Iphoto's will not open

IPhoto 11 will not open, I tried reloading my ILife but that did not work either.  It says the certificate expired Mar 23, 2012

What happens when you try to open iPhoto?

my iphoto program will not open I get a message "you have used a newer program in the past use that program"  I only have the one ???

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • HT5037 I installed the iphoto library upgrader and iphoto still will not open

I installed the iphoto library upgrader and iphoto still will not open. can anyone solve this?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto library will not open, says to open must upgrade to latest version but there is no update for iPhoto!

All of the sudden, iPhoto library will not open because it says I must update to latest version for it to open. There is no update for iPhoto in the App Store. As far as my computer shows, I have the latest version. iPhoto version 9.5.1 was installed December 13, 2013. HELP!

Go to your Applications Folder and open it there. Drag a new icon down to the Dock.
The old version is preservered,  and the old icon is on the Dock- remove it.

  • Suddenly, one of my iPhoto Libraries will not open, or rather iPhoto opens, but says there are no photos in the file.  However, when I backed it up and looked into it otherwise, the images 86gigs are still there in the file. What to do??

Suddenly, one of my iPhone libraries will not open with 86 gigs of images: it opens and says there are no photos, yet by other looking, all the images are there and when backing up, it takes an hour.
Somehow iPhoto application will not recognize the images (over 13,000) in the file.
Any suggestions as to how to fix the matter<

To move from iPhoto 08 (which is v7) to iPhoto 11 (which is v9) requires that you purchase iPhoto 11. Your software update is running just fine. V7.1.5 is last version of iPhoto 08.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
    As to the problematic library:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IPhoto preferences will not open

My preferences menu will not open; I cannot change anything! What steps should I take? (I have Version 7.1.4)
    Thank you.

    Try this frequently recommended procedure.
Quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preferences. Go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.iphoto.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iPhoto; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
    Good luck.

  • IPhoto 11 will not open, just bounces.

Whenever I connect my iPhone or independently try to open iPhoto, it just bounces on my dock.  It will not open at all.  I don't know what happened.  Can anyone help with this?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Where's a smart person when you need one? My iphoto just will not open for no reason at all(I REALLY NEED HELP)

I have not done anything strange like changing something in my computer or IPhoto. One day it just decided not to open. I dont have my photos backed up from IPhoto and I really need the photos on there and Iphoto itself to graduate in two weeks.
I will click on Iphoto and it'll jump twice, open but it will be totally blank white and immediately have the spinning rainbow wheel and it never loads. I'll then put my mouse over the icona nd it'll say "IPhoto not responding" and everytime I have to force quit. I really dont understand what happened.
I have googled for days variations of "My Iphoto will not open" and none of what people are saying helps at all because all of them have done something to mess up their apps. I really really need help, please, its got to be something so simple because I didnt change anything on my computer.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto: Pictures will not open/cannot import from Digital Camera

    hey guys!
I'm just recently having problems with iPhoto. I can open pictures on my iMac when clicking on them through folders itself, but when I go into iPhoto and try to double-click on the thumbnail images which show up to make them full size, they do not open..the wheel just spins to show its loading but the pictures do not load.
Also, when i click IMPORT to import pictures from my digital camera, the wheel also just spins and it does nothing again, and says it couldnt import the pictures as they are an unrecognized file, which is weird as this had all worked before.
    thanks!

  • IPhoto View will not open from thumbnail

I have version 9.2.3 of iPhoto running on an iMac (mid 2011). iPhoto has been running without any problems. I do not use it for editing and have not added any new phographs. In the past week I have simply looked at photographs without altering them in any way. Today when I tried to open photographs form thumbnails the photographs would not open. For a moment it looked as though the photographs would open and then the screen went black. The title of the Event still showed in the top left corner of the screen. Thumbnails are shown across the bottom. Can someone help please.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Iphoto app will not open

    iphoto will not open

Are you sure that iPhoto is not saying "You need to update your iPhoto Library to work with this version of iPhoto"?
If that is the case, then allow it to do so.

  • IPhoto sidebar will not open

Friend has many photos and he can't get the little dot that opens and closes the vertical side bar to open to show his Library, Albums etc. All the other sidebars in various programs open and close. He is running 10.4.5. He doesn't remember what he did to close it all the way. I tried and can't get it to open though the double headed arrows show up. He is on a G4 laptop.
Is someplace else where he can get the side bar to open? I can't find a menu to do so.

    Hello,
One other way to access the iPhoto library is to open a Finder window. Do this by clicking a clear space on the Desktop, it will say Finder in the Menu top of your screen. Click File/New Finder Window. When the Finder window opens click Pictures in the Sidebar on the left. The iPhoto library can be accessed there.
Hopefully you'll be able to use the arrows in iPhoto!
