IPhoto on Lion 10.7

Hi
I've recently been given a mini mac with Lion 10.7 already installed.
Should it have iPhoto on it ? At the moment the only way i can see photo's is through the preview application ....
Thanks in anticipation
JB

Thee are a couple of things you may be able to do.
1. You might be able to upgrade your Mac to Mavericks, then you could use the current version of iPhoto from the App Store.
You can use this link to see if your machine meets the requirements.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842
You can find your Macs info by clicking on the Apple in the menu bar (upper left) select About This>More info mac here you can find the processor and memory, then click system report and you can find your model identifier, if it is Model Identifier Macmini 3,1 or later you should be ok to upgrade, (higher woud be the first digit being 3 or higher) You really want to have 4GB OF Memory(RAM) although Apple says Mavericks will run on 2GB.
2. The other alternative would be to get an older copy of iLife and install it on Lion.
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES
The downloads i saw were sites I would not recommend, having the physical copy allows for reinstallantion if necesary.
Hope this helps
Make sure to run Software Update (Apple menu) so that you have 10.7.5 if the version is lower when you check About this Mac.

How do I move emailed photos to iPhoto using Lion? I've lost the previous drop down option.
    Thank you, Karen

There are multiple ways. I am not at my Lion machine at the moment, so I am not sure I can remember them all, but here is one: Click on the "Details" button in the upper right corner of the message. If there are image attachments, the drop down menu should appear.
Or, try right click on the image. I think I saw "Add to iPhoto" in the contextual menu.

  • Why is iPhoto (Mountain Lion) importing RAW/NEF files as jpeg's?

I am manually importing via DVD's my archived iPhoto files from  iPhoto '08, (7.1.5), Snow Leopard, to my new computer running Mountain Lion. iPhoto '11 (9.4.3). Most of my files are in RAW format (NEF) and was saved as such. I am noticing that as I import from the discs into the new iPhoto, it is importing some as jpeg's and I am loosing my RAW data. I am findiing very little being imported as RAW.
Has anyone else had this experience?
Is there somewhere in the settings that I am not finding, to correct this? I checked all that I know to look at and I did not find anywhere an option to change the format of the image in importing.
I, also, converted files from jpeg to.tiff and saved them as such, but I am not finding any .tiff files either.
    Any info?
Thank you for any help you can give.

    OK.  WOW!
One by one!  Larry, Terence and Old Toad,
Thank you, all of you, for your helpful replies.
Firstly, I am a little confused between Larry and Terence; sounds like opposite info. Is it?
Old Toad, Now I know about this easy way to do this. I have, at least, 1T+20,000 more images, some of which I will import into my new 750 gig Macbook Pro, so this seems easy. (Already over 30,000 images. Can iPhoto hold so much???)
It seems tho, that I AM BUSTED!
Unfortunatelly, I could not import directly the old Library to the new Library because of the below reason. (even tho there seems to be some difference of opinion on this between Terence and Larry)
I did the unthinkable. I worked out of the iPhoto Library.
What I did was this: my older Macbook Pro, had a 200 gig HDD, and could NOT handle all the photos I was putting into it (which I needed to do the work I want to do), so I first downloaded the images from my camera to iPhoto, then, I downloaded,as I went along, by year, to external HDD, and then I cut DVD's, by year, in pieces, via Toast, as my backup. (both, directly from the iPhoto Library), Then, I deleted many of the photos in each event, in each year, leaving only enough to remind me what is in that event.
(Then, when I needed images from that event, I could go back to the HDD to see and get the rest of the pix I needed to use).
I KNOW this is totally SACRELIGIOUS of Mac and the whole iPhoto Library set-up, but it didn't hurt the library functioning, (in the old mac), at all, and was the only way I knew to do it, as going thru iPhoto itself, didn't work out so well.
(That is why I didn't import directly my old library to the new Mac, not all the photos were there, and I thought it would be more confusing trying to add the missing photos to each event in the new iPhoto).
However, re-importing from the HDD  to the new iPhoto, was a bit of a mess, as I got, (as 2 of you, above, said), mixed up info, as both "originals" as well as "events" downloaded, which gave me duplicates of some, and the dates are NOT necessarily in order, as was in the old iPhoto before. (but that I can reconcile, later, can't I?
Can I move events to other places in iPhoto?
However, going directly via the DVD's into the new iPhoto, gave me exact input and I got all the files as well as all the data. But, in some, very slow downloading, and very few, some date order mixup, but very few.
SO, this new iPhoto Library is a bit messed up with the duplicate images in about the first 3,000 or so images, but I assume I can fix this up.
    Oh g---d.
In any event, it is now showing RAW and jpeg's as info in the metadata pane.
Thank you , all of you. I am not so computer savy, I do better in photography!
All the help I receive is welcome and worthwhile. And if there is anymore you want to tell me, besides scolding me for going into the iPhoto Library, it is all welcome.
    I Thank you.

  • HT4906 iPhoto and Lion

I downloaded pics from my camera, which then deleted the pics. Now I can't find iPhoto.
I see all my pics are in Finder-Go-Recent Folders-Pictures. They appear to all be there, even the old ones.
But I cannot find the iPhote icon, 'nor the program.
    I am using Lion 10.7.3.
I have checked all downloads, and all are up to date.
Also can I get help on the email format on the Lion 10.7.3...I hate it! Liked the old format where only the sender, date and time was shown. The new one looks like reading a book..........
    I am a rookie iMac user...please help.
    Sandra

How did you download the pictures from your camera?  Did you use iPhoto? Did you look in your Pictures folder for the iPhoto Library? Do you have iPhoto in the Dock and if you do what happens when you double click on it?
Download and use  Find Any File to search for a file named "Library6.iPhoto".  It's a file that is in every iPhoto library. FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't and if there's an iPhoto library on your hard drive FAF will find it.
As for Mail there's not much we can do send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/Mail.html. I know of no 3rd party "hack" to change the GUI.

  • Pictures sent by e-mail are not saved to iphoto in lion

When I preveiwed a picture sent by e-mail there was an icon to click on to save the picture to iphoto. This is not available now since I installed Lion.

What version of iPhoto and system are you running?  If it's iPhoto 9 are you emailing from iPhoto or are using Mail?  If from iPhoto there's an option to optimize the file which will reduce the file size.  Make sure you've selected full size in that menu:
The same goes for Mail.  Double check in Mail that the original file is being sent:
What can I do eliminate the unwanted situation?
A workaround would be to export the original to the desktop, zip/compress it and add the compressed file to the email.

  • Downloading iphoto for lion 10.7.5

trying to download iPhoto for my iMac.  Operation system is OS X Lion 10.7.5.  Is it possible to get iPhoto on my computer?

The currently sold version iPhoto 9.6 requires Yosemite. But you could buy an iLIfe '11 installer DVD at Amazon. That will include iPhoto '11. You can update that version using the updaters at Apple's support page.

  • IPhoto for Lion 10.7.5

Have just upgraded our ancient Macbook to Lion 10.7.5 os. Now need to update iPhoto 7, but seem only able to get iPhoto 9.5, which requires os 10.9. Have I just wasted an os update, or is there an iPhoto version I can download that allows us to order photo albums and calendars from the iStore?

You can't obtain iPhoto 9.5 while running Lion.  Do what mende1 suggested and get iLife 11 from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com and install iPhoto 9.0.  Then do the following:
    update to iPhoto 9.3
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1545update to iPhoto 9.3.2
    update to iPhoto 9.4
    and finally to iPhoto 9.4.3

  • Iphoto/mountain lion problems

I upgraded to mountain lion and wiped my computer, I am pretty sure when I got my mac iphoto etc was already just on it! now I have had to pay to upgrade and dont have iphoto and have to buy it? Is there any way round this, I do not have an ilife disk!

Did your Mac come with DVDs? If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Applications Install DVD that came with your Mac, and install the iLife applications. Then, open  > Software Update and install the latest version.
If your Mac didn't come with DVDs, you have to get the apps from the App Store, but as you say that the App Store wants that you pay for iPhoto, I understand that your Mac came with DVDs. All Macs purchased before July 2011 came with DVDs

  • Iphoto mountain lion untitled

    Hi
After upgrading to Moutain Lion a few days ago, I am noticing that I have many duplicate photos in my library now. Sometimes up to 5 copies of the same photo. They are mostly titled "untitled" instead of their correct IMG_5654 for example.
I have my duplicate backup of my library that I booted up on my older Snow Leopard-equipped macbook pro and the files are all good.
According the to the count of "Photos" there are something like 10,000 duplicates now!
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? My iphoto library dates back a few years and has about 60,000 photos in it, organized with keywords.
Major bummer. I hate upgrading iphoto. Ugh.
    thanks for any advice
    -steve

Did you import the Library at any point?

  • IPhoto/Mountain Lion Desktop Settings

    Hey there,
This is kind of a simple but convoluted question: I'm running the latest Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro (I'd give more info but I don't think it's relevant in this case):
I'm running the latest iPhoto and I have several databases/libraries. IE: Portfolio, Random Desktops, Textures (for 3D work), etc....
I have several desktops and my "default" library is my photo backgrounds library.
When I'm working in another library, is it going to mess up using the "default" library desktops for the background? Basically, do I have to always revert/switch to "default" library before quitting iPhoto for it to keep pulling up random desktop images every few minutes, the way that I have it set? I haven't been able to tell if it works completely as it often has problems even setting the desktop via iPhoto on some of the desktops I have up for some reason. I'm not sure why, but it seems a little buggy.
Any tips/info would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

When I'm working in another library, is it going to mess up using the "default" library desktops for the background?
iPhoto - or whatever - will draw from the most recently opened Library for those desktop images.

  • Promblem between Desktop Iphoto and Lion

    Hi
I installed Lion a few days ago.
I have a problem with my destop. I used to change automatically the desktop picture each 5 minutes picking in an iphoto  album called "vacances" (it means holidays infrench)
Since i installed Lion, i can't finf my "vacances" album to pick pictures for my desktop.
I have the same problem with my iMac and my macbookpro
Does anyone have the answer ?
    thanks a lot

thank you William for taking the time to help.
Just going to take a moment to be clear on what is going on with my MacMail.  It seems that any messages that I had in my generic mailbox are all still there, however I had several addtional mailboxes for sorting out mail from different companies, people, etc.  I also had Rules for all the corresponding mailboxes.  These all seem to have disappeared.  Also I seem to be running Version 4.5 (1084).
I can't seem to find the Library folder you mention.  I went "Finder>Go>Home" clicked on home and I got a folder containing the following folders (plus a few others) Applications, Desktop, Documents, Downloads etc...
Am I looking in the right place.  I also did a spotlight search for "Library" and no folders with that name came up.
I am not sure how much of a speed bump that is.
Thank you again for your help

  • IPhoto and Lion

I recently upgraded to Lion and when I tried to upload pictures it says unrecognized file type. It is showing the same format that I uploaded before I upgraded. Is there a setting I need to change?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto in Lion scrolls jerky and too fast

    HI all,
since upgrading to Lion, scrolling through events and photos in iphoto has gotten pretty impossible. Using the trackpad on my MacBook I have to scroll extremely slow if i want to see anything at all. Its not actually scolling as much as jumping a few rows up or down. that would be ok (not great, not very "Apple", but acceptable) except for the fact that the speed is so fast I cant adjust fast enough to see where I am.
The visual effect of movement in one direction or another is totally gone, which makes it look like photos and events are jumping all over the place.
    Anyone else have this issue?
    Thanks!

I uploaded pics to iPhoto for the first time since installing Lion.  I am hating it!!
I have the big Mac desktop.  I do not understand how to scroll through the photos now.  This could be a deal breaker for me.  Although, being able to view all my iCal appointments in a glance is awesome.
I am very annoyed right now!

  • Problem with iPhoto and Lion OS

Since upgrading to Lion OS, I have noticed that every time I open iPhoto 11, it tells me that it needs to be upgraded.  I have checked for software updates and am told that there are none.  Does anyone know how to resolve this?

What version are you at now, 9.1 or 9.2....?

  • Flip videos not importing in iPhoto in Lion

Ok. Just for first time tried uploading from my Flip recorder videos and it sits there (in iPhoto) forever saying "Preparing to import Videos" --there were only 2 very short, 30-sec videos to upload. Have never had a problem pre-Lion. I force quit and ejected both. I'm on MacBook 10.7.4 and my iPhoto library is stored on my always-plugged-in Ext. hard drive. Never had a problem on Snow Leopard with this setup.
Has anyone else had this problem and do they have a fix?
    Thanks.
