IPhone semi-recognized in Windows 7

Hi,
Sorry to exhaust this subject of iPhones not properly installing on Windows 7, but I can't seem to find advice for my specific situation. I'm running a Windows 7, 64 bit with an iPhone 4s. I have Apple Mobile Device USB Driver installed, and it shows up when I plug in my iPhone and iTunes opens and my iPhone successfully syncs. When the iPhone is plugged in, two icons appear in the Devices and Printers window: The Apple Mobile Device USB Driver and "iPhone" with an error, which names the device "MTP USB Device." I also get the classic "device driver not successfully installed" message. Is there a way to get the iPhone to show up in Windows explorer? I just want to drag photos off it it...
Thank you for any help/suggestions!

Take a look at this Apple document -> iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Skip down to number 4, "Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed" and follow along with the steps continuing to sections 5 and 6, if that doesn't do it.

My iPhone 5 was not being recognized by two different computers, windows 7 and windows 8.1.  My wife's iphone 5 had no issues.  I followed all the advice on-line from re-installing iTunes, resetting my phone ( as new and backed up from cloud), device manager troubleshooting, re-install drivers, different cables, different ports.  Oddly enough in the fianl analysis my iPhone only gets recognized when the cable is insert in one way into the phone.  Flip the cable and it goes straight to "unknown device".  Doesn't matter which cable I use, it only works on one side.  My wife's works both ways.  I can't explain it, but there it is.  I put a dot with a permanent marker on the cable to identify which side goes up.

  • Iphone not recognized by Windows 7

iPhone 4 no longer recognized by Windows 7, 64-bit desktop. The iTunes diagnostic shows everything working satisfactorily, and Windows Control Panel, under Devices and Printers, shows the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver". The Properties for that device show the driver as working properly. However, when I plug the iPhone into a USB port (using both a port and cable that formerly worked fine with this iPhone), Windows attempts to install a driver, and fails. The resulting message is "MTP USB Device Device driver software was not successfully installed". Further investigation gives me a message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".

This problem is very simple to solve. NO UNINSTALLATION REQUIRED.
If your experiencing with this problem, please follow the steps below:
    1. Completely Turn-OFF your Apple Device (iphone, ipod touch or ipad)
    2. Connect your Apple device to your windows PC or laptop USB.
    3. Once it is connected, your apple device will turn-ON automatically.
    4. Once it is ON, Enter your password or if you have. You will notice "Installation of driver" at the right side of your task bar. (icons located below at the right side of your monitor near the clock)
    5. While it is installing, wait for the Notice "Failed Installing the driver".
    6. Do not close the message.
    7. Right click My Computer and click Manage. Click Device Manager and right click "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" then click Scan for hardware Changes"
    8. After that, you will notice, windows will again "Install the driver".
    9. Driver Installation Successful.
    10. Right now, you can open and view your pictures from your Apple device in your computer.
Note: The good thing of this solution is you can apply it in any windows OS computer where you get an error or problem once you connect your Apple device in it.
    I hope this will help.

  • Iphone not recognized by windows explorer

I've read previous posts on this but no luck.  I have never had a problem with this before.  I'd plug my iphone 5 into my laptop, open Windows Explorer, then drag/drop files into my computer from my phone.
Then I purchased a Canon camera with wifi for my office.  My IT guy tried to no avail to get the wifi to work.  In the process, my Windows Explorer will no longer recognized either the Canon camera or my iphone.  I am running out of space on my phone.  I emailed myself all the videos I could so I could delete them but many photos and my larger videos are stuck on there.
My phone works great in itunes, I have no problems with my USB drives otherwise.
I've tried some fixes I've read about: stop/start Apple Device Service.  I went to device manager and explanded the list as someone had suggested.  They said to right click on "imaging devices" to then uninstall a driver but imaging devices was not in the list.
My IT guy says the drivers are gone and I need a new hard drive for my Dell laptop which I have to pay for.
    This is very frustrating.
Please offer any assistance you can.
    Thank you.

Start with step 3 - Verify that Apple Mobile Device Service Support is installed

  • Iphone not recognized by windows or itunes

Can anyone please help me figure out how to resolve this issue?  My iphone 4 is not recognized by my PC.  My OS is by Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.  I tried the various "device not recognized" troubleshooting to no avail.  I tunes is up to date.  I even turned off my security sw for a bit to see if there was a third party conflict...all to no avail.  There has got to be someone out there who has the smarts to show me how to fix this.  Please advise and many thanks in advance!

    Jason,
I understand why Apple doesn't cover the water damaged phones under the warranty, but do you know why they don't fix them if the customer is paying? Is it just because they want the people to buy another phone so they can make more money? I guess I just don't get it.
The cost to repair a device and all of its components is more than the cost of a new device.
Other than the article I linked above, this is the part of the warranty/legal forms that would apply:

  • IPhone not recognized by windows vista 64 bit

Hello, I use vista home premium 64 bit and I used to be able to sync both my iPod shuffle and iPhone 3GS in iTunes.
My pc does not recognize either device and there seems to be no USB mass storage device in device manager.
I have reinstalled iTunes , updated any drivers and such with no luck.
I have reinstalled vista and still can't get things to work.
Both devices are recognize by all of other pc I have access to such as a friends , work pc , moms laptop, etc.
Those pc use either xp or windows 7. Maybe it's just a vista issue but as I said before. It used to work just fine with vista.
I am at a loss as to why my own pc won't recognize these devices.

  • TS1538 iPhone 4S recognized by Windows but not iTunes.

I have been trying to sync my iPhone 4S. I connect to my WIndows 7 laptop and the PC recognizes it, but iTunes won't start. I manually started iTunes and, before I even connect to the PC, iTunes tries to sync and then I get an error that says it can't connect and that I need to restore my iPhone. My iPhone is working perfectly. I followed the direction in the troubleshooter and uninstalled and then reinstalled iTunes. I rebooted several times. No change. The very same thing happens. I also checked that the correct services are runniing and stopped/started them. Don't know what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure both iTunes and your iPhone are up to date.
Also easiest way to find what device is causing the issue is by connecting the iPhone to another pc/mac that has iTunes but do not sync. If the iPhone can be recognised on another computer then it is an issue with your computer and vice versa.

  • Iphone not recognized in windows vista

Windows Vista 64 will not recognize Iphone in itunes; i have updated to most recent itunes version, switched cables, switched usb ports, turned off virus protection. Error message is windows could not load the installer for wpd

I'd like to add to my previous post that I just tried to completely remove and reinstall:
    *- iTunes*
    *- Apple Software Updater*
    *- Apple Mobile Device Support*
as from article at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923, and I made a full restore of the software (firmware) on my iPhone, but Vista still doesn't recognize the iPhone as a camera or any other kind of portable device.

  • My iphone 2g is not recognized by windows 7

i have an original iphone that is no longer recognized by windows.  I only have windows 7 running at this time.  Windows recognizes that "something" is there, but it cannot identify the iphone and disables it.  I don't think this phone has been updated to whatever the most recent OS is for the 2g.  The phone won't charge on any pc running iTunes either and can only be wall-charged now.
    Any ideas??

I would try updating iTunes first and then try again.
