IPhoto not exporting photos properly

iPhoto 9.4.2.
When I try to export photos with the 'export' feature, some come out wrong. Sometimes the photo is almost cut in half, with one half filtered and skewed. Other times the photo is cut with a grey background across it.
Tried exporting to multiple formats, different quality settings and several times. I've been able to do this successfully in the past.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem: occurs randomly but often. I have just exported a dozen images, three images have the upper left quarter of the exported image about 50% lighter than the rest of the picture.  Other times there will be a square somewhere in the picture a different shade, other times it is stripes.
If I look at the pictures in iphoto, they appear normal.
I could not try your fix because the problerm is random. I did open a new library to see what happened.
Just one problem: how do I get my old library back when I open iphoto.

I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.

  • Iphoto not allowing photos to download on iOS4?

iphoto not allowing photos to download on iOS4?
since upgrading no photos are reading ... just locks and wont read any shots as i try and view on iphoto

All photos taken since i upgraded to iOS4 on my iphone 3Gs are not showing up when connecting to photo, plus i recently upgraded iphoto to 8.1.2.
The message was that 'one shot must be damaged or corrupted' etc etc
So from what you are saying, you may or may not have some corrupt photos on your camera roll in your iPhone and when you try to import them into iPhoto, you are given a message that there is one or more corrupt photos on the iPhone. Is that correct?
Mysteriously though - today it works?
But today when you tried it again, it worked and all photos downloaded.
    Is that correct?
I did try and reload an older version of my iphoto back on....
    but not sure what happened...
What did you try to load the older version of iPhoto on to? iPhoto 09 is all part of iLife 09. I am not sure, but I doubt the Mac will let you remove one part of the package and replace it with an earlier version EG iPhoto 08.
Make sure that you have all the latest versions of software on your computer.
On you mac, got to the Software Update menu option under the apple logo drop down menu.
It will scan your computer verses the apple updates available and give you a list of all updates available for your computer.
    Based on the info you have supplied so far, you should have;
    OSX 10.5.8
    iPhoto 8.1.2
    iTunes 9.2.1
If you have corrupt images on your phone, it is very possible that iphoto could have issues with importing the photos.
Open Image Capture on your Mac, you will find it in the Applications folder and connect your iPhone. this will show you the photos that you currently have, it shows a small thumbnail of the picture, the file Name, Date taken, etc.
If there are any corrupt photos on the iphone, you will not see the thumbnail of the photo, you will just see an icon saying jpeg or something similar.
If you have any of these, delete them using Image Capture.
Eject your iphone from Image Capture, unplug the iPhone and close Image Capture.
On the iPhone, open the Photos App and now make sure that you can see your photos.
Once you are happy that you can, plug the phone back into your Mac and import them into iPhoto as you normally would.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto not exporting description for Canon Powershot

iPhoto is not exporting descriptions for photos taken by my Canon Powershot SX110 IS.
I use the camera to take a picture, import the photo, add a description and use File->Export, choosing JPEG, check box for Title and Keywords, check box for Locations.   Perform export and view photo in Preview, view exif using Tools->Inspector.  All pertinent exif data is there except description, including keywords and location. Specifically looking at IPTC and TIFF data fields.
However, if I export Photos from my wife's camera (a Canon SLR model) or a friend's Canon EOS model, then the descriptions do get exported.   Any ideas or solutions on how to export the description for the Canon Powershot?

I can confirm that. I just imported it to iPhoto and no, I can't see the caption there either. But, and this is odd, there are several blank spaces there - for instance, in the shot below I just typed 'this is a test' where the cursor would let me.
So you can see there is some element of recognition that there is *something* there, which is weird. I tried copying and pasting that out but there are only spaces and no actual text that I can find. This is also repeated with Aperture.
There is some incompatibility between that camera and the Quicktime substructure on the Mac... I've simply never seen anything like this before.

  • Stop iPhoto from exporting photo library TO iPhone

When my iPhone 5s is synced to iPhoto, iPhoto will import my photos from my phone into my iPhoto library however once that is complete iPhoto will then export my ENTIRE iPhoto library (phone photo & other photos taken with my digital camera) TO my phone. I have checked the photo settings in iTunes for when my phone is synced and the option to transfer photos from iPhoto library to iPhone is not selected. Do I need to change the setting in iPhoto? If so, where? This problem is very frustrating.

Check iPhoto's iCloud preference pane and make sure this checkbox is NOT checked:

  • IPhoto not showing photos in Modified folder

I have an issue uploading photos into facebook.  I use iPhoto to manage all of my photos on my iMac, and I created different albums to organize photos.  When I try to upload some photos into my facebook, only the photos in Original folders show up in the albums, and the ones in Modified folders are missing.  When I open album directly in iPhoto, all the photos are there.  This happens both in Safari and Chrome.  Is there a way to fix this so that I can see all of my photos when I access iPhoto albums from the browser?

    iPhoto 09?
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Lightroom CC will not export photos

I installed Lr CC the night of April 21 (first day it was available) and have tried exporting several different photos, one at a time, without success; the pop-up message says "Some export operations were not performed.  The file could not be written."  Shutting down the program -- even restarting the computer -- had no effect.  The photos are from different years, and thus are in different folders on the external drive where they reside.  My computer is an iMac with Retina 5K display, Intel Quad-Core i5 processor, 16 GB RAM, and AMD Radeon R9 M290X graphics card with 2 GB of dedicated memory.  Exported photos go to a separate folder within the year-month folder the RAW image is in; capacity is not an issue, as the 2 TB drive is less than half full (same drive and export arrangements as used with Lr 5 for about six months, without once encountering this export problem).

This is an update, not a reply.  I set up a new external hard drive and put today's photos on it, then imported them into Lightroom CC.  With the photos on the new drive, I can export photos -- so the problem may be with the old external drive.

  • IPhoto 6 - Exporting Photo error message

I am having difficulty exporting photos from iPhoto 6.
The issue is when I choose what I want to export from iPhoto and direct it to another folder or drive etc., it begins the export but then I get the error message "UNABLE TO CREATE/USER/XXXXX/DESKTOP/. The XXX in this case are only place holders. When I hit CANCEL, the process stops and only the pictures up to that point are exported.
    Please advise!
    Thanks,
    Tom

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • IPhoto not exporting and slideshows not showing in finder

iPhoto on my MacBook air will not export slideshows into iTunes, even though the icon is ticked for it to do so automatically. Also, the slideshows I create are not showing in finder. Any suggestions?

Look in your Pictures folder for a folder titled iPhoto Slideshows.  That's where my converted slideshows end up.

  • Imovie not importing photos properly

Imac running Snow Leopard, 4Gig RAM. Have started an event and dragged in some video scenes, now when I add photos from the iphoto gadget, the photos don't show up when I'm previewing the movie. Each time I drag a new photo onto the event list, the image of the photo reverts to the first photo I've dragged in, and they don't play upon previewing the movie. I've done this dozens of times on my other IMAC running Leopard, but for some reason I can't get it to work on this IMAC. Any ideas? I've tried rebooting and same thing happens. The only different thing I have done is that I copied over the template event from my other IMAC into the drop box of this IMAC and then copied it into the imovie events folder and loaded Imovie and started using it.

I wish I had an answer for you, but sadly, the same thing happens to me. I've had this happen multiple times using Mac Mini with OS X 10.5.8. Another issue similar to this one is that the photo will just show up as BLACK--nothing else. Wish we could both get some help on this, but I'm not holding my breath...

  • UPS Not Exporting Photos

Our UPS application was up until recently importing information from AD and exporting photos to AD but recently it is no longer exporting photos to AD.
The UPS application is still importing data from AD. We have checked that the synchronisation account has the correct password and permissions on the specific OU.
One other thing that is strange is that one particular user had her photo updated in SharePoint but her old photo kept appearing in Outllook. We deleted the photo in AD and ran the SharePoint sync, expecting nothing to happen due to the problem I mentioned
above, but strangely the old photo reappeared.
I was under the impression that photos are not stored in AD but a pointer to the photo in SharePoint is added to a user's account in SharePoint.
In any case, the majority of our users have photos in SharePoint but these are not showing in AD/Outlook.

    Hi,
As I understand, you encounter the issue when exporting Picture from SharePoint to AD.
Could you please refer to the article below and confirm the steps from the beginning:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/nishants/archive/2012/02/21/how-to-sync-picture-from-sharepoint-to-active-directory-and-hence-to-outlook-and-lync.aspx
We can verify the export from both SharePoint side and AD side:
    SharePoint:
    Using miisclient tool to check export status ( C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\15.0\Synchronization Service\UIShell )
    AD:
Using ADSIEdit tool to check thumbnailPhoto attribute.

  • IPhoto 7.0.1 doen not EXPORT photos

    Hi..
i just uploaded to iPhoto 7.0.1 but i cannot export any photo... when i click on "export" nothing happens...
in the console i get this:
    *2007-08-11 04:28:44.204 iPhoto[280] * -[ExportMgr albumName]: selector not recognized [self = 0x17f11af0]*
(Btw.. i have just upgraded iPhoto from ilife 08 , no other ilife app)

Select iPhoto in the Applications folder and go File -> Get Info.
In the Get Info window you can use the Plug-in pane to remove any 3rd party export plugins that you have not updated for v7.
    *Also, if there's a plug-in there called*
    FileExporter.iPhotoExporter
*remove it too, but if there's one called*
    FileExporter2.iPhotoExporter
*make sure to leave that alone.*

  • IPhoto 9.6 not exporting photo descriptions

After changing image descriptions as desired, then selecting File>Export>Include: Title and keywords, the image descriptions fail to be exported (default camera description "OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA" retained). Title and keywords are exported; descriptions are not.
This is new problem with new Macbook up to date running 10.10.2.
I have submitted feedback to Apple via iPhoto>Provide iPhoto Feedback.
But wondering if others are having this issue.
And if I discover a resolution then I shall post it here.

How are you checking for the descriptions?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • IPhoto not showing photos

    Hi,
When I go into iPhoto and click on the photos in my library, nothing appears. I can see the thumbnail but when I click on the photo, it just appears blank. Do I need to download all my photos again to have them appear in the Library? Have I lost all my photos completley? I'm new to Macs and I must have done something wrong but I'm not sure how to solve my problem. Thanks.

    megsav,
iPhoto imports all the images into it's own database which is the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. It also keeps track of where all the images are, their file names, albums, slideshows, etc. in it's data files. there for everything such as deleting photos, renaming (titles) have to be done within iPhoto so it can keep track of the changes. If you rename or delete anything in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder, iPhoto will have no way of knowing what you did.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
You said that you can's open any of your images in the edit mode. This would mean you did more than just rename and delete some photos in that folder in the Finder.
I suggest you create a new library and import the images from the old library.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!
Here is more info for you so you can better understand how iPhoto works.
--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
--All images that you import are sown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
-- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
-- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
There is now one copy of each of the pictures.
You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
picture out of the folder to your desktop. Notice that you will see a plus sign while dragging the photo. This is copying the file to your desktop
I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
Don't forget that in Library view you can Control click on any picture and get a contextual menu with many options. One is to revert to original.
