IPhoto Library Upgrader is not working for me.

I am running a Mac Mini 2.5 GHz Core i5.  (This is the base model of the current Mac mini as of August 2013.)  Running 10.8.4.
I am trying to get iPhoto to run with an old photo library from iPhoto 4.  (Yes, really.  It's a long story.)  I was happy to see that Apple put out iPhoto Library Upgrader, because I was expecting to have a hard time upgrading.  But it's not working for me.  I downloaded the Upgrader and ran it (several times).  However, when I try to start iPhoto from the old library, I still get the "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared."
To save you from asking the obvious questions:
1.  I ran the Upgrader, instead of just downloading it.
2.  I am sure I selected the old library to be upgraded.
3.  The Upgrader runs, tells me it's done, and asks me if I want to launch iPhoto.  When I say yes (or when I just launch iPhoto separately), I get the error message again.
4.  iPhoto will not let me launch with the command option keys pressed.  I still get the error message.
5.  I can launch with the option key pressed, but if I select the old library, I get the error message.
6.  I can import the old library, but then I lose all my organization of photos.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Nathan

Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to open the "upgraded" libraryu again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • My iPhoto library won't open because "it first needs to be prepared," but running the iPhoto Library Upgrader does not change anything.  What gives?

I'll try to be as detailed as I can:
I have a mid-2010 iMac.  I backed-up and then wiped my Mountain Lion hard drive so that I could have a clean install of Mavericks.  I am now in the process of importing my backed-up files, like iTunes and documents, from my external back-up to my new Mavericks machine.  Everything in this process has worked so far.  I moved the iPhoto library over from the external back-up to the proper location (Users->Pictures->iPhoto Library).  Two hours later when the transfer was complete, rather than having a normol iPhoto Library icon (stack of pictures with a photo of a flower), the library appeared as a folder with a half done progress bar and an "x" close button in the corner.
This library would not open so I deleted it and started the whole thing over.  Two hours later, same thing.  I then restarted my machine and got a regularl looking iPhoto Library icon, but now when I try to open it I get a prompt that says "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first nees to be prepared: to prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader avaliable from Apple."  I downloaded the iPhoto Library Upgrader from Apple, ran it, and it says that the library has been updated and can now be used.  But when I try to open iPhoto, I hit the same problem, iPhoto doesn't open and I instead get a prompt saying that the library needs to be prepared.
One more thing, when I run the iPhoto Library Upgrader, there is a un-progressing progress bar (a sideways barber shop poll) that says the program is building thumbnails, but then Upgrader gives me a prompt that the library has been upgraded (even though the progress bar is still cranking along).  PLEASE HELP.

What version of iPhoto were you running prior to Mavericks?  First boot into Revovery volume (boot with the Command  + R keys held down) and repair the disk and disk permissions.  Then reboot back into Mavericks.
Two hours later when the transfer was complete, rather than having a normol iPhoto Library icon (stack of pictures with a photo of a flower), the library appeared as a folder with a half done progress bar and an "x" close button in the corner.
There was a problem with copying the older iPhoto library from the backup.  Delete the library and drag it once again from the backup drive to the Pictures folder.  Run the upgrader again. Is this what you see when your first launch the upgrader?

    Hi there,
Following the EP 7.0 migration, the UWL is not working for PCR approvals.  Following the registration of the WebFlowConnector, using the default configuration, clicking a PCR approval item in the Inbox brings up the following error:

  • Database Upgrade Agent not working for upgrading Oracle 9i DB to Oracle 10i

    Hi All,
Presently I have completed my Oracle 10i installation on Solaris Server but I am facing an issue during the upgrade process of Oracle 9i to 10g. Whenever I try to upgrade the 9i databases to 10g using DBUA(Database Upgrade assistant) I am facing an issue that Data base not running from oracle home or pfile not found. The exact error message says:-
The upgrade assistant failed in bringing up the database XIPCOTS. Oracle Home /opt/apps/home/oracle9i/product/releases/92/92 obtained from file /var/opt/oracle/oratab was used to connect to the database. Either the database is not running from Oracle Home /opt/apps/home/oracle9i/product/releases/92/92 or the correct Initialisation parameter file (pfile) was not found. To start the database , Oracle needs the pfile. Provide the full path name of the init file for the database XIPCOTS.
In reality the XIPCOTS database is running fine in Oracle 9i and we can connect it using PL/SQL developer in windows.I have also provided the path of pfile but it is still not accepting the same.
    Path of pfile I provided :- /XIP/ofaroot/XIPCOTS/pfile/initXIPCOTS.ora
Any help or suggestions would be greately appreciated.
Our both Oracle 9i and 10g are installed on same Solaris server where solaris version is 9
    Installation path for 9i :- /opt/apps/home/oracle9i/product/releases/92/92
    Installation path for 10g :- /opt/apps/home/oracle/product/releases/10201
    Oracle 9i version :- 9.2.0.7
    Oracle 10g version :- 10.2.01
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,

Can you please mention the specific folder name under oracle home where we need to put this pfile because there are two folder dbs and ds I have allready tried putting it inside dbs its not working. And my home path is correct I hope and is set for oracle 9i directories in the .oraenv file do we need to set it for oracle 10g before the DBUA upgrade.

I don't have any direct experience with D-Link equipment, but I may be able to provide some general advice. See if you can use a Web browser to connect to the D-Link's configuration screen. This probably involves visiting a URL such as http://www.192.168.0.1 . If you haven't changed the sign-on parameters, a quick Google search should find them for you.
Once there, note as many configuration details as you can find. You'll need those to configure your Time Capsule.
Use the AirPort Utility to configure the Time Capsule.
One last thing: It's quite possible that the Verizon network will have locked onto the "MAC" address of your D-Link router. Something needs to be done to reset this. If there's a separate box at your house that came with the FIOS equipment that's "upstream" from the D-Link router, I'd cycle power on it to see if that does the job. Otherwise you'll probably need to call Verizon to ask them to reset things once your Time Capsule is installed in place of the D-Link router.

  • Aperture 2 - 3 Library upgrade/import not working

I have a number of old Aperture 2 (2.1.3) libraries that were created onsite that I never imported into my main reference library.  This weekend I decided it was finally time to get organized and convert and import these old libraries.  When I try to import an old library the previews come in, but there are no masters.  I can't do anything like "Export Version" because Aperture throws an error which says: "Versions with unavailable master files cannot be exported.  The selected master image is either offline or not found.  Please reconnect it and try again."
If I try to separately open the original Aperture 2 library and convert it (both with and without "Update all photos to use Aperture 3 imaging" checked when trying to convert a library by opening it directly with Aperture 3).  The file size is radically reduced.  For example a 4.74 GB file, after conversion is 223.3 MB.  Aperture seems to be losing the masters.  I've read some discussions on here but the suggestions I've found haven't helped.  I've encountered this behavior on every Aperture 2 library that I have.  Thankfully I backed up most of the libraries before trying this.  I may have lost one library but I think I have an offsite backup I can go back to.
    I've tried:
    Restarting the machine
    Restarting Aperture
    Deleting Aperture user preferences
Repair permissions / database / rebuild database on the new converted .  I don't know how to get Aperture 3 to run these utilities on a pre-converted Aperture 2 file
Tried the conversion process on another machine running Aperture 3
I'm about to try and find my old Aperture 2 CD to install that and then export my projects.  I can't believe that it would be this problematic to import / convert an Aperture 2 library to Aperture 3.  I've read that others have had success.  Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions.  Thank you very much!
    ~ Dan

Were your Aperture 2 libraries Managed or Referenced?
Did you try the relocate masters command?

  • Where is iPhoto library upgrader

I read all of the forum posts.  Iphoto library upgrader is NOT in the utilities folder of my applications folder.  I am not a dummy. I looked.  It is not there.  I also ran a search of my entire drive and it is not there.  I have, ostensibly, downloaded the new iphoto after being not told that would be necessary after upgrading the OS. If it is not already in the folder (the library upgrader) where is allegedly is supposed to be, does that mean iphoto did not properly install.  I have the icon.  When I double click it pulls the app up, directing me I need to upgrade my library and then gives me the spinning wheel and closes the program all together.  This is BS.  Thanks for any assistance.

TD:  Thank you for your reply. Given the number of posts you both have, and the fact that this is on the apple site, and as this as more or less the only support apple has, I assumed this was subsidized, etc., by apple.  If you are all just people sitting at home, thank you.  I will say though, that the comments on the app store are fairly valid.  Apple dumps a bunch of "stuff" out there (as you don't like language only unsitable for anyone under 18)  requires an upgrade, and then waits for the users to sort it out and fix their problems.  "Enabling" comes to mind, given how many post you and some of your well intended friends have debugging problems apple should fix for itself.
So again, thank you very much for your time and assistance.  I, however, do not have time to waste on this BS (not you, this product)   Could I spend 5 hours doing it and fix it.  Probably.  But my time is more important so I will take my machine to my IT guy and let him figure it out.
You might consider, having drunk as deeply from the Kool-aide apple is serving up, that Apple given its market cap could easily handle and resolve all of this itself.  You are, for ulturistic and likely technologically religous reasons, are doing something that would be unheard of in any other context and in so doing perpetuating Apple's arrogance in releasing such a messed up product.    It would be like my dad, who loves fords, voluteering all of his free time to fix defects in new fords trucks instead of ford properly fixing its own problems.  If ford new current owners would fix all of the problems with new trucks, they would just send them all out defective knowing they will be fixed for free.  I could go on, but I suspect you get my point.
So again, on a personal level: thank you, thank you, thank you. Truly thank you .   But I do respectfully suggest 'you,' not you personally but this whole process of apple offshoring its repsonsibility to user driven chat, is an enormous part of the problem.

  • HT5037 iPhoto Library Upgrader Not Working Properly

I followed the instructions, but when i clicked 'continue' in the Library Upgrader to upgrade my older iPhoto library, the original message about how my iPhoto library needs to be upgraded popped up

What version of iPhot do you ave hat is gving you this message?
    You say
am trying to upgrade the iPhoto library to transfer it to my new MacBook Air.
Instead move the libray to the MBA and  upgrade it there using the version of iPhotot that is there  - you can not upgrade it on the old system with the old version of iPhoto
And the library upgrader does not upgrade the library - it modifies version 7 and earlier libraries so that the new version of iPhoto can upgrade them successfully
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

Are you asked for the password, when you run the installer for iPhoto Library upgrader?
Then the installer is asking you for the password of your administrator account. You need to authorize the installation.

I have a new macbook and just tried to use iphoto and it told me I had to download the iphoto library upgrader or quit. I downloaded it but still can not open iphoto.

You have to download and RUN the iPhoto library upgrader - if and only if your old version of iPhoto is iPhoto '08 (version 7.x.x or earlier) - and as always backup your iPhoto library prior to any update or upgrade in case of problems

  • IPhoto library upgrade failed, one third of the photos lost, but the library works as normal. No corruption.

Hello! I recently replaced my tragically crashed Macbook Pro 2008 with a newer model and transferred my volumous iphoto library of 20 000+ photos to my new machine. To be able to use my iphoto '08 library with Aperture I had to upgrade the library in the iphoto '11 version. I left the computer on during the day, and when I got back it seemed to work fine. I browsed my library in Aperture and could see all the thumbnails, but looking closer I noticed a small yellow warning triangle with an arrow in the corner of some pictures. Turns out all pictures from before ~2010 are lost! When I wiev the photos I see nothing but the infinite black of the data void.
Here's how I've tried to fix the problem:
    1. Opening the iPhoto Library package in Finder. All the folders for the earlier dates are there, but they are empty. I notice no incorrect or impossible dating, which seemed to be a common problem among users who's libraries where corrupted during the upgrade process.
    2. Rebuilding the iphoto library in iphoto. No effect.
    3. Recovering the iphoto library from my Time Machine Backup. SInce my old hard drive was just 200 GB, I stored all pictures older than one year on my external hard drive (note that about half of those pictures were successfully imported/upgraded). Both the internal and the external hard drive where backed up using Time Machine on a NAS from Seagate (Black Armor 110, 3TB). I was able to access backed up files on my external drive through Time Machine on my old computer, but since it is now rendered unbootable I tried using Migration Assistant to let my new computer inherit the old backup. However, I could not find the backup of the external drive in Migration Assistant, just my old internal drive. When I tried to access the backup volume on my NAS through Finder it didn't show up (I could find it that way on my old computer).
    4. Googling "iPhoto library upgrade failed", or "Inheriting Time Machine backup of external drive", and similarily desperately specific phrases - Nothing useful. Other people seems to have had problems with corrupt Libraries, but I'm not sure that's the case here.
My pictures must exist somewhere on my computer and in a backup on my NAS. I just can't find them! Do anyone have a clue to what may have gone wrong? I'm afraid the computer might have gone to sleep during the upgrade, because I didn't thinkabout adjusting the power saving settings before starting it. But since pictures 1-8000-something are missing, it doesn't seem to have worked properly during the whole beginning of the upgrade, not just during the middle. As I knew I had a backup of the library I didn't worry about upgrading the single functional copy. From now on I will think thrice before doing anything as serious as this.
I am eternally grateful for any answers that might help me recovering my photos!
    //Teodor Nilson

      b) I split up my photo collection into two iphoto libraries. One for the new photos stored on my internal HD            and one for photos older than one year stored on my external HD
And exactly How did you Split up your iPhoto library?
    c) I used Migration Assistant in an attempt to access the Time Machine backup of my old MBP from my new      MBP (by inheriting the backup). When I made my backups, I made sure Time Machine included the external      HD. But Migration Assistant could only find the backup of my Internal HD with the library of new photos!
    And again
You should not use Migration assistant on an iPhoto library - it generally does not work
    and
         d)   When signing in and mounting the NAS in Finder, I used to be able to see a Time Machine backup      folder/icon. Now I was unable to locate it.
I believe you are using your NAS for your Time Machine backup. If your Time Machine backup and/or your iPhoto library is on a NAS you will have problems - both need to be on Mac formatted volumes - the least troublsome is a volume formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Manually preparing a new disk for Time Machine
If you want to erase a disk before using it with Time Machine, follow these steps:
Open Disk Utility (located in the Utilities folder).
Connect the disk if it isn't already attached.
In the left side of the Disk Utility window, select the disk you want to use with Time Machine.
Optional: If you want to partition the disk, click the Partition tab and select a layout. Make sure "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" is selected in the Format menu for the partition that will be used for backups. Click Apply.
    Click the Erase tab.
Optional: If you want to securely erase the disk, click Security Options to configure, then click OK.
    Click Erase.
After erasing, open Time Machine preferences in System Preferences and configure as described in the section above.
Are the iPhoto libraries kept on an external drive formated Mac OS extended (journaled)? Or are they on the NAS? - If you are using the NAS for iPhoto and/or Time Machine that is the source of your problems

The iPhoto Library Upgrader tool doesn't work. I've downloaded it, and follow the directions, but iPhoto still won't open.

    Your Library is damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
As for goign back: do you have an undamaged library?

    Hi Chaitanya,
The feature is currently designed to be used with HTTPS, and will not work as expected with the HTTP connection available on Office 365 for professionals and
    small businesses sites.
To take advantage of this update, do the following steps:
Wait for the update to the SharePoint Online service, which is in progress now.
Upgrade Adobe Reader to the version 10.1.2 client.
Add your SharePoint Online root URL/domain to the Trusted Sites security zone in Internet Explorer1 (e.g.,

being rolled out worldwide along with several other new features.
    Best regards.

iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgrader application.  Repeatedly says it can't locate photos even when told to cancel.  I think the photos in question are in Nikon RAW format.

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.
