IPhoto XL Book buy book quit unexpectedly in safe mode

Hi,
After compiling all the photos for my 26 pages XL-size photo book, I have been trying to "Buy Book". But iPhoto has been crashing/ no responding during the upload process (after assembly process). I have tried to "buy book" for more than 10 times. No luck. So, I read the discussion board, people suggest that I should do it in safe mode.
So, I went into safe mode, less than 2 minutes after I clicked "Buy Book", it will pop up the error of "iPhoto quit unexpectedly". I have tried it 4 times already and don't know what to do.
Help, please.  Thank you in advance.
Spec. :
iPhoto'11, version 9.4.3 (720.91)
OS X version 10.8.4

Thank you LarryHN and Old Toad.
I did try to resize it to L, but it is too small to my liking, so I did not continue.
Somehow, in my photobook, there were some foreign texts that I copied from websites. Although, it does not give me any error, but I thought, it does not hurt to delete those texts. I clicked "Buy Book", it was not responding again. But it went further than when I tried earlier.
So, what the heck, I thought, I would try to "Buy Book" again, if it does not work I will rebuild my iPhoto library db. But this time it went through, amazingly.
I personally do not think that the deleting foreign texts help in this case, it might simply be about a better internet connection.
Although, I have not checked the Safe Mode yet, and I do not know that it solves the problem of quit unexpectedly or not, but for now, my "Buy Book" mission is accomplished.
Thanks a lot.

First confirm that you can create a PDF file of your book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. Post back with the results.

Do you mean importing photos? If so what were you importing from? If it is a flash drive why not just re-import from it? Where did you scan them?
As to backups - you really need to always have your backup running - without good backups you will lose all photos sooner or later

I have prepared an 82 page book on iPhoto, ready to buy. There is a message over about half the photos saying "drag photo to place in background" as if it doesn't see the photo already there. I have spent over 20 hours getting to this point and can't bear to start over! Its a Mac 08X 10.6.8 and iPhoto 08  7.1.5. I have made other iBooks on this software and computer with no problems. Help please!

Look for a page that has a similar layout:
The one photo per page layout is the easiest to miss. Just click on a background color to remove the problem.

  • IPhoto: solution when "buy book" generates an error.

    Hello all,
I thought I post this. Maybe this will help others who face the same problem.
I created a book in iPhoto. After clicking the "Buy Book" button, I received the message:
<i>There was a problem contacting the Apple online store. Please try again.</i>
I searched the internet and found several other people having the same problem.
Several solutions were also given like:
         1. Temporarily tun of the firewall
         2. Be sure the select, in Preferences in iPhoto under Advanced the book store that matches the country of your Apple ID
         3. Be sure to have the correct and valid credit card data entered in your Apple ID
         4. Be sure the password of your Apple ID is correct
         5. Go to iTunes, "purchase" a free App and if you are prompted to accept Apples policy, do so and try again to buy your book
         6. Apple online store may be down or to busy, try again on a different time.
However, none of these solutions worked for me.
After digging further I finally found the solution (at least for me).
If you have ever made, in System Preferences => Language and Text, under Formats any change, than "Region" will show "Customized" instead of your country. I live in the Netherlands, the default for short date is to show years in two digits. I changed this once (in the past) to show dates with four digits years.
Resetting "Region" to match the country of your Apple ID did the trick.
I was then able to order my book in iPhoto.
    Kind regards,
    emeu1

  • Buy book is grey out in iPhoto and cannot buy book

Buy book is grey out in iPhoto and cannot buy book

You get the best help by giving as much information as possible, not as little as possible. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance.

  • IPhoto order to "buy book" freezes when assembling book

  • Iphoto won't open - keeps quitting unexpectantly

I was importing photos from my SD card in Iphoto when it quit unexpectantly. Now whenever I try to open it the same window comes up:
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iphoto and I still have the same issues.
I also went into disk utility and hit verify then repair and it told me nothing was wrong. I'm in iceland at the moment as I'm travelling for a year and I really need to be able to put my photos onto my computer then onto my hard drive so if anyone can help that would be great.
    Thanks,
    S

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • IPhoto project will not upload even in safe mode when trying to buy book, any suggestions on how to complete the "BUY BOOK" process. Christmas gift, really need to get this done, have worked MANY hours on putting it together. Please help!

Iphoto book will not upload even in safe mode when trying to buy book, any suggestions on how to complete the "BUY BOOK" process?

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the fix below:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
After each run thru the repair process see if you can create a PDF file of the book as described in this Apple Document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. If you can try ordering the book.  If you can't finish trying all of the otpions and then boot into Safe mode and try there.

  • Try to "buy book" and get transferred to My Publisher?

Anyone know what the deal is with this? I created and purchased a book last year for Christmas with no problems. Organized it in iPhoto then clicked "buy book" and it was assembled and purchased right there. This time, I put it all together in iPhoto then clicked "buy book" and after assembling the book it takes me to a My Publisher download. So I download it and it directs me to the software to put the book together all over again. What's up with that? Isn't there a way for me to order the book through iPhoto anymore?

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
I have no idea and have not seen or heard of this - one simple thing to try is to quit iPhoto and trash your iPhoto preferences - "your username" ==> library ==> preferences ==> con.apple.iPhoto .com - when you launch it again it will create a new, fresh default preference file - reset any user preferences you have changed and relaunch iPhoto with the option key depressed to set the library location if you have changed that
    Good luck

Two things to try to see if iphoto stops crashing.
    1. From your preferences directory drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to your desktop and loaunch iphoto to see if it fixes your problem.  I'm a little leary of doing this since all your iphoto preferences will be recreated from scratch.  So if this experiment doesn't work replace the recreated one in Preferences with the old original one you dragged on to your desktop.
    2. Boot in safe mode.  Play with iphoto a little bit to see if it fails.  Whether it fails or not reboot normally.  Safe mode will suppress all third party additions, your login items, as well as doing a little bit of cleaning (e.g., some caches).  So it will be interesting to know if iphoto runs in safe mode and then after rebooting normally.

    Hi Jake,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    And.or...
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • Finder & most applications quitting unexpectedly

I'm opening a new topic on this because I've gone through the ones already existing and none of the solutions seems to be helping.
    Some specs:
    OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
Processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16G (newly installed a few months ago) 1333 MHz DDR3
    The problem:
My system kept slowing down/freezing/giving me the spinning wheel of death so I checked the Permissions, Repaired them even though what was off seemed benign.  I verified Disk and it was fine.  I did have an external hard drive that was acting funny so I ran the Disk Verify there and it was corrupted, so I Disk Repaired, and the second Disk Verify came back clean.  In the days leading up to this, other applications like Chrome and Safari also quit unexpectedly, and Chrome was incredibly laggy.  Mail and Skype never crashed though (I saw that was a symptomatic issue for others).  Also, if it's important, it takes me exactly 2 executions of "restart" or "shut down" for the system to do it.  The first execution does nothing.
Now, I have the Finder in its entirey quitting unexpectedly (including navbar at the top which blacks out and just leaves an imprint of the icons).
    What I did:
    1) Reboot, didn't do anything.
    2) Safe Booted (with Shift), the Finder appears but it disgustingly slow, so Rebooted normally.  Same problem.
    3) Option!Booted, tried to delete the com.apple.finder file (got it into trash but then the Trash wouldn't open so I could empty it).  Also got a com.apple.finder.[gibberish] in that same area so I tried to delete that too.  Also got com.apple.sidebarlists.plist and com.apple.recentitems.plist in the Trash. Rebooted normally, the Finder worked but I noticed the Trash hadn't empties so I was able to empy the trash, then Rebooted.  Finder quit unexpectedly as soon as the system boots up.
    4) During the window of usage in #3, I ran my terminal to search for some Flashback trojan some people were talking about but it came back empty.
    5) Safe Booted (Shift) again to get my specs for this post and I was able to, but when I closed the little window, Finder quit unexpectedly in safe boot. (I f
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone have a solution I haven't tried yet?  And if that solution is to boot from the disk, I'd like to mitigate as much loss as possible (naturally).  I already have most of my stuff backed up so that isn't a huge problem.  What I don't want to lose are my browser preferences (bookmarks, history).  I found Application Support/Google/Chrome but do I just take the whole folder or just a specific file?  I remember doing it for my iTunes playlists but that was just a .plist file, not an entire folder.

  • IPhoto '11 quits unexpectedly when ordering a book, gets about 2 pages loaded and then quits.

IPhoto '11 quits unexpectedly when I place an order for a book.  After about 2 pages are uploaded or processed (the first step) iPhoto quits.  Software is up to date and I have ordered books before in earlier versions of iPhoto.  This is the first order in iPhoto '11.
iPhoto has quit unexpectedly before but this is consistent when ordering a book.

I have the exact same problem. If you try to "export as PDF" the same thing happens even with a new book project with no text and no photos. (You can make a PDF via the print command but that doesn't help much when ordering a book.)
I deleted the iPhoto plist, did a restart, checked for bad fonts, checked and rebuilt the iPhoto library, tried signing in as a different user, checked for updates, repaired permissions, all to no avail. (I don't have any third party iPhoto plug-ins.)
I happened to have another hard drive with a fresh OS on it - I installed iLife on it, did a software update. I opened iPhoto and picked my existing library and everything worked with out an issue and I was able to order my book.
I assume that there is a software conflict in my system, I just don't have an idea what it could be.
I think I'll wait for 10.7 and get a new hard drive and get a fresh start - unless someone can come up with a solution...

  • IPhoto "buy book" order fails at end of upload

I have created a 20 pg hard-covered book in iPhoto which I can preview with no problems and I can create a pdf version of it (34.6MB). However, when attempting to buy the book, I get an error message with CANCEL/RETRY as my options at the very end of the upload process. I have tried the following, but still no success:
    (1) safe boot - iPhoto crashes immediately at "BUY BOOK" selection
    (2) set energy savers to off - dies at end of upload
    (3) duplicated the book and tried to purchase duplicated version - dies at end of upload
    (4) changed the theme of the book and tried to purchase it - dies at end of upload
    (5) created a simple card and purchased it with no problems (so my account is fine) and I cancelled the order thereafter
Each page of the book has 2 portrait photos with minimal text underneath. The largest photo size is 4.6MB. All photos are JPGs. I rebooted my iMac each time before trying (2)-(5) above. I am running version 9.4.3 (720.91) of iPhoto. I have turned off my TimeMachine backup too and have all other applications closed when I attempt to purchase the book. To date, I have never had a problem purchasing books (last one in Dec 2012).
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Sadly, no change after updating v10.8.5(combo). A normal boot with an attempt to "buy book" from iPhoto, gets almost to the end of the upload and then gives me the following error:
In Safe boot, I get to the beginning of the Assembly process and iPhoto crashes. Here is a portion of the problem details:
I compiled my book on Thursday evening, thinking that would be the painstaking part. Purchasing it has become too much of a time consuming adventure! I did call Apple Technical Support last evening and the service agent suggested that I check the Apple Support Community discussions, so thank you for taking a greater interest in my problem.
One other thing I found regarding problems submitting photobook orders is at the bottom of http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2516. An excerpt from this webpage is below, but I can't find the "NetServices" entry in my Keychain Access window to try this fix. Do you think this is a piece to my puzzle or simply old info as it was last modified on May 24, 2012?
Again, I was able to order a photocard (cancelled the order within 90 minute window) as a test, so I don't believe I have an account problem.
    excerpt:
If you are using iPhoto '08 or iPhoto '09 and are unable to submit your order after following the steps above, please follow these steps to reset your Keychain:
    Quit iPhoto.
From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Utilities to access your Utilities folder (or press Shift-Command-U).
In your Utilities folder, open Keychain Access.
Find the "NetServices" entry in your Keychain Access window.
Select the "NetServices" entry and press the delete key.
Reopen iPhoto and attempt to place your order again.
You should be prompted to enter your account information if you deleted the Keychain entry successfully.
After entering your account information, you should be able to complete your order.
If you are unsuccessful with submitting your order, please contact Apple Technical Support.
