IPod can not be synced
Like many others i'm having a **** of a time syncing my 2 iPods. 5th gen video and 2nd gen shuffle. They are both coming up with the same errors when trying to manually sync.
The ipod "xxx" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.
I have tried several different things including restoring both ipods all to no avail. I even left the video one resoring over night without it doing a **** thing. I think that iTunes froze up.
I only think all of this happened when i updated iTunes to the lateset version.
I need help my daughter wants some more songs on her shuffle soon.
Cheers
Windows XP
this first error message, about "disk failed to write [...]" is the one i got. i didn't know about the article - thanks. before i do, are any of the suggestions worth pursuing if itunes doesn't recognize my ipod? i.e. my ipod doesn't start up? after i got the error message, my ipod was frozen and so was itunes. i wanted to see if any of the 9 gbs or so of songs that seemed to have been transferred made it onto the ipod. i repeatedly tried safely removing the ipod but kept getting a error about the, "generic volume." so i shut down itunes via ctrl/alt/del + end program. after doing that and unplugging the ipod i got the queasy face. i'm not sure if that was a result of the error while synching (disk failed to write...) or from aborting itunes and unplugging the ipod or a combination of both actions.

The iPod can not be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.
I try several time to send my song list from libraly to iPod. But it's show me that " The iPod can not be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to. "
About this problem i try to do manythings follow some reply for advice me. but i still got problem. and i try to check something in my PC and found something wrong. i go to properties of disk drive and go to hard ware that show me all hard drive i have include Apple iPod USB Device. i go to properties for check it and see
Device status :
No driver are installed for this device
Device usage :
Use this device (enable)
i'm not sure that because of this problem? if yes, how to do? because i do manythings such as use 5 R's and program reset utility. But i still got this problem. Help me plz.Sorry to see your having these issues Jihant. Posted below I have some links that may assist you with your troubleshooting steps.
One of the first things you may want to look at is
1. Download and Install latest iTunes Software. You should have iTunes 7.2
2. You stated earlier you did the 5 Rs. So you have done a Reset and Restore. I would give it one more shot after you upgraded iTunes as needed.
If this still does not resolve the issue. Try copying songs over 1 at a time. Do not copy over a playlist. Then try a new play list all together. Create a new playlist.
You can also take a CD you may have and put import songs into iTunes then see if those songs will copy over.
You may also create a new user and open up iTunes in a new user and import a cd with some songs and see if the same issue occurs.
You can also try
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
And if this still does not work for you. You may want to try another computer.
or if the above article does not resolve the issue

If this still occurs please call Apple for further assistance

I am trying to update my iPod but I can't until I sync it. However when i try to sync it a message pops up and says "Blythes iPod" can not be synced because a session can not be started with this device. What do I do? Help!
https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
Ah, it has been mentioned daily esp since iOS 5 / iTunes 10.5 but has always been there as an issue.
Order of attempts:
Repair the installers
Uninstall EVERY Apple component (auto and manual)
Services: Restart all 3 Apple items (AMS, Bonjour, iPod)
I* always do the last almost, then launch iTunes, and only then connect iPod.
IF you see a yellow alert in Devices and Printers or in Device Manager, then I could find NO WAY to fix or repair other than a clean OS. Something messed up the device driver support.
If/when Windows asks "what to do when it detects iPod"? don't chose any default action, to me, based on hunch and 3 PCs, that seems to mess AMS up for some reason.
Tried with Windows 7 64-bit Pro and Home Premium, and also Deve Preview 8 (which other than the inability to update iOS to 5.0 seems to run better -- except when it comes to AMS thing! so seems Apple is not on the same page writitng drivers. -
Ipod can not be synced the required disc cannot be found
Can anyone tell me how to solve the error:
"ipod can not be synced the required disc can not be found.
I found a similiar post, but then lost it when my computer froze up
and now I can't locate it.
ThanksOh my God! I'm having the exact problem with my new 30G iPod with video, which I got as a replacement with my warranteed iPod. It resets itself when I sync, or even when I restore the iPod. I was on the phone for two hours with multiple Apple technicians, who couldn't figure out what's wrong and asked me to send it for repair. You know what? They couldn't find anything wrong with it, so they sent it back. Not surprisingly, it still doesn't work. To be sure that it's not my system that's causing this problem, I tried syncing on two computers, two operating systems (WINDOW XP and OS X), and two USB cables. So I'm definitely sure it's not my system, which leads me to think I also got a LEMON! Now I am on the phone yet again, actually am being put on hold for the millionth time. I wonder if michlexi, or anyone with the same problem, was able to find resolution??

ipod canot be synced the required file cannot be found
Hi folks. Am REALLY struggling here and hoping for some help. I too am constantly getting the 'iPhone can not be synced' message since upgrading to a new MacBook and trying to sync my iPhone 3GS. Have tried updating to latest iPhone software and hasn't helped. Have tried all the stuff mentioned above (dumping that file etc) and no luck. When I go to my sync page for photos, even if i un-tick the sync photos option altogether, this error keeps appearing. Very odd and very frustrating. Can't sync - seems to stall at last step of the process every time.
I'm guessing it is photo related as the pics on my iPhone are now all lowres and blurry, and it is asking for sync to iTunes to get high res images onto the phone.
Also have problem going the 'other way'! WHen I go to iPhoto on Mac and try to download new photos taken on iPhone.. I keep getting the message 'The following file could not be imported. The file is an unrecognized format."
help please

Ipod can not sync photos after iTunes upgrade
I upgraded to iTunes 10.0.1.22 a few days ago. I plugged in my ipod and get the message, "ipod can not be synced. required folder can not be found" and after this message another, "...device cannot be found" I have not deleted or moved any folders.
I have never had trouble with syncing my ipod before. What's different? any suggestions?if you guys own Aperture, a new update just fixed my issues.
I didn't even think Aperture was an issue since I never selected to sync using aperture. But now my iPhoto options are not grayed out to select partial library options, and the full library sync finally shows my accurate 12.8 gigs of space in the colored device fill bar at the bottom of iTunes sync.

I've had a fault with the hard drive on my laptop, it's been replaced and now my iphone and ipod can not sync unpurchased items with itunes. Is there anyway of sorting this without uploading all of my CD's again?
If your CDs are on your iPod/iPhone, they can be recovered from there, see this post:

Whenever I try to sync my iPod Touch 5th gen with iTunes I get an error message saying "The iPod "*****" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start". Is there any way I can fix this?
B-rock, thanks for posting the above. I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message. I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?
Thank you! -
i have ipod classic 5gen it will not sync with windows the error message says ipod can not sync as required file missing wht to do???
Although you used the new USB 3.0 port, the actual connection speed is still USB2.0, as the iPod Dock connector, does not have the 10 times faster USB3.0 signal pins, the connection speed is still 480Mbits/s
I assumed that you have tried the other USB 2.0 port to no success..
Can you do the iPod Disk diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.

Old ipod, can not get it to connect with itunes & i no longer have the computer it was once synced to. It will not allow me to do anything but turn it off & on.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode. -
hi i cany sync my ipod shuffle it keeps saying ipod can not be found and wont restore any help would be great
Any ideas of what might have changed since the last time it was able to successfully connect? Did you recently install any new software or USB peripherals/drivers that could be causing some sort of conflict?
What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting?
Does the Shuffle still charge while you have it plugged in?

I just got this iPod today and my last iPod touch broke back in november, so I have no clue what the passcode could be. I tried resetting it to factory settings but an error window pops up and and says that it can not be synced even though it got to the part where it says "Connect to iTunes" but then it shuts down. I don't know what to do, I live no where near an apple store and I don't have the money to fix it. Plus it has a cracked screen if that tells you anything.
Make sure you have the Latest Version of iTunes (v11.1.5) Installed on your computer
iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download

If that Article does not resolve it... then you have a problem.
Perhaps a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is required..
Be sure to make an appointment first...
Note:
That error message may be indicative of the Device being Hacked / jailbroken.... If this is the case then you are on your own.
