IPhone won't activate after restore - says wrong apple ID/password

Hi everyone,
I recently attempted to upgrade to the latest iOS on my iPhone 4. However there was an error, so my phone had to be restored. I did this, and was then prompted to activate my iPhone.
However it is claiming that I am using the wrong apple ID/password when I am not. I am able to log into My Apple ID online and have done so, and have changed PWs and fiddled around with it but it won't let me sign in!
Can anyone help?

  • IPhone won't activate after restore

Can't activate my iPhone 4S after restoring it to factory settings on iOS 6. It's been 12 hours now. I tried restoring it several times through iTunes and so far no luck. Feel very frustrated. What do I do?
This is the message that gets displayed when I try to activate the phone:
"Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable."

I had the same issue, and just took took it to the Apple Store.  They had the same problem and ended up replacing my phone.

  • IPhone won't activate after restore. Activation server unavailable

I restored my iPhone 4 through iTunes and it keeps saying "unable to activate phone, activation server unavailable".

There are two common causes for this problem:
    1. Your antivirus or firewall is blocking access to gs.apple.com. Disable them and try again.
    2. You once, at some time in the past, used your computer to hack or jailbreak some iOS device (not necessarily the iPhone with the problem). If you did your network database on your computer is corrupted, and you will have to edit your hosts file and delete any lines that contain gs.apple.com.

Had to get it unlocked at managed to get eveything back after restoring it from itunes. Very happy cause the guy in the apple shop told me i had to call apple and pay 35euro just to talk to them! I manged to get it unlocked for only 20 and its just like it was.
hope you're able to get yours sorted

  • IPhone won't activate after updating to iOS7... even after connecting to iTunes...

my iOS7 wouldn't budge after updating so I performed the silly mistake of doing a system restore. It updated but now my iPhone won't activate! Do you think it's the servers? I'm perfectly connected to my wifi and my phone is connected to iTunes!

Yeah... Thanks! It finally managed to pull through... ugh... was getting slightly worried because I needed it for something important at the moment... but thankfully it's okay now.

  • HT201407 iPhone unable to activate after restore

    Hi,
I have just restored my old iPhone 3GS 8GB (without a sim card in it) as I was going to sell it. However after restoring it via iTunes a message appears "we are unable to continue with your activation at this time. Please try again later, or contact customer care"
I have tried it several times but get the same message, any ideas?
    Thanks

iPhones require a SIM for activation.
If the device still will not activate, this is typically the result of a device that has been hacked or jailbroken.  If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

  • HT201210 iphone will not activate after restore

My iPhone3gs will not activate after a reboot and reset what should I do?

    What message do you get?

  • Iphone 4s won't activate after restore

The software on my phone  4s (ios 7.1, Verizon carrier) was acting buggy, so I decided to restore it. After doing so and restoring it from a backup, the phone started telling me it wasn't activated. I tried setting it up as a new phone, but the same problem continued. I've done this before (pre-ios 7) and haven't had the same problem.

    Hi Katherine,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides tips that should help you resolve the activation issue.
    Get help activating your iPhone
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3424
Check the system status for iOS Device Activation. If the iOS Device Activation status isn't green, try activating your iPhone later.
    Restart the iPhone.
Try to reach the activation server another way, then try to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you can't activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you can't activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you try to activate your iPhone, place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you still can't complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.
If you're asked to enter a password to proceed with activating the iPhone, Activation Lock might be enabled as part of Find my iPhone.
    Cheers!

  • IPhone 4s won't activate after restore and update

After trying to update my iPhone 4s to iOS7 and it crashing halfway through I had to restore the phone. Now the phone seems to have iOS 7 but while trying to set it up it comes up with 'Could Not Activate iPhone'. It's something to do with the activation sever not being able to be reached. I have no idea what any of this means and every other discussion confuses me so if someone could explain how on earth I get my bloody phone back in simple language that would be marvellous

I have the same problem.  Have you figured it out?

  • IPhone 4 won't activate after restore

I see others have asked tis question and got nowhere as someone implied the phone had been hacked. I don't understand all that but this is what just happened. My phone was with Telstra but unlocked so I could  take it away instead of my iphone 5. I had all apps etc updated then last week did restore as I'm going to sell it. I then thought I better write down IMEI number so did the language setting then connected to my wi fi but did not put my SIM in. And I got a message saying contact customer care.
Very perplexing. The phone has not been with anyone else only in my bedside drawer and last week before restore all was fine. I'm going to put SIM in as I'm still with Telstra and try again.  Any other suggestions.

I had to go online with Telstra and unlock. At the end it said YOUR PHONE IS UNLOCKED.  I then reinstalled all my apps etc so that I could take it away which was in APRIL. It was performing same as my iphone 5 with all apps and email coming to phone but obviously no SIM.
Should I call Telstra. I realised I can't put SIM in as the new one is smaller.
Very annoying as I have followed what they said.

  • IPhone won't activate after "auto" reset

    Hi,
I went to bed at 10:30pm last night, set my iPhone alarm for 05:30am this morning, dimmed my brightness to its lowest setting (as I always do, so I don't get blinded when I check the time during the night) and then left my phone beside my bed.
This morning, when the alarm went off, I couldn't switch it off, because my iphone was in the middle of some "restore" after doing what can only be called an "automatic" reset.  I had to switch the phone off to stop the alarm.
Now, I can't get past the activation screen and keep getting the "Your iphone could not be activated because the server is temporarily unavailable" screen.  No matter HOW many times I try, or how long I wait between tries, it just won't complete this part.
I followed the advice in various forums, and tried connecting to iTunes.  However, iTunes says "The software on the iphone has expired and must be updated to a new version" - all of which I find extremely strange as:
    1)  My iPhone is (was - God only knows what it's on now) on the latest build of 5.1
    2)  iTunes is on version 10.6 (updated recently)
    3)  When I clear the iTunes message, it tries to sync the phone but, obviously as the phone hasn't yet activated after the auto-reset, can't.
    4)  The iTunes screen showing the iPhone information states that the software is the latest version and doesn't need changing.
I'm now stuck with an iPhone which doesn't work and I don't live near an Apple store either - only a Stormfront store
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tony

I have a similar situation. I woke up with a 'bricked' iPhone. I can't get into it as I had a beta version installed and the beta has expired. I used that beta version because the stable iOS 5.0 gave me a SIM error every so many hours (after which I needed to turn on and off my phone). Tried everything, and installing the beta solved that issue for me (really glad it did). I installed it as a non developer.
I now can't update the iOS through iTunes, I can't get in my phone, I simply can't use the device as I can not get passed the developer screen. I can't even backup because a session cannot be started from iTunes. All iTunes is saying is "The software on the iphone has expired and must be updated to a new version" and when I check for update, it gives back "This version of the iPhone software (5.1) is the current version".
So I'm stuck with a great device which doesn't work.

  • Bought used jailbroken 3GS, won't activate after restore

Just bought a used 3GS that was jailbroken by the seller. We tested the SIM card in the phone and the AT&T network showed right up no problem. We didn't care to have it jailbroke, so I brought it home and did a restore on the phone. The phone rebooted and behaved like a new phone. Asking language, location, WiFi network, etc. I noticed that during this process the top showed that it was searching for the phone network.... it stayed in that mode. I went to the activation screen and it sits there forever and then comes back with a message saying the activation server is unavailable.
So... I connected this to iTunes to activate.... and iTunes says that the SIM card is not in the phone (it is).....
Anyone have this problem? And better yet... a solution

OK... so this was apparently jailbroke with Absinthe. So... I went to their site and followed their instructions in their YouTube video on how to restore this phone back to original state. I followed the instructions exactly. Which is what I had done previously. However... here's what happens.
It starts with the 'Connect to iTunes' screen. Which I did.... it downloaded and restores 5.1.1 to the iPhone. The iPhone reboots and now comes up with the screen like it's a new phone. Asking for language, location, location services off/on, WiFi network (which it sees and logs into just fine)... and then it gets to the authentication screen and just sits until it gets to a screen that says the server is down. If I try to authenticate it through iTunes it says the iPhone is missing a SIM card (it's in there and been reseated a few dozen times... and was working prior with the jailbreak). The phone shows it's in constant search for the AT&T network and never connects.
So I'm stuck in this position of not being able to authenticate.
I've not dealt with jailbreaks before, though I'm a fairly technical sort of guy. I've done a good couple hours of research to find an answer and have tried a few different things with the same result.

  • Iphone won't activate after iOS 6 upgrade

    Hi all,
Went to backup my daughters iPhone and iTunes said that a new iOS (6) was availible and I should update. I did so and follwed all the instructions. the update seemed to go well. The Phone then rebooted and started with the grey iPhone screen and it asked to be reactivated.  i again follwed procedure but I kept on getting "...iPhone could not be activated  because the activation server is temporarily unavailabe..." message. I have tried this countless times, including resetting my modem/router so I dont believ that is the apple servers.
What is the issue and how can I restore it?
    Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks

Did u guys get this fixed? I have a friend with exactly the same problem!
Upgrade a 3GS on 4.1 or 4.2 (don't remember) using the latest iTunes and it patched to iOS 6.
Once there it's stuck in activation. Since the person has no wifi but only 3G network, the only option is to activate using iTunes which doesn't work. Though that PC is perfectly connected to the internet.
Never jailbroken... now we're thinking that actually jailbreaking might be the only fix?!

  • IPhone won't activate after upgrade to 2.1 Software

I upgraded to the version 2.1 iPhone software on my original iPhone and after doing so my phone entered "emergency mode" and iTunes 8.0 gave me a message that said "info for activation could not be obtained from iPhone. Check SIM card.....". I rebooted the phone but it came up in this mode.
A post on the AppleNova forum suggested starting the phone in recovery mode, which solved the problem and restored the phone to functional. To enter recovery mode you start with the phone powered off and while holding down the home button, plug in your USB cable. This brings up iTunes noting the phone is in recovery mode. Then you click restore and the phone is restored to prior settings which makes it functional again. My data was backed up so it restored such that I didn't lose any music, photos or contacts.

I don't know how widespread this problem is, but its quite frustrating and adds another little bit of tarnish to Apple's otherwise gleaming reputation.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You have no idea how frustrated I was last night. I couldn't figure out what the heck the problem was, but I'm having the same exact problem as you. I'm going to try this fix and see if it works.

You have the developer release. If you are not a developer, it's illegal to put it on the iPhone.
You need to go to that place where you download it for help.
