Ipod classic won't stay connected

I just got an ipod classic 80 gb for my birthday, and it worked great for the first few days. Now, no matter which usb port I plug it in to, it connects, automatically syncs, and then disconnects right away. This is driving me nuts! Any way to fix this or should I try to return it? It already has a few scratches on the back so not sure if I can...

Make sure no HP printer is connecte to that computer.

  • Brand new iPod touch won't stay connected to Wifi

I got a brand new white iPod touch for Christmas, and I can get it to connect to the internet and I can use the internet, but then after a few minutes it drops off the connection and I have to go back in and reconnect it. I know there isn't anything wrong with the wifi connection at my house because I have an older iPod touch (3rd generation) and it has always connected and stayed connected without a problem. My mom and brother also got the same iPod touches for Christmas, and theirs do the same exact thing.

Change the router SSID (network name) and password to something shorter than the defaults.  If you dig into the router configuration web page you will find a short SSID.  My SSID is 5 characters long, and the password I use is 10 charcters long.

  • IPod touch won't stay connected

I just recieved my uncle's old iPod touch wich is in perfectly good condition. I try to sync it to my computer but it only stays connected for about a second. I tried resetting the whole system, but it did not help at all. I hear the little noist and the battery shows the lightning bolt but only for about a half second. It is not even enough for the computer to recognize it. I have tried two different USB cables and my olf iPod nano worked just fine. Any suggestions? Please help. Thanks a ton!

You do have iTunes installed on your computer, correct?

  • Ipod shuffle won't stay connected in itunes

I have an old ipod shuffle, the kind that's white and looks like a flash drive.  I just got a new Windows 7 laptop, and installed itunes on it.  I spent a few hours transferring all of my music over to itunes on the new laptop.  Then, when I plugged my ipod shuffle into the laptop, it wouldn't properly synch.  It makes a "beep" sound, flashes that it's available in the itunes screen, disappears, beeps again, reappears, etc.  I checked in control panel and my computer, and it really is appearing in my computer, then disappearing, then reappearing.  I tried to plug my ipod into all of the different USB ports.  I also tried restarting my computer.
How do I get it so I can access my ipod on my laptop?

I have two iPod shuffle 2nd gen, neither is working on any of my mac's, I have 10.6.1 on two of the
computers along with the latest version of iTunes ver 9 (70) I had the same issue with 10.5.8 and the
last version of iTunes. I've reset both with the "iPod reset utility". It takes forever to mount the shuffle
in iTunes, when it does show and I try to copy anything to the iPod shuffle it fails! It's interesting that
this seems to have happen around the same time that the 3rd generation iPod shuffle came onto the
market, I smell a rip-off, yes Steve are you listening (possibly NOT!) Any how I've very disappointed with
Apple as this is an issue and they seem to don't really care, they just won't you to purchase more
STUFF, well I still have my iPod touch and iPod classic, once they die or Apple decides to mess up
the software then I'll possibly look else where.

  • HT1335 ipod nano won't stay connected to pc after uprading from windows vista to windows 7

I can't keep it connected long enough to do anything with it. Have tried resetting ipod manually and switching to disc mode to no avail...

woo hoo! fixed it....ok..here's what to do...disconnect ipod from pc, toggle hold/release switch on top of nano, reconnect to pc, hold top and center button until apple appears, as soon as you see apple hold center and bottom button to start disk mode....reformat disk following on screen directions....disconnect and start itunes, reconnect and follow instructions on setting up new ipod, make sure you choose factory reset and go from there. Yesss!!!

  • 2G iPod Touch won't stay connected to Jaybird Freedom headphones.

I've successfully paired the 2G touch with my new JF3 headphones.  I get the confirmation, and see the updated Bluetooth icon on the screen.
When I go to music playback, the connection is almost immediately dropped.
I've gone through all of the steps, ad nauseum, and even have had the iPod "forget this device", so I can start over.
There has to be a setting or a connectivity conflict that I don't understand.
I've tried multiple iterations of the pairing sequence.  The longest successful pairing I've had lasted roughly 30 seconds...and this was all done inside, not outdoors, and the devices were always well within the stated range.
I'm too the point where I'm wondering if I should just give up messing around with it, and purchase the iSport adapter, shut off my bluetooth and move on.
Hoping there is someone more clever than I am out there looking to help.

  • IPod Nano won't stay connected

I've got a 4GB 1st Gen iPod Nano, and I just can't keep the USB connection when I'm connected to iTunes. I connect one end to the dock connector and the other end to the USB port. For about a second it lights up and I get the Do Not Disconnect icon. Then that disappears and it goes to the main iPod menu. It's only if I take one finger and slightly bend the end connected to the dock connector up that the connection seems to hold. When I do that, I get a steady Do Not Disconnect icon and message and iTunes launches. I have to keep the end connected to the dock connector slightly bent upwards the whole time. If I let go and lay the iPod on my desk it disappears from iTunes. Incidentally, this also happens with my 4th Gen iPod click wheel. However, with both, I can charge it via the dock connector with no issue--it doesn't lose connectivity when I do that, only when connecting to iTunes.
Anyone else having an issue like that?
    Powerbook G4 15" Mac OS X (10.4.3)
    Powerbook G4 15" Mac OS X (10.4.3)
    Powerbook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Are you using an USB hub or a laptop? I read that that causes the issue, and checked it myself - afaik, the hubs and some laptops have smaller current in USB sockets, i think that was 100 mA rather than 500 mA (required). So: If you're using a PC and USB hub - connect the iPod to main socket. Using a laptop - bad news for you, i think.
    Have a nice day

  • Ipod/ipad won't stay connected to my mini

    it's not the cable-
because it happens on my oldstyle ipod touch cable as well as the newer iphone/ipod using the lightning cable.
Both cables are plugged directly into the back of my mini
I've experienced all devices disconnecting themselves in the middle of syncs, especially lengthy chores like updating software or uploading songs.
Thought it had to do with photos on the devices, because of itunes obsession with opening photo downloader and bridge every time I connect, whether there are new photos are not; but that theory fell apart with my ipad, which has no photos, did not trigger any other software and still disconnected several times during sync.
    Any ideas?

  • IPod mini won't "stay" connected..

I started having problems with my mini a couple of weeks ago, with songs skipping like a scratched record.. I tried to hook it up to iTunes and it doesn't recognize me anymore.. I went over the 5 "R" steps aand finally the mini opened in iTunes long enough to check for recent updates for the mini and begin the "restore" process. I figured I'd try this and then reload my library to see if the HD is toast or not. It has never done this before.. Now, I have an empty iPod that after downloading iTunes 9.0.1, I can't get my iPod to open in iTunes. I hook it up to the USB cable and it's like a light switch being turned on and off, the iPod lites up and looks like it will open in iTunes, then jumps back out.. It keeps doing that as long as I am conencted to that cable. I have tried several different USB ports and with that same cable, I hooked hubby's iPod mini and it opened and recognized him right away. How do I get it to stop the jumping process so I can try and restore my library? Is there any manual "hard reset" I can do? I dont' want to toss it but I am frustrated as to what to do next.
    Lori

    Lori,
Yes, There is a "Hard Reset" for the iPod. Apple (and in iTunes) labels it as an iPod in Recovery Mode. It is really easy to do!
Basically what you do is reset the iPod while it is plugged into the computer (make sure you have your iPod plugged into the back of your computer and have your printer unplugged. Sometimes printers will mess up this process!) and restore the iPod.
If that dont work the only other suggestion that I would have for you is to use a different computer and try again. If it still doesn't work for you then I think you iPod is officially done for!
Also, just remember that apple has a recycling program for iPods. So if you would want a new one just take it to a local apple store and exchange it for a brand spanking new one with a one year limited coverage on it (warranty). You can save up to 10 %. Or if you look at the apple online store there is always refurbished models there and ! have seen some of those up to 30% off with the coverage for a year. To be honest, my friend has a refurbished iPod and you can not tell the difference between his and a brand new one. It works like a charm!
I am sorry for my long winded response & I hope that everything works out for you!

  • IPod Classic won't connect - need to restore. What do I do?

I installed the latest iTunes onto my laptop (Windows 8), and now my iPod Classic won't connect to my laptop or iTunes. It's also telling me I need to connect to iTunes to restore it. I can't connect it to iTunes.
When I plug in the USB cord, It starts the iPod in Disk Mode -  still no connection. What do I do?!

    Hi DanielleGuise!
It sounds like your iTunes installation is not recognizing that your iPod is plugged in, so you will need to address that issue before you can restore the iPod. Here is an article that will help you do this:

  • New iPod Touch Wifi won't stay connected?

Just bought new 16 GB iPod Touch, and it won't stay connected to my home WiFi. Even after a reset of network connection, re-enter WiFi info and Touch connects for a few minutes and then loses connectivity even tho WiFi bars still show. Turning WiFi off and on does not fix problem. Turning iPod off and back on will allow Touch to reconnect, but again only for a few minutes at best.

Does the iPod work OK with other networks?
    Do other devices work OK?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2

ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2.
I updated to itunes 11.0.2 today, after delaying it for a looong time (I have it @ work and don't like the new layout).
Since then, none of my ipods will mount/show up/update. I've tried all USB ports, 3 ipods, 3 cords. Wondering if you know of any issues. I've restarted the mac about 15-20 times today since as soon as I hook up an ipod, itunes immediately spins the beach ball and won't let me click out of it.
I've restarted the ipods 10+ times each.
All of the ipods DO show up on my desktop though. Just not in itunes anywhere with 11.0.2.
One more thing: It's not the cables or the ipods: they both mount fine when connected to my laptop (running old *** 10.4.11 and itunes 9.)
Machine is a Mac Pro running 10.6.8.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

  • IPod Touch can't stay connected to iTunes

I just bought an iPod touch but when I try to connect it to my WinXP laptop, it won't stay connected for more than a few seconds. I hear the iPod make a sound when it sees that it is connected to my laptop and it appears in the iTunes list for 10-30 seconds before disconnecting. After several tries to stay connected, sometimes iTunes claims that it can't connect to the "iPhone" and gives me an error 0xE8000001.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. No success.
I tried different USB ports. No success.
It seemed to work fine for the first few days after purchase but now this problem has come up

    Hi, DJSchmike.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are experiencing issues with iTunes disconnecting your older iPod nanos automatically.  This can be difficult to troubleshoot and you have already processed some great steps with no resolution.  The next step would be troubleshooting USB connections and security software conflicts.  Here are some troubleshooting guides that I would recommend going through.

  • Ipod classic won't update

the past few times I've connected my ipod to to itunes, it doesn't update. there's also no "update ipod" option under any menus. ***? anyone know why?

I have a different issue but my ipod classic won't update either, figure I'd post in the same topic.
I can download the software but once it extracts, an error message pops up saying my ipod can't be updated and a code (1462) is at the end of the message.
I have 1.1 and no previous issues with updating or with the ipod. I've tried rebooting it and no difference.
Any ideas why or what to do?
    Thanks in advance.
