IPhone not recognized in iTunes when using WiFi sync

I have found that my iPhone is frequently not recognized when using WiFi sync.  The only way to sync my phone when that happens is to use the old fashioned way--connect it to my computer via USB.  Then the phone is recognized and syncs fine.  The device shows even when I take my iPhone off power.  But when I close iPhone and later reopen it and plug in my iPhone to power, often it is not recognized.  I've tried everything I can think of but nothing works.
Any ideas?
talbryn

I am having the same problem.  It was working just fine and then just mysteriously stopped showing up in iTunes (my iPad still shows up & syncs via wifi just fine--it is just my iPhone).  Someone please reply soon, this is driving me nuts! Thanks in advance!!

  • Ipod touch 2G not recognized by itunes when using wifi

I can connect to internet by wifi through network set up with Linksys. iPod recognized by network, Norton, and set as Full Trust. Windows Firewall turned off. iTunes does not show connection to ipod with wifi in iTunes. Tried everything on Apple webpage regarding connection. I can't use Documents to Go, Remote, unless connected to itunes by wifi. Any suggestions?

I am not trying to connect the ipod to the internet. it is already connected to it via wifi. I have no problem with that. I am trying to get iTunes to recognize the ipod through wifi, and not through a direct USB connection. Documents to Go will only download to the ipod through a wifi connection to iTunes. It will not download through the USB connection. If that is not possible, is there another app that I can download my Word or Excel documents, and work on them on my iPod?
    Thanks.

  • Iphone not recognized in iTunes when computer is connected to the Internet

I hope someone can help me with this.
When you log onto the computer and connected to the internet, iTunes takes almost a full minute to open and when I plug my iPhone in, the computer dings like it sees it, but it never shows up in iTunes. HOWEVER, if I am NOT connected to the internet, iTunes opens in 4 seconds and the iphone is recognized in iTunes.
So basically iTunes and iPhone only really works if there is no internet connection.
Any one hear of anything like this before?
    Thanks.

No, hadn't tried that. Did, but it didn't work... the loading bar made it a little bit further however it still froze. Not sure if this will help (or even what this means) but this is the error message it displays in the report to send to apple (however it won't even allow me to send it)

  • IPhone 6 does not show in iTunes when using WiFi

My iPhone 6+ shows up in iTunes when connected via USB. But if I disconnect the cable and turn off iTunes and then come back later it does not show up like my iPhone 5 did using OS 7.
I have the option selected in iTunes to "automatically connect using WiFi".
I have tried turning off my phone and restarting iTunes but it does not help.
    Any suggestions?

    Greetings Paul,
It sounds as though you are attempting to sync with iTunes via WiFi, and are running into some complications. After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning iTunes WiFi sync:
    Sync using Wi-Fi
    Open iTunes
To set up Wi-Fi syncing, connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable.
Click the Device button in the upper-right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button first.) If you don't see your device, choose View > Hide Sidebar.
In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi."
When the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when the following conditions are true:
    The iOS device is charging.
iTunes is open on the computer.
The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
While the iOS device is in the left-hand column of iTunes, you can select the content tabs and configure sync options.
Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.
If the iOS device doesn't appear in the Devices section or you can't sync, please try these steps.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

my iphone 4 is not recognized by itunes when i connect to it, wants me to restore to factory settings. do i have to or is there a better way to fix it?

    Howdy AndieKanaras,
It sounds like your iPhone is being recognized everywhere but in iTunes. I would use the troubleshooting for that issue in the following article, named:
If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac

  • My iphone 4 is not recognized by itunes when i connect to it, wants me to restore to factory settings. after i agree , an alert with error 9 stopped the sync. the phone wont start

my iphone 4 is not recognized by itunes when i connect to it and tells me that the phone is in recovery mode, wants me to restore to factory settings. after i agree , an alert with error 9 stopped the sync. the phone wont start

Thanks for the response. There is no cloud icon next to them. All of the songs play on the phone still and no song was purchased through iTunes. I added them manually and tried to remove them manually. According to my iTunes they've been removed but they are still on my phone and working.

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes any more

    iTunes 9.0.2 on a 2006 iMac 2GHz intel duo running OSX 10.5.8
    iPhone 3Gs 32 gig
    iPod (5th gen)
3 external hard drives, all the iTunes library stored on a Mybook 1 TB Firewire drive plugged into iMac direct, not via a Firewire hub.
I plugged my iPhone into the Mac this am, tried to sync the iPhone and got an error message saying that something was wrong with my iTunes.
    Mac then froze.
Finally got the Mac back up after five attempts (eventually, had to unplug everything, including the mains to the iMac, plug in just the power, keyboard and mouse, press and hold power switch for 5 secs then plug in each extra drive when the Mac came back up).
Found something seriously wrong with iTunes as it wouldn't open when clicked on (Force Quit reported app frozen).
Deleted iTunes using AppZap then downloaded iTunes from Apple website.
iTunes now back up on iMac but can't find any of the music files (even when I carefully repoint the iTunes to the correct location for the iTunes library by iTunes/Preferences/Advanced then Change iTunes Media Folder Location). Each entry in the iTunes library now has a black exclamation mark against it,
Also, iTunes doesn't see my iPhone when I plug it in.
Also, when I plug in my iPod, get the error message "The iPod is synced with anotehr iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
    HELP!
By the way, I have TIME MACHINE running to a separate and dedicated HD. Can I not just "roll back" my iMac in the same way I could do with a PC, say selecting the iMac when it was last working fine (yesterday evening)??
Keeping fingers crossed and hoping for an answer....
    Chris

Rather than create another "iPhone not recognized by iTunes" thread, I'll add to this one. I have an iPhone 3G 8GB.
After going through those steps you listed, my Windows XP installation always reverts back to the old Windows Apple iPhone drivers which only sees it as a camera. I've had it set to only pull from the iTunes drivers by specifying "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" in the Hardware Update Wizard. Windows still doesn't like the iTunes drivers stating "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware". This location is the same as you noted: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers" which contains:
    usbaapl.cat
    usbaapl.inf
    usbaapl.sys
    All dated 7/22/2008.
My current drivers for the iPhone in my setup are still the MS drivers, version 5.1.2600.0.
    usbscan.sys
    ptpusb.dll
    ptpusd.dll
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes after update

I recently downloaded & installed the latest update for iTunes and it actually removed iTunes and put and extra (& useless) shortcut for quicktime in my desktop. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled iTunes and quicktime with nor problem. I hooked up the iPhone and downlaoded the latest update for it as well and it crashed during the installation of it. I have since had to reboot on my roomates pc and it will not be come up in iTunes. My computer still recognizes it though. I have gone through all the steps in apples site and microsoft and have no clue what to do now. I use this thing all day every day and need the music and video capablities for "work" purposes. If anyone can help, thanks.

    Symptoms:
iPhone not recognized by iTunes on Windows computer, however an iPod will.
The iPhone CAMERA appears in windows My Computer - but nowhere else.
    Problem:
The Apple iPhone Driver has been replaced by a Microsoft Driver which enables the camera/storage, but did not allow it to connect with iTunes.
    SOLUTION:
From Device Manager, Select the iPhone (under imaging/Portable Devices) and then select "Update Driver", Don't direct it to automatically search for a driver, instead, manually point it to search in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers - It should then "do it's thing" and install the correct apple driver - voila - iPhone is then recognized.

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes, but listed in "My Computer"

    Hi,
I have exhaustively searched the other threads as well as Apple support. I am running Vista 32-bit. I just received a replacement phone and I have literally never had so much as a hiccup recognizing, syncing, etc. on my laptop which is the only computer I have ever used with an iPhone. When I plug in my new phone initially, a pop up appears stating that Device driver is being installed. It will then appear in "My Computer" as a camera, but does not appear in iTunes.
    I have un-installed and re-installed iTunes.
I have un-installed and re-installed the driver for iPhone. When I go to the device manager and attempt to install device driver manually, the message appears "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to intall it. The phone is recognized on my desktop computer and my iPod is recognized on my laptop. So I am assuming it must be something that is setup on my computer that I need to delete, modify, add, etc. Please someone help.

When I start ITunes and plug in my IPhone, ITunes will recognize the IPhone as normal, after about a minute, my IPhone will disappear and disconnect from ITunes. I have the most current ITunes and IPhone versions, I have tried different USB cables and different USB ports with the same result. The IPhone will still be listed as a camera in My Computer but not recognized by ITunes. If I unplug the IPhone and plug it back in, ITunes will recognize it again but drop it after about a minute.
    Any help would be appreciated

It sounds to me like it could be something to do with some power saving mode you have on your computer, such as screen saver or some other power saving mode. Do you have a laptop or desktop PC? as I am more inclined to think that a laptop might cause it if it were running on battery.
The power saving modes/screen saver etc should be in the Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power Options. In the power options box, have a look around in here and temporarily switch off the screen saver, and adjust the various power option values for the various parts of your computer, to the maximum length/or switch that option off so that it isnt used. After these adjustments, restart your computer and load iTunes up and see if the problem remains.
I never put my iPhone in airplane mode when syncing and I have never had your problem. But if my suggestion doesn't work, then it might be worth trying Piperox13 suggestion.

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes, please help!

Yesterday i updated iTunes to its latest version (10.1.1) in order to be able to update my iPhone 3GS to the latest OS version hoping to fix a problem with the phone's volume which goes all the way to low on its own. But ever since i updated iTunes my phone is not recognized by iTunes, yet it is recognize by my PC. I connect the phone, it beeps when connects, and the window that allows me to browse through the phone's camera roll opens, and it shows under My Computer. Yet it never appears under devices in iTunes. I have tried every single step recommended by apple.com without results. Does anyone knows how to fix this??
