IPhone4 failure after 12months and 3 days

I have had my iPhone for a little over 12months and suddenly the lock button  has decided to stop working. I am appalled at the level of customer Service I received with regards to this matter as it turns out that the product failure occured 3 days after the warranty expired so I have now been informed that I have to pay for it to be repaired! I had always recommended Apple products to friends and family and have recently been looking to purchase both a macbook and iPad but after such poor customer service and lack of interest in helping me from the Apple Store staff I think I will rethink my intentions. I think its absolutely disgusting that an expensive smart phone such as the iPhone4 should have a fault occur so shortly after the warranty expiration date and for Apple to be so dismissive with a complete lack of interest in helping me stating "that's just how it is with warranty, once the 12months are up you have to pay for it to be repaired." I understand now that money is the only thing companies like Apple are concerned with and that customer care is at the bottom of their priorities. Very disappointed

The warranty is the warranty. Few of any other companies will provide support at no cost once the warranty expires, even if just a day. I was actually turned down for warranty support by one company when the warranty expired while we were working with the company to troubleshoot the problem. Warranties have an expiration period for a reason. If you'd wanted a longer warranty, you should have purchased AppleCare which would have extended your coverage for another year. Expecting Apple to provide coverage at no charge after the warranty has expired is unrealistic.
You can, if you wish, call Apple tech support, ask to speak with a Customer Relations representative, and plead your case. It's possible they can make an exception for you, though it's unlikely.
I understand now that money is the only thing companies like Apple are concerned with
Sorry, but that calls for a "well, duh!". Of course Apple is concerned about money. That's what all companies are concerned with; that's their purpose. If you believed otherwise, well, sorry again, but that's just naive.
Regards.

  • Time capsule backup failure after moving and changing internet access

I bought a 1GB time capsule to backup my MacBook Pro using time machine and also archived files so I would have these when I had to move across country to work temporarily. The time capsule was working fine in my home after the original backup through an ATT DSL, but I then moved across country and set up a Comcast cable DSL and now Time machine records under Backing up: Preparing and the latest backup records failure. Is there a way of fixing this without erasing the entire Time Capsule and then taking 2-3 days of backing up again and will I have access to these when I return to my original home with the capsule and MacBook Pro. I have tried resetting all the backup modes and options.

    Linda,
According to the logs, you are going to need to initiate a backup, and then let it do it's thing uninterrupted, perhaps all day of over night. Time Machine needs to do a "deep traversal". See this article.
*_Time Machine May Report "Preparing..." For a Long Time_*
First, it’s good to determine WHY Time Machine is "Preparing..." for an extended period of time. Examining the Console logs during this event can reveal what is actually going on behind the scenes. It may be “Preparing…” for a genuinely good reason. How long is 'too long' to wait for Time Machine to finish "Preparing..."? Some times, "Preparing..." is required to perform the normal housekeeping that Time Machine does periodically. Other times, it really is "stuck" and never proceeds after many hours.
*”Deep Traversal” (Recent Crash / Forced Restart / System Update / Extended Period Between Backups)*
According to the following KB article it can sometimes take quite a long time if Time Machine begins a “deep traversal” and has to compare data inventories. This may apply to your situation, particularly if many Gigs of data are involved. [http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1516]
You see, Time Machine *+does not+* ordinarily perform file-by-file comparisons to determine what has changed and thus determine what needs to be backed up. Rather, Time Machine relies on FSEvents notifications. This is a log that the system uses to keep track of changes to directories. Rather than scan tens of thousands of files for changes each time, Time Machine simply looks at this log and narrows its’ scan to only the directories that have experienced changes since the last backup. Otherwise, Time Machine would have to be running constantly just to catch every change on its own and thus eat up precious CPU.
Every event that FSEvents records has its’ own ID which includes a time stamp. At the end of every backup, Time Machine stores the last event ID that it processes. When the next backup is initiated, Time Machine looks at this stored ID and determines that it only needs to backup events that have occurred after the time stamp on this last event ID.
If, due to a system crash, power failure, forced restart, or some other major system event, Time Machine cannot find this last event ID in the system logs then it will consider the FSEvents log “untrustable” and it will go into what’s called “deep traversal”. The Console logs may report +“Event store UUIDs don't match”.+ In this event, Time Machine will by-pass the system log entirely and perform its’ own file-by-file comparison to determine what has changed since its’ last backup. Obviously, if tens or hundreds of Gigs are involved, then this process can take quite some time and should be allowed to proceed.
Additionally, it appears that if Time Machine has to go back too far to find the last event ID, then it will give up and simply go into “deep traversal” and do the file-by-file scan on its’ own. This can occur if Time Machine has not been able to perform its’ hourly backups for some time, as is the case for users who only backup once a week or so. This is also the case with major Mac OS system updates that change thousands of files at one time. There are simply too many events logged by the system for Time Machine to bother looking for the last known event ID.
    Cheers!

  • Hard disk failure after just six days of purchase

I purchased a dv6-3093ca from Costco just six days ago, and the laptop completely froze up on me. I had to force shut down by holding down the power key. Afterwards the laptop was never able to restart Windows again (freezes at the welcome screen, and the system repair does nothing). I did a system diagnostics test and it passed every test except hard disk, which it failed.
Does anyone know how I can fish my files out of this? I didn't even have time to backup yet, because I figured a computer should at least survive for a couple of weeks before needing a backup...
This is completely unacceptable, because not only is the laptop top tier in terms of specs, it's actually one of the most expensive Pavilions as well. A brand new $1k computer broke down in just six days? I was merely running Firefox + MS Word + MSN at the time. Is there any fix for this (in case something like chkdsk works)? If not I guess I'll have to return it...

Come to think of it I'm not that surprised this happened now. I own three HP laptops (relatives bought the other two). One laptop basically could not be used for a long time with Vista, kept freezing for no reason, found it later it was another hardware problem. The more recent one's hard drive broke in just six days due to overheating, thanks to some idiot's design of cramming an i7 + 6GB RAM into a poorly designed system. The moronic "tech support"'s answer was "we will provide an exchange for you, after we send you a cardboard box, you send us the laptop, we fool around with it, then give you another hard drive when we feel like it, and by "when we feel like it", we mean either 2 weeks or 2 months". Yes it takes a lot of tech knowledge to come up with that kind of solution, and it took him an entire half an hour to type that into the computer as well. Waiting two weeks for an exchange that might break again? Lol like any person with a normal mind would do that. Returned it for a full refund right now and never touching another crappy HP product again. You fail at creating laptops HP, and what's even worse is that you fail at customer service as well.

  • TS1559 Wi-Fi on my iphone4s is grayed out and I think this happened after the update 7.0.4. I went to apple store and they turned me down that there is no support in the 2nd year. Extremely disappointed and no way except to pay and get replacement. Pls ad

Wi-Fi on my iphone4s is grayed out and I think this happened after the update 7.0.4. I tried all possible solutions through apple online support and then went to apple store as a last resort and they turned me down that there is no support in the 2nd year. Only option is to pay 160 pounds and get replacement. When I argued further, they said that if I had bought the iphone directly with them, they would replace me without any cost. This is even more frustrating.
THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR as its not my fault. If the release of faulty 7.0.4 software is timed in my 2nd year of contract and since I didnt buy the iphone directly from Apple, how is it fair to ask me to pay for replacement. Its not my fault after all.

Because you are outside the one year hard ware warrenty, Apple covers for the first year on their dime, if you had a two year contract why not make sure you have a two year insurance on your phone?
Either way as I can see/assume you are from europe you can look at your consumer laws to see if you qualify for anything there, beyond that it isn't the software that broke the device, it's a hardware failure because thousands upon thousands are happy and content with iOS 7.0.4

Its a temporary fix and is still looking for the HP driver when i boot up. It also will not save in any print or postscript format. Does anyone know how to fix?
Currently use a Mac with the latest Mavericks 10.9.4

Oh boy! Acting kind of weird seems to be an understatement, aquaequus!
What type of troubleshooting were we able to do with you? I want to make sure that we can get some sort of resolution for this problem.
It is quite possible the battery door may get your phone in working order again. I'm not sure if the store has it in stock, but it is available in our warehouse for $14.99 which can be ordered via customer service.

Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are not synced. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are not touched with the iTunes sync process. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer which is not handled by iTunes. Most importing software includes an option to delete the photos/videos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. If is my understanding that some Windows import software supports importing photos from the Camera Roll, but not videos. Regardless, the import software should not delete the photos/videos from the Camera Roll unless you set the app to do so.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup. If you synced your iPhone with iTunes before the videos on the Camera Roll went missing and you haven't synced your iPhone with iTunes since they went missing, you can try restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup. Don't sync the iPhone with iTunes again and decline the prompt to update the iPhone's backup after selecting Restore.

  • Firefox was working fine in the morning, after half a day, it just crashed and now every time i try to start FF it crashes, i reinstalled FF, even tryed FF 4 beta, every time same crash report window, and nothing happens.

After a half day working normally, FF just crashed, and now i reinstall it, even tryed FF 4 beta, and still getting crash report. Cant even start in safe mode, same crash report window pop up.
Checked for viruses, malwares. Nothing helped.

Other applications print okay? If so, try deleting the Preview .plist
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~`/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below. It does work with Mountain Lion:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots  and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

I purchased the 30 day subscription of Adobe Pro for my Mac Air and downloaded the app and opened it as instructed. Nothing appears to happen after that and I have been unable to use Adobe Pro thus far.

I previously downloaded a trial version of Adobe Pro and had used it the last 30 days. Today I just clicked on the link from my purchase confirmation and downloaded some type of installer. Once I clicked on the installer and gave it permission to do whatever it needed to do, it just sort of stalled. I am running Mac OS Yosemite. I thought Yosemitie might be part of the problem because it has given me occasional problems with Word and some other programs.

    Jerricayoung,
you have a 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. It’s modern enough that it supports booting into Recovery mode. To do so, hold down a Command key and the R key as you start up. It should eventually show a Mac OS X Utilities menu. Select Disk Utility from that menu; when the Disk Utility window appears, select the bootable volume from the left-hand side of the window. (It’s typically called “Macintosh HD”.) When the volume is selected, some buttons will appear on the right-hand side. If it’s not greyed out, press the Verify Disk button; if it is greyed out, or if it reports on errors that it found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu; that will restart your MacBook Pro in its normal mode. With luck, that will be enough to get you to your normal login screen, rather than the white screen.

  • I updated to FF4 and after a few days, strange things started happening. How do I recover to normal?

I updated to FF4 and after a few days, strange things started happening.
The groups I had set up disappeared and the Group button is gone.
When I first open the app, it opens 8 - 12 separate windows with 1 blank tab. The orange Firefox button is there with nothing else on that bar. Also, 3 tool bars are blank (i.e. space is there but it's just grey) with NO buttons.
If I want my previously opened tabs, I have to use the "Recently Closed windows" option to get back to where I was when I last closed down. The orange Firefox button is missing from this window but all the original menu items are back across the top.
So how do I get back to the way it is supposed to operate?

I ordered an Adobe Revel app on a 30 free trial which downloaded successfully. However I find it isn't what I require but have already been debited £3.99 after only 3 days? How can I stop this monthly billing and why is a 30 free trial not what is advertised?

Instructions for canceling a Revel subscription are posted here:  http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/revel_how_to_turn_on_off_a uto_renewal_for_subscription_billing
You only get charged for Revel if you choose the monthly or yearly paid subscription options, which indicate their prices before you complete the purchase.  If you choose the "complimentary 30 days" option instead, you get full use of Revel for 30 days, and you won't be charged at all -- unless you later choose to upgrade to one of the paid options.
