IPhoto freezes when asked to print contact sheet.

iPhoto had been working fine (well, as fine as iPhoto can be expected to work ) including printing off contact sheets, until it just stopped being able to do the latter.
It got stuck on the 'processing page 1' loading bar, and then what I assumed to be an error message appeared, except that I couldn't read it because it was so frozen that all the text was garbled. Then it printed out the second and last page of the contacts fine but the first page appeared extremely faded - to the point that the images weren't actually discernible.
Have repeated this process 3 or 4 times to see if it worked but with the same result each time. Only force quit enables me to exit. Recently purged my iPhoto of 99% of its content in the hope it would speed up, so I can't imagine it has anything to do with that.
I hate iPhoto. That aside, can anyone help?
Thanks

Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.
3 - try the contact sheet again.
Are you able to Save as PDF in the Print window and what does the PDF look like if you do.

  • IPhoto freezes when asked to print (via Airport) to HP 5550

Please help frustrated of Ely! iPhoto (6.0.2) is refusing to print to my HP 5550, which hangs off my Airport Express. Other apps print fine, both from the (new and with latest drivers) iMac and other machines on the home network. On my previous G4 Mac (running 10.3.9), iPhoto sometimes printed and sometimes stuttered half way through a job. I assumed this was a network problem, possibly the old (and slower) Airport card in the G4. But the on the new iMac, it is even worse - just spinning beachball whenever you ask iPhoto to print. Must be an iPhoto problem? Any clues? I have changed the drivers, and re-set the printer utility several times.

in case anyone is interested, this turned out to be a printer drive problem

  • IPhoto freezes when trying to print small size photos

I'm trying to print the smallest sized photo. Everytime I ask it to print it freezes and I have to force quit. If I print a bigger sized photo, such as 4X6, it works fine. Earlier in the day I was able to print the small photos. I've trashed the plist and restarted but it's still doing it.

The settings that I show in the screen shot give you, as owner, complete access to that folder and all files inside. I also set my admin name as the group because I'm the only user on the computer and set others are read only. As long as you have read and write access you good to go. Then the bottom check boxes apply those permissions and will unlock any file that may have inadvertently been locked.
You can set the permissions a different way as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.

  • IPhoto freezes when ordering photo

As of today - 29 May 2012, iPhoto freezes when ordering photo prints with the message..
'There was a problem communicating with the Apple Online Store. Please try again.'
I had to 'Force quit' iPhoto to continue.
OK, so maybe the store is down but surely that should not affect the software on both of my computers?

It's OK now - I see the store is open again - but it does seem odd that lack of store makes te application freeze solid!

  • How on Earth do you Print Contact Sheet in Landscape Orientation in the new iPhoto?

Just upgraded to Maverick and new iPhoto and boy am I sorry.  In the last version of of iPhoto it was really difficult to print 4 to a page contact sheets from iPhoto in landscape mode.  Why would you want to print in any othe mode when most photos are taken in landscape?
Pleae help as I have to print these photos ASAP for a client.

First set the page size to letter- borderless. Next after selecting the Contact theme click on the Print Settings button and reset the page size to 11 wide and 8.5 high.
Finally set the columns to 2 which will give you this:
To test it without having to print each time use the PDF ➙ Save as PDF menu option.  If all looks good you can print from the PDF file.
There's no provision for adding a title at the top of the page.  However, create a TextEdit, Word, Pages, etc., document, put the title at the top and print over the printed contact sheet.

  • Printing contact sheet from iPhoto

How can I print a contact sheet from iPhoto that retains the order of photos in my album?
I've placed the photos of which I want to make a contact sheet in their own album.  I've organized them according to how I'd like them to print.  However, when I go to print/contact sheet/custom to set the number of images per page and hit the print button, the photos are reorganized according the the main photo folder into which the images were originally imported - that is to say, by date order.

My printer does support landscape and portrait printing. It is the latest version of iPhoto 9.5.3 that only offers a minimal choice of printer, paper size and paper type. There are no formatting options available other than "Fit, Fill, Custom, 20x25cm, 13x18cm, 10x15cm and contact sheet". Another example of Appple degrading software to make it iOS compatible!
Perhaps Apple should be reading what their customers are complaining about and do something to restore the quality of their downgraded software.

  • Iphoto freezes when I try to print a picture

Why does iPhoto freeze when I try to print a photo?  I have to force the program closed.

That was a test to determine if the original library was damaged and it was.  You did follow the next step but there's one more fix you can try on your damaged library:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Unable to print Contact Sheets from iPhoto

    Hi there,
Since installing Lion 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro I no longer get the option to print Contact Sheets from iPhoto. I'm running quite an old version of it I think (Version 6.0.6), however this was no problem before the upgrade.
Can anyone suggest a solution for this?
    Thanks in advance.

I just fired up my iPhoto 6.0.6 under Mt. Lion and I have no contact option in that version either.  You'll have to upgrade to at least iPhoto 7 (08) in order to get contact sheets back.  So you might as well upgrade to the latest iPhoto from the App Store.
If you also want the latest versions of iWeb and iDVD (which have been discontinued by Apple) you'll have to purchase a copy of the iLife 11 disc from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: iLife 11.

  • When I make a contact sheet on Iphoto is it possible to put a title on top of the page, that is not a title of one of the photos?

Is it possible to put a title on top of the page in a contact sheet on Iphoto?

No.  But you can create a text file for TextEdit, Word, Pages or other text application that you use, put a title at the top and print it on the already printed contact sheet.  Just make the top margin in iPhoto's contact layout  large enough so the title can be printed there by the other app.

  • I've added caption information to my files, but not all the information prints when I try to print contact sheets.  Please advise.

I've added caption information to my files and when I go to print contact sheets, not all of the caption information will print.  Is there some limit on information for captions?  I've added several lines of information.  Thanks for your assistance.
    Regards,
    Alan

    HI Leonie,
Thanks for the input.  I checked it out and you are correct in that only 3 lines of information can be printed.  I've adjusted my information for 3 line s and it works.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can I print contact sheets from Iphoto or aperture with file names?

I can not figure out nor am I sure it can be done with these programs but if someone out there can tell me how I would be very happy. I have several jobs I need contacts on I have been printing contact sheets and then handwriting the file numbers. To old fashion for me. HELP

    1. In the browser pane in Aperture, select the images you need.
    2. File>Print...
    3. On the left-hand side of the print dialog, click on 'Sample Contact Sheet Preset'.
    4. In the layout options there is a drop-down menu for which metadata set you want to show below the images. You may get away with using 'Name Only' which gives you the current Version Name, otherwise you may have to make a new metadata set* containing just the filename.

  • Cannot print contact sheet

I have not been able to find anything about this problem with a search.
I cannot print a contact sheet with iphoto 4.0.3. When ever I try to print, the print will start to print the top line and then stop after 2 passes and freeze.
I used to be able to print contact sheets .... but have not printed one for about a year now.
I want to back up photos with a contact sheet to go with the disk.

Trashing the iPhoto preferences file (com.apple.iPhoto.plist) is a place to start, but I suspect since the printer starts the job and doesn't finish it, you likely have some corruption in your photo library database.
If the first suggestion doesn't resolve the issue, start iPhoto while holding the option+shift keys and hold the keys until your prompted to confirm your intention to rebuild. Click "Yes", then click "Save".
If the rebuild is successful and you're happy with it, trash the original iPhoto Library folder to free-up disk space.

  • Printing Contact Sheets

    Hello
I am trying to print a 4.5 x 5.75 contact sheet of 8 images, which I have saved as a preset. I have printed this many times in the past but this time I am getting a error message (which appears in the print dialog box too quickly for me to read.)
Anyways it seems to be isolated to printing contact sheets. If I try to print a single image from Aperture there is no problem. I have tried rebuilding my Aperture library, tried rebooting, but don't know what else to try?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help.

    Miklos:
One poster pointed out that you could create a book using the Year Book theme. There you can select to have anywhere from 1 to 32 images per page and include the file names underneath the photos if desired. Then print the book to PDF and then print each page to hardcopy. Don't know if that will reduce your overall assembly time but you will be able to have the file names or titles printed also.
Another way is to create an html gallery, display in Safari and then print. Here's how:
    Creating Contact Sheet with Titles
1 - Put the files you want to print in an album and arrange in the order you'd like.
2 - Go to the File->Export->Web Page menu option.
3 - While in the Web page window, select the number of thumbnails you'd like across each page (iPhoto will keep you informed on how many pages it will take).
4 - Click on Show Title under thumbnails and click on Export. Then select the location where you'd like the resulting files to be saved (create a temporary folder to contain them).
5 - Once saved, go the folder and open the index.html file with your browser. You will get a page with your thumbnails and titles beneath them.
6 - Print that browser page and you've got your contact sheet with file names (or comments if desired).
If you want more control over the thumbnail gallery, try using BetterHTMLExport or Galerie
    Good luck.

  • Printing Contact Sheets in Elements 5.0

When printing contact sheets is it possible to also print file #'s or a number of my choosing under the pictures? I've been able to do this with previous versions but can't seem to find it in version 5. Thanks for any help...

Having chosen Contact Sheet as the Type of Print, you can choose to print File name.
Whether the file name contains a number useful for this purpose probably depends on your workflow.
Personally, I would not consider another choice - Caption - useful for this purpose because the caption is a permanent part of the photo file and does not seem applicable for a specific contact sheet. Yet there are some cases where it might work.

  • Iphoto freezes when trying to upload photos

    Hi everyone,
Being new to the mac world (VERY new... I just bought my computer on Friday), I am already having problems with uploading photos. I uploaded everything from my digital camera fine, but then when I tried to upload my Easter pictures, everything freezes and I am forced to quit the application. Apples help line of closing at 6pm pacific time is not helping my matter. Can any one help me??
    Thank you!

Your photos are safe inside the iPhoto Library package. You may be able to recover them by on of these ways:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
