RAW image import (problem in iphoto and aperture)
either the problem is me (my understanding of what I am trying to do) or something has gone awry with both aperture and iphoto...
when importing RAW images (canon 40d camera) many of which are shot in monochrome and show up as such on the camera (they even show up in b/w on the preview import in iphoto and aperture) ALL images once imported to both iphoto and aperture are in full color. This was not the case on two previous imports (shots taken in b/w RAW imported as b/w RAW images) but now seems to happen every time. I have restarted computed, reimported, checked all settings and nothing is working.
I am missing something, yes? Thanks for any help.no ... you will have to export it as a .tiff or .jpeg ...
and then import into aperture ...
although aperture does have a great monochrome tool worth checking out ...
something to consider is to shoot your monochromes in RAW+JPG and import into aperture ...
see here for working with RAW+JPG:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=380111&tstart=0
when stacked you will have the B&W from in camera and the colour RAW file ... tweak the monochrome mixer until the RAW is to your liking ... you can use the B&W JPG for a baseline ... -
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
This is the message I'm getting when I try to open iphoto. This happened after a member of the genius bar fixed the problem with the download of the update of the Mac OSX combined.Well, I'll guess it's iPhoto 11 then.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

What happens to iPhoto and Aperture access if I do the latest update to iMovie which supports the upcoming Photos app?

Are you using an iPhone or iPad? -
I try to open iphoto and it comes up with You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto. I have downloaded photo manager and it's telling me to update but it wont update...
iPhoto is Apple's included program to manage your photo's and pictures.
It receives updates over time with Software updates and new machine or iLife purchases.
When iPhoto gets updated or a newer version is used, it may alter iPhoto support files, but newer iPhoto versions usually always compatible with older files which it then updates.
If you used a newer iPhoto on your iPhoto support files, then they got altered to the newer format, older iPhoto versions can't read the older format.
Somewhere along the line you somehow got a older version of iPhoto on your computer, you need to fine the newer version of iPhoto (not this photo manager, sounds like another program)
Or somewhere along the line you used a newer iPhoto version (like on another Mac) and it altered the iPhoto support files on your older version of iPhoto.
So the key here is to find the newest version of iPhoto and use that to access your iPhoto support files.
If you didn't access your iPhoto support files from another Mac, then you should have the newer iPhoto version on your computer.
Once you find it, and get it in the Dock, you should remove the older iPhoto version from your computer to prevent this from happening again.
Lastly, if the newer version of iPhoto is somehow gone off your computer, you should be able to get a copy off the latest OS X install disk or iLife using a free program called Pacifist.

Then you need to check for updates for iPhoto in the program itself, the current version is 9.1.2 -
I keep getting this message. What do I do? You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.

Opening iphoto I get an error message that says "you can't open your current photo library using this version of iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto." I wouldn't have a clue as to how to change to a new version of iphoto even if I wanted to.
If you don't have a backup you can resort to give this a try:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library package like this.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

I installed Snow Leopard and have the latest version of iTunes. However, when I connect my iPhone 4S, it charges and iPhoto opens, but iTunes doesn't seem to recognize the iPhone. It simply doesn't appear in the left column. What gives?

I just reinstalled and this is the pop up that shows "You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?" what do i do next? it just keeps popping up and loading but only gives a quit button?
Update it.
How old is your Mac? If it's very recent you need to update via the App Store
If you purchased at the App Store you need to update via the App Store
Otherwise you update via Softare Update

Long story short, I made a backup using TimeMachine of my iMac. I got my MBA which was being repaired and i restored from backup. Everything works fine, except for iPhoto which is not saying:
"You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?"
I have OS X 10.7.2 and iPhoto 9.1.4. I've tried:
Repairing permissions
Deleting iPhoto, installing agaian, and updating
Repaired iPhoto Library (stays stuck at 98% when rebuilding database)
I've also tried iPhoto Library manager which cannot even see the library
Tried restoring from backup from iPhoto and it messed up library (I still had my backup)
Quite frustrating - any ideas on how to get iPhoto back to life?Dunno why Software update was not displaying the latest version of iPhoto (9.2.1 as of January 27, 2012)...updating to this has fixed the issue

My home was recently burgularized and my Intel MacBook Pro was stolen I had a backup but my other computer is a G5 PowerPC running 10.5.8 and I am getting the following error:
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
Obviously I cannot install a newer version of iPhoto on my G5 so what recourse do I have to get my images back?
HelpYou have two options:
Run the Library on a machine that has the same version as the machine that was stolen.
or
Recover the files from this library and start over from scratch.
To recover the files:
Go to your Pictures Folder (or whereever you have the back up) and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Your originals are in the Masters folder.
Note this will only recover your photos as imported from you camera.

I have on my MacBook both iPhoto and Aperture and want to purchase iPhoto for iPad. If I do so, will I be able to see all my MacBook iPhoto progress (places, faces, events, etc) on the iPad app ? Via icloud or some other feature tht work like PhotoStream?
If I do so, will I be able to see all my MacBook iPhoto progress (places, faces, events, etc) on the iPad app ?
just some notes in addition to Ralphs answer: Your iPad is very useful to browse and show off your photos, i.e. the Retina iPad. You can sync to the iPad via iTunes or using the Photo Stream or a shared Photo Stream. But if you can browse and store all your photos on the iPad, will depend on the available storage on your iPad. Using iTunes you can sync events, albums, faces stacks, places stacks to your iPad. Not many metadata tags will transfer however.
See the iPhoto help on what iPhoto can actually do:

Firefox suddenly quit responding one day last week. After re-installing the program (which didn't work) I went to the website and downloaded and installed the latest version. Program does not open (respond) at all. This is on Desktop with XP. Firefox works fine on my laptop which has Windows 7. I am now using Chrome as my browser on the desktop. No problems. I am at a loss as to what happened.
But I can't... find... it... It's not there.
Unless you're talking about the entire Mozilla Firefox folder (which isn't what the thing you copied says,) there is no installation folder. -
How do I rebuild a common library used by both iPhoto and Aperture?
I'm using a common library for both iPhoto and Aperture—latest versions of each and Mavericks. I'm finding photos that are in the library that seem to have fallen out of their events or projects. When I open those events or projects, the folders are empty, however the photos are still in the database. How do I rebuild this library so as to recover my original organization?
it will not matter, if you rebuild in iPhoto or Aperture.
You rebuild the library by launching either Aperture or iPhoto while holding down the key combination⌥⌘ (option-command) and double-clicking the Aperture or iPhoto icon. Keep holding down the keys, until you are seeing the Library First Aid panel. Select to Rebuild the database.
Back up your library before rebuilding.
When I open those events or projects, the folders are empty, however the photos are still in the database. How do I rebuild this library so as to recover my original organization?
Where are you seeing the photos, that are missing from the projects, but are still in the database?
Rebuilding will collect photos, that have lost the connection to the edited versions, and show them in a "Recovered Project". It will not restore them to the original projects, if it is not clear, what where the originals belong to.
Have you checked, if you have filters set, that are hiding the photos? Check the search fields in the browser and the Info panel, if they are cleared and set to "Show All".
