camera appear on the computer when I turn it on, not in the hard drive, iPhoto, Image Capture or Aperture. Looking for it under any name on Spotlight does not work either because it does not show up as a device anywhere.
I have used my Nikon D40X with this computer and never had problems. I have tried every setting imaginable on the camera to get the computer to recognize it. I know it is a problem with my mac and not the camera because I plugged it into my friend's macbook which has the exact same operating system as mine and it worked. There must be something I can do so the computer detects the camera's SD card as a mass storage device.
Here is what I have tried:
Changed the preferences on Image Capture and iPhoto
Changed different SD cards, both SD and SDHC
Switching the camera settings (PC Software on, Connect Computer, etc.)
Deleting iPhoto, Image Capture and Aperture .plist files
    Repairing disk preferences
Plugged in other USBs (I switched it to different USB ports and also plugged in devices that work, such as my iPod to test if it was the cord. It's not.)
There is no mac driver for the TL500 and the mac is supposed to automatically recognize it (as it easily did on my friend's). I called Samsung tech support and they said it must be a software issue or operating system problem on my mac, which I believe is what I've narrowed it down to also.
I know I can just get a card reader, but honestly one less thing to carry around would be nice and since I know it's possible for my mac to recognize my camera I would prefer it.
Do you have any suggestions for other things I can do on my Mac to figure this out? I have not encountered anyone else with a mac who has this problem with this camera.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Iris,
You have done some very thorough troubleshooting thus far. If neither iPhoto, nor Image Capture detect the camera but another Mac does (using the same cables and media card) then I can only see 2 possibilities:
1.) Hardware issue on the Mac.
__Test this by using a different camera in the same USB port and seeing if is detected. I understand that historically it has worked but things can change overnight. Test it now.
__If you don't have another camera to test with go to Apple > About this Mac > More Info > USB while the camera is plugged in. If the USB port, camera, and cable are all working you should see your camera listed here.
2.) Software issue on the Mac.
__Safe Boot the computer and try iPhoto and Image capture again.
__If safeboot works you may have a startup item that is preventing detection of the camera. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items and remove everything here using the minus sign except 'iTunes Helper'.
__Before troubleshooting any further I would suggest testing in a new user: Creating a new user account
    Hope that helps.

  • Lightroom 5 does not detect my camera, a Nikon D600, in tethered capture. Can someone assist?

Lightroom 5 does not detect my Nikon D600 in tethered capture. I have tried turning the camera off then on and also turned the computer off then on.  I am using windows 7.  Anyone have any ideas?

I am having the same problem with both my D610 and my D800.  Both worked fine in the past.  In both cases, I can import files from the camera via 'Import', so I know the USB connection to the computer is fine, but Neither camera is detected during tether.

  • Iphone Not detected by desktop/itunes/tethering/cameraroll

My iphone is not detected when connected by usb to mac desktop.
I have tried everything in both of the following support pages:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3540
but i have found a work around. The following solves the problem, until the next reboot.
    in terminal..
    chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/
    chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/
    touch /System/Library/Extensions
... then the desktop/itunes etc. detects the iphone. Once i reboot, however, i have to repair the extension permissions again.
notable point: i can also get the iphone to detect if i remove/reinstall AppleMobileDevice.kext... and repair the permissions.
I've tried repairing the entire disk's permissions... reboot ok, but not detecting iphone... repair permissions on AppleMobileDevice.kext=>detecting, reboot... NOT DETECTING! Also noteworthy... if i do the 'workaround' i can logout and login and the iphone is still detected... only on reboot does it become undetectable again. I have done all the basics... swap cables=>no difference... try other pc/mac=>detectable... completed the troubleshooting on the above support pages.
SO... it's obvious that the permissions on AppleMobileDevice.kext get changed/corrupted upon logout/reboot.
    please help!

  • Iphone not detected in itunes at all; detected in Windows as camera only

When my proximity sensor busted on me yesterday the Apple store gave me a completely new phone, except this time they activated it for me. Now I can't get any of my backed-up contents sync'd on account of my lame OS (XP Pro) thinking it's just a camera. I've done the 5 R's more times than I can count, restarted the AppleMoblieService.exe, uninstalled the camera drivers that Windows gave me for the phone. I'm assuming if the phone were yet to be activated it would easily be detected by iTunes but it's too late for that. Or is it? I need help.

I had the same issue with a new replacement iPhone that I just received. I completely uninstalled all Apple software (itunes, quicktime, Apple mobile device software and Apple software update) and then re-installed itunes from a fresh download and it worked fine after that.
