IPhoto events don't update

I want to have the events from my last 3 months iPhoto to automatically update on my phone and pad.    They don't.
After a lot of experimenting, I got them updated by opening iPhoto and then hitting Sync in iTunes with the Photos tab open.    Is that the normal way to do this?    Every time I add photos to iTunes, I need to expliciitly sync?

Yes, it's a bug
I went to my Apple Store and they were really disappointed... they suggested to report this to Apple.
You can submit a bug report for iPhoto here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
Let's hope they'll fix this soon!

  • Recent events don't update on my iDevices

I don't want to use PhotoStream.    But before PhotoStream was available, I did have my most recent iPhoto events synchronize to my iPhone and iPad via iTunes.     These don't update though anymore.    My iPhone is tiny (which is why I don't use PhotoStream) - but I still set up each device to the most recent Events.     But the events I find are old.
What should I look at to see why this doesn't update?

I finally took my computer to the genius bar.    Turning off iPhoto syncing on my iPad and turning it on again fixed it both for my iPad and iPhone.

  • New mail events don't update iCal

When I receive via mac mail an iCal event update, to schedule a new or change an existing event, clicking the event opens iCal but the event is not shown or changes are not applied.
This started with the MobileMe changes in Snow Leopard and I was hoping Lion would solve it, but the behaviour is the same.
I have deleted and recreated my MobileMe calendar or create a calendar synced with Google without result.
    Appreciate help, thank you

Heres's something for you to think about.
I added the same mail box with all of the same details as an IMAP account. The mail.ap allowed me to add the account but just named it "xxxxxx 2".
All of the new email that was missing showed up in the IMAP account.
It has worked on 4 machines so far (only another 16 to do). 3 were POP and they worked fine with the abovestated method.
The other 1 was already IMAP and all I did was press the plus to add another account and all of the mail appeared in the IMAP account as though the threat was enough.
Give it a try - it might work for you too.
    Cheers

  • IPhoto "events" don't transfer to Apple TV

I an a newbie on the iMac. I transferred all my photos from a PC into iPhoto. iPhoto used the folder names as event names.
When I synced with the Apple TV, it transferred all the photos across without problem, but I cannot search on the AppleTv for particular events as the events did not transfer. it seems that AppleTv is looking for albums, something the new iPhoto does not appear to have.
Any ideas on how I can organize my photos in iPhoto so that I can select an "event" (or equivalent) in Apple tv?

Just to add another user experience...
I've used iPhoto for a number of years and bought Apple TV recently. About the same time I moved up to Leopard and iPhoto '08. I really liked the Events feature and spent some time correcting iPhoto's assumptions on how my photo library should be displayed in Events. After doing that, I realized the ATV only sync'd iPhoto Albums and not Events (doh!). Having spent the time re-sorting my photo library, I felt the Events view to be better than my previous library Albums.
I therefore deleted all my existing Albums and replaced them with Smart Albums which essentially replicated all my Events based on the Event Title.
I therefore have my Events listed on ATV even though they really are Smart Albums. It works for now until the next ATV upgrade from Apple which will surely add Event Sync to the ATV (?).

  • My iPhoto Events are not updating in AppleTV.

I can see most recent photos, but the Events stop in June.  I migrated from my original MacMini in June to a new iMac and that seems to be the same timeline as the latest event showing in Apple TV.  Tried realigning both AppleTV (with reset) and toggling the iPhoto/iTunes settings.  Any suggestions?

Thanks, it was set on manual instead of by date (?). Wonder why iphoto help doesn't note that.....  Thanks so much for your help.

  • Iphone mail hyperlink created events don't update to outlook calendar

I created an event using a hyperlink in mail on my iphone. The event never sync'd to my ipad or outlook (active sync and exchange). After a support call to apple(with no results) and spending some time and about $175.00 with an outside IT person, we found the problem. When we deleted the location information, the event would immediately show up in outlook and any other mobile devices syncing to that calendar. I am speculating that there are some characters that either the iphone or exchange does not like in this locaion field. The iphone picked up all of the location characters automatically through the hyperlink in mail. I just started using this hyperlink feature and really like how quickly i can create an event......so much for that unless i delete or clean up the location field.
    Hope this helps someone

there are many posts on this subject.. I myself had the problem and fixed it with a manual and not elegant process... but it works.
Exchange-Outlook have many documented issues with recurring appointments and users with more than one device: either a desktop + laptop or a laptop+smartphone, or laptop+iPhone, etc. The issue gets bigger if there are delegates with access to same account.
Outlook 2007 had many issues to sync with devices (whether or not iPhone was not the issue). they reportedly fixed those issues with Outlook 2007 SP1 released few months ago. After installing that SP1 I had no more problems... until recurring appointments created again that malfunction you describe
AFAIK the best workaround is to manually delete the corrupted recurring appointments. recurring appointments get corrupted very frequently. You can change the view on outlook calendar and show only corrupted appointments or recurring appointments and fix the issues. Not elegant but works.
Dave Whitehouse summarized the process as follows:
"This was my solution to this problem.
I found that my calendar entries were totaling over 86meg. To see your calendar size select Tools, Mailbox Cleanup.., View Mailbox Size.. Then select Close, Close to get out.
To view and delete old calendar entries do the following:
    Select Calendar on the navpane.
Select View, Arrange by, Current View, By Category,
You may sort by End time. Some of my old meetings were several years old and they had attachments. I selected from the top and went down to about a week previous and the pressed the delete key.
I exited Outlook, not sure if this is needed and restarted it. I then sync'd from iTunes and it worked."

  • Updated to Mountain lion, and now iPhoto & iMove don't work. Help!

I updated to Mointain Lion, and now my iPhoto & iMove don't work. I would rather not have to pay for them AGAIN..
The error i get is "You can't open the application 'iPhoto' because thr PowerPC applications are no longer supported"
    Any help greatfully recieved

    Yes.
    Current iPhoto is 9.4.3.
    Current iDVD is 7.1.2
    Current iMovie is 9.0.9
You can either buy iLife 11 which will update or download from the App Store, which doesn't have iDVD.

  • I reinstalled iPhoto but events did not update

I reinstalled iPhoto because I didn't like the photos app. When I did, the events did not update--the last one was April 12. I downloaded my photo stream, thinking that that would get me my most current events, but I just have a mess of photos. How can I get events to recognize everything after April 12?

    Details needed
1 - what exactly did you do? There is no need to reinstall iPhoto as it is no removed by the OS upgrade - you just launch it form the LaunchPad or the application s folder and use it as before
2 - what updates did you expect? If you have imported photos into the Photos application then iPhoto knows nothing about them - you have to import them to iPhoto too
3 - Nothing has changed with PhotoStream what exactly are you seeing?

  • Non-updating iPhoto Events

I upgraded to Leopard a few months ago, backing up my HD and doing a clean install. I'm not sure if this problem has been from the day I upgraded to iLife 08 or has occurred more recently, but now all my new iPhoto events are not showing up in iPhoto. There are some that do appear in Front Row, mostly my oldest events, and all the albums are there, as well as slideshows. The "last import" section shows my current last import, and in all photos all my current photos are there too. The only problem seems to be syncing the actual events. I've tried "rebuild the iPhoto library database", and it didn't seem to do anything in iPhoto or Front Row. Moving the library and making iPhoto find it again also didn't help, and manually reinstalling the Front Row 2.1.2 update did nothing either.
Any ideas on why this is happening, and how I can fix it? Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
You might try deleting the Front Row cache. You can find the folder in this path:
    <Macintosh HD>/Users/<YourUsersShortName>/Library/Caches/com.apple.frontrow/
Delete the com.apple.frontrow folder, log out and then log back in to see if it's helped.

  • IPhoto events and pictures missing from iPhoto after restoring new hard drive and upgrade to iLife11

My iPhoto events and pictures are ALL missing from my iPhoto Library after I tried restoring my programs on a new hard drive AND upgrading to iLife11!  Over the last few months, I upgraded my 2008 Macbook Pro's hard drive from a 250 GB to a 500 GB hard drive and since then have been manually installing and restoring programs and software.  I decided to do things manually because I had problems with doing Time Machine backups/restores in the past, so before I upgraded the drive, I manually saved everything to a Western Digital MyStudio 1 TB hard drive that I had just for the purposes of a second back up.  Anyway, I tried importing the pictures onto the new library, but couldn't find the hard copies at first, so that didn't work.  I then tried deleting the iPhoto Library that came with new operating system, then copying my old backup onto the new hard drive...that didn't work either.  However, when I right clicked on the iPhoto Library icon on my external hard drive (the original) and clicked on "show package contents," the folder not only contained the originals, but they were still organized by year and event just as I had them originally!
So, then I thought "why don't I try just importing the pictures directly into the new iPhoto Library!"
I tested it out, and sure enough, it worked!  I then tried importing an entire folder (which, was actually the name of the event), and again it worked!  So, I literally clicked and dragged my entire 2007-2009 library of pictures (which was about 35 GB) back into my iPhoto Library!  AND, this only took about 30 minutes to download, enough time for me to write this post and the following instructions to Recap:
              1. Open your new iPhoto Library
              2. Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
              3. Click on "Show Package Contents"
              4. Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
              5. Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
              6. DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reaseon, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
I assume this could work on other iLife programs, but luckily I have MobileMe and my iCalendar updated itself, though I did have to do some tweeking...
Hope this helps other people out, GOOD LUCK!

I'm re-posting the answer to this problem so I can show it has been answered:
    Open your new iPhoto Library
Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
    Click on "Show Package Contents"
Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reason, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
              GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Cannot select landscape photos as a desktop background from iPhoto events.

In the desktop preferences screen, when choosing a desktop background, I am able to see all of the normal options at the left. However, when I choose an image from the "iPhoto Albums" section, only vertically oriented images work. Landscape-oriented images don't update to the background (I get the basic Apple Blue.)
It appears to randomly effect my iPhoto albums, as some events have the problem, some do not, regardless of date of event or camera used.
When I add a folder and select the file manually (from the option at the bottom of the list), I have no problems... all images look fine.
I should also add that I do not allow iPhoto to manage my images, I manage my Photos folder and have the "Copy photos into the iPhotos library" option turned OFF.
I'm not sure if this is an iPhoto '08 problem or a Leopard problem, as I upgraded both at the same time during a fresh install.
PS - I've done most of the other trouble shooting things on Apple's support site, like creating a new iPhoto album and reimporting known problem-images, fixing permissions, re-creating the albumdata.xml file, etc. I even removed special characters from the Event Names and reset my keywords (I wasn't using them, anyway...)
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    SIGH
Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not fix the problem. Since the general population uses iPhoto with the "copy files to the iphoto library" option turned ON, I decided to offload my images to an external drive and create a new library on my laptop, letting iPhoto do the organizing. (This is a big step for me, being an ex-windows user!)
A sample of images imported to the new iPhoto library seemed to register fine with the finder. Changing desktop images in the desktop prefs panel worked fine. All seems well and I'm looking forward to not having to manage the image folders and simply letting iPhoto import directly from the SD cards I use in my DSLR...
    EXCEPT...
I can't seem to get through an import session without Leopard crashing on me. I get the dreaded dark-gray waterfall and the "please restart your computer" message in 65 different languages. Admittedly, I'm importing 5000+ images from an external FW800 drive, but still!
So here's my question to y'all:
Do I start importing a folder at a time and keep my fingers crossed, or should I consider a fix more drastic (like re-installing iPhoto?) Does this even sound like an iPhoto problem? Do I have a deeper issue (like a bad install of Leopard?) Or, is this just early-adopter syndrome with brand-new versions of iLife and Leopard, and I need to deal with it until Apple patches the holes?
I've had this system crash on me 5 times in the last three days, and it's getting old. What is this, Vista?

  • IPhoto 09 Freeze While Updating Library.....Everytime

I recently bought a Macbook Pro 15" 2.4GHz and installed iLife 09. On my previous computer (Powerbook 12" 1GHz) I was running iPhoto 2.0.1. I had copied that entire HD to an external drive. I plugged in the external drive to my new Powerbook and copied the User>Pictures>iPhoto Library Folder to appropriate location on the new HD. When starting up iPhoto 09, I got the message that it needed to update the library. Every attempt I made resulted in iPhoto freezing with the "Updating photo library...Time remaining" message. It often froze with the same amount of time remaining. I have tried several remedies: I deleted the com.apple.iphoto.plist from the preferences folder. I also tried to use BatChmod after following instructions in another forum, but that didn't seem to help. I also downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and used its rebuild function. This appeared to work and all the pictures are present (minus about thirty, but I think they were duplicates), but all 7,000+ got imported with the same date (DEC 31 2000) and were randomly arranged into about a dozen Events. Also, none of the Albums were transported. I don't have time to individually rearrange all the photos and rebuild all the albums. I would be happy solving either one of the problems. Thanks.

Thanks for responding Larry. I tried that, but unfortunately it did not work.
Based on what I read in some other threads, I tried forcing iPhoto to rebuild the library by holding command-option while starting iPhoto, but that did the exact same thing. I ended up downloading iPhoto Library Manager and using that to rebuild the library, which worked. There was one photo that could not be copied over (corrupted file or something), so that's probably what was making iPhoto hang. Luckily my mom had a backup on a CD.

  • IPhoto events sync incorrectly

I have a Mac (OS X VERSION 10.6.8). In May my iPhoto events began to sync incorrectly to my iPhone 4. Pictures are correct in iPhoto, but wrong when I sync them.
I have iTunes version 10.3.1 and iPhoto '11 version 9.1.3.
I am scared to sync my iPad2 because I don't want my photos messed up there also.
    Please help!

Posted this before I realised there is an update for the iPhoto app 9.1.3 which sorts the problem.

  • HT204487 iPhoto Event Driven Smart Folders Destroyed in Photos

I have 10 smart albums based on named events in iPhoto that don't even show up in Photos.  I have 20 more smart albums that came across but not one folder have the correct pictures.  I know that I can use iPhoto but the last update of that app no longer puts the photos in the correct order so that's broken also!  Is there any way to reconstruct event driven smart folders in Photos?  This is a two year project with hundreds of photos that for the most part is ruined.

NEVER MIND - I found a way to resolve the issue.
