Iphoto not working after time machine install

I have a first gen intel iMac and the hard drive had a sudden failure I was not overly concerned about my Data as I use time machine. I had a new Hard Drive installed and I used time machine to install back to snow leopard. all seems fine for a few days and every thing (software and hard ware (scanner)) was working fine. then I opened iPhoto to add a few new photos and all I get is the spining beach ball the library is 26 gig in size and was working fine before. I am at a loss as I still have all 9745 original photos on back up drive but not in order like in iPhoto and really don't want to recreate my library all over again. I've done disk permissions and only seem to have a problem with Java any body got any ideas?

Hi there Guys
I don't know if this is a true fix but my iPhoto 11 is now working iPhoto had an update and I did it to both my iPhoto programs (mac book and iMac) I then opened the not working librery on the laptop and it said the library need to be updated it did this and opened okay and all was working fine (I copied library on to a portable FireWire HD) when I copied it back to my iMac it said the same and went through the update and is now working fine.

  • IPhoto not working after Time Machine backup on new MacBookPro - HELP!!!

    I just upgraded to a MacBook Pro, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 w/ 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K540)
Backed up from Time Machine to load all my files from my old MacBook Pro which seemed to work fine for all applications except for iPhoto.
At launch of iPhoto, I get
    1. "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto."
    2. After clicking upgrade (I'm running on all current software), I get "There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto library. Do you want iPhoto to repair permissions for this library for you?"
    3. After clicking upgrade and typing in my password, I get "iPhoto was unable to repair permissions for the library." and iPhoto quits.
I've held Option/Command when launching iPhoto and have clicked all boxes and the problem still persists.
How can I get to my photos?

  • IPhoto not working after OS X install on my Macbook Air

I get this message - "You can't use this version of the application iphoto with this version of OSX you have iphoto 9.2.3."
When I try to download the latest version from the app store it never completes as an "error" occurs. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

When you download Mavericks to the USB drive it's not going to allow you to run the Mavericks installer. You need to buy an external drive then install Mavericks on the drive. You can then boot from the drive to recover your data and install a working OS X on the internal drive.
    Recommended Drives
USB 3.0 drives work on USB 2.0 but you do get 2.0 speed. They are cheaper because they are popular PC drives.  If you get a new computer you'll get the bump to 3.0 speed. I don’t recommend FW. The newer computers don’t have FW ports. You would need a connector in order to use the drive on a newer computer.
Size:  I recommend either the 2T or 3T drives.  Often they are cheaper than a 1T drive. The 4T drives have more issues and failure rates.
The Seagate USB 3.0 Backup plus drives come formatted for PC but easy to format in Disk Utility.
Seagate Backup Plus 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STCA2000100)  (Amazon only had used drives so I couldn’t get a price)
Seagate Backup Plus 3TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STCA3000101) $134.99
This Western Digital drive has good reviews: Has a 2 yr warranty. Comes formatted for Mac but I would still format using Disk Utility.
WD My Book Hard Drive for Mac 2 TB (WDBYCC0020HBK-NESN)  $99
WD My Book Hard Drive for Mac 3 TB (WDBYCC0030HBK-NESN)  $119.99
Check the warranty when comparing. The longer the warranty the better the drive. WD makes cheaper drives but with almost no warranty.
Locally, Best Buy seems to have the best prices.
You can get one drive for both Time Machine and clone, but it’s recommended that you use different drives for each. If the drive dies you lose both types of backup.

  • Password does not work after time machine restore and can not reset from CD

The hard drive failed on my Power Mac G5. I replaced it and restored everything from Time Machine. The two non -admin accounts I can log into fine but my password for the admin account does not.  I tried resetting it booting from the OSX CD and using the password reset utility. It says it has done its thing but then I reboot and try to log in same problem.  It even has the old password hint.  I changed that  so I could see if it worked. I tried both my account and the root account out of desperation.  Any help appreciated!

  • ILife Apps will not work after Time Machine restore

I just did a clean install of Leopard, and restored my user account from my Time Machine backup. All applications work except for iLife 09 apps.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm desperate. iPhoto has all my photos (photo library still in Pictures folder).
This is my first time doing this, you would think as seamless as Apple is their iLife apps would at least work!!

How did you restore your user account? Could you outline what you did, step by step?

  • App store and Safari not working after Time Machine restore to new hardware.

I just had to install a new hard drive to my mid 2010 imac.  I restored with time machine.  I cannot find the original OS disc.  Upon restoring it appears there is a problem with the webkit framework as Safari, App store, and Skype all freeze upon clicking on them and after bouncing, they never open.  Chrome is working.  What do I do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Apache not working after time machine restore

i had major problems upgrading to 10.5.3. after trying everything and hoping to avoid reverting to a backup, it was apparent i would have to revert. turns out, it was quite easy since i had a recent TM backup. now, i'm back to 10.5.2 fine, but for what ever reason i cannot getweb sharing ... my apache site ... running.
i've checked to see that all the necessary config files are there and my content is all there and in the system preferences, web sharing is on. but when i go to 192.168.1.11 (which happens to be the internal IP address for this machine), i get nothing.
not being super apache experienced, i'm lacking the troubleshooting knowledge to figure out why it's not working.
    please advise.
    thanks!!!!

thanks. yes, currently, i'm back to running 10.5.2.

  • Mountain Lion Server Web Server not working after time machine restore

Our Mountain Lion Server (mac mini) lost its drive yesterday.  We got a new mac mini and did a time machine restore.  Everything in the Server seems to be working (users, groups, file shares, etc) except for the web server.
Trying to connect to the server results in safari not being able to connect to the server.  Even just clicking on the "view server website" link in the Server app doesn't work.
We've tried stopping / restarting the services.  We have confirmed that the files in Library / Server with the web pages were restored.
Are there any gotchas, troubleshooting steps or guides anyone can point me to?  I'd like to get our wiki back.
    Thanks

Reinstalling etc does not work - does anyone else have the same problem or a clue as to how to fix this?

    Keith,
I got a C6280 and the scanner does not work anymore. I am for 6 days in contact with HP. The last printer driver install form the apple web site does not open the image of HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg because of an invalid checksum. The skipping of the validation gives and error in the install.

Do you get a steady green light to say there is a connection.    If not, are the batteries the right way round.   Do you have a monitor to tell the batteries strength. Is there a reading.   Are the batteries good quality ones, Duracell, Energiser or Apple rechargeables.

  • Time Machine backup not working after Mountain Lion Install

Oh my.  It seems that Mountain Lion and Lion Server are different species and cannot be interbred!  Is this really true?
I am running OSX Lion Server on a late 2009 iMac with the main purpose of allowing the MacBook Pros in the house (both running Lion 10.7.4) to wirelessly back up to Time Machine.  All has gone well until I upgraded one of the MacBooks to Mountain Lion.  Now it appears that Time Machine via the server is no longer available on that MacBook.  Also, the Server Admin app is also disabled.
    My questions are:
Is it necessary to upgrade to OSX Server if I wish to use the server a Time Machine target for Mabooks running Mountain Lion?
If I do upgrade to OSX Server, is it also necessary to upgrade all the Macbooks to Mountain Lion?
Is OSX Server stable enough to bother with at this time?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Well I can have a go at answering you questions
Is it necessary to upgrade to OSX Server if I wish to use the server a Time Machine target for Mabooks running Mountain Lion?
I'm not sure about this one as it didn't check before I upgraded my server to Mountain Lion but I would be suprised if a Lion Server (10.7.4) could not back up a Mountain Lion (10.8) client
If I do upgrade to OSX Server, is it also necessary to upgrade all the Macbooks to Mountain Lion?
No, I am running a mix of 10.8 and 10.7.4 clients with a 10.8 server and they all backup with Time Machine.
Is OSX Server stable enough to bother with at this time?
This is a very subjective area - my server is running well using Mountain Lion, it's not used heavily as it's mainly for backing up a few clients, running the built in wiki, web server, calendar and contacts.  It's running fine and I like the additions enough to put up with the bugs [single sign on / kerberos is the one impacting me].  However if you search here you can find other who are having many more issues. This one is a personal choice you'll have to make.
For the server app, you have to run the same version across the server and the client to use it, you can always use screen share to get to the server and run the server app directly on the server.  This is what I do when using a 10.7.4 client.
Hope this helps with you decisions.

  • TS3479 quick time not working after snow leopard install?

Made video's on my iphone and loaded them to my imac. Video did not work in iphoto.  No Quick time pop up. what happened? Snow leopard install.

You need to re-install iPhoto because it's missing bits of itself:
    Library not loaded...
    Reason: no suitable image found.
Looking at the missing files it's possible that it's missing from the OS. But start with re-installing iPhoto, and if that fails you'll ned to re-install the OS.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’

  • Internet not working with Time Machine after power outage... but works when

My power went out and now the internet will not connect with the Time Machine. If I plug it directly into my mac book it works. Sometimes it takes a little bit to work when plugged straight in, but I can get it to work. However, when using the Time Machine, I can't get on at all.
I tried using the Airport Utility Set up and nothing worked -- and now it won't even recognize the time machine at all!
Any suggestions of what to do? All of my work is on the internet. I had no issues before the power went out.
    Thanks!!

    Hello,
Yes, I mean Time Capsule. I tried unplugging and plugging in several times. Nothing is working. Somehow I cannot even see the Time Capsule network as being there at all.
I've had the cable company come replace the cable modem, but the guy didn't really know anything beyond that. So I have a new modem that can work when the cable is plugged directly into my laptop but the whole functionality of the Time Capsule is down.
Please help! I need internet this fixed by tomorrow morning if possible.
    Greatly appreciate the help! Thanks!!!
