IPhone recognition by Windows very erratic

Hi all,
I don't know whether this is an iPhone issue or a Windows iTunes issue, but I'll try iPhone.
I built myself a new Windows 7 PC last weekend, having used iTunes on Windows 7 on my previous one with very few problems at all. When I installed iTunes, it didn't recognise my iPhone when I plugged it in. So, I tried uninstalling everything iTunes and Apple related, rebooting, and then reinstalling everything again. This time, iTunes recognised my iPhone, and it synced fine, so I thought "job done".
When I next turned my PC on, iTunes didn't recognise my iPhone again, and this is the pattern it seems to have adopted: if I uninstall and then reinstall iTunes (and it only has to be iTunes, rather than anything else), it will find it, but then fail to after a PC restart.
On the Device Manager, Apple iPhone shows up under Portable Devices, and Apple Mobile Device USB Driver shows up under USB controllers. I've tried removing both devices, and deleting the drivers, then disconnecting and reconnecting to let Windows install the drivers again, and that makes no difference.
Under My Computer, it shows up as a portable device (with an iPhone icon, not a camera), and I can view the photos I've taken; under Devices and Printers, I have two "Unspecified" devices - an Apple iPhone, and Apple Mobile Device USB driver, and they are both represented by the "generic device" icon (white block with a green LED on it).
I've followed all the advice listed here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 - but I'm still having no luck.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

I can't offer any solution as I'm having exactly the same problem.
I suspect it's Windows 7 and / or 64 bit related as I've got iTunes 10.7 on Windxows 64 and Vista 32 machines, having upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS 6. The Vista machine sees my iPhone in iTunes but the Windows 7 machine doesn't.
The iPhone shows up in Computer on Windows 7 and I can browse it OK.
If I go to the unsecified Apple iPhone, I can right mouse click and browse iPhone from there.
But I can't get into iTunes to reinstate some of the files I deleted last week to make room for a wireless intsall of ios 6.
If anyone has a solution, please advise.

Are you using the front or rear camera? When you say they are low quality, are you referring to file/pixel size, or how the picture looks? As far as upside down, how are you holding the phone? Older versions of Windows have issues reading the Metadata from the pictures and will not display the same.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

Gmail push notifications very erratic on iPhone and iPad

The push notifications on my iPhone and iPad have become very erratic but ONLY for my gmail account. My work exchange account is working fine, in fact flawless.
Symptons: I will receive an email that I can clearly see on gmail.com, but will wait for my iPhone and iPad to notify me and nothing. I'l wait several minutes and still nothing. I wake my iphone and check mail and have to manually pull down to refresh my email. It's not all the time though, it's very sporadic. For instance, if I wait long enough they will eventually show on my lock screen, but it can be several minutes to a half hour or more.
I only noticed this the past few days and I'm almost positive that I just upgraded both my iPad and iPhone to 6.1.2 just last week. I am not sure if I can sum this up to "happening right after the upgrade to 6.1.2" or not. However, it does seem to be a strong coincidence that I just upgraded and now I'm having the problem.
I have both my iPhone and iPad notifications set up the same way for both my email accounts and both have always worked fine and both have become erratic within the last few days. I have not changed any settings. I notice this both when I'm on cellular and when I'm home on my wifi network.
Is this something others are experiencing? Strange that it's both my iPhone and iPad and no settings have changed.

I'm not sure if any of you use the gmail exchange support which WAS the only way you could sync email and calendar events and get push notifications for years. Well it's going away, actually it's gone for new sync users. For instance, you can not set up a new phone the way I have my phone set up if you are setting up a new sync account. ...clearly states that if you were an existing sync customer, you should have no problems. Well, I guess they are sort of trying to "push" people to the new CardDAV. I guess I'll bite and try it out tonight. I am a very old google sync user (iphone 3G, 4 and 4S) and have not changed anything, so from this article I should be fine. Well, I'm not.
I'll definitely try the "new" way and let you all know tonight (or tomorrow morning) how it's going.

Support for exchange active sync was dropped by Google for free accounts on Jan 30 of 2013. Apple was prepared for that since November of last year, you can check date on that article.

Since Gmail still using Card Dav protocol, it allows new devices to sync Contacts. Google mail account takes care of emails and calendars sync by itself. It does have to do with push (you dead on), cause exchange supports push on whole other level, but it has nothing to do with your case. The information that I gave in my first post still stands. It looks like you think you know more then all people that responded to you, but (sorry, still feeling entitled to my humble opinion) you will see your push fixed by itself. Even funnier if you will make some change and it will coincide with google server back online. You will come here and provide us with your "fix".
Perhaps it will be something like "I just changed show emails from 100 to 200."

The way it works is simple. We do not realize, but google server actually knows what device is connecting to their server to pick mail. I had to replace my wife's ipad on Feb 7. Even when I restored from the icloud back up that for all intents and purposes made that ipad very similar - the account was still there, but simple gmail without exchange. Deleting account and re adding as exchange didn't provide solution. It just showed up as gmail. They even changed server name from m.google.com to google.com.
BTW it is quite possible that aTanasi's trick will fix the problem. I had to start running yahoo and gmail apps running on the background. I do not use them, but if there is a problem with account, like security kicks in harder, app is more capable to address that issue and informs me of what is wrong. I still find native mail app more pleasant, but thanks and credit to aTanasi.

Remote control iPhone 4 via Windows Laptop/Desktop

Hello,
I was wodnering if there was a way to remotely control my iPhone via my Windows Laptop? My speaker system is across the room which is hooked up to my iPhone, so everytime I want to change to a specific song or skip a song, I would have to get up and manually change it.
I have seen apps in the store that allow you use the iPhone control another apple device, or use your iPhone as the remote. However in this case, I want to use my computer as the remote.
Anyone have any ideas or tips? Thanks in advance.

Gave it a look, tried all the troubleshooting. My IP addresses are the same, so now I really don't understand. I'm just super confused. If it hadn't ever worked, I would just write it off as my university network being too strict... but now that it has worked once and really... nothing changed... I am just very confused.

I would like to receive email on the iphone with attachments and then sync the attachments to a Windows XP PC with Outlook 2007 without Outlook 2007 having to connect to the mail server itself and having to separely download the attachment. Is this possible?
I have only tried one pdf file which downloaded wonderfully to the iPhone. I synced to the PC without the PC being connected to the email account. This also worked except that when I tried to open the attachment on the PC I got a message that the mail wasn't fully downloaded. When I went on=line on the PC, it downloaded the attachment. I would love to have this option because I can't access some email accounts from my corporate computer.

No it is not. The only information synced regarding email accounts is the email account information only and this is in one direction only - from your computer to the iPhone via iTunes.

My 2011 Imac 27" has been crashing and running very erratically and slowly. The only change has been the update to 10.8.1, I will paste the consol kernal panic report. Is there a software conflict?

Hi, first time posting on the forum. I own a 2011 IMAC i5 with 12gb of ram 27 inch. Over the last five days the computer has been crashing and running very erratically. When the computer has crashed the entire computer has become unresponsive and frozen, requiring a reboot or two. At other times the computer has slowed way down and the dreaded spinning beachball has appeared and the computer takes its sweet time trying to process something. Iphoto has also crashed independently when the beahball will not disappear. THE entire system is running way below its usual stellar quad performance. I have run a ram test and everything has come back clean, I have fixed any broken permissions, and deleted any newly added software (starcraft2). There is over 250Gb of hard drive free and the activity monitor shows no unusual processes. The computer automatically updated it self recently to 10.8.1 has this caused a conflict with some software? Or is there a deeper problem?
Below are the console reports. There are also reports for unversalaccessd , mdworker, Isregister, loginwindow, iphoto, DMproxy which can be supplied.

I suspect you may have a corrupt photo or image that is causing the sync to fail or quit. You might want to try removing all of your photos by deselecting them in iTunes then sync - and try adding them by each sub-folders until you are able to nail down which sub-folder of photos, that causes the sync to stop or gives you errors.

I've read as many threads on these forums and as many kb's as I could find, but I sttill can't figure it out. I have 2 iPhones. Let's call them, "wife" and "hubby". I want to have two separate iTunes, one for each of the phones. Hubby is the Windoows User. I don't want to set up a different Windows User for wife.
Hubby was the original iPhone. When I plug it in, iTunes recognized it has Hubby's iPhone. Then I unplug Hubby and close iTunes. I plug in Wife but iTunes stll comes up with Hubby under Devices and syncs Hubby's iTunes to Wife's iphone.
I've tried using the shift key when I open iTunes to set up two separate .itl files to no avail.
Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?

What happens if you rename the iPhone "Wife" when it shows up as "Hubby", then choose a different set of apps/playlists to sync with? iTunes is supposed to be able to manage multiple devices, each with their own selection of content. Perhaps you "restored" "Wife" with a backup from "Hubby" when you first set things up which is now causing confusion.
To create a new library press and hold down the shift key as you click the icon to start iTunes and keep holding shift until asked to choose or create a library. You need to use the same technique to switch back.

IPhone 4 and Windows 7 64 Bit

Hi there,
i got a Problem with my iphone 4 and my os windows 7 porfessional 64 bit.
Last week my pc crashed and after 12 hours to find the problem (it was the memory... bloody things) i have allready deleted everything and partitioned the hd new.
So after rescuring my pc and installing everything i downloaded the newest version of itunes64 and installed it and tried to connect my iphone. the first thing i mentioned when i plug in my iphone was that windows can´t find drivers but my iphone was found in itunes. i can´t sync music or manual put it on the iphone but i could sync my apps
in the device manager the iphone is mentioned as iphone but under "other devices" and i can´t get it in the explorer. so i can´t get the pictures from my iphone
So after a few hours and tring asking the crystalball called google
( allready tried extracting the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi out of itunes64 installer and tried to direkt the driver to that folder but windows can´t find any driver in there)
i´m running out of options. So the last thing i will try is this community.

Okay, I'll tackle the drivers issue first. If it doesn't want to load the drivers, you will need to uninstall iTunes completely and then reinstall it. You need to follow the instructions in this support document exactly. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
After reinstalling it, start iTunes and then reconnect the iPhone. It should install the drivers from there.
As far as pictures, the only photos that will show up in Explorer are ones in the camera roll. If you are talking about wanting to get the photos that you had originally synced from the computer to the iPhone, you will have to look into 3rd party software to get that. Touchcopy works on the Windows systems.
Another question. When you look in Device Manager, do you see any errors, red x's or the yellow exclamation points?

Making sure everything is allowed through firewall
Rebooting phone/laptop/router
Disabling ipv6
Disabling all networks except the one curently on
Re-installing iTunes
Restoring iPhone
No luck with any of those unfortunately so i just thought i'd see if anyone else is still without wifi sync after trying those as well and if you ever found a fix, thanks.

I just wanted to leave a note that it's working now. I'm not sure if it was the latest iTunes update that got it working or that i decided to start a new library instead of using the one i had backed up on Windows 8 (it didn't occur to me to check using the old library when i re-installed iTunes). But if anyone is having this problem, it might be worth trying again with a new installation of iTunes to see if the latest update works for you, and if not, try using a fresh library instead of a backup (by fresh library i mean discard your old library completely and start a new library, not just restore as new iPhone, a whole new library).

If your iPhone is recognized by the computer, but not seen by iTunes, you may need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service, as described in this article -

Once iTunes recognizes the iPhone you should be able to sync it with iTunes. See this article
