Iphoto 6 ruins my pictures

When I import jpegs into iphoto 6 the color rendition is terrible when viewed. It gives them this awful purple tinge.
Actually, it only does this with one out of three photos that are imported. Most look fine. In fact before I import any photos into iphoto they look fine in preview.
I've set the preferences not to add any color profile. That does not help. It also does not help if I do add a color profile.
However, if I save the jpeg as a TIFF there are no problems, but this seems like less than an elegant solution as if someone emails me pictures, I want to just be able to easily import them into iphoto without having to first convert the image to a TIFF. This is sort of ridiculous.
How can I fix this?
Also, as much as I dislike windows, does anybody know of a similar picture viewer, for the mac, that's is for the most part pretty reliable and easy to use?
Thanks!

I've set the preferences not to add any color profile. That does not help. It also does not help if I do add a color profile.
That only comes into play if the photo being imported does not have a color profile assigned. What is the color profile assigned to those photos that are giving you problems. You can find out by exporting to the desktop, opening with Preview and typing Command-i. In the info window the color profile will be given.
If the photos look OK in iPhoto in another account like Terence suggested it might be a preference file other than iPhoto's that is causing the conflict. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Iphoto 9.6 Pictures Gone

I recently upgraded to Iphoto 9.6 on Yosemite. When I open Iphoto all my pictures are gone. When I look in "finder" I can see the file called "Iphoto library" and it still shows that I have 18GB of photos in that file. However when I try to import the file to Iphoto or simply try to open it nothing happens. Iphoto simply opens and still my photos are not displayed.
I am thinking iphoto did not properly upgrade the photos when I updated the software. Someone please help!

I believe I updated from the original iPhoto version that came with the Mac Pro 5 years ago.
Can you check that by looking at a backup of the old iPhoto application?
If you upgraded from iPhoto '08 - version 7.1.2 or earlier, your iPhoto library needs be prepared for the update by running the iPhoto Library Upgrader, see the link for this document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
If your iphoto was newer, try the Library First Aid options, that photosb189 mentioned, but be sure to make a backup of your iPhoto library first.

  • I have several albums in a folder in iphoto.  The pictures are ordered, labeled, and dated. I want to put them on an external hard drive and have them stay in order w/labels. How can I do that?  Thank You

I have several "albums" in a "folder "in iphoto.  The pictures, and videos (from a camera and smart phone) are ordered, labeled, and dated. I want to put them on an external harddrive. How can I do that and keep them in order, etc. What I have tried reorders them, separates them into the camera pictures, phone pictures, and movies. We are not sauvy in Apple or iphoto so this has been extremely frustrating for us.

Files on disk have no order - they are given the order by the viewing program - finder on the Mac - using the finder you can view files by many different sorts - file name - date created - date moified - size - etc
Deciede how you are going to sort them when you view them and then export them so that sort works for you
Generally using an alpha sort to view and exporting using the sequential nameing option is the solution - see the user tip on exporting for the options available

  • IPhoto events and pictures missing from iPhoto after restoring new hard drive and upgrade to iLife11

My iPhoto events and pictures are ALL missing from my iPhoto Library after I tried restoring my programs on a new hard drive AND upgrading to iLife11!  Over the last few months, I upgraded my 2008 Macbook Pro's hard drive from a 250 GB to a 500 GB hard drive and since then have been manually installing and restoring programs and software.  I decided to do things manually because I had problems with doing Time Machine backups/restores in the past, so before I upgraded the drive, I manually saved everything to a Western Digital MyStudio 1 TB hard drive that I had just for the purposes of a second back up.  Anyway, I tried importing the pictures onto the new library, but couldn't find the hard copies at first, so that didn't work.  I then tried deleting the iPhoto Library that came with new operating system, then copying my old backup onto the new hard drive...that didn't work either.  However, when I right clicked on the iPhoto Library icon on my external hard drive (the original) and clicked on "show package contents," the folder not only contained the originals, but they were still organized by year and event just as I had them originally!
So, then I thought "why don't I try just importing the pictures directly into the new iPhoto Library!"
I tested it out, and sure enough, it worked!  I then tried importing an entire folder (which, was actually the name of the event), and again it worked!  So, I literally clicked and dragged my entire 2007-2009 library of pictures (which was about 35 GB) back into my iPhoto Library!  AND, this only took about 30 minutes to download, enough time for me to write this post and the following instructions to Recap:
              1. Open your new iPhoto Library
              2. Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
              3. Click on "Show Package Contents"
              4. Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
              5. Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
              6. DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reaseon, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
I assume this could work on other iLife programs, but luckily I have MobileMe and my iCalendar updated itself, though I did have to do some tweeking...
Hope this helps other people out, GOOD LUCK!

I'm re-posting the answer to this problem so I can show it has been answered:
    Open your new iPhoto Library
Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
    Click on "Show Package Contents"
Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reason, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
              GOOD LUCK!!!

  • I just downloaded iPhoto 9.5 to replace my old ver. 7.x.  Downloaded the library upgraded but have no idea where it installed as it is not listed in Applications.  Opened iPhoto added my Library (12.5 GB) but iPhoto shows no pictures.

I just downloaded iPhoto 9.5 to replace my old ver. 7.x.  Downloaded the library upgraded but have no idea where it installed as it is not listed in Applications.  Opened iPhoto added my Library (12.5 GB) but iPhoto shows no pictures. In fact, iPhoto indicates that I have zero photos in the library while at the same time indicating the file size as 12.5 GB.

If your old iPhoto version was iPhoto 7, you need to run the iPhoto Library upgrader:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1523
It will install itself in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder.
Run it, and after that, you should be able to open your iPhoto Library with iPhoto '11.

  • Why is setting wallpaper impossible to get the picture to fit the screen, it completely ruins my pictures.

Why is it impossible to set your wallpaper without it being blown out of proportion and ruining perfect pictures.......

Since the introduction of the parallax feature in iPad, resizing photos for background pictures no longer works.
Higher definition pictures work well, but older smaller pictures don't.  One option that many do is open your camera roll and open the picture you want to use.  Size it the way you want and then take a screen shot of that picture, which will store in your camera roll and will work for your background picture.
To take a screen shot hold your finger on the home button and then tap the power button and you'll hear your camera shutter take the screen shot.

  • IPhoto launches with pictures showing then quits

I am using iPhoto 4.03 with OS 10.3.9, it has never given me any problems until I installed the latest Security Update from Apple. The first time I went to launch IPhoto after the install it quit on start up, then came up with the dialog box asking if I wanted to send a bug report to Apple. I have tried all the fixes mention in these Discussions. Rebuilding IPhoto, removing iPhoto plist. preferences, removing the three thumbnails, removing iPhoto folder from pictures folder, ran utilities repairing permissions. IPhoto did launch when I used a different account but as soon as I tried to import new pictures it crashed.
    i mac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   192 MB SDRAM

    Chuck,
If you've repaired permissions and the (mis)behavior of iPhoto is similar when accessed from separate user accounts, then I would be tempted to reinstall the application, and see if that changes anything.
If you choose to reinstall, make sure you delete the iPhoto receipts .pkg (from the Library folder) before the reinstallation, and don't forget to pay a visit to Software Updates (in the Apple Menu) after the reinstall.

  • IPhoto library or pictures folder

While trying to back up my photos to Sugarsync service I realized that my iphoto library and pictures folder have disappeared.  I have backed up all my photos to an external drive and they are still on my computer so I am not frantic.  I can not find the library or the pictures folder though.  I am using Macbook Air and the newest version of iphoto.

TD - did as you said, selected the photo, reveal in finder
all the photos now appear on the right side of the screen with a green check
On the the left side of the screen:
    favories
    shared
    devices
       remote disc
This would appear to mean that my photos are on some remote disc/server?  I am an icloud user but my photos are not there,  I also do not save them to itunes.  I have been using a backup service - Sugarsync and had been saving my photos there as a backup.  Do you think they are all there now and none of them are on my computer?
Sorry, hate to ask all these questions.

  • *problem shown with images* Iphoto deleted my pictures, unable to see them in iPhoto Library Manager either

Hello everyone! First post here. I have searched endless amount of forums and finally decided to post my problem.
Today my images from Iphoto went missing. When I tried to open the iphoto app, it gave me an error that the files were unreadable and therefore not imported.
Then I tried to rebuild iphoto by holding down option and command. I tried every option and it would still show my iphoto as 0 pictures.
I tried to view my images by going to the show packages option but it doesnt display the masters or originals files..
lastly I downloaded the Iphoto library manager and it was able to detect my pictures, but I could not see them or import/rebuild the library.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? When I tried to view the images it also shows a white triangle with a question mark in the middle. I beleiev the caption also says missing.tiff. Any help would be appreciated. I just recently got my macbook air so I have not done any backups.

I also noticed that my photo booth pictures got deleted as well. I'm trying to recover images through a recovery software and it does give me the option to look at the masters file, but there is nothing in there...
Also how could the Iphoto manager show that I have the 900 pictures? even though I am unable to actually see the image.. Could it be these pictures formats were changed somehow?

  • Sometimes after creating an event folder on iPhoto, all my pictures in that event will be gone the next time I open iPhoto. Why is this happening? Is there a way to retrieve the missing photos?

Sometimes after creating an event folder on iPhoto, all my pictures in that event will be gone the next time I open iPhoto. Why is this happening? Is there a way to retrieve the missing photos?
Most events I make on iphoto will still be there the next time I open iPhoto, while other event FOLDERS will be there, but pictures in it gone.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have over 300 pictures on my phone...my question to someone iphone savvy is why, when I plug my phone into the computer is iPhoto showing no pictures?  I want to delete them for space issues.  Thanks

I've seen this happen when the phone was encrypted... Other than calling apple/deleting passcodes I don't know of any solution.
If you're keen on waiting, upload your photos to dropbox, that's the way I do it.

What resolution are the photos? What size are the photo frames are you placing them in? Are you getting the yellow low resolution warning triangle on them?
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
