IPhoto ignores Nikon pictures

I have heard about that before... I mean, I know we are not in the 50th century and everything is really new but I'm getting old and after having trouble with cassettes, then CDs that wouldn't play in some players, now after 40 years of developement... Geeeeeezzz... I bought that idiot camera Nikon coolpix from W-mart and the last thing I would expect, that my Mac Book Pro or/and my G4 would have problems to import those pictures or store them in a proper way so they still are pictures and not phantoms.
Before I spill some more of my frustration about manmade products and the whole digital mistake (comcast just changed our TV to digital - hooray, we haven't had stalling and sound fall outs before but it's digital now...), I'd like to know if anybody knows a fix for those Nikon pics that are not pics.
My wife edited 1600 pictures, took her only 6 weeks, now she wants to send some to different friends.
From highlighted ones about 60% is loading into mail, the rest is showing 0KB. Exporting to desktop as Original and reimporing into iPhoto doesn't do anything, causes the same thing. Plus she would have to spend another 3 weeks doing that...
Is there a chance to have those pictures reinstated or did we lose them ? We don't have copies on memory cards, all we have is pics on 3 computers..
Thanks in advance and big thanks to Apple here. Advanced Technology...

Then how about answering the results to the test TD requested you run
No, that was a test, not a solution.
Go back to the main account and this time, boot into Safe Mode and see if you can edit one of the affected photos.
Can you edit in safe mode?

  • Snow Leopard conflict with Nikon Picture Project

Since installing Snow Leopard, I cannot run Nikon Picture Project. When I attempt to start the program, the Picture Project icon appears activated, but the application shuts down before it ever opens. How do I resolve this? I have several picture projects saved within this application and want to access them.

Ditto. Quite frustrating. So, okay, I need to use a new product and move my photos into it. However, I'd like to retain my photos, exactly as organized in folders and albums, as well as its data (camera type, focus, white balance etc.). How can I do that? I tried copying into iphoto, but I can't keep all the detail I need. Do you know what product, Nikon or otherwise, free preferably, would take my old photos out of picture project easily?
Any help would be very appreciated,
    Marisa
Hi t_lscneider & welcome to discussions.
I found the same - while I wait for Nikon to update (rumored to happen in 01/10), I've fallen back on just using the latest Nikon Transfer & iPhoto.

  • Iphoto 9.6 Pictures Gone

I recently upgraded to Iphoto 9.6 on Yosemite. When I open Iphoto all my pictures are gone. When I look in "finder" I can see the file called "Iphoto library" and it still shows that I have 18GB of photos in that file. However when I try to import the file to Iphoto or simply try to open it nothing happens. Iphoto simply opens and still my photos are not displayed.
I am thinking iphoto did not properly upgrade the photos when I updated the software. Someone please help!

I believe I updated from the original iPhoto version that came with the Mac Pro 5 years ago.
Can you check that by looking at a backup of the old iPhoto application?
If you upgraded from iPhoto '08 - version 7.1.2 or earlier, your iPhoto library needs be prepared for the update by running the iPhoto Library Upgrader, see the link for this document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
If your iphoto was newer, try the Library First Aid options, that photosb189 mentioned, but be sure to make a backup of your iPhoto library first.

  • I have several albums in a folder in iphoto.  The pictures are ordered, labeled, and dated. I want to put them on an external hard drive and have them stay in order w/labels. How can I do that?  Thank You

I have several "albums" in a "folder "in iphoto.  The pictures, and videos (from a camera and smart phone) are ordered, labeled, and dated. I want to put them on an external harddrive. How can I do that and keep them in order, etc. What I have tried reorders them, separates them into the camera pictures, phone pictures, and movies. We are not sauvy in Apple or iphoto so this has been extremely frustrating for us.

Files on disk have no order - they are given the order by the viewing program - finder on the Mac - using the finder you can view files by many different sorts - file name - date created - date moified - size - etc
Deciede how you are going to sort them when you view them and then export them so that sort works for you
Generally using an alpha sort to view and exporting using the sequential nameing option is the solution - see the user tip on exporting for the options available

  • IPhoto events and pictures missing from iPhoto after restoring new hard drive and upgrade to iLife11

My iPhoto events and pictures are ALL missing from my iPhoto Library after I tried restoring my programs on a new hard drive AND upgrading to iLife11!  Over the last few months, I upgraded my 2008 Macbook Pro's hard drive from a 250 GB to a 500 GB hard drive and since then have been manually installing and restoring programs and software.  I decided to do things manually because I had problems with doing Time Machine backups/restores in the past, so before I upgraded the drive, I manually saved everything to a Western Digital MyStudio 1 TB hard drive that I had just for the purposes of a second back up.  Anyway, I tried importing the pictures onto the new library, but couldn't find the hard copies at first, so that didn't work.  I then tried deleting the iPhoto Library that came with new operating system, then copying my old backup onto the new hard drive...that didn't work either.  However, when I right clicked on the iPhoto Library icon on my external hard drive (the original) and clicked on "show package contents," the folder not only contained the originals, but they were still organized by year and event just as I had them originally!
So, then I thought "why don't I try just importing the pictures directly into the new iPhoto Library!"
I tested it out, and sure enough, it worked!  I then tried importing an entire folder (which, was actually the name of the event), and again it worked!  So, I literally clicked and dragged my entire 2007-2009 library of pictures (which was about 35 GB) back into my iPhoto Library!  AND, this only took about 30 minutes to download, enough time for me to write this post and the following instructions to Recap:
              1. Open your new iPhoto Library
              2. Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
              3. Click on "Show Package Contents"
              4. Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
              5. Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
              6. DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reaseon, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
I assume this could work on other iLife programs, but luckily I have MobileMe and my iCalendar updated itself, though I did have to do some tweeking...
Hope this helps other people out, GOOD LUCK!

I'm re-posting the answer to this problem so I can show it has been answered:
    Open your new iPhoto Library
Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
    Click on "Show Package Contents"
Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reason, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
              GOOD LUCK!!!

  • I just downloaded iPhoto 9.5 to replace my old ver. 7.x.  Downloaded the library upgraded but have no idea where it installed as it is not listed in Applications.  Opened iPhoto added my Library (12.5 GB) but iPhoto shows no pictures.

I just downloaded iPhoto 9.5 to replace my old ver. 7.x.  Downloaded the library upgraded but have no idea where it installed as it is not listed in Applications.  Opened iPhoto added my Library (12.5 GB) but iPhoto shows no pictures. In fact, iPhoto indicates that I have zero photos in the library while at the same time indicating the file size as 12.5 GB.

If your old iPhoto version was iPhoto 7, you need to run the iPhoto Library upgrader:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1523
It will install itself in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder.
Run it, and after that, you should be able to open your iPhoto Library with iPhoto '11.

  • IPhoto launches with pictures showing then quits

I am using iPhoto 4.03 with OS 10.3.9, it has never given me any problems until I installed the latest Security Update from Apple. The first time I went to launch IPhoto after the install it quit on start up, then came up with the dialog box asking if I wanted to send a bug report to Apple. I have tried all the fixes mention in these Discussions. Rebuilding IPhoto, removing iPhoto plist. preferences, removing the three thumbnails, removing iPhoto folder from pictures folder, ran utilities repairing permissions. IPhoto did launch when I used a different account but as soon as I tried to import new pictures it crashed.
    i mac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   192 MB SDRAM

    Chuck,
If you've repaired permissions and the (mis)behavior of iPhoto is similar when accessed from separate user accounts, then I would be tempted to reinstall the application, and see if that changes anything.
If you choose to reinstall, make sure you delete the iPhoto receipts .pkg (from the Library folder) before the reinstallation, and don't forget to pay a visit to Software Updates (in the Apple Menu) after the reinstall.

  • Why is it that even after editing a picture under iPhoto, the original picture is still the file that is being exported?

Why is it that even after editing a picture under iPhoto, the original picture is still the file that is being exported?

because you are exporting the original?
SInce you give us no information at all we can only guess and that is the most likely
How are you editing the photo - iPhoto? An external editor? How?
    how are you exporting?

  • How do I download my Nikons pictures into Elements?

How do I download my Nikons pictures into Elements?

    Hi,
Insufficient data to give a precise answer.
Which operating system are you running on?
Which version of Photoshop Elements are you using?
Which camera model are the images from?
If you are shooting in raw (NEF) format it depends very much on the version of elements and the camera model.
This might help if you are new to elements

  • IPhoto library or pictures folder

While trying to back up my photos to Sugarsync service I realized that my iphoto library and pictures folder have disappeared.  I have backed up all my photos to an external drive and they are still on my computer so I am not frantic.  I can not find the library or the pictures folder though.  I am using Macbook Air and the newest version of iphoto.

TD - did as you said, selected the photo, reveal in finder
all the photos now appear on the right side of the screen with a green check
On the the left side of the screen:
    favories
    shared
    devices
       remote disc
This would appear to mean that my photos are on some remote disc/server?  I am an icloud user but my photos are not there,  I also do not save them to itunes.  I have been using a backup service - Sugarsync and had been saving my photos there as a backup.  Do you think they are all there now and none of them are on my computer?
Sorry, hate to ask all these questions.

  • IPhoto and Nikon NEF files in Yosemite

    Hello,
Since I installed Yosemite last weekend, I cannot upload photos from my Nikon D610 NEF (RAW) format. Every time I have tried to upload -either by connecting the camera with the cable or by inserting the memory card in the Macbook- iPhoto starts to idle when I click "import photos". Beach ball appears and after several minutes iPhoto crashes. I use a Macbook Pro 2.8Ghz, intel core i7, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 (late 2011). I even tried doing it one by one... same problem.
Is this a problem that Apple is going to solve: NEF or RAW compatibility with iPhoto and Nikon files? Does anyone now how long for this to get fixed by Apple? I have hundreds of photos in my memory card to upload and work with.
    Thank you.

Support for your camera was added in Camera Raw 5.4 which means support will be available in PSE7 and automatically in versions 8, 9 & 10.

  • Will LR 5.3 read Nikon picture controls applied to RAW files in-camera?

I've never used picture controls on my D4 because my understanding was that, even though they're embedded in RAW files in-camera, only Nikon software will read the data.  Can anyone verify this condition for me?  If my LR software will read these settings, then I would start experimenting a bit!

As Andrew said, Lightroom won't read Nikon picture controls, so if you want similar picture style as shot, you need to either:
    * manually select camera emulation profile (you can make presets or defaults as you prefer) - see camera calibration section.
    * use a plugin like ISO Detailer to select camera emulation profile automatically based on camera setting.
To be clear: *any* software can read any metadata in a NEF (or NRW) that it wants to (there is no legal or technical reason that is prohibitive). Still, it is proprietary, which means "subject to change without notice", which means you have to change your software if Nikon decides to change proprietary metadata around. In practice that almost NEVER happens, since it's defined by camera firmware which, once debugged, isn't "enhanced". (right: they could do a newer model differently, but that doesn't affect the code which supports older models).

  • *problem shown with images* Iphoto deleted my pictures, unable to see them in iPhoto Library Manager either

Hello everyone! First post here. I have searched endless amount of forums and finally decided to post my problem.
Today my images from Iphoto went missing. When I tried to open the iphoto app, it gave me an error that the files were unreadable and therefore not imported.
Then I tried to rebuild iphoto by holding down option and command. I tried every option and it would still show my iphoto as 0 pictures.
I tried to view my images by going to the show packages option but it doesnt display the masters or originals files..
lastly I downloaded the Iphoto library manager and it was able to detect my pictures, but I could not see them or import/rebuild the library.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? When I tried to view the images it also shows a white triangle with a question mark in the middle. I beleiev the caption also says missing.tiff. Any help would be appreciated. I just recently got my macbook air so I have not done any backups.

I also noticed that my photo booth pictures got deleted as well. I'm trying to recover images through a recovery software and it does give me the option to look at the masters file, but there is nothing in there...
Also how could the Iphoto manager show that I have the 900 pictures? even though I am unable to actually see the image.. Could it be these pictures formats were changed somehow?
