IPhoto Upgrade Failure

Hello,
I recently upgraded my Mid 2009 Intel iMac from Mavericks to Yosemite, and since then iPhoto has failed to work.
Every time I click onto the dock, it tells me that my version isn't compatible with Yosemite (obviously as it was updated and installed when I had Mavericks), and when I go to the App Store to try and update the version, it then tells me that I am currently running iOS 10.7.5 (which is Lion, which I was running before installing Snow Leopard then Mavericks), however when I go to About this Mac, it tells me that I am running, 10.10. It is getting frustrating, as last night it was installing and redownloading on a loop. Now App store refuses to let me download it. I do not have another program in which to view my images or sort them out.
I am currently running iPhoto 8.1.2 which was the last update it offered me on the 14th of October.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Cannot open iPhoto after downloading Yosemite. I have upgraded to iPhoto 6.9 and have downloaded iPhoto upgrader 1.1 to no avail.

Did you go to your Applications/Utilities folder and actually double click on the updater to run it?

  • IPhoto Upgrade Problem Version 8.1.2 to iPhoto 9 (iLife 11)

    Hello,
I have purchased the iPhoto upgrade from the Mac App Store ($15) and currently have iPhoto version 8.1.2 installed on my computer. I would have thought that the upgrade would have pushed or automatically upgraded my existing iphoto version; however, it just appears to be queued in the Mac App store. When I look in the Mac App Store Purchases tab, I can see the Purchase, but I still have version 8.1.2 installed on my computer. Am I overlooking something? Thanks for the help!
    Philip

Make sure the installer isn't paused in LaunchPad, and/or the App Store

  • After iPhoto upgrade i can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive, after iPhoto upgrade i can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive

I was just about to order a photo book, using photos stored on an external hard drive. I organised the book and pressed 'buy'. IPhotos instructed me that I needed to upgrade and so I went on the ASpp store, bought the upgrade and installed as directed. I then used the iPhoto Library upgrader as directed.
After the iPhoto upgrade I can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive. I am able to access the photos stored on my internal hard drive - the remainder (including the photo album) seem to have vanished into thin air.
    Any suggestions please?

What format is the external drive?

  • Problems with iPhoto upgrader on iPhoto 7.1.5. HELP!

I installed and ran the iPhoto upgrader for iPhoto 7 in preparation to install a newer version of iPhoto (9 or later) so that i can get photo album and books printed via iPhoto.  I downloaded a number of available iPhoto 9 upgrades, but none worked even through i had run the upgrader.  I am now stuck with a MacBook (OS X 10.7.5) with a version of iPhoto that won't open (error message: You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto) and also wo';t allow me to install any iPhoto upgrades.  Help!  I have tried to restore iPhoto from time machine, but that hasn't worked, plus trying the original install disk for my laptop hasn't worked, presumably because i have upgraded the OS a few times since i got it (it's a late 2008 dinosaur of a macbook!).  I am worried that now i have lost my photos and will have to pay 50 quid for a iLife disk with no guarantee that it will work.  All i really want to do is un-install the upgrader and return iPhoto to it's original 7.1.5 state.  Is that possible? Also how can i check that my photos are still stored somewhere without being able to open iPhoto? Please help! Thank you.

You only need to run the upgrader if you have iPhoto 9.5.  It's not needed for other iPhoto 9 versions, i.e. 9.0 thru 9.4.3.
You might be able to downgrade that library by following this iPhoto LIbrary Manager tutorial: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto

  • There's a glitch somewhere. iphoto just wont open. upgraded to yosemite and downloaded iPhoto upgrader and it doesn't work, just keeps telling me to upgrade when I did already or quit, so no way to do photos on this brand new mac. that's a pity!!

You need to have iPhoto 11 v9.6 (which you can get from the App Store) to use iPhoto on Yosemite. If you already have iPhoto 11 then the update is free. Otherwise it's a purchase.

  • There are too many questions "like" mine, so here it is: I updated from Mountain Lion to Yosemite, I can't open iphoto 9.1.5, I am directed to the app store, I "accept" iphoto upgrade and enter my credentials, but no update occurs. :-(

Attempting iPhoto upgrade from 9.1.5 to 9.5.

How many questions like yours should there be? What exactly do you expect the volenteers here to do about what you personally consider "too many questions"?
To move to iphoto 9.6 (required for Yosemite) You must log in to the App store  using the Apple ID that was used to set up the compter (or purchase the application if it was purchased later), backup your iPhoto library and then download and install iPhoto 9.6 from the App store
If that is not working then you must contact App store suport - link is on the right of the App store window

  • IPhoto Upgrade iBook G4 so can continue to order books & prints?

    Hi,
Trying to determine the lowest v iPhoto upgrade for continued ability to order books and prints...would that be the iPhoto version in iLife 05? ...don't want/need GarageBand, iDVD, etc., just iPhoto! Recommendations appreciated.

    This page
    http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/ordering_options/
tells us that you can order books with v6 or later.
You can place orders for Print Products using iPhoto 6, iPhoto '08, and iPhoto '09, as well as Aperture 2.
As you're on 10.4.11 you might want to go to iPhoto 08 as it's the highest you can run, and will probably be easier to find. Note that you cannot upgrade to any version without purchasing the iLife suite.

  • All my photos in the iphoto have disappeared, not sure if this related to any iphoto upgrade or other issue, tried to find the photos through the finder (JPG or photo) but failed, can you help me to get back my photos please?

All my photos in the iphoto have disappeared, not sure if this related to any iphoto upgrade or other issue, tried to find the photos through the finder (JPG or photo) but failed, can you help me to get back my photos please?

Help us to help you: There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance. (And no, more exclamation marks do not get help faster or make your issue seem urgent. They just make it seem like you have a stuck key )

  • Iphoto upgrade it says your photos will not be readable following update. Will my photos be lost?

Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. Some may be on the cloud but how can I save them? I haven't backed anything up and can't open iphoto to try. I/ve copied it onto my desktop but can't open that either!
Please help a t otal idiot!

Before you do anything else make a backup of your iPhoto library. Disk drives do fail regularly, and one day all your photos will be gone for sure, if you do not keep copies on a different drive.
You can simply drag theiPhoto library from your Pictures folder to a different disk to create a backup copy.
iphoto upgrade it says your photos will not be readable following update. Will my photos be lost?
You misunderstood the warning.  When you use a new version of iPhoto with yiur iPhoto library, the older iPhoto version will no longer bea ble to read the library, but naturally, the new version you are using now, will be able to show your photos.
So proceed  with the update - that is a routine warning, and is necessary, to be able to use your iPhoto library with the new version of iPhoto.

  • Iphoto still grayed out after iphoto upgrade after mavericks install, what should I do?

After upgrading to mavericks Iphoto was Grayed out. The computer Notified me that I would have to upgrade iphoto from 9.2.1 to to latest version.
went to the mac app store, the upgrade page showed the iphoto upgrade, it downloaded and installed the upgrade but iphoto is still grayed out in the dock and in the applications folder. The mac app store shows the iphoto upgrade as being installed. whot should I do?

First, make sure the new copy of iPhoto was not installed as a separate icon in your Applications folder.
If that's not the case, try launching it anyway; I've seen instances where the icon fails to update until the associated application is launched for the first time.

  • Iphoto will not launch after lion and iPhoto upgrade

"your iPhoto library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
This is the message i get after paying apple3 0 dollars for the lion upgrade and 14.99 iphoto upgrade. Can you now help fix?? you have my money. Now give me back my computer

Do as the instructions tell you.
Hold down the Option and Command keys and launch iPhoto at the same time.
You'll see a dialog box open.
    Select:   Repair Database
    Or, restore from a backup.
FYI, Apple's policy states that, "all sales are final" >  iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Since the iPhoto upgrade, my albums are gone and everything is listed by date

yosemite....since iphoto upgrade, all photos are listed by date and not the albums..How can I get my albums back?

    ryanepps wrote:
Not sure why they did that, surely it makes more sense to place all the albums directly under the album tab instead of a sub folder... but hey, whats an extra click...
Albums in Photos are not the same as Events in iPhoto. For those users that had dozens or even hundreds of Events, it's a blessing that Apple grouped them into a single folder. Gives the users the opportunity to organize (or delete) them as they wish.

  • IPhoto upgrade for IOS5 to get Photostream on your my MacBook.

What's up with iPhoto upgrade for IOS5 to get Photostream on your my MacBook. The reviews are horror stories. Thoughts? Any fixes since these issues started? ~ Byrne51

    Welcome to Discussions.
One of the problems with upgrading is that you still have an older machine but if it's working well it could continue to do so for some years. However, newer software may not be able to be used on the older machine.
You haven't indicated which model of eMac which can also make a difference to our advice.
The suggestion to increase the RAM is certainly a priority for more satisfactory performance.
System updates may provide you with new features you will find useful. Check Apple's website for details.
If you need more disk storage the best option is to get a firewire drive with as large a capacity as you can afford. If formatted to Apple's specs you can put an OS on this and use it as the startup. Only the oldest eMacs might have a problem coping with Leopard. It works well on mine. Then you are effectively using your Emac's processing, display and cd-dvd drive mainly. The external drive can be used with a later Mac if subsequently you decide to upgrade.
    Hope these thoughts are useful.
