IPhoto 9.1.5 import problems

I import from my Sony camera, everything imports fine.  The pictures show up in the "last import", I can double click a picture and see it.  When I go to the events I see the event thumbnail I just imported, I can scroll through the thumbnails.  When I double click the event iPhoto says there are no photos.  When I restart iPhoto the event is gone and so are the pictures.
I go into the database and I can actually find the pictures.  They are just not showing up in iPhoto after the import.  I have done this several times.
I have tried to rebuild the library and none of the imported pictures show up and the import problem persists.
Any suggestions ?
Mike

DId you rebuild with  iPhoto Library Manager
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto 08 "Unreadable File" importing problems

Problem: The iphoto library (with 16,000 photos already) will not import anymore.
    I have performed the following:
1)Created a new iphoto library and it imports without a problem.
2)Reloaded the OSX on the computer.
3)Rebuilt the iphoto library using "Command and Option" while clicking the iphoto program.
    4) Software update (quick time also).
The problem still persists. I did get the photos to the desktop using the other iphoto library.
One photo I am trying to import is a JPG that I took with an iphone. Another photo is a JPG from a Canon Digital Elph.
It appears to be a problem ONLY with that particular iphoto library.
    Please help!

    I hope this helps others.
I did NOT fix the problem but I did find a "work around".
    1) Copy the iphoto library that will not import anymore, to the desktop.
    2) Open the iphoto library copy.
    3) Now import......it works!
If anyone finds out how to fix the problem, I am still interested in the fix. It takes a lot of time to copy a 15GB library every time I have this problem.

  • IPhoto 6.0.6 importing problems

On 6/12/08 Apple software update wanted me to up to QuickTime 7.5, it failed to install? That is when my problems seemed to occur. I cannot import into iPhoto pictures from any source, camera, card reader, CD, etc. I get Unreadable Files Alert. I found an article in Apple support, Article 93275, that cover my problem exactly, but the solution is not my problem. I have used the same camera with this Mac for the 5 years I have owned it and never have had a problem? Help.

    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • RAW image import (problem in iphoto and aperture)

either the problem is me (my understanding of what I am trying to do) or something has gone awry with both aperture and iphoto...
when importing RAW images (canon 40d camera) many of which are shot in monochrome and show up as such on the camera (they even show up in b/w on the preview import in iphoto and aperture) ALL images once imported to both iphoto and aperture are in full color. This was not the case on two previous imports (shots taken in b/w RAW imported as b/w RAW images) but now seems to happen every time. I have restarted computed, reimported, checked all settings and nothing is working.
I am missing something, yes? Thanks for any help.

no ... you will have to export it as a .tiff or .jpeg ...
and then import into aperture ...
although aperture does have a great monochrome tool worth checking out ...
something to consider is to shoot your monochromes in RAW+JPG and import into aperture ...
see here for working with RAW+JPG:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=380111&tstart=0
when stacked you will have the B&W from in camera and the colour RAW file ... tweak the monochrome mixer until the RAW is to your liking ... you can use the B&W JPG for a baseline ...

  • Fcpx and iphoto importing problem

Just bought fcpx.  All of my media is on my macbook (on iPhoto: i don't have iMovie).  fcpx is not allowing me to import my media from iPhoto.  what to do?

It's probably in a format not used by FCP. Can't tell from this information. Best to get your video out of the iPhoto library before you import it. Do not use iPhoto for video with pro apps.

  • IPhoto import problem

When I try to import my iphoto library it only imports 1600 photos out of over 6000, Ive tried it a few times and always same result
    Anyone any clue?
    Cheers

Aperture 3.0.2 does not solve this for me.
Out of 59 iPhoto events containing 1,437 images/videos altogether (mostly JPEGs), 21 partial events containing 216 images/videos get imported.
I've tried "Import iPhoto Library" into the Aperture library and as references, with "Do not import duplicates" checked and unchecked, all with the same result.
I've tried importing individual events and all of the events at the same time using the iPhoto browser. In both cases, I was told "Import Items Completed with Errors" and only a few hundred files were imported.
I've tried to rebuild the iPhoto library with "Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions", "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" and "Reclaim unused disk space from databases" checked.
I checked the Console for Aperture error messages, and found:

  • HELP:  How do you tell iPhoto 08 not to import dupes?

    Hi,
I was just looking at iPhoto 08 preferences and I can not see where I choose not to import duplicates... where or can you toggle this?
I imported from an external hard drive and I just dragged the top level folder into iPhoto to begin the import. I was never asked if I wanted to import the dupes or not....

    hassiman:
The photos do not have to be on the same drive as the library. I import from an external HD frequently and always get the duplicate warning if there are duplicates in the batch.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. iPhoto doesn't not have to be closed to run it, just idle.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Running OS 10.4.9
I dragged some jpegs into iphoto for import
The jpegs were dated 2002 and named tom001.jpg etc.
While importing they caused iphoto to unexpectantly quit
When iPhoto is relaunched it begins to load photos and quits after 15 seconds
Seems like it may still be trying to import
I have deleted out of the library (thumbnails and originals) the photos that were imported
I have tried rebuilding the database but iPhoto continues to quit
I have rebuilt the thumbnails (long and short version)
I have used disk utility to repair disk permissions
I have tried all of the below from this apple support link

    DWells:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that's in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
See if either of those will help.

  • Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive but many are not showing up in Aperture.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • Photo import problems...

For some reason, iPhoto isn't letting me import photo's anymore. (I've even tried to import photo's that I've already put on iPhoto...and still, nothing.) I'm getting a message that reads that the file format is unrecognizable or missing data.
There are only 1,000 photo's in my library right now, so I don't I've run out of room yet. I usually download my photo's to Fuji Fine Pix Viewer and then tranfer them to iphoto from there...and I've never run into a problem before. Has anyone else run into this? How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I've done both methods in the past. To import, I go to the file menu at iphoto and click on import...then select the photo's from FujiFinePix and import that way. What I usually do though, is just simply click on the photos in FujiFinePix and drag over to my iphoto...and simple as that, they're on iphoto. For some reason, I can't do either method...I've tested out photo's that I've had no trouble importing or transferring before!!! Crazy, isn't it?
Interestingly enough, as I was trying to figure out this last night, iphoto kept getting hung up on my computer. It was so bad twice that I couldn't even force quit and had to shut the computer down from the outlet. Which I know is a big no-no, but I just couldn't get unlocked.
    Any ideas?

  • IPhoto 09 won't import my photos

I've tried importing directly from my Canon SD790 IS. THis used to work but now iPhoto crashes with a message 'The application iPhoto quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the AviImporter plug-in."
I've also tried downloading to my Mac using Canon's software and then importing into iPhoto. Same thing happens.
Any ideas how to get my photos into iPhoto. The application is pretty useless otherwise.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Get rid of this AviImporter plug-in.
This Quicktime plugin lives in one of several places:
    HD / Library /Quicktime
    HD / System / Library / Quicktime
    or
    HD/ Users / Your Name / Library / Quicktime
Trash it, restart and try import again.

  • Iphoto is stuck in IMPORT mode and will not QUIT!

iphoto is stuck in IMPORT mode and will not QUIT!
please let me know what to do
    the iphoto version is 5.0.1

    Hi ambrosia,
i am afraid that if you force quit right now you will run into problems opening your library when you next try.
If it is at all possible (an I don't even know if this will work while iPhoto is running) open a finder window and navigate to the iPhoto Library folder.
Highlight the folder and hit Command D to duplicate the folder. I am hoping you can do this before any changes are made to the data files that might corrupt them when you force quit iPhoto.
Once you have the duplicate library, then you can see if you can Force quit iPhoto. You can do this if you see the "force quit" option when you click and hold on the iPhoto icon in the dock. You can also launch Activity Monitor and find iPhoto in the window and choose to force quit it from there.
What kind of camera do you have and how many images and or video clips are you trying to download. Sometimes iPhoto gets stuck on very large video clips and eventually they will download.

  • Iphoto'09 doesn't import the video made by Kodak DX6490 since update 10.6

Iphoto'09 doesn't import the video i made on my Kodak DX6490 since i've installed mac os 10.6 with an update from 10.5.8
The videos i made are .mov and with iphoto'09 and Leopard 10.5.8, it was possible to import them.
Have you seen this problem ? Any idea to correct it ?

    TD,
My comment regarding this problem was only meant to support your solution (test), not disparage it.
I was briefly trying to explain that I believe (anecdotally) Snow Leopard is not functioning correctly in regard to movie imports using normal import procedures.
At first I assumed it was a problem with iPhoto 06, and ordered a copy of iLife 09 for my daughter. Then I found this thread and IMHO it confirmed my workaround (kludge) solution. I would wager that she will have the same problem with iPhoto 09.
    It should "just work."
    I will report the outcome.

  • IPhoto 11 not saving imported iPhone 3GS pics after exit

My wife and I both import photos form our iPhone 3GS's into iPhoto 11 (9.1 (475)). Since we want to save them in the same photo library, I moved the iPhoto Library some time ago to my Public folder, so we can both post to it. This has worked fine until installing iPhoto '11. When she imports from her phone, iPhoto says it has imported, and you can see the new pics. When she exits iPhoto, it gives a quick progress bar saying the iPhoto Library is being updated. Then, reopen iPhoto -- the new imported pics are gone. Have repaired permissions, hasn't made a difference. Any ideas please?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

Okay, I've done some more playing around and have had some success with retrieving lost photos.
I did a reveal in finder on a picture that imported from photo booth. It appears that iPhoto '11 has changed the way pictures are stored in the iPhoto library. Instead of being in a folder named the date of the import, there was an "11" folder inside of the "2010" folder that I'm assuming represents November. Inside of that were folders with various numbers that I believe are the days of the month the import was done. Inside of these, I found various folders. Some of these contained the original photos from our camera and retained the name that our camera gives them (begins with "IMG_"). Other photos in these folders had long numerical names and seemed to be photos that either my wife or I had previously published to facebook through iPhoto.
I created a new folder in my home directory in Finder and copied all the original "IMG_" files from the folders that I found. I then did an Import in iPhoto of these copied files, named the events and closed iPhoto. For whatever reason, this time, when I reopened iPhoto, they were still there.
So, this brings up several questions about what's going on. Is iPhoto only loosing pictures imported from the SD card? Is it only loosing pictures that are imported and then immediately uploaded to facebook? Is it loosing pictures that are imported and not given an event name? If we copy the files from the SD card to the Mac's hard drive first and then import, will we not see this problem?
All valid questions that will take some experimenting to do, but maybe what I've found so far will help others recover the photos that aren't showing up for them.
