IPod back-up of Games...

I set my iPod up to manually handle all of my files. Last night, I completely lost my system drive and have had to zero-out the drive and reload OSX. All of my music was on an external drive, but the games were on the corrupt drive and are lost. When I go to plug my iPod into my computer, am I going to lose my games? Or can I use my iPod as a backup?

You should try connecting the iPod to another computer if it is set to automatically synchronize. If it is set to manually synchronize you don't have to worry about it. You should be able to use a program like YamiPod to copy the games off of the iPod before you try to synchronize again. When you get the games off the iPod, copy them over to the iPod's hard drive via disk mode (the hard drive that appears on your computer. That way, you will have a more easily accessible copy for the future. Same goes for any iTunes Store files, as long as you have room. Otherwise, another external drive will do.

  • Can I transfer the games on my iPod back to iTunes?

In June I purchased 3 iPod games from iTunes Store and have transfered them to my iPod, they work fine. However since my purchase i have upgraded to a new PC and no longer have the original games in my iTunes so when I recently purchased Tetris from iTunes Store, if I attempt to transfer it to my iPod I get the following warning "Are you sure you want to sync games? All existing games on the iPod "Venpi's iPod" will be replaced with this iTunes library"
So how do I transfer my most recent game with out loosing the others games currently on my iPod? Can I transfer the games on my iPod back to iTunes?

I would like to know this as well!

  • Hi i just backed up my games in icloud on my ipod tuch 4. now i cannot bring them back to my ipod how can i do that thank you

hi i just backed up my games in icloud on my ipod tuch 4. now i cannot bring them back to my ipod how can i do that thank you

    Redownload the apps by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Synced media like apps and music are not included in the iPod backup that iTunes or iCloud makes. If you restore via USB/iTunes the apps have to be in the iTunes library in order to be restored.

  • My ipod goes during the game or program after about 5 minutes back to the iPod menu. Play in which I've paid for!

  • Where can i find where ipod backs up files on computer

had old ipod turned in, didnt know i would need UDID number for game data. have ipod backed up on computer, will that number have been backed up? and if so how do i find it? i called apple and they didnt even know what that number was. please help, spent alot of money on game add ons and now there gone unless i can find number on computer

I've never heard of any app other than one in developer testing asking for the UDID. In any case, to the best of my knowledge, there's no way to get a UDID for a device you no longer have. It's not exposed in the backups as the serial number is.

  • Bring back click wheel games

would like to start a petition for apple to bring back click wheel games, if I had of realised they no longer had the games then I wouldn't have brought the classic but classics rock lots of storage and long battery life, also the games were pretty cool, BRING BACK CLICK WHEEL GAMES, I did have a collection of games on my old ipod but have got a new computer and I'm guessing there is no way to get them back, if not on itunes store then just put them on pirate bay for us

That's a long shot...  And those games are owned by their developers/publishers, so Apple can't give them away for free, even if Apple wanted to "put them on pirate bay."
If you have a backup of your iTunes data from your old computer, you can find the game files in the iTunes Media folder, in the iPod Games sub-folder.  You can put the files at the same location in on your current computer's iTunes Media folder, and they should be available for syncing in iTunes.
The only "click wheel game" I bought was Spore Origins, and it was pretty good.  I can still sync it to my 5th gen iPod nano and play it.  However, games are MUCH better (and more numerous) on an iPod touch, and they often cost less (or are free); that's the future of "iPod games."

  • Ipod freeze due to games

My 60gig ipod is frozen at the game screen, and it wont shut off or anything.

I cant turn it off, it wont recognize itself in itunes if i plug it in to my computer..nothing..
I have tried the soft reset (hold, menu and center key), i have tried to reset it in tunes, and it is still stuck..
any solutions or did i just fry my ipod?

  • HT4314 I have just got a new ipod touch but my game centre games are on the old one and i don't want to start them again, can I transfer the stage i'm at or anything?

I have just got a new ipod touch but my game centre games are on the old one and i don't want to start them again, can I transfer the stage i'm at or anything?

The progress for some games will transfer since some games synce progress to a cental server. For other games you will have to have the backup of the old iPod.
You can restore from backup or access the backup. See:
How to transfer game saves between iOS devices, without iTunes, and without jailbreaking | TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog
If you have acces to the old iPod yu can make a backup by connecting the iPod to the computer and right click on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore from that backup.

  • Help-Upload from IPOD back toG5  How to?

We recently lost our hard drive on our G5. Partially backed up only. Entire Tunes Library was lost. Vast majority were imported from CDs, not purchased from I-Tunes library. So, my question is this. Is there anyway for me to upload all of the tunes on my IPOD back to my G5 I Book?
Any suggestions? Thank you. We also have a MACBOOK if that helps.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • PLEASE HELP!! How Do You Restore ITunes Library From IPOD Back To Computer

My entire library on intunes has been deleted and now all I have left is the music which i still stored on my ipod. I have done a total search on my PC and there is no track listings at all. My only chance is to restore the itunes library from the Ipod back to the PC. Is this possible and how do you do it. Am totally gutted and cant beleive the files are gone. Plllllease help me.

If you're using iTunes 7, you can copy purchased music back to iTunes directly. If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:

Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.

  • Laptop crashed and how to transfer music from ipod back to laptop and won't transfer new purchases to ipod?

My laptop crashed about 2 days ago. I got it fixed and had to reinstall it. I had to reinstall itunes all over again. How do I transfer all my songs from my ipod including the ones that were from hardcopies and by hardcopies I mean cds I bought in real life and is on a disc. All of the songs are still on my ipod so how do I upload all of the songs and videos (purchases, music/songs from hardcopies/cds uploaded not bought from itunes, etc...?) How would I upload all of that back to itunes on my laptop? Another question is for some reason when I hook up my ipod to my laptop, I recently bought 23 songs about a day ago and it won't upload those purchases to my ipod, is it because I have all the hardcopies and downloads on my ipod that the itunes library doesnt have? Also, how would I sync my newest purchases to my ipod efficiently without deleting any of the hardcopies I uploaded before my laptop crashed?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • I downloaded 2 cds onto my ipod nano through itunes.  Recently my itunes account changed and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds.  How to transfer from ipod back to itunes?  I don't have the cds anymore.

I downloaded 2 cds onto my ipod nano through itunes.  Recently my itunes account changed for some unknown reason and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds.  The songs are still on my ipod.  I am affraid to sync now because the songs may be deleated, and I don't have the cds anymore.  How can I transfer the songs from the cds on my ipod back to itunes so that I don't lose them?

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not your "account."  The "account" you have for iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use when purchasing or downloading from the iTunes Store.  If these songs came from music CDs that you imported into iTunes, those songs are not related to your Apple ID.
Recently my itunes account changed for some unknown reason and now it doesn't recognize the songs from the cds
How are they not "recognized"?  Are the songs still listed in your iTunes music library, but grayed out?  They no longer appear in your iTunes library at all?
If you search your computer (not in iTunes) for the song files, using one of the song names, can you find the song files?
