Ipod cannot sync file not found

Itunes will not sync ipod. it says "ipod mickey cannot sync, required file not found." but it is showing my ipod in itunes. can anyone help?

That can sometimes be caused by a damaged ipod photo cache.
If you remove the current ipod photo cache, does that get you past the error?
For instructions on where to find it, see the following document:

  • "ipod cannot update - file not found" after getting new ipod

i had my ipod replaced today at the apple store because of a bad HD. Seems like the one they gave me was brand new...anyway after following the restore/charge directions, i went to go plug it into my dock and Itunes is telling me it can't update the ipod because the file is missing. i definitely have the latest update installer, and i even tested playlist syncs with the new ipod and it definitely updates songs/playlists, but after that it gives me the error message about not being able to update.
i ran the last updater, and it says my ipod is up to date.
what's going wrong? i must have done something wrong.

    or not....i spoke too soon!
it's doing it AGAIN. after it started updating after restoring all was well, it tried to add my whole library which won't fit.
when it add's a "library selection" instead automatically, it fills up my ipod so that the photos won't update.
then when i re-mount the ipod, it gives me the same old error message again about missing the file required for updating!?!?!?
i wish my preference to "manually add songs" instead of syncing the library would save in Itunes when i restore my Ipod. it's making it impossible for me to get things working properly after restoring....

  • When sycning photos get error message: can't sync file not found

Trying to sync my wife's new 3gs to my macbook Pro.  Never had any problems syncing my phone. With hers I can sync everything but photos. I get an error message saying can't sync file not found.  I have no idea what file it is looking for or whether it is missing from the phone or my computer.

Thanks so much. The file path wasn't exactly the same as the link said, but it was close enough that I found it in a few minutes. Trashed the ipod cache as instructed, and now all my iphones and ipods have synced photos. Thanks again, would have never found that file on my own.

  • Please how do I fix this on my ipod nano "required file not found"

I had my computer fixed and so I had redownload itunes again. All my my music got saved to a folder as a backup.Well when I downloaded it,I put all the songs on itunes and tried to sync my ipod to add new music. But,it kept saying it won't sync since required folder is not found.I've looked everywhere online to see what to do.I tried uninstalling everything and again multiple times. The same error kept popping up.I switched to Manually manage music to see if it fixed the problem but no.A different error "the song....could be copied error ..." I switched back to sync.Nothing worked!!I tried restoring but it took so long as if it couldn't work it out.Previously I had this same computer fixed and when I downloaded again itunes it worked perfectly fine until now.Can somebody please guide me what to do?I cannot afford a new one.

How many songs do you have, and how long did you give it? I have my 16gb Nano almost to capacity, and it took between 45 minutes to an hour or so the last time I restored the whole thing.

  • Shuffle won't sync file not found

I can't add songs to my ipod shuffle 4 - receive an error message - file not found

If you subscribe to Apple's iTunes Match service, and iTunes Match has matched or uploaded your iTunes music library into iCloud, did you then delete the song files stored on the computer's local drive?  If you did, you will not be able to sync your shuffle.  The song files need to be stored locally on the computer being used for syncing the shuffle.  Is this the case here?

  • Trying to move itunes to another pc. now cant sync, files not found even though theyre showing in itunes

Ive tried to move my itunes to another pc. I copied all onto and external harddrive and transfered to the other laptop. It all shows up in the itunes libruary and i can play them but when i try and sync to my iphone it comes with an exclamation mark and says the original file cannot be found and nothing goes on my phone. Totally stuck and confused!!

Then something did not transfer correctly.
What exactly did you copy?  Was it the ENTIRE iTunes folder?  If not... start over and copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder.

when i try to synch my i-pod i get a message that says 'required file cannot be found' this files appear to be song imported into i tunes not the one purchased. I have tried restoreing the i-pod but nothing seems to work.

Do these problem tracks play in iTunes or do they have an exclamation point next to them?  If they are missing from your library, see this support article.

  • Syncing to iphone file not found

says cannot sync file not found..? where did it go? never had this problem before

FOund this answer elsewhere and seems to be a good fix.
Unfortunately, iTunes doesn’t say exactly what file is missing. While playing with the sync options in iTunes I found out, that the problem is related to Apple Aperture 3 in my case. If you’re using iPhoto instead of Apple Aperture, you may find a solution in this Apple support note. If you’re getting this error message in iTunes and you’re syncing your Aperture 3 library (or parts of it) to your iPhone, I may have a solution for you.
Make sure Aperture, iTunes and iPhoto are closed. Use cmd-Q to terminate them if they’re still open.
    Open Finder
Navigate to your Home -> Pictures folder
Right-click the “Aperture Library.aplibrary” folder and select “Show Package Contents”
You should see a folder named “iPod Photo Cache”
    Delete this folder
    Start iTunes
Re-enable photo synchronisation in the photo sync tab
Click “Sync Photos” in the dialog that pops up
Choose Aperture to sync sync photos from
iTunes will say that your iPhone is synced to another photo library. Click yes to overwrite the old settings in iPhone.
That’s it! Your iPhone should be syncing without errors now!

  • IPod cannot be synced. Required file not found?

I havent had any trouble syncing my ipod until last week when i purchased a song. When i dragged the song to a playlist on my ipod, it appeared grey in my playlist (because it was still loading) and then disappeared. I repeated this until i gave up and I reported this as an issue to itunes. When i tried again it worked and i thought maybe the problem had fixed itself, but i tried to add a CD to my ipod a few days ago and it only synced half of the songs. Now when i try to sync the leftover songs an error box pops up saying "The iPod (name of ipod) cannot be synced. Required file not found."
Some songs will sync perfectly normal, some load but disappear, some eventually just sync, and some won't sync at all. Has anyone had this problem/ can anyone help SOLVE it? please and thank you!!!

    Try this:
    Let your iPod charge up.
Attempt to sync a large play list.
When the iPod shuts down and you get the error message, quickly click through the dialog boxes on iTunes so when the iPod comes back up iTunes will attempt to sync again.
When the sync starts again after the iPod reboot, click the little X in the bar that shows how many tracks have been loaded. This will stop the sync and you'll be able to eject your iPod.
After it's been ejected, unplug the connector from the iPod and see what happens to the battery indicator. Mine goes down to almost gone and red - then after a few minutes it comes up to about 2/3 strength - but it should be full after being fully charged and just syncing a few hundred tracks.

  • The iPod cannot be synced. The required file not found"

The iPod cannot be synced. The required file not found" is this something i can fix? i have tried everything.

    Hi,
here's a work around for the "the required file cannot be found" problem when syncing
go to your 'iphoto library' in pictures,
    locate your 'originals' folder
ctrl click it and select 'create alias'
drag your 'originals alias' folder to your 'pictures' folder.
go to itunes with your ipod/iphone attached
    click your ipod/iphone
    select the 'photos' tab
next to 'sync photos from' click the drop down menu
    click 'choose folder'
    find your 'originals alias' folder
    select the photos you want.
now your ipod/iphone will now sync your photos.
    enjoy

  • Cannot Sync, Required file not found!

Plz help. I just updated itunes and now when i plug in my ipod, it wont sync,it says, "The ipod "name withheld's ipod" cannot sync. required file not found."

It's possible that the iPod Photo Cache folder on your computer, which is created from syncing photos to your iPod, is interfering with the syncing.
Try deleting the folder from your computer. See this for details:
Photo Sync creates iPod photo Cache
Then, try resyncing your iPod with your computer, and see if it is sucessful or not.

  • Getting error message file not found unable to sync to ipod

90 percent of my music from my playlists wont load to my ipod. It has loaded in the past nut now i get message file not found unable to sync. Meanwhile I can play all of this music out of itunes I just cant seem to load it to my ipod. why? all of the songs in the playlists seem to have an "!" next to them in the track list. That is until i play them then it goes away im not sure if these things are related but i think they may be. plaese help

+all of the songs in the playlists seem to have an "!" next to them in the track list. That is until i play them then it goes away im not sure if these things are related but i think they may be.+
Yes, I'm sure they are related. I have no idea how your PC/itunes got into that state. What's happening now, is itunes thinks it doesn't know where the file is on your PC's hard drive, but when you double-click it, it mysteriously finds it.
I suspect after itunes finds it again, it will load to your ipod.
Is this music on an external HD?
