IPhone OS 2.2 on iPod Touch no longer behaves nicely with iTunes under Win

Please note the use of the phrase "no longer behaves" as opposed to the phrase "doesn't behave"; this is not a complaint about the iPod Touch not working with Windows for the first time.
I submitted this topic to a developer forum as a consequence of having upgraded to device OS 2.2 - as required for the use of the SDK for iPhone OS 2.2. An Apple person at the developer side of Apple suggested I discuss this over here - you'd think Apple people would talk to each other and share their observations across corporate divisions, but, I guess not. Direct copies of that development forum topic are repeated here... unfortunately the developer forums seem to have disappeared into thin air... here's a link to the topic instead; hopefully the dev forum will reappear soon:
<https://devforums.apple.com/message/15941#15941>

Here's the original dev forum topic texts - with some editing to remove developer forum context (and yes, I've followed the steps to check that Windows drivers and services are installed and running):
I've had my iPod Touch for over a year now, faithfully upgrading to the latest available software versions, naively believing it is is best to do so.
Ever since I upgraded the Touch to OS 2.2 I've noticed that it constantly, but with no consistency related to timing, tries to synchronize when connected to my Windows machine running iTunes 8.0.2.20. It does this with no disconnection/reconnection of the USB connector. It does this whether I set the check box to prevent automatically synchronizing or not. Often iTunes will complain that it cannot communicate with the device suggesting that I reconnect and restore the device (ya right!). Or it will complain that it can't recognize the device or can't find a Disk(!). Occasionally, the iPod Touch just reboots.
I have tried replacing the USB connector, on the off chance that I damaged the cable after upgrading the software to OS 2.2, but this doesn't change the behaviour either.
I had a similar experience with my iPhone, also running OS 2.2. I now only ever leave my iPhone connected to my MacBook, where this kind of sporadic re-synchronization behaviour does not occur. And when I connect my iPod Touch to my MacBook, for downloading developed apps, it does not behave badly like it does when connected to my Windows machine.
I realize that I could just move my entire music library over to my MacBook (after I spend another $250 increasing my disk capacity or adding an external drive) but I'm resisting because I shouldn't have to (so there!
Does anybody else out there see this behaviour. Or does nobody use iTunes on Windows?
Please, no snarky comments about how bad Windows is. After all, if it is that bad why would Apple support an iTunes application that runs under Windows?
... sometime later ...
For some reason this bad behaviour is now happening about once every 30 seconds. Oh wait.. now my iPod Touch is rebooting again <sigh>.
Even though I do not have "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected" checked and I do have "Disable automatic synching for iPhones and iPods" checked, iTunes still starts up when this occurs, and consumes its usual 100% CPU while it starts up... very annoying.
If it hangs around long enough for me to press the "Sync" button I am usually able to complete the synchronization operation. Starting now, I'm going to just recharge my iPod Touch from the walll socket instead of my Windows machine's USB connection.

  • IPod Touch no longer syncs wirelessly with iTunes

My 4th gen iPod Touch (IOS 5.1) has been syncing wirelessly with iTunes on my Mac for months without a problem.
Suddenly, the iPod no longer appears in the "Devices" area of iTunes, as it always has.
"Sync using wireless" is enabled in iTunes
iPod Touch is still connected to my wireless network, and has connectivity
Macbook is connected to my wireless network, and has connectivity (Macbook unibody OS X 10.7.3)
iPod Touch is plugged into an external Apple charger.
If I connect the iPod Touch to the Macbook, then disconnect the cable, the iPod immediately disappears from the "Devices" listing.
In the past it has always remained listed as a Device there.
I am now unable to sync wirelessly. Ideas?

    - Try resetting the iPod, nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - And rebooting the computer

I tried to update to newest version via pc. I got error because i didn't have this recovery program disc that was supposed to come with the purchase so it says, but it didn't and now my ipod touch 8gb won't connect with itunes anymore and is stuck on a screen displaying an itunes icon with a usb icon.

oke i'm not done with the whole thing, but i'm doing that right now. Most of the advice I've already read didn't work and at a certain point it said something about shutting down programs then restart. but i notice that there are some pretty important system things in that list and i don't want to mess up my pc :s i'm not a pc genius... and because i'm dutch and my pc-language is in dutch I often have trouble translating and well... i don't always understand the technical stuff in all the articles -_-

  • Ipod touch no longer showing up in itunes after connecting to laptop.

I downloaded itunes on my new laptop that runs windows 7.  Since I hadn't updated itunes on the pc, I connected the ipod to my pc (which runs windows xp). A screen pops up that basically alerts me that I have a digital camera installed.   I have updated the drivers, I have uninstalled and reinstalled windows and it still shows up as a digital camera and still doesn't show up in itunes.  Now, since I initially had the ipod hooked to the new laptop, I am wondering if I did something during the installation and sync on the laptop that has caused a problem on this desk top.   I am completely ignorant when it comes to electronics.  To summarize what I did.
    1. Downloaded itunes onto laptop that runs windows 7.
2.Plugged in lpod touch to laptop and proceed to authorize both computers for itunes.
    3. Made a playlist that didn't sync with ipod.
    4. Went to the desk top(windows xp) and when I plugged ipod in it ask what camera location did I want to run device. That has never happened before.
    5. Went to windows system folder and found the usbaapl. sys folder.
6 From the ipod camera device  I opened the device manager, found the ipod under digital imaging..
7.Right clicked ipod camera and update driver,
8.Checked  install from a list or specefic location.
9.Search for best driver in these locations.  I then UNCHECKEd search removable media.
10.Copied and pasted the driver information in the box and clicked next.
    11.Saw ipod device driver.
After all of that Ipod still shows up as camera and will not sync!!! Help

    Start here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
I would first remove and reinstall all the Apple software by:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
The drivers in windows that sees the iPod as a camera is different that the drivers that see the iPod in iTunes.

  • IPod Touch (1st Gen) not syncing with iTunes 11.0.4

I own an iPod touch 1st generation and for some reason it won't sync music properly with the latest version of iTunes. This problem has been going on for about 6 months. I have found some way around it but it involves wiping the iPod entirely and then syncing it with my iTunes. This, however, is a very long process and I want to know if there is a solution. I do understand that this is a very old iPod (c. 2005) but I've had it from new and other than this problem it works perfectly fine and has a decent battery life. I don't really care much for apps I just want to be able to listen to my music on the train without having to fork out for a new iPod or iPhone.

    I would try:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

The only way is to connect the iPod to a computer with iTunes  and restore. It may be necessary to place the iPod in recovery mode in order to restore. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • IPod touch disabled plus an issue with iTunes

I have a several issues so if someone can walk me through the process of each one I would be most greatful.
My daughter has an iPod touch which for some reason has decided it will only work when not plugged in every now and then!  If anyone knows why this is, I am all ears!
Next issue, my laptop died and so I have a new one and I have installed iTunes on the new one but I need to somehow magically transfer everything from a dead machine to the new one without losing it all (iPhone and 3 iPods!).  I have posted about this on the communities under a seperate question.
Finally, the same iPod device has for some reason been disabled for 22 million minutes.
    So:
    *  How do I get iTunes to transfer everything off the devices without losing it all?
    *  How do I get the iPod to work with the new iTunes (even if it means losing everything off this one) since it wants a passcode?
    *  How do I reset the iPod since it now won't turn back on at all at the moment?
    *  How do I sort the disabled iPod issue?
    Thank you
    Hilary

    Disabled
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
and then restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • HT1459 ipod touch 2nd generation not connecting with itunes when plugged in

    thank you

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears.
    Next try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • IPod Touch 4th Generation wont sync with iTunes on Windows 7

Ok. I am going to make this quick. I just bought a new ipod off amazon from Apple. its a 35Gb 4th Generation ipod touch. I am able to sync my itunes library sometimes. Only SOMETIMES. I have about 1200 song on it now. But evertime i plug my ipod into my PC. iTunes comes up, but freezes up. itunes works fine when the ipod is not connected, but when it is, it freezes up. I can leave it for about 5 minuets and it will unfreeze and i will be able to use itnes, but itunes wont show my ipod is connected. AT ALL. I did the diagnostic, but that freezes up to. Only sometimes will it sync. I updated to the latest version. I think this is either a issue with itunes or the ipod. because my brother has the new nano, and his syncs perfectly fine everytime. Only on my account on windows 7 with MY $300.00 ipod touch will it not work. Anyone help me out here.
This is what i have done so far:
Reset ipod via sleep wake and home key while connected < no fix
Ended any process in the background of windows, that may affect itunes < No fix
updated to latest itunes version and ipod version < No fix
That's all i could think of. This evidently is sync issue.
    ANY HELP?

    I would try these:

  • Can't update ipod touch to vers 4.0 with itunes 9.1.1

    Hi folks,
Itunes tells me that new software (vers. 4.0) is available for my ipod touch but when I click UPDATE it mistakenly informs me that my itunes software (9.1.1) is up to date. I want to update the ipod touch software NOT the itunes software. Anyone else have this problem? Solution?
    thanks for any help

Ok, to start with, iTunes version 9.1.1 cannot sync or work with iOS 4. You first have to download iTunes 9.2 in order to do so. If iTunes was wanting to download the latest version of itself, let it in order to upgrade to iOS 4. Or if it thinks it is the latest version, go to the Apple.com and download iTunes 9.2 . Once that's done, just download the iOS 4, sync it. And you're good. (warning, you may come into issues with the upgrade to iOS 4. just read one of my other posts that may solve it... or just keep trying till it works or contact Apple.) Hope this helped
