IPhoto 7.1 has fixed the iPhoto 6 "revert to original" bug

Over a year ago I posted on an iPhoto bug, possibly related to use of importing Libraries.

Basically, iPhoto would show the 'revert to original' command even on images that had never been modified. This had odd side-effects with some software. A contributor to one of my blogs found that "file Library6.iPhoto and concluded that the conversion of a field "idED" went wrong. I was able to repair the file using a HEX editor."
The good news is that when I converted a test Library that had an image showing this behavior, iPhoto 7.1 converted correctly. The incorrect 'revert to original' status was gone.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What's happening with the V7 vignette is that a vignette mask is created and applied to the photo. If you crop the photo the same mask is applied to the cropped area just enlarging the visible part in the vignette.
To do what you want you now have to export the file and reimport as a new photo and crop that one. A bummer, I know. Otherwise get a 3rd party editor that you can do all of that in one step and then save.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Sounds like you have another iPhoto library someplace - under no conditions would iPhoto revert a library to an older one - you just need to find and open the correct one
Depress and hold the option key, launch iPhoto and use the resulting select library to look st the libraries you have

The changed picture description in iPhoto doesn't copy to flash drive, reverts o original img number

for easier access i changed indiviual picture descriptions from original img numbers to dates eg 14-01-01. this shows on iphoto okay. when i copy to a flashdrive, the date reverts to he image number. how can i save changes?

Unless you held down the Command key when dragging the iPhoto Library package to the flash drive you only copied the library. How is the flash drive formatted? If it was not OS X Extended (journaled) the integrity of the library's internal structure was probably compromised.
If you don't have a current backup of your library do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

IPhoto 6: Does it fix the large maker note and slowness issue???

I'm hopefull that the newly released iPhoto 6 resolves the problem that many of us with certain Pentax and Nikon cameras are having (creating a bloated library.iphoto file due to a larger maker note ... refer to http://www.ericlindsay.com/apple/iphoto5slow.htm for more info.). In essence, this issue makes iphoto painful to use as it takes minutes to start up, up load photos and shut down the program.
Does ANYONE know if this problem is fixed with iphoto 6 (note that iphoto 4 did NOT have this issue)??? Any insight greatly appreciated!

Matt you make a very forceful case for your app, which is understandable since no doubt some effort was needed to create it, and it does what it is meant to do. For that, congratulations and many thanks.
But, as pointed out by the previous contribution, just throwing away the makernote data is not a true solution. The maker, in my case Pentax, but also Nikon and a few others, put it there for some good reason. In fact it is not superfluous or unnecessary as you have written elsewhere.
If you are prepared to search around a wee bit, you can find descritipons of the Pentax makernotes which show that they store information which may be highly relevant to, for instance, photographers, trying to get the best out of their extremely configurable and complex digital cameras. Now 30k may seem big when attached to some vignettte out of a 2mpix point and shoot. In my case, sorry to be personnal, average jpeg size is 1.9 Megs (over about 5000 pix) and 30k is neither here nor there.
It definitely does not justify iphoto screwing up so badly. As a Mac user of 20 years, I do not plan to acquire iLife 6 if the correction is not confirmed. and blaming camear manufacturers for improperly implementing exif is so feeble I shall stop ranting now.
Meanwhile contributing workarounds such as yours is a valuable part of the mac community ethos. Keep it up!

I am not able to open iPhoto, when I have used the iPhoto Library Manager, I get the message that "the iPhoto Library folder could not be found" Help!

Help! I can't open the iPhoto! I have os x 10.5.8 and I have tried using the iPhoto Library Manager only to find out that the folder for the iPhoto Library could not be found.
I have also tried the Fix #1 from the user Old Toad who said to delete the preference file :com.appleiPhoto.plist - I could do that, but I couldn't figure out how to delete iPhoto's cache fie, Cache.db because I couldn't find it? I'm not sure how to find the file by it's directory path name of HD/User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto .
Help is very much appreciated!

Download and use Find Any File to search for "Library6.iPhoto". It's a file that is present in every iPhoto library. If you don't find one on your hard drive then your library has gone missing entirely.
Another thing you can try is to use the Search For - All Images feature in the Finder window to see if you can see any of your photos.
That will tell you if they are on your hard drive but somewhere other than the library.
What do you see when you insert the DVD into the optical drive? Can you open it and any folders on the disk? If the disk is titled iPhoto Library then open the disk, the the iPhoto Library folder and finally the Originals folder. Check the subfolders to see if your photos are there.
Your original photo files will be in the Originals subfolders.

IPhoto is not using/recognizing the iPhoto library

An iPhoto message recently popped up saying that my library was currupt and that it was going to run a script to fix it. I clicked ok and then another message popped up letting me know that the script had finished running.
When I went to open up iPhoto I was meet with a pop up asking me "Which photo library do you want iPhoto to use?". No libraries are listed and when I click on "Other Library..." my iPhoto library is there, but when I clcik "Open" nothing happens. Below is a screenshot of the windows I described here. My device is a MacBook Pro 13 Retina, iPhoto is version 9.5.1. Any advice you can provide will be much appreciated!

When I double-click on the iPhoto library it opens up iPhoto and I have to go through the process above. Also the only way I can reach my pictures folder is through Terminal.

Upgrade from iPhoto 5 to 6 crashes, the iPhoto is not launching

I recently install iLife 06 in my computer, Powerbook G4. Since I did that, I cant start iPhoto. When I click the icone, it jumps a little bit (for few seconds) and then stop, nothing happen.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The first and easiest, if relevant, fix is to delete the iPhoto Preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, from your User/Library/Preferences folder. Also run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions (should be done after any software installation or update). Give that a try and post back.

After importing from iPhoto, Originals are still in the iPhoto Library

I have imported my iPhoto library in the Aperture but when I look to see where the originals actually reside I see that they are still saved in the iPhoto Library directory structure.
How can I make sure that all the previous iPhoto pictures have the master copy in the Aperture?

Be careful about deleting the iPhoto library. iPhoto supports videos and several image formats Aperture does not support. If you delete the library you will lose them. Aperture will tell you that there are items it could not import, but it will not tell you what they are!

Imported iPhoto library, can I delete the iPhoto events?

I'm very new to Aperture, so far I'm impressed.
I have imported my iPhoto library and now I see a folder called 'iPhoto Lirary' that contains 'Events' and then events (that look like Aperture projects).
The question is, can I delete the 'iPhoto Library' folder?
and also, can I, delete the Aperture projects without impacting the actual pictures?

The library is the humongous collection of files and relationships between the files -- it is the Aperture database, stored in a Mac OS "Package". It's the thing you "open", like you open a document or spreadsheet to see what you've previously stored in it.
A Project is a logical group of photos within a library. Aperture allows you to create as many projects as you like within your library, and you can store as many photos as you like within each project (although some users here have found poor performance with 2000+ photos in a single project).
What I wasn't clear with was, are the photos stored in the library and files I see in a Project are 'sortcuts' to the photos in the library?
I suppose that depends on your point of view concerning referenced versus managed. I prefer to think that all my photos are part of the Aperture library, but only the managed masters are actually stored within the library. With that line of thinking, all of my photos in a project are the actual photos - some of them are stored within the library (managed) and some are stored outside (referenced). When I think of "shortcuts", I think of albums. Albums in Aperture are like playlists in iTunes. A photo lives in one project in your library, but you can point to that photo in a many different albums. Aperture doesn't take up extra space in each of the albums; rather it just points back to (is a short cut to) the photo in a project.
If I Import into a Project, are the photos stored in the Library?
You should make sure you read about masters versus versions. It's hard to talk about how Aperture works (with even an innocuous sounding question like yours) without understanding masters versus versions. Master photos are stored in the library package if they are managed; they are stored where you tell Aperture to store them if they are referenced. Versions aren't really stored anywhere -- they are virtual, merely a set of instructions on how to manipulate (adjust) a master. However, thumbnails and previews for all photos are stored within the library.
Aperture tries to minimize the necessity to know if your photos are references or managed -- it really should not matter since Aperture is keeping track of them all. With Aperture, that distinction between managed and referenced is relevant in only 2 conditions: only managed masters are backed up when you create a vault; and only masters which are immediately accessible can be edited with adjustments. For the latter, that means that 1) all managed photos, and 2) only referenced photos which are on a drive which is currently connected to your system, are available for adjustments.

You are kidding this bug is still in Bridge CS5! Isn't the whole purpose of Bridge to pick the best images from rest by stacking them, filtering them and keywording them. It is nuts if you waste your time stacking them you can't filter them anymore!!!!! Why even put the 'feature' in that way. Another thing that should not happen is if you work on a file and save it as the same name but in another file format say Photoshop it takes it out of the stack and drops it to the bottom of all the images.
How hard can it be to fix the central purpose of Bridge? Wow.
BTW Thanks for making Bridge CS5 so much faster now fix the stacks.

The new frontend tools are made standalone. It means that you can install the Business Explorer without using the SAP GUI. In the earlier versions, Busines Explorer( BEx )tools were installed as an add-on to the SAP GUI.
As far as the need for the java stack, it is not needed if you are only going to run BEx (Excel) Analyzer. The java stack is only needed for the new Report Designer, any web designer queries, or anything you are publishing via Information Broadcasting.

Which part of iCloud are you referring to? iCloud Drive? iCloud Photo Library Beta? My Photo Stream? Shared Photo Stream?

Why won't apple acknowledge and fix the IOS 5 update encryption bug?

When updating to IOS5 and saving a backup, if you intentionally do not encrypt the backup, the software will do it for you against your will without letting you know. The source for the assigned against your will and knowledge password for that backup isn't clear and many people never figure out what it is. Clearly a lot of people on line and multiple people I know have come across this bug in updating their IOS to version 5 and many have lost everything on their IPADs and IPhones. Losing one's backup of irreplaceable pictures and files etc.... is just a major loss and I spent hours on the phone with a service agent who verified it is a frequent problem but that there is no acknowledgement of it.
Why is this still happening and why isn't the bug fixed considering that it is so devastating for users who can't figure out the assigned password. It happened to me months ago, it happened to my brother 2 weeks ago and to the wife of an office mate of mine yesterday. Trying every password ever known to you doesn't always work.
I'm seriously for the first time in my entire 20 years of exclusively owning Apple computer products thinking about switching to an Android instead. Apple has failed me here and without effort to curb the problem with a fix, (this has been posted previously on this support community website by others for months now) it seems endemic of front door salesmanship without concern for the customer coming back for help with the product. I give Apple it's first F.

Did Adobe ever fix the 0x00000020 'file in use' bug?

I'm currently evaluating version 2.0 (long-time user of 1.5). Trying to burn a DVD, I'm getting the error message about some unnamed file being in use by the operating system with error code 0x00000020. Seaching the forum, I see that I'm not the only one who has run into this (with complaints going back a year or more).
Can't find a *code* fix anywhere (only suggestions like "redo your menus and that may allow you to do a single burn"). Has Adobe done anything to fix this problem in the code?

Thanks, but I didn't see anything for Encore there (it's just a list of a few fixes for a completely different Adobe product).
After reading a large number of posts by various people experiencing this exact problem - dating back more than a year - it's remarkable and disturbing that Adobe hasn't taken the time to fix it. I'm a software developer myself and I can guarantee you that it wouldn't take a competent programmer more than a morning to isolate the cause (given an Encore project capable of reproducing it) - and probably another hour to fix it.
They've built a million bells and whistles into this thing (with 2.0 being noticeably more sluggish than 1.5) but in some not-so-rare scenarios, you can't even burn a DVD.

Does NiVisa fix the Ethernet read buffer allocation bug?

NiVisa 3.01 does not properly allocate memory for the read buffer and gives resource allocation error messages.

The problem showed up when trying to read back the instrument state of a Tektronixs TDS3014 oscilloscope.
Shown below is the most significant code:

The viRead command will generate an error to the effect that there is insufficient memory. Sorry, I no longer have the oscilloscope on site and can't get the exact error. Attempts to set the read buffer don't help.
