IPhoto file locations??? Actual file or just a "shortcut" ??? PLEASE HELP
I don't know why but this confuses me, I recently realized I can use iPhoto just as i use iView Media as an organized photo album. Currently I have all my pictures stored on my HD in multiple folders (by year, topic, event, etc.) Thru iView Media I can drag the folders and it makes a mirrored image...it does not create a second file of the same size. When I tried doing this thru iPhoto I have noticed that it creates files the same size (maybe a little smaller) than the original. Can this be stopped so it's just a "mirrored shortcut" to the original file??? In my advanced preferences I do not have the check-box clicked to "copy to the iphoto library". Please help....

Are you sure that that box is unchecked in iPhoto's Advanced Preference section. I've seen it get checked after an update to iPhoto was run as it is the default state. If you've deleted the preference file for any reason that would reset that option.
When you import a folder into iPhoto in the alias mode all that gets created are the alias files, thumbnail files and a modified file if the photo was a portrait orientated photo taken by a camera that has the auto-rotate capability. The database file, Library6.iPhoto, also gets updated. That file can become rather large depending on the number of albums, books, slideshows, etc. that are in the library.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Yes - well you have to make the file in a word processing Application.
You could use TextEdit (it's free) Pages (words only), or Numbers (data base) (they are part of iWorks - and may or may not be free (included) on your machine. You could use MS Office (it is not free) You could use any Open source word processor that plays well with Office (NeoOffice, StarOffice) they are free.
That's how you create content and copy/paste URLS. Then you save the file to the desktop. If you are going to make more than one file... you make a folder on the desktop and save, or drag the file(s) into it.
You attach it to your e-mail client which will compress it and e-mail it. An excellent reference is to use Help, from the menu bar, also from inside any application. From your library or book store the OS X for Dummies has a lot of useful information (you don't read it cover to cover but look up chapters about what you'd like to do)
You can also make appointments at your local Apple store for individualized help (if a store is nearby) -

i cant use the highlight, underline, or strikethrough function in a specific pdf file. The file isnt locked. I used to highlight texts from that file before the latest update. The problem occurs only with that file. Urgent need. Please help. Thanks!

Thank you for the tip on exporting by media browser (large) from imovie. But of course, if it's not one thing it's another. Now that I figured how to export a large file from imovie, I have an idvd issue. I followed the instructions for burning from idvd and changing the encoding to professional quality and the burn speed to x4, but I am receiving an error that states the following,
Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Info window.
Project:
- total project duration: 79:04 minutes
- total project capacity: 4.327 GB (max. available: 4.172 GB)
Menus:
- number of menus in project: 1 menus
- total menu duration: 0:39 minutes
- total menu capacity: 37.370 MB
Movies:
- total movies duration: 78:25 minutes
- total movies capacity: 4.291 GB
I have searched in the idvd forum for similar issues and I am stumped at this point. I have tried deleting the encoding assets and re launching idvd with the changed preferences, and still the same error. I know you mentioned something about free hard drive space available, and I have very little left. 4GB to be exact due to massive hours of non-edited footage. I am not sure if this is why, but I do not recall ever needing free space to burn memory onto a separate dvd. I would be more than happy if I am wrong, and it would be a quick fix. Otherwise, the technical nightmare continues. It's all a learning process and your expertise is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. -

i can't read in Mavericks DVDs and Bluray data burn with UDF system files burn with Snow Leopard, please help me. Thanks
They are DVDs with video files from a little more than 2 GB per file, were burned in Snow Leopard, with UDF file system, now that I updated to Mavericks when I try to read disks displays the directory in the finder a moment and then disappear and does not display them show them more. It is impossible to read the discs, but only those who were burned with UDF file system. Thank you for your help.

Nope. I do the same exact thing. If you have DVD's and blu-rays you can't download a free application called Handbrake. You can set it to Apple TV2 automatic format and they will come out as playable m4v's that can play I'm iTunes. All you have to do is turn on Home Sharing in both iTunes and your Apple RV and you'll be good to go!

When i click on 'Show all in Finder' after searching for anything on spotlight, NOTHING happens! NO Finder window opens up and the spotlight dropdown menu just shuts! Please help!
I'm having the same problem in other places as well, for example when i downloaded Easyfind right now, clicking the small magnifying glass button on the right of the file name (shown below) would usually open up finder highlighting the file, but now nothing happens when i click on that button!

Try signing out of your account and restart your iPad.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID and tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store> Apple ID and sign in again. -
I have the version of iPhoto that comes with my OS when I purchased my MacBook, but now I can't open it, because it says this, "You can’t open the application “iPhoto” because it may be damaged or incomplete. Please help I have tons of family photos.
1 - the iPhoto application is an application and does not hole your photos - your photos are in the iPhoto library an dour normal daily backup will back them up so your photos are safe
2 - what exactly does the error message say? You probably need to reinstall the iPhoto application form the original source
3 - note that no version of iPhoto comes with any OS - iPhoto comes with all new Macs but not with any OS and most OS versions can run many different versions of iPhoto

If this works you will see the normal desktop Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless it has been renamed). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out.
