Ipod cannot be synced, unknown error (-50)

I receive the above error when I try to get my new (less then 7 days) 30gb ipod to sync my pictures from iphoto. If i disable the iphoto option i can sync everything else OK. I've also treid restoring the ipod (twice) and still no luck.
One thing I've noticed is that when I enable the iphoto option it doesnt allow to me choose selected albums.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
(ps Music=7GB, Iphoto=2000 pics (around 2GB). Its a 2gb intel imac, 1gb ram, 250 gb drive. all up to date).

It was actually a problem with my iphoto library,
this sorted it.

    _Help needed please!_
I've just got a new laptop, downloaded the latest version of itunes on it, connected my ipod to it (old click wheel version 20GB) and this error message keeps popping up:
*'The ipod "ipods name" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured. (-48)'*
I've never had a problem with my ipod or itunes before, but now this error keeps occuring and it won't let me add any music to my ipod or remove any music from my ipod.
I preferably don't want to restore my ipod because i don't have all the music on it on my new laptop, so I'd lose a lot. I gather syncing the ipod will match what's in the itunes library to the actual ipod? I don't want to do this anyway as I have nothing in my itunes library & i don't want the music that is on my ipod removed, so i'm very confused....
*Anyone have any ideas of what i should do?????*

Your iPod will mimic your iTunes so if there is no music in the library it will wipe the other music that you have on there off so if you don't want to lose the music its probably not a good idea to connect it
    as for the error
the same thing happened to mine for a while when i first got my ipod it would sync 250 songs or so and then come up with the same thing.

  • Im trying to put music on my iPod, but it keeps saying "iPod cannot be synced unknown error occurred". Whats wrong?

I tried to put music on my ipod and it keeps saying "cannot sync ipod unknown error occured" whats wrong??

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • TS1425 5th Generation Nano iPod.  The iPod syncs on iTunes when I connect it to my MAC, but when I try to add a song from iTunes to the iPod, I receive the message "Cannot be synced, unknown error occurred (1039)

5th generation iPod Nano - iPod syncs with my iTunes and I can see it in iTunes, but when I try to move a song from my iTunes to the iPod I get an error message "Cannot by synced, Unknown error occurred (1039).  System works fine with my 4th generation iPod Nano.  I'm afraid to "RESET" my iPod because I may not be able to restore my music and videos afterwards.

    Hello Ventanilla 97,
I agree with planb77 with recreating your itunes library. That will fix your issue. If you would like more step by step info go here:

  • IPod cannot be updated Unknown error-48

Help - have installed iTunes 7.0.1 and am trying to keep ALL the music on my iPod so have tried to set the options to manual update. But although the computer senses the iPod is connected, when I try and drag new files to my iPod, I get the message "iPod cannot be updated Unknown error-48" Any advice gratefully received

    Hey!
Just an update since last week.
Still comes up with the "Unknown Error_48" when coupled to the Mac.Doesn't sync to iTunes and says it's upto date in the summary.Never had any issues like this (until iTunes 7 and 1.2).Kinda renders the whole iPod thing a bit useless.
Being able to update the library on your Pod is essential.Otherwise what's the point? My Pod still 'works'but not quite the way Apple intended I think.
    SORT IT OUT APPLE!!

  • Keep getting message "ipad cannot be synced, unknown error (1150)...what does that mean?

Whenever I try to sync my iPad I keep getting message "iPad cannot be synced, unknown error" with code (1150).  What does that mean?

This happened to me after I upgraded to iOS6.
Tried everything I could find in a common thread here on the site, but what finally worked was...well, the last thing I did before it allowed a sync, I guess I can't say for sure that this is the problem, but...somehow, in the sync settings for the iPad, the "Sync Only Checked Songs and Videos" box had become unchecked.  Clearly, there isn't enough room on the iPad for everything on the laptop, so I think this may have been choking it.
    Worked fine at that point.
And, for what it's worth, I looked at the Music tab for my iPad in iTunes, and THERE it said only to use selected artists and playlists, but on the main SUMMARY page, the box was unchecked.
Oh, and I updated all the apps on the iPad (73 updates??) before trying the sync, so that might be a factor too.
    Good luck.

  • Iphone cannot be synced unknown error 1156

For some reason, when I tried to sync my iPhone 4 (iOS 6) today, I got this error on my iMac and it showed my iPhone as being 'overfull' - which ws intreresting!
I carried out a restore to original settings and restored from a backup I made about 3 weeks ago - but got the same problem.  I was backing up using the cable or wireless with the same response.
I wonder if there is a problem with the port on my iPhone, because it is now syncing, but only after I removed the cable and replaced it more carefully.  It will take some time to sync my music, and it is doing it, but my apps and photos are missing.  Will these be synced in turn?
That'll teach me to cancel my iPhone 5 order!
    Thanks

I had the same problem.  Happened twice in a row.  So I shut down itunes and opened it up again.  Problem solved.  Worked for me, anyway.  Good luck.

  • Cannot Sync Unknown Error -50

OK, here is the issue as concisely as I can put it.  I have just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.0.3 and updated iTunes to 11.1.2.  Today I downloaded an app from a third party site (reputable) which then opened iTunes and clicked download.  I then went to sync my iPhone only to discover I was logged into iTunes as, my Apple ID.  Unfortunatly being an early user of iTunes my iTunes and App Store login ID is not my Apple ID.  So I logged out of my Apple ID and logged back in using my usual login and password which is the same on my iPhone for iTunes and App Store.  I then received a "this iPhone cannot be Synced Unknown Error -50"  The app I downloaded appears in each login but the phone stops syncing when it reaches apps.
So should I delete the app from my purchases in my Apple ID login and try again?  I have already removed it from my Mobile Apps folder.
And can I get rid of the Apple ID account in iTunes?  I have checked purchases in this account and apart from the app I downloaded today ther's nothing in it.
Is there a way to merge the two accounts?
    I'm confused.

  • How can you get your music synced from iTunes to your iPod when a window pop ups on the screen saying"The iPod "Edward's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019))?

I had 429 songs already on my iPod Touch. When I was in the process of syncing a song from my iTunes Library on to my iPod, a window popped up on the screen saying, ""The iPod "Edward's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019)). I click "Device" on my iTunes Library to make sure the song was in my iPod. It showed the song that was recently synced now listed under "Device", but when I physically looked for the song on my iPod Touch, it does not appear on there at all. It all started when I decided to put a Playlist I created in the iTunes Library and transferred it on to my iPod. Do you know why it may affected my syncing process and is there any way where I could get the syncing function back to normal so that I can continue adding songs on my iPod? Thank you for listening.    P.S. My iPod iOS version is 4.3.5.

  • Ipod cannot be synced.  Unknown error (-48)

I've had my 80 gig ipod classic for 4 months now, and I've had very few problems with it. Whenever I've had an issue with iTunes not recognizing the ipod when I plugged it in, it was easily resolved with a reset or reinstalling iTunes, or restarting the computer. However, today when I went to add some new files to my ipod, I had to install the newest version, 1.1.1, and after installing that version and trying to sync the files to my ipod, iTunes simply refused. Repeatedly I'd get the error "Ipod cannot be synced. Unknown error (-48). I've been browsing this site and others to find an answer, I've tried all the standard ipod fixes (five Rs) and toggled with the syncing options, namely syncing only checked songs and manual sync, and it won't load any new music either way. I have Windows XP home edition on a Sony Vaio that's a few years old, and I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me fix this issue with my ipod.
    <edit>
Another thing I've noticed is that when I leave my ipod plugged into my computer, the "other" part of what's on my ipod increases slowly. There's actually more of this orange "other" data on my ipod than music, and there's absolutely nothing on my ipod except a few thousand music files and two videos. At least, there shouldn't be.
    null

Oh yes, me too. Two days ago I bought my 160GB iPod Classic, but I have not been able to put anything in it. First the sync seemed to take hours (ca.6GB/1400 songs) and finally I had to disconnect without eject, because the iTunes and my computer got jammed. Again and again the same thing. Unknown error (-48) I recall.
Then after updating the iPod software (now 1.1.1) and reinstalling the iTunes a couple of times, the iTunes does not recognise my iPod at all. iPod says first it is syncing, then just connected, but nothing in iTunes.
Like a kid with who has a brand new toy, but is not able to play with it.
I tried calling the Apple support, but they just dodged the question and apparently had no idea. Anyone, how can I get some music into my brand new iPod?

  • FIX: Ipod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-48)

    Hey everybody,
I just wanted to share with you a solution that my friend and I have used to eliminate the "iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-48)" error. I have a iPod Photo 60 gig that has not had this error before....until 3 days ago. I tried to drop a few songs onto my iPod and it gave me this error. After talking with my friend, I realized that a few things had happened that I didn't think were variables at first. For one thing, I had just updated my iTunes to version 7.4.1.2. That same day, I also had a new update to Windows XP sp2. When I restarted my computer (to complete my iTunes update), both install were now active.
I tried to add new songs to my iPod and I kept getting this Cannot Sync error. The songs would get onto my iPod and I could play them from the iPod via iTunes. Once I disconnected my iPod and tried to play them, the songs were gone. iTunes was failing to save the songs on the iPod.
Resolution: I connected my iPod to a 3rd party interface (to replace iTunes) and it worked. The interface is called Yamipod and this is where you get it from:
    http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/downloads/
When I connected it to my iPod, it identified some bad file and corrected (or replaced) it with a good file. I added songs via Yamipod and they were correctly synced to my iPod. And the best part is, after I used Yamipod my iTunes was now working correctly. I told my friend at work to try this out and it worked for her too. She mentioned that she used Yamipod and then updated her version of Quicktime before everything started working.
All I have to say is that the latest release of iTunes was probably incompatible with Windos XP and some file was corrupted. Like iTunes, Yamipod probably needed this file to sync correctly...so it just overwrote the file, compared to iTunes, which just compained about being broken.
One more thing, Yamipod is a free tool that you can use to extrasct songs from your iPod to your computer. That is the main reason why I use it, but now I realise it's more stable than iTunes too!
Good luck out there, it ***** to have an iPod that you can't add songs to.

First off, have you tried these five iPod troubleshooting steps?:
    The Five Rs
If you have, then let's move onto a few general possible troubleshooting fixes, since the solution to a -48 error on a PC is somewhat unknown or various.
See if assigning your iPod a different drive letter helps, following the instructions from this article:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
Try reformatting your iPod to FAT32, through your computer. Then, we'll restore it in iTunes afterward. To do that, see these steps:
1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
2 - When iTunes has finished syncing with your iPod, open "My Computer".
3 - Right-click on your iPod, and click on "Format". (If your iPod is not showing in My Computer, make sure that disk use is enabled in iTunes).
4 - Here, verify that your formatting settings are "Default", with the format type set for FAT32. Also, make sure that "Quick Scan" is not selected.
5 - Then, click on "OK" to begin the formatting process.
6 - When this is complete (it might take a while), make sure to restore your iPod in iTunes again, so as to properly reload the firmware back onto it again.
Finally, this could be caused by digital signing issues on your computer. See the "Solution 1" section of this article for help regarding that possible cause:
iTunes displays a -50 error when syncing iPod
Any success with any of those things, or do you still have the error?
