Iphone Voice Memo Sync Solved?

Recently got an Iphone 3GS. Couldn't get the iphone voice memos to sync to Itunes, except once by trimming the memo and that seemed a fluke.  I didn't want to go through the steps of consolidating my itunes library which has worked for some, as I didn't want all that duplication going on. I found that once the Iphone is connected, there is ANOTHER box that needs to be checked that Apple has not mentioned as far as I know: The name of your iPhone in the Artists box.
1. Connect Iphone to computer. Note that I do not automatically sync my Itunes or iphone but manual only; others may differ.
2. At the top of the Summary page, select the Music tab which opens the music page, at the top of which is a box that you check called Sync Music. (That 'sync music' is just a setting, not the 'sync' button at the bottom that actually syncs.)
I make sure that under that the 'selected playlists artists albums and genres' is selected, then below that is checked the 'include voice memos'...
3. Under that you should see a list of categories playlists, artists, etc. You can check the box 'Voice Memo' under Playlists, but don't know if this is crucial. There is another Voice Memos box under 'Genre' which you can click but also don't know if it's crucial.
4. Most importantly, go to the Artists list, scroll down and find the name you use for your Iphone. THAT'S the box that seems most important. Then with all those boxes checked the computer may request you to hit the 'apply' button at bottom right for those changes, then click the Synch button on the bottom right of the page and all voice memos go from iphone to iTunes.
To get them out of Itunes for backup go to the left hand column in the Itunes window where it says 'PLAYLISTS' (not the playlists on the music page, but the heading in the left hand column usually below the 'STORE' and 'DEVICES' headings.) This PLAYLISTS heading shows the iTunes folders on your computer, not your iphone, scroll down and through the playlists until you come to 'Voice Memos'. Open that and then you can drag the voice memos onto your desktop like any other itunes file. (If you mistakenly open the Voice Memos folder under the Devices heading, that's your Iphone, and you will not be able to drag those files onto your desktop. Ideally disconnect your iphone before doing this.)
I would like to know if this works for other than the two MacBook Pros I tried it on; note that this presumes your iphone name will show up in the Artists list; if not that may be another problem.

  • Syning iphone voice memos to itunes

I am having trouble syncing iphone voice memos to itunes. I am selling my iphone and need to ship it off, but I really want the vocie memos. I went to the music tab and checked include voice memos. I have backed up and synced my phone after, and I cannot get the voice memos playlist to appear on itunes. I have emailed some to myself, but some are too large. Please help

Yes, you can! You need an app on your Mac called Phone View. Download it, check the "show all files" option(or words to that effect) in prefs, and look under voice memos. Be careful not to delete any iphone system files, but if you follow the instructions you will easily see a section for voice memos. Drag the relevant .mov (this seems to contain the sound data) onto the desktop and then into itunes.
Quick, wireless, and no sync required. I did this for one voice memo of a conference that got stuck on the phone, i.e., it wouldn't sync in itunes, and it also wouldn't play from with the voice memo app on my phone.
    Hope this helps.

iphone voice memos does not stay open

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • IPhone Voice Memos Won't Sync

I have an iPhone 3GS and an iMac operating on OS X 10.6.8. When I sync my iPhone to the iMac, all of my voice memos transfer, except key memos dated before a certain date or 5/4/11. I can't figure it out. I've looked through all my preferences in iTunes and on the iPhone but without any luck. Any clue what the problem may be and how to fix it?
    Thank you...

I got a way around it. It's a bit long but works. Email the memo to yourself and then download it. Then open it on itunes and find it inside the Music folder (top left). Then copy and place it wheneve you want. It's the only way I could managed to move them from the memo library to my prefered playlist (despite ticking the include voice memos box). For some anowying reason memos are not allowed to be moved around!

  • Voice Memos sync to itunes, but don't sync back to iPhone

When I sync my iPhone with iTunes, the "Voice Memos" playlist gets created and I get my memos into iTunes just fine. However, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that when you delete a memo from iTunes it should be deleted from your iPhone on the next sync, and also that you should be able to add memos into iTunes and they sync into your iPhone. Not only does this not work for me, but when I delete a memo from iTunes and then sync my iphone, I get an error saying my iPhone couldn't sync, error code 13019. Once I delete the memo from the iPhone MYSELF, the iPhone syncs okay.
Incidentally, I also find that even if I name a memo on the iPhone, when I sync it into iTunes it comes through with just the date as the title, not the name I gave it on iTunes.
Is anyone else noticing this behavior with Voice Notes? I did actually try restoring my iPhone and it didn't chance anything.

Seens to be fixed with iTunes 11.2.2.

  • IPhone 5s to Macbook iTunes Voice memo sync??

I have an iPhone 5s and recently purchased a Macbook Air. When I had a PC, my iPhone and iTunes always synced perfectly, including the voice memos, which would save to my library in the designated playlist. Now, when I connect my iPhone to my Macbook and iTunes opens, it will sync my device, but the Voice memos will not transfer from iPhone to my library. This is an issue because I want to download these large files (lectures) to my computer so I can delete them off of my iPhone. Please help!

  • Voice memo sync with iphone4 IOS 5.1

    Dear all,
I cannot sync my iphone 4 voice memos to itunes 10.6,  older voice memos, before FEB 2012, do  appear in voicememoms playlist in itunes but the newer ones do not.
    i am using ihone4 with IOS5.1
    Can you help?

You're gonna need to restore your phone as a new device, then restore from backup & sync your content back to your phone. So, if you backup to iCloud you can use any computer to restore the phone. Once you get the congratulations screen, restore from your iCloud backup & re-download your iTunes content.
Once unlocked, your phone will remain unlocked forever.
In theory. you should be OK. Me? I like to have a local backup stored on my computer, as well as all of my content stored locally on my computer. That way, if anything does go wrong, the fix is easy/simple.

  • Iphone voice memo issue?

So when I record anything with my iphone I give the voice memo a name by taping the blue arrow at the end of the recording, however when I sync them to my itunes the name does not sync and only the date and time...! does anyone know how can I fix this or if this is even possible?

    Hi, Stanley Chong.
I would start by closing all applications open in multitasking and power cycling the device.  The article below will walk you through the process of forcing applications to close.  Test recording Voice Memos after processing these steps.

  • Voice memos sync not shown in iTunes

I am trying to sync my voice memos to iTunes a couple of times. They are not shown. I haven't updated my iPhone 5s to the latest software yet. It's still running iOS 7; my iTunes was updated though. Does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thank you!!!

You need to open iTunes on your computer. Then select music library from the left-hand. Then in the search window on the top right of the screen type in voice memo . The voice memo should now appear in the list is available music in the middle of the iTunes screen

  • Can someone please explain Voice Memos syncing?

    Hi All,
I'm really, really, really confused about Voice Memos, and syncing them with iTunes. My setup is an iPhone 5, and a MacBook Pro Retina 13". My wife also has an iPhone, and we both sync them to iTunes on the Mac, including backing them up to the Mac, not iCloud backups. Since I signed up to iTunes Match not so long ago, I've noticed that the Voice Memos on the phones and iTunes are literally all over the place! And it's really confusing.
I assumed it was as simple as it really should be (whatever you record to the Voice Memo App on the iPhone simply gets added to iTunes whenever it's synced, and as you create more and more voice memos they just keep adding to somewhere in iTunes, along with the names you gave them when you recorded, or the name it's given by the App if you choose not to name it). It would be brilliant if that's how it worked, but for some reason it's incredibly confusing and complicated to work out where files are, why names change, why duplicate files appear, disappear, move altogether even!!?!!
There are literally so many questions I have about things I'm going to have to just list the main ones below and hope someone somewhere can shed some light for me!! I'm a songwriter by the way hence the large number of voice memo recordings.
    Cheers in advance,
    Phil
The 3 main questions I have...
    * If I name a recording on my phone then sync it, iTunes gives the file the same name (great!). Why then if I rename the file in the Music library in iTunes and sync the phone again does the name NOT change on my iPhone? Surely keeping things in sync across devices and software makes more sense than leaving older names on one thing and newer somewhere else?
    * I have a list of Voice Memo recordings on my iPhone, that's the only place I've ever recorded the memos. So why, when I sync the phone, do those voice memos not just appear in one long list called Voice Memos under the "On My Device" list? I have a Voice Memos list that has about 13 voice memos on it, but on my iPhone there are hundreds... why aren't they all lumped in with the Voice Memos list? As I say I've only ever recorded these memos on my various iPhones all of which has been created from backups of the very first iPhone I had (3GS).
    * Why do Voice Memos my wife has created on her iPhone appear in my Voice Memo App on my iPhone? At no point have I ever ticked anything she's recorded and asked it to appear on my phone? And similarly, why have 10's of my recordings appeared on her iPhone? Surely when you sync the individual phones they keep the Voice Memos separate to each phone?
    * I have a list of voice memo recordings on my iPhone all named the same date and time, roughly 50 I'd say, yet they are all different previous recordings I've made. Any idea how this happened?
PS. I'm aware that the likelihood is it's some sort of user error, and this isn't all Apple's fault, so please be polite in your response, as I'm in no way "Apple bashing", I just want this one confusing area cleared up for me!

    Hi,
    Many thanks for replying, but I'm not sure I've explained myself very well, or not enough for you to be able to understand the various problems I'm having. In answer to your questions;
    1. Yes I understand that if I rename a voice memo in iTunes it then can't find the same file on the phone. I'm just wondering why that is the case? If I rename the file in the voice memo app on the phone it alters it when syncing to iTunes. So why not the other way round? Surely keeping things in sync not out of sync is the idea? If I alter a Note in my phone, then my Mac, then my iPad (the same Note) it renames it on all my devices keeping them in sync. Why is this not the case for voice memos? Or is there a setting I've not got right?
    2. No we use the same iTunes account on my Mac. The iTunes accounts is signed in to my Apple ID only. The voice memos keep getting mixed up between phones. Yet nothing else does. The music we've synced, the apps we purchased individually, the ringtones, books, etc. They all stay separate across the two devices when syncing. But voice memos for some reason keeping moving across to each others phones. Why?

  • IPhone Voice Memos Interrupted By Incoming Calls

I notice that every time I use my Voice Memos software on the 3G(s), if an call comes in, the Voice Memo stops recording and I won't know it till I look at the phone later. Is there ANY way to stop that for that not to happen and you can have perhaps the calls go directly into voice mail so that the Voice Memo feature doesn't get interrupted? It's useless to me otherwise.
    Thanks for anyone's input!

The voice recorder application - just like every other iPhone application, native or 3rd party - will shut down when you receive a phone call. The iPhone operates under the assumption that the device is first and foremost a telephone.
As far as work arounds go, you can always put the phone in airplane mode when you need to use the voice recorder app uninterrupted. This will send all incoming calls directly to voicemail.

  • IPhone voice memos can't be deleted

I have unchecked voice memos and eleted others from my itunes library, but they still show in Voice Memos on the iphone (when viewed from itunes. How do I get rid of them from the iphone. I think this is why I have 4GB of OTHER cluttering my iphone memory

Thanks, selecting Manually Manage allowed me to delete the errant voice memo files. Curiously, it did not delete within the general Music folder so had to dlete from there as well. I think they are gone, but saw no reduction in space used. Have to look somewhere else for that.

  • Why my iPhone Voice Memos sometimes randomly stop recording

    Hello everyone,
I'm using my iPhone 6 Plus Voice Memos app to record my lecture in the university, the problem is sometimes the app stop recording and this is causing me major problem.
Note that I'm putting my iPhone on Airplain mode to avoid stopping the recording if someone called me.
The WiFi is sometimes ON while recording, but in all cases the Airplain mode is on
at the end I need to record my classes lectures for more then 60 minutes normally sometimes 160 minutes.
    Thank you.

    Hey there Al-Shatti Jr.,
If your Voice Memos are still unexpectedly not recording after some time, I would recommend quiitting the app itself first:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Iphone voice memo xfer to ipad from macbook .. why not?

I've started using voice memos on my iphone to sketch out riffs and song ideas, they transfer just fine to my macbook pro and show and play just fine in itunes. I use my ipad to store itune playlists off of my macbook and have no difficulty playing. But for the first time, I added a voice memo to a playlist but the voice memo will not transfer to the ipad. The rest of the songs transfer just fine ... I've got the voice memo box checked in preferences ... the voice memo plays ok in tunes on my macbook and on my iphone but does not show at all on ipad after transfer.
    Whats up with that?
Thank you, especially if you can help me figure it out!

    Hi
Yes very puzzling.. Can you confirm your iPhone type and IOS... 3GS and 6.0.2 don't go together.
    Cheers

  • Iphone 4s voice memos not syncing to itunes?

    hi all,
i have an iphone 4s, purchased in october 2011. all the software is up to date, as is the software on my macbook pro (running 10.5.8). the itunes version i use is 10.5.3.
i used the voice memos function for the first time recently, have two recordings of workshops, one is 45 mins long, the other about 1 hour 15 mins long. when i came home, i connected my iphone to the macbook, launched itunes, checked the box under the music tab that said "include voice memos" and hit sync. when done syncing, i saw that under all the playlists was a section for voice memos, but nothing in it. my phone has the two voice memos, but the itunes, after syncing everything, does not. i repeat, this is despite having checked the "include voice memos" box.
has anyone faced this issue before? is there any way for me to transfer these memos to my computer? any way to get the syncing to work?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
hope the new year is treating everyone well so far. cheers!...r

I've always had the "Include Voice Memos" option selected. I think that only pertains to syncing voice memos from iTunes to the iPhone after it has been copied to iTunes. It has to be the new OS/iTunes not communicating that new memos have been recorded. For some reason they won't sync when I want them to, and then a few syncs later they magically appear.
By the way, I'm VERY comfortable with the iTunes and iPhone systems. I've been using iTunes for 5 years, and I've been recording class lectures with the iPhone voice memo app (and another app) for a couple years. It's not an error of not seeing that the memos were added; they don't exist in my library or music folders.
JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY, POST WHICH FIRMWARE YOU ARE RUNNING EXACTLY!!!
I'm on an iPhone 4, running firmware 4.0.1
