Ipod classic will not shut off. Have held menu/select until apple logo appears, no change

Menu/Select is to reset the device, not turn it off. You need to press and hold the Play/Pause button until the display turns off.  Then activate the hold switch.

  • My ipod touch will not shut off. lock up

My ipod touch will not shut off. It is just a black screen with the time dial turning. It does not do anything. How can I get it to do something?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I've tried EVERYTHING.  iPod still will NOT shut off...

My iPod has refused to shut off for over a week now. First I went through all the usual steps (resetting dozens of times) and I still could not get it to turn off by pressing play/pause. I then restored my iPod and the thing will still not shut off.
Oddly enough it will turn off if it is being charged, but if it is not, it will remain on. Even the SLEEP button does not work!
I haven't the slightest idea what to do now. Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Had a similar problem. holding play/pause didnt turn mine off.. (also 60GB iPod Photo). But mine did turn off if I disconnected the headphones while its on hold to make it pause and then then automatically switched itself off after a couple of minites of not being used. If this is a bad batch watch out... i've just had a hard-disk failure. see

  • My iPod nano will not shut off.

I was setting up for a photo slideshow, and the music started playing, but the picture didn't show up. The music eventually ended, but now nothing shows up on my screen, while the backlight remains on. I went to iTunes, and it said that my iPod is corrupted. I tried to restore it, but it then froze up and I had to end iTunes through task manager. (I use Windows by the way.) Now it won't read my iPod when I plug it up. I'm stuck here staring at my brand new iPod thinking i'm screwed. Does anyone know what I can do?

i dont know about the rest but i had the same problem getting my computer to recognize my ipod. you can try going to add and remove programs in control panel, select itunes and click change. some stuff will pop up but eventually it will ask you if you want to repair or delete. click repair and the next time you plug in your ipod it should be recognized.

  • Ipod touch 2nd generation (works fine), but will not shut off

my ipod touch 2nd gneration works fine, but it will not shut off.  This use to work:  I would hold down both top and face button for about 10 seconds and it would shut down. Now nothing happens no matter how long I hold those 2 buttons down.  Any suggestions?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod Classic will not sync since installed iTunes 11

iPod Classic will not sync properly since installed new iTunes. Always stops at or around song 2 and just hangs there, even if left all night. Tried restoring the iPod, made no difference. Tried syncing just some songs, sometimes it will do 20 or so but not more than that - and I have 10,000 songs.
Saw something about problem with Winsock and reset that but no effect.
Recently been re-recording CDs in Apple Lossless with 'Convert to AAC' selected for iPod. Maybe the conversion process is causing the block? But it did not before.
I also tried moving the itunes material from the Synology NAS to the PC as I thought the processing power might be the problem. It synced once after that, now it is blocked again. Tonight I tried selecting only the original AAC files and it seems to have worked for them, my problem therefore seems to be the Apple Lossless - unless the syncing of AAC files is another one-off.
Not for the first time I wish I had not updated iTunes because it so often leads to problems of some kind. Why do they not care?
    Any

Update: following successful sync of AAC files, I changed the setting to 'manual' for music & videos, used the View menu to restore the old sidebar, and manually added the Lossless files to the IPod. That actually seems to be working (very slowly). But it would be better if Sync worked as it should.

  • My ipod classic will not charge or turn on

MY IPOD CLASSIC WILL NOT CHARGE OR TURN ON

Important: iPod touch cannot be charged with a FireWire power adapter or FireWire-based car charger.
Verify that the power source being used is working properly.
If connecting to a computer's USB port, verify it is a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Note: The USB ports on most keyboards don't provide enough power, so if you're connecting iPod touch to a keyboard, make sure it has a high-powered USB 2.0 port.
Verify the computer is turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPod touch is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPod touch battery may drain.
    Try another USB port.
Try charging from a USB charger if available.
If that does not help, try another USB cable if available.

If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. • Ipod Nano will not turn off

My ipod nano will not power off. Even the sleep button does not work. I have reset everal times. Any thoughts?

I've been through 4 of those R's, as well as the Quick Fix and about 5 hours on the phone with Apple. It will now turn off, but it is still not visible to iTunes and the iPod updater won't run because it also can't see the iPod. Windows sees it just fine, so now I'm awaiting a 3-5 day response from an Apple engineer about what is wrong. This all started when I installed the 6.0 update. I'm now back to the older software, but it still won't reconize my iPod, so therefore will not update it with new songs, etc.
    Thanks for your reply.
